Thx for the gameplay and audio editing, bluejay.
(I know next to nothing about old John Wayne movies, and very little on old Westerns btw. I maintain my assumption based on censorship like the Hays Code (1934-1968) and such, which would’ve hamstrung anything plausibly resembling real life. So…don’t take me as the final authority on that.)
(Also, details are kinda murky on the “McCarthy learned fluent Spanish just for writing”. I heard he lived in Spanish speaking areas for a time in the ‘60s, so he’d likely have already known some beforehand. The Northern Mexican dialect he likely did tailor specially for the book, but I discovered he had a little help with that. Oh well. I’m learning as I go lol.)

    1.) Correction(s) in description.
2.) I really like that “the Kid/the Man” is all we ever know him as. He’s a self-insert character done right. One of few. His emotions are rarely explored because we’re meant to become him, and feel his experiences for ourselves, in our own unique ways. He’s all of mankind, embodied as one-from the ignorance of their youth to the weariness of their aged. And his violent nature reflects all of mankind accordingly. If that makes any sense. Or maybe I’m just acting smarter than I am again. Yes, probably that one. :3
3.) I haven’t played the story of RD2 myself, but I’ve watched someone else play it. I do enjoy randomly riding the horse around though lol.
4.) Also, it’s been a while since I’ve read the theories discussed, even the Kid becomes the Judge one. Hopefully I didn’t mess them up.

@@jonahlehman1123From what I’ve seen of Django Unchained, it hits a lot of the same notes. Consistent wry humor, spaghetti western homages (I don’t know much about spaghetti westerns though), and King Schultz has his silver-tongued Dutch moments, though he’s not as volatile as Dutch.

Im not a gamer but I lovvvveee your takes and info on Cormac McCarthy! Plus I love McCarthy! I have a lot of trouble interpreting things!

Thank you! In this vid I’m relaying a lot of this from Reddit, from memory. I have a hard time interpreting things too! Sometimes I can form my own opinions, but other times I have to read other people’s interpretations and then ultimately decide what I believe. I think it pays to be analytical like that, to try and get as much as you possibly can out of a text. Reading multiple interpretations and speculations can give you more perspective/insight than you’d have if left to your own devices. Heck, I listened to Wendigoon’s 5+ hour analysis of Blood Meridian before even reading it. That’s what inspired me to pick it up. I watched his No Country vid long before reading No Country. We’re all just creatives here, trying to absorb all the knowledge we can. 🖤

@owliiie no way! I'm going to listen to that. It's hard for me to find RUclipsrs I'm fond of, but you're really rad.
I don't mean that in an inappropriate way. I feel like these days, if you give someone a compliment, all of a sudden, one person is hitting on another.
I'm kind of a 'black sheep', so I find it's more difficult for me to find things I like.
That said, your videos are awesome, your voice is welcoming and warm, something that's been rare in my life, and you're entertaining and interesting.

Is the last speech from Judge Holden about evil, the reason why I ask this question is mainly due to some of the things he said in the speech and how the author wrote it.Seeing the "he'll never die" made me think Cormac was writing about evil and how it will never die, from the murder of Cains brother from the biblical ages to Modern day crimes and "he dances in light and shadow and is a great favorite"with the"he never sleeps" quote could have possibly been about how evil acts are committed anywhere at anytime.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve read it at this point, but I could definitely see Judge Holden being a metaphor for evil altogether. A lot of people like to say he’s a personification of the Devil, which I think would track too. At the very least, that speech could be about acts of evil, as a pastime, an obsession, a favorite of mankind.
