    Sick in bed binge watching your videos. I was supposed to make your clam chowder today but that'll have to wait until tomorrow. It has become one of our favorite fall recipes since I made it I think 7 years ago? You have inspired me so much over the years keeping a household despite having ADHD and giving my self forgiveness. Progress over perfection has helped me center myself many times. We live two completely different lifestyles but you have encouraged me and been an online mother figure for me during many dark times. Thank you for being such an encouraging creator!

    Shallots are a milder sweet onion, but can easily be substituted with any other onion in recipes. I will often use regular onions instead in cooked dishes due to the cost.
    I like to use shallots in recipes that have raw onions, such as quinoa salads, Greek salads, corn or cucumber salsas. They are usually found near the garlic at the grocery store, but are generally more expensive than regular onions.

    In America shallots are a mild, small onion usually with two halves together. Often people say they have a hint of garlic, but I don't taste it. Green onions are different, they are also called scallions.

    Kimmie in Australia we have shallots which are a mild green onion. They have a tiny white onion bulb with long green shoots which you use. They are very close to spring onions if you have those. The spring onion has a much bigger bulb.

    We love stuffed peppers. I also add homemade onion soup mix to our meat. I also add a tiny bit of tomato soup to my meat to give it a little bit of moisture. We stuff our peppers and throw them in the crock pot. We then add the rest of the tomato soup to the crock pot over the peppers. We add some spaghetti sauce and I add saurkraut to the crock pot. We cook them on low. Comes out amazing any of the gunk left over in the crock pot we save to make soups.

    Hello Kimmy! All of these meals look so good 👍🏻😊. We love stuffed peppers. I do mine a little different. I add salt & pepper, breadcrumbs, parsley, an egg, freshly grated Locatelli pecorino, sautéed onion, and cooked rice all to the uncooked beef. Mix everything together then stuff the peppers and top each one with tomato sauce, then add the remaining sauce to the bottom of the pan. They turn out very juicy and yummy every time ☺️. Hope you’re having a nice day!!!! 😉👍🏻🫑

    Shallots are more mild in flavor. Red onions are similar to white or yellow onions. Bulb onions all go through a green onion stage....but then bulb up. There are some varieties of green onions (bunching onions) that never bulb up but stay in the green onion stage always.

    Chives is the mildest of the onion family, green onions can be very harsh depending on the size thinner ones are sweeter the bigger it gets the sharper the onion flavor, shallots are a very mild onion, but Vidalia onions are the sweetest of the regular onions, yellow and red onions have the sharpest flavor if them all. Chives are more of an herb then a true onion. That's what I know about the onions. All I know about onions I learned from the food network.

  • @ellengoldammer3034
    @ellengoldammer3034 3 года назад

    Scallions are green onions.
    Shallots are small onions, sweeter and more delicately flavored.
    Vidalia or sweet onions are sweeter than regular yellow onions- no tears when chopping!!

I even draw a HUGE X through any recipe that is a total fail upon the first try as ( like you said) I always follow the recipe to the letter the first time…but after that it is fair game for my family’s preferences. However, if it is a total fail the first time, it never gets a second chance! 🤣🤣🤣

    If the picture looked like a green onion and it was called a shallot, it is because in other countries like Australia, green onions are often called shallots, or spring onions. Similar to eggplant being called an aubergine and a zucchini being called a courgette, and a bell pepper being called a capsicum. I hope that helps. But shallots in America are a milder sweeter onion flavor.

    In NZ, white or yellow onions are the ones with the brown skin...., red onions are the ones with the purple skins, not so strong and mostly used in salads, ie not cooked...., green onions we call spring onions, and Aussies call shallots. . you can use both the white and green parts, the green is less strong than the white, shallots are the reddy brown ones, like the one you used,not as strong as white onions, and a little sweeter....I think you have Chipotle onions too with white skins? Maybe they have another name too? Sadly we can't get those here...hope this helps 😀
