But he was an easy out most of time during the Padres 2024 7-game postseason, where his batting average was .179, ouch! He was front and center in the 24 inning Padres offensive scoreless embarrassment that handed the Dodgers the playoff series. Machado should be looking for a job this off-season, not sitting on a guaranteed $300 million Padres payout over the next ten seasons. Preller messed this up bad. Machado will be sitting in a wheelchair, still earning $30+ million a season, before this wretched contract concludes…
I have no issues with this list of Gold Glovers that were selected. In a way the Padres were just a machine that nobody stood out. There were injuries too.
To be fair, Manny spent most of the first month as a DH, so that hurt his chances. However, I'm disappointed that Merrill wasn't on the list...and Juan Soto (in the AL) is???
No way Manny because he was mainly DH until healed enough. I think Crony, Profar and Merrill should have at least been finalists. I agree Tatis missed too much of the session to be a finalist.
I can't argue the list as it is. No one really stood out and Manny didn't really feel his position all season. As far as center fuel goes, He's got to make a name for himself first before he's going to be recognized. You have to earn it. Hopefully next season will be a different story in more ways than one.
Unfortunately the generations that watched Brooks play are getting old. I know because I'm one of them. That guy was incredible and unfortunately for him there was no sports center and there weren't games on nightly with cable. There was one game on Saturday and it was kind of a treat for National League City when they put in American League game on because that's the only time you saw those guys play. It's a whole new ball game today, everyone gets some exposure now. There were a lot of fun third baseman back then that could really feel their position, most didn't have the kind of bats third baseman of today bring, but there were a LOT of great defensive third baseman .
