Thank you for posting this, this is awesome. I just got this record at a garage sale, and I TOTALLY did not expect to be seeing a commercial for it!!! The album has a lot of really good tunes on it. Where did you find this? (The commercial I mean.) Who had enough foresight to preserve commercials for 40 years? Love it, though, thank you.
I saw everyone of these acts live at the Apollo theatre and other venues. The only one I didn't see was Bill Withers. This is back when we were beautiful Black people with real music!
Generally speaking, most music is garbage these days. But you put on earth wind and fire, and you see people get in the groove. There just isn't music that affects people that way anymore. It has no soul.
From the songs, I'm guessing 1973? Would be nice to date these.. I still have my K-tel albums.. Some great collections!! RANDY A CARLISLE - DJ - KSGV The Real Oldies Show
That has to be a first having stars appear in a KTEL commercial…. And it just happens to be two of my favorites MILlLIE JACKSON and the great JOE SIMON!
Have they ever released this awesome comp on CD? i would buy it ASAP if it wuz available. Just the cover n this ad r sooo groovy n totally vintage ! If anyone has any info lemme know ;)
MY ABSOLUTE FAVES FROM THIS COLLECTION R "Armed And Extremely Dangerous" "Evil" n "Stoned Out Of My Mind" lol. HAVE YET 2 FIND ANY EARLY 70s SOUL/FUNK/DISCO COMPS IN STORES OR ONLINE THAT EVER MATCH THE COOL N RARE TRACKS INCLUDED HERE. AS A 70s TV ICON WOULD SAY "DY-NO-MIIITTEE". Groove On N PEACE ;)
groooovy. listened to this ktel collection on cd and my ipod obsessively. so many cool songs with a great afrocentric vibe of the early 70s. btw many tracks on this album are very rare n hard to find on other 70s soul compilations ie jungle fever !
pre-queen of raunch miss Millie. pre pastor in the Bahamas, Joe Simon. he looks very cool and unique and wore make up when he wore those black David Bowie costumes.
Surprisingly , Joe Simon seems a lot more at ease , announcing , on camera , than Isaac Hayes does in his "Super Bad" ad ,and he branched out into acting , of course . Was the Canadian version censored because of the "I was Checking Out (She Was Checking In" segment ? I remembered it showed a Black man "Checking out " a White woman in the U.S. version. I could be wrong , that's just how I remember it... Great ad , anyway

This must have been for the Canadian version of the album. The US version didn't have the Stylistics or "Smarty Pants" on it.
You are absolutely right, the cover is totally different from the American version.
On a scale of 1 to 10, it’s SUPER BAD.
Happy Birthday,Joe Simon.That was yesterday.

Got all 20 volumes of that.
Midnight Train to Georgia is 💯
Not really my style of music but it is still 1000% better than rap or hip hop or whatever that nonsense is these days.
Two words. HOLY SHIT.
Enid Ferry
Millie Jackson did that album cover sitting on the throne, if you know what I mean...
"Back to The.....".

I have Super Bad and Super Bad Is Back love these albums
This was for the Canadian version. (NC 416)
Yeah...my copy doesn't have Rockin Roll Baby or Smarty Pants. I knew this had to be from another region.

It wasn't Isaac Hayes in the "Super Bad" ad.
This album has some good songs.
