  • This is my version of a Skeleton in a rocking chair with talking picoboo controller. I went through many different versions of this build before I ended up with the final prop. Figured I'd share this to help some people avoid some of the mistakes I made during the build. This was by far the hardest build I've done to date. I went through some blood, sweat, and tears when trying different ideas on how to mount the picotalk in the skull. The finished prop works pretty good, but I may replace the current skull with a higher grade, more durable skull in the future. Building the rocking assembly was not very difficult, so If you are wanting this effect without the ability of the skeleton to talk, you can probably build this for under $100. Big shout out to Steve at Yardhunter5. I originally got this idea from one of his videos. His turned out great, and he even went through the extra step of adding a corpsing effect to his skeleton. Definately subscribe to his channel for all kinds of great videos on his yard haunt.
Below are the items I used for this build. I've listed items first for the rocking assembly in case you just want to build the skeleton rocking in the chair without the picotalk and picoboo controller.

    - Skeleton ( pose-n-stay bought from amazon. I believe you can get the same skeleton at Costco or Walgreens) $50

    - Various steel stock (I used 1/8" x 1")

    - Bootunes (frightprops.com) $125

Thanks for sharing all that detail and parts list to help the community.
Biggest challenge I've been having is making linkages to limit/control wiper motor action so I really apprecaite you sharing your experiences!

Great video! I want to give this one a shot. Should work well with the $20 prop controller I built from Mikkojay's plans. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks bud and thanks for sharing that video on the $20 prop controller. I have an idea for a prop I've been wanting to do, but it is going to take several channels. I've kinda ditched the idea because the controllers I've looked are just too expensive for my budget. The arduino controller may just be my saving grace. One question for you...I've looked on Amazon and they have several different versions of the R3 ranging in price from $7 to $30. Is there a brand/manufacturer that you recommend?

OhioHaunter $7!! You're paying too much. Get it for under $4 shipped (link below). They're pretty much all the same. I just went with the cheapest. The first one I bought was a little more expensive but it included the USB cable and is a genuine Arduino. The remaining 3 I bought were knock offs and didn't include the cable. Honestly, the knock offs are better, with more wiring options. Here's a link to the exact knock off I bought: www.ebay.com/itm/-/301787822648?roken=cUgayN
If you chain those together like in the video, you can get an unlimited number of channels at

Like yourself, I also bought a PIR sensor on amazon. Unfortunately, the unit did not come prewired and didn't have a wiring diagram included. That is why I ended up using the Frightprops PIR. They have detailed instructions on their web site on how to wire up their products. I know this doesn't help you out much but I did run into the same problem you did. You might want to go to Frightprops.com and look up their tutorial. You can try and see if the wiring works the same for the amazon model. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
