    Dr prakash but i have heard that most of the people are telling as step 1 is hard and requires deep knowledge of clinical subjects too, so its ideal to give it after covering all 19 subjects of mbbs which will give us clarity in answering questions. Juat by knowing pre clinical subjects it difficult to crack every questions.

      I will disagree. Most people who get good marks in Step 1 do it just after 2nd prof.
      Especially in AIIMS, people who scored in high 260/270 gave it in 7th sem while most who gave in internship got in 250s. Now considering Step 1 is pass fail it makes even more sense to get done wiTh it in 7th sem.

      @@DrAditya2935 okayy sir thank you i got u. Sir I will be joining this year in mbbs first year. But i have heard that from 2024, indian colleges will not be ecfmg certified. What to do with that? After getting into collge i will get my ecfmg registration done this year before giving step 1?? Can i do that or to apply for ecfmg certfication we must give both the steps?

      @Aritra Chatterjee I think it's not like that you need to give Step1 and Step 2 of USMLE and then afterwards u can apply for ECFMG certificate...

      @@affanzafar5059 but someone lse was telling there is no such pre requisite or compulsion that steps exams must be given and passed too. So whatever your status may be as soon as you enter med school ur college need to get ecfmg certifed before 2024. The batches which will enter med school at 2024 or after 2024 will not be elegible.

    Dr Prakash, is it true that Indian medical graduates would not be able to attempt USMLE after 2023? Apparently indian medical colleges don't have FMCG accreditation and it would take atleast a decade to get it. What are your thoughts about that?

      Email ECFMG. I emailed them they said as long as you submit form 186 before 2024 you won't be impacted by the new accreditation

      Visa issues are best left to immigration attorneys or visa agents if one gets stuck. Getting business visa or J1 visa should not be troublesome for most people if using for a genuine reason.

      Nmc should be recognised by wfme by 2024 otherwise no indian will be able to usmle if he graduates from an indian medical college

      Before 2024 you muat be in atleast 1 year of med school in india. As ecfmg registartion requires no pre requisite, go to site and get your college certified

      All scores are valid for 7 years unless tou are ecfmg certified. After certification the scores are permanent.

    Sir, does applying for postdoc research positions for 2-3years help with neurosurgery applications? Or, even then the odds of matching remain high?

      Yes, it helps a lot. However it’s not a formula and there’s no guarantee of matching in competitive specialties even after that. The odds certainly increase but it never is 100%, even if you get say 30-40 publications.

      Neurosurgery is hard to get even for Americans. So yeah, it’s pretty hard for IMGs.

      You will have to do clinical fellowships in USA after completing steps. That’s an alternative pathway.

      It’s possible but it’s quite hard. You will probably have to do quite a lot of research and even a prelim intern year. But it’s not uncommon to match in gen surg if you do the right things.

      @@prajwalvs1659 prelim is a temporary PGY-1 spot after which you reapply. You can do observerships after finishing internship. In US, intern means PGY-1. Don’t confuse with intern in India
