- When we have a moment around the shop to play a pearl-trimmed @martinguitar dreadnought, we seem to instinctively launch into a Neil Young song (nothing wrong with that!). "After the Goldrush" has such a beautiful, pure melody, which seems perfectly suited to the sweetness offered by the classic Martin dreadnoughts. In this video, TME staffers Andy Cambria (playing a D-41) and Andrew Stern (playing a D-42) translate the vocal line to acoustic guitar. And to briefly address a question we're asked regularly in the shop: the D-41 and D-42 are essentially the same guitar. Only the enhanced level of pearl top trim on the D-42 (and its snowflake fingerboard inlays) set it apart.
What other @neilyoungchannel songs should we cover?

Both are beautiful guitars ! Best of the best ! I prefer the D-42 snowflake inlays.
Andrew and Andy, Really enjoyed your playing; lovely arrangement, very well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The D-41 has a satin finish on the neck and the 42 has a full lacquer finish. Might not mean much to some folks but I much prefer the 42 for that reason (along with the beautiful vintage style inlays).
Good point! I suppose we were operating under the assumption that the gloss neck really doesn't affect tone. But you're certainly right that a lot of people would find a -42 more desirable for that reason.
