TMReviews shows there is a method to move the head past the square rocket launcher during transformation. Apparently the split in the head is specifically designed just for that.
Kind of an interesting turn of events that for the second time recently that the takara is the BETTER price than the comparable 3rd party offering. It makes me wonder how it's transformation will be compared to this one.
Another great review. My copy just arrived this week. And the first thing I found frustrating was the neck as Bobby mentioned. I was torn with it out of the box. And have just had it out next to the MMC for the last couple days. And it’s growing on me. Much more solid than the MMC. The legs on my MMC are loosey goosey just with picking it up. And it’s only been transformed once and then on display. Only other complaint on the FT outrider is the upper arm movement. Other than those two things happy with it and would recommend.
This thing is listed at $190 most places. I guarantee it will drop to $150 in a month or two like every other recent Fanstoys release. It looks great in robot mode, Okay in truck mode but doesn't really seem like a $200 release even if he's tall.
I just got mine in yesterday (coincidentally my birthday) and I have to agree that the multiple connections from the top of the truck to the legs is the most finicky, imo the connection of the hood to fender piece that is a flap on the legs.

The proportions are absolutely killer in my eyes! Usually when the arms on a bot hang that low it throws me off cause they’re so close to the knees but for some reason it works for me. Not sure I can budget this figure though. Especially with a lot of preorders I have coming this year beyond just MP transformers.
Looks like the only difference with those exaggerated faces was one has a much larger and longer chin. Probably something to do with animation differences. I've seen others that the head stays tabbed in better. Looks like Ironhide and Rathcet's gun as well, it's like their Autobot default blaster. This guy's been long over do. I finally picked this guy up... everything I was expecting with 1 issue - Absolute frustration... transforming back from vehicle mode the back tire on one of the legs was stuck to the point where I thought it was going to break to get it to flip back into the leg. The issue which was easy enough to see compared to the other side was the nub on the tire section that locks it in place was bigger than it was on the other side. I am going to either sand the nub down a bit or just leave him in bot mode. Didn't have the issue with the head that Bobby did... appears to be some small qc issues
Fans Toys always have frustratjng transformation sequences that aren’t intuitive. I gave up on them after I bought my Sovereign (Galvatron) and a screw on the leg came apart… I should’ve learned after buying the FT-Willis (Hound) when it was impossible for me to transform it into vehicle mode cleanly lol That’s why when I here all of these 3rd Party fan boys hate on Takara, I know for a fact that they clearly don’t appreciate the transformation process. With the exception of MP Hound and MP Megatron, Takara always knock it out of the part for me terms of balancing transformation and aesthetics.
I wonder if anyone has bothered to read the back of the package and the trading card. My outer box has Tesla's story and the Trading card has Rig's. It's a kind of funny while still being annoying. PS: I found the clip behind the front wheels is easier to get into place if you slightly twist one of the legs to create the clearance needed. Otherwise it's so tight I'm afraid of it breaking.
I just... I just don't care. It's hard to get excited about yet another figure that already has representations by basically every company. For me, at least.
I have X transbots. Version I think that one looks better. I have fanstoys Skyfire and warpath , they look amazing !!! This outrider Bad , head to big , neck problems , you pointed out , to change to two hands , I need to pull a pin , no thanks! And truck looks really. bad!!
You briefly touched on the wait and I think the key question for what is basically a perfectly serviceable Trailbreaker is: 'what was it about this release that half a decade of other releases queue-jumped it?' It is very interesting to me, though, that this is released in direct opposition, more-or-less, to the Takara. Ordinarily, FT back down when an official product is due. In the past, I have advocated the need for true competition and celebrated plucky upstarts going nose-to-nose with the official to give consumers an actual choice. However, since then we have had the Zeta Unicron drama and I'm surprised that Takara would stand for this release in the same way... Also strange that FT seem to have changed their willingness to go up against the official...
Certified fanboy here. These things happening with Fanstoys, such as the head issue, which I and many others gave takara the business for, and the copy cat blaster which blows my mind, seem to be getting more and more frequent. I could care less about the box, but I know there are some that this affects also, so it’s still a problem. I get they operate in a “grey area”, but that has always been the case. They used to communicate with their fans through dallianjj (sp), but that is non existent now. When xtb had all those issues with Locke, the company responded. XTB has a Facebook page that as far as 3P goes is more active than most. I’m afraid Fanstoys is losing touch with what made them great. I would take a nightmare transformation over that “head bullshit” any day of the week. I would take squeaky joints over Hannibal’s head popping off when his arm rotates. I guess I will still buy, because they still look and feel the best, but there has been a change somewhere. Hope I’m wrong.
Did Trailbreaker ever use a gun like Bumblebee's? It's been ages since I watched the cartoon, but I always seem to recall the blaster hand was his weapon.
Don't recall him ever using a pistol, but I mentioned above, it's exactly the same gun they gave Ironhide and Ratchet a pair of. So while it's similar to Bumblebee's, it's actually identical to Ironhide and Ratchet's

Looking forward to the XTB Toon version comparison with this... This has a lot of things I like about it, but so does the XTB version (one of the biggest IMO being the FT version having a kangaroo pouch on his chest due to the way the truck hood sits that the XTB doesn't have). And considering you can get the XTB one for about $100 now it should be interesting to see how that extra $80 fares.
It’s also weird that there is no FT or FansToys logo work on the box, no embossed “FT-XX” number on the styrofoam, and no FT logo tape for the styrofoam tray. Just all around peculiar. 🤷♂️
Bot mode looks good,but the alt mode looks a bit squished. I personally prefer the BC or XTB alt mode. The MMC alt isn't bad either. Good vid and funny skit. Bring on the skits man.

I think the FT one looks slender than the XTB one. but for me XTB is more toon accurate. it's not like BC and FT when it comes to Huffer. FT being the more toon accurate.
I don't have mine yet to check it myself, but I saw another reviewer say that pushing the bar the head is connected to down first, then pushing the head down allows the head to be connected to the body better. Hopefully that is correct.

You know what I'm noticing on this figure? NO LOAD-BEARING CLEAR PLASTIC PARTS. Might wanna pay attention, Hasbro. We don't want transparent windows more than we want toys that will survive past a year.
Not wrong about the size of the Lamborghini, if I knew what I knew now and was starting out collecting from scratch I'd probably make MP-10 and Earthrise Sideswipe my core figures to fit everything else too (rather than MP Sideswipe and MPP10). The Porsche 911, the F! Ligier and the Willys Jeep are all tiny too. Even the Nissan Cherry vanette is small. The Autobot cars are a nightmare. Realistically, one Seeker could just pick them up and throw them about. I think if I got to see all the G1 vehicle together in real life I would be amazed at how small most of them are. But I still would pay good money to see that car show.
The leg on my BC one literally fell apart in my hand from the knee, which seems to be a known issue, so damn glad to have the Po on this. Just need my retailer to get them in now.

I think they went that route with the pistol because it is the generic pistol on the show. Ironhide and Ratchet both came with a pistol almost identical. Wheeljack did as well I believe (could be wrong about that one).
Wheeljack, if you mean the MP, had a bit of a different pistol, but Ironhide and Ratchet for sure had the same one. What I don’t get is why they gave him one at all. Did Trailbreaker ever use a handheld weapon?

Awesome Review Bobby, Thank You. I have all 4 Trailbreakers now and I still like Badcubes Altmode best. Most RL accurate to Hilux truck compared to FTs more Toony look. FTs and XTB are fairly close in looks for bot mode, BUT FTs takes it in the BBB department again. Not a must have...But if you want the Best TB go FTs. If only BC would have not over Engineered Speed Bumps Legs...😔
Most of my FT figures have been QC'd by #30, and with those I've not had any issues. Whomever QC30 is, they need him to retrain the rest of the QC staff.
Are the pictures taken after transformation at the end? My shoulders are so messed up on mine and I have not even transformed him yet. Looks like someone tried to transform him and butchered him in the process.
It is sleek and sculpted well in bot mode, everything hides. And yes, that's not the batman I was expecting LOL... I just recently got the XTB trail breaker and hoist as a 2 pack about a year ago. I'm good with those, but this is nice; except for the head issue. Paint is always on point. I've been thinking about the paint for a while now. For example, Takara does paint their figures, but not all of them. MP Prime 3.0, Bumblebee 2.0, Sunstreaker, and the new Seekers are all painted nicely. But then they also do the mat paint, like on their hound. I'm wondering if there is a reason for it. I don't mind having a mesh of both. I do have the DS Seekers with the mat paint. I find that it allows the painted figures to stand out more. Is that possibly the reasoning for it? Is it harder for one figure to stand out if all of them are painted nicely? Maybe not having a figure stand out is the goal... Not sure. I guess every collection is different, mine personally, I like the main bots to stand out more. So I don't mind the mat paint of some of them. FT needs to get me my Blitzwing, this is the one they should be working on, not all the ones they have recently released. Priorities, heck, I want the Blitzwing before the Deadend. Blitzwing was Deadend, before Deadend.
He’s a good figure but at what point are we almost splitting hairs when it comes to comparing to xtransbots? For ex- If XTB had the front window paint of FT, I like the XTB just a little better. Idk. Getting to be a tougher and tougher call on these- aesthetically anyway.
Fanstoys collecting in and of itself is its own thing. They made this Trailbreaker, not to compete with XTB, and convert those that like the XTB Trailbreaker. They made it for their fans. Those like me and others that collect Fanstoys and not necessarily the characters themselves. Fanstoys, although “part” of the 3P space, is also separate in that they have A LOT of fans that will buy whatever they put out, regardless if we have one from another brand on the shelf.
@@MisterMeanerOU812- what else does fanstoys make besides transformers? I know FT has a loyal customer base but I don’t think they make their product just for their fans. It’s a market and they want to compete. They want to make money. And I gotta think they are aware of their competitors and plan accordingly. As far as collecting, everyone does it for their own reasons for sure. If collecting FT is what you like, regardless of character, nothing wrong with that. Brand loyalty is a thing for many. For me, I like certain characters more then others and some by other companies more then other. I have plenty of FT but like MMC, Takara, & XTB (although quality is not always there with XTB).
Outrider looks god in both modes, has great sculpt, paint, materials, hardware and a nice transformation but the articulation is limited. It can't do the peck deck just like FT Apache, it doesn't have double jointed elbows, double jointed knees, the ab crunch is floppy and the head articulation is limited besides not being able to tab in properly. The bot mode scale, after the head is tabbed properly, seems to be on point but the truck mode seems a tad too small. I can't find it's proper scale without watching a cartoon episode but for a bot this big the alt mode seems a tad too small, I'm sure it's an original G1animation design thing. At this point in time none of these flaws (specially the head not being able to tab in and the arms not doing the "peck deck") should be acceptable in TF action figures of this price point, specially since most exist to cut down expenses and amp profits. You know what?!!! It's making me think about the Takara Trailbreaker a bit more seriously (in my opinion it's the second best), if only I could actually see a Takara review before I have to pay for the FT preorder. Thanks for the review Mr. Skullface.
I think sellers are going to have it in stock for a while. There are other options available for the figure. You could wait for the Takara to have a review dropped to make your decision. It's not going to sell out. FT only sells out when no other company is making the character. There are still Huffers and Perceptors in stock on line for a discounted price.

Most people are just saying you just need to tab the head in properly at the back first and it won't pop out.

As long as it can support it’s weight I consider it an abcrunch. If you look at the final thought the standing pose uses it and he supports the weight

His head plugged in fine. IF the shoulder cannon is positioned forward. Not leaned back.
You know what I'm noticing on this figure? NO LOAD-BEARING CLEAR PLASTIC PARTS.

Not wrong about the size of the Lamborghini, if I knew what I knew now and was starting out collecting from scratch I'd probably make MP-10 and Earthrise Sideswipe my core figures to fit everything else too (rather than MP Sideswipe and MPP10). The Porsche 911, the F! Ligier and the Willys Jeep are all tiny too. Even the Nissan Cherry vanette is small. The Autobot cars are a nightmare.
Realistically, one Seeker could just pick them up and throw them about.
I think if I got to see all the G1 vehicle together in real life I would be amazed at how small most of them are. But I still would pay good money to see that car show.
DX9 did nearly the same thing for PowerGlide's gun
MP Ironhide and Ratchet had the exact same guns as well.
The leg on my BC one literally fell apart in my hand from the knee, which seems to be a known issue, so damn glad to have the Po on this. Just need my retailer to get them in now.

I think they went that route with the pistol because it is the generic pistol on the show. Ironhide and Ratchet both came with a pistol almost identical. Wheeljack did as well I believe (could be wrong about that one).
Wheeljack, if you mean the MP, had a bit of a different pistol, but Ironhide and Ratchet for sure had the same one. What I don’t get is why they gave him one at all. Did Trailbreaker ever use a handheld weapon?

Awesome Review Bobby, Thank You. I have all 4 Trailbreakers now and I still like Badcubes Altmode best. Most RL accurate to Hilux truck compared to FTs more Toony look. FTs and XTB are fairly close in looks for bot mode, BUT FTs takes it in the BBB department again. Not a must have...But if you want the Best TB go FTs.

Most of my FT figures have been QC'd by #30, and with those I've not had any issues. Whomever QC30 is, they need him to retrain the rest of the QC staff.
Are the pictures taken after transformation at the end? My shoulders are so messed up on mine and I have not even transformed him yet. Looks like someone tried to transform him and butchered him in the process.
I agree. If I wouldn't have a Trailbreaker yet, I would go for the FT. Though, I have a XTB, and I don't see a significant reason to swap him out.
It is sleek and sculpted well in bot mode, everything hides. And yes, that's not the batman I was expecting LOL... I just recently got the XTB trail breaker and hoist as a 2 pack about a year ago. I'm good with those, but this is nice; except for the head issue. Paint is always on point. I've been thinking about the paint for a while now. For example, Takara does paint their figures, but not all of them. MP Prime 3.0, Bumblebee 2.0, Sunstreaker, and the new Seekers are all painted nicely. But then they also do the mat paint, like on their hound. I'm wondering if there is a reason for it. I don't mind having a mesh of both. I do have the DS Seekers with the mat paint. I find that it allows the painted figures to stand out more. Is that possibly the reasoning for it? Is it harder for one figure to stand out if all of them are painted nicely? Maybe not having a figure stand out is the goal... Not sure. I guess every collection is different, mine personally, I like the main bots to stand out more. So I don't mind the mat paint of some of them. FT needs to get me my Blitzwing, this is the one they should be working on, not all the ones they have recently released. Priorities, heck, I want the Blitzwing before the Deadend. Blitzwing was Deadend, before Deadend.

He’s a good figure but at what point are we almost splitting hairs when it comes to comparing to xtransbots? For ex- If XTB had the front window paint of FT, I like the XTB just a little better. Idk. Getting to be a tougher and tougher call on these- aesthetically anyway.
Fanstoys collecting in and of itself is its own thing. They made this Trailbreaker, not to compete with XTB, and convert those that like the XTB Trailbreaker. They made it for their fans. Those like me and others that collect Fanstoys and not necessarily the characters themselves. Fanstoys, although “part” of the 3P space, is also separate in that they have A LOT of fans that will buy whatever they put out, regardless if we have one from another brand on the shelf.

I know FT has a loyal customer base but I don’t think they make their product just for their fans. It’s a market and they want to compete. They want to make money. And I gotta think they are aware of their competitors and plan accordingly.
As far as collecting, everyone does it for their own reasons for sure. If collecting FT is what you like, regardless of character, nothing wrong with that. Brand loyalty is a thing for many.
For me, I like certain characters more then others and some by other companies more then other. I have plenty of FT but like MMC, Takara, & XTB (although quality is not always there with XTB).
Yes, lambourginis are quite small. I have been in one and can confirm it.
Outrider looks god in both modes, has great sculpt, paint, materials, hardware and a nice transformation but the articulation is limited. It can't do the peck deck just like FT Apache, it doesn't have double jointed elbows, double jointed knees, the ab crunch is floppy and the head articulation is limited besides not being able to tab in properly. The bot mode scale, after the head is tabbed properly, seems to be on point but the truck mode seems a tad too small. I can't find it's proper scale without watching a cartoon episode but for a bot this big the alt mode seems a tad too small, I'm sure it's an original G1animation design thing.
At this point in time none of these flaws (specially the head not being able to tab in and the arms not doing the "peck deck") should be acceptable in TF action figures of this price point, specially since most exist to cut down expenses and amp profits. You know what?!!! It's making me think about the Takara Trailbreaker a bit more seriously (in my opinion it's the second best), if only I could actually see a Takara review before I have to pay for the FT preorder.

I think sellers are going to have it in stock for a while. There are other options available for the figure. You could wait for the Takara to have a review dropped to make your decision. It's not going to sell out. FT only sells out when no other company is making the character. There are still Huffers and Perceptors in stock on line for a discounted price.

Tab the 2 pegs behind the head into the cab before the front tab. It will work that way.
