Just purchased my first scuttle from this collection, my lather is going to be blessed every time I use it
Yes! Bring back the scuttle! I have six so far and each has its own puck of soap ‘cemented’ in. I use them regularly and there is definitely something about the extra ritual that I enjoy. It also got me into boar brushes: my routine is to fill the scuttle with hot water, add the brush to soak, and shower. When I’m done showering the brush is well and truly prepped.
I have a small collection of vintage scuttles, love the history!
I use old mugs and scuttles all the time, especially when I straight razor shave. It just gives more of an old fashion feel to my morning.
Always love these old time mugs-scuttles! We need them back!
Nice video Matt:)
Ι always use my porcelain shaving bowl to do my lather. I put some amount of my triple milled soap in it. Greetings from Nikolaos, Greece.
Georgetown G20 scuttle is the top of line . I use it & I also have a travel scuttle because I can never shave without using the scuttle
I have several old scuttles like that. I don't use them very often, but from time to time. I, too, have a Georgetown scuttle that I use quite often. And I have an old shaving mug that says "doctor".
I'm just using a small steel cup as a shaving mug and can't be happier😁
Interesting history lesson.
Matt is back with another great video and vibes . Thks mate❤
Thank you 🙏
I have an old scuttle somewhere in the garage in a box I've never gotten around to unpacking. I'm tempted to go look for it this weekend and try it out. I bought it many years ago from a thrift store.
As I put on a preshave oil I let my Muhle shaving mug sit with hot water in it, then dump out the water before adding a bit of Trufit & Hill shaving cream in the mug and the residual heat from the porcelain mug makes for a hot shaving lather....feels like a Barber shop hot lather shave.
I prefer my Georgetown Pottery lather scuttle. has the hot water chamber to keep the lather warm. I load the brush in the soap container and then build the lather in the scuttle
I use a PAA scuttle and really am enjoying the warm lather on these cold mornings. Well, cold for Phoenix 😂
I know you're a big proponent of using cold water for shaves. But I've used a more modern type scuttle for years, and there's nothing more luxurious that the feel of brushing on a warm lather. Right now, we're in the middle of the ice age up here in western NY state, and that warm brush feels heavenly in the morning. Maybe when we get into summer, I'll try your cold shave recipe again.
It feels wonderful yes. For my skin it leads to ingrowns.
Matt, what was it in vintage old spice that gave it such a wonderful moisturizing effect? It’s bugging me 😂 because the post shave feel is superior to today’s.
Not sure
@@RazorEmporiumit’s their thou right it’s not just me is it? Also I had great straight edge shave at the bellagio 😮💨 I recommend lol
dear sir dont know much about wool from lamb hair shaving because its a rare thing in some area of the globe
Hi Matt, My Grandfather had a hand held, hand cranked DE razor strop. It looked like a mechanical pencil sharpener--one you anchored to a wall, like we had in grade school. Inside it had two sets of leather rollers to do the stropping. You put in a DE razor, closed the cover, and hand cranked it to strop your used DE blade. Have you heard of these? Do you have one in your collection? Kind Regards, Dave
Sounds like a twin plex stropper.
Hey Matt, do you do samples of rex shaving cream? I want to try some of them, but I don’t ever really buy anything but samples for financial and space reasons. Thanks!

That would be good Matt. Try having a shave using a s scuttle and hot water on set. See what happens. I know you normally use cold only.
Will try
Castro's scuttle? Like George Costanza's Chrysler LaBaron? "It was Jon Voights."
Lol ya
I use a skull. It's the original mug if you think about it.
