Turkmenistan is 10 time richer than North Korea. They have 4th largest gas reserve in the world and population is just 5 million. @@mexicandy8581 well you don't right a wrong with a wrong and what if they were actually innocent and the us government is doing everything very ethically like lol
The reason we mainly see North Korea over Turkmenistan because Turkmenistan is forced to interact with the outside world to Survive. It has some of the largest natural gas reserves in the world and it has to constantly negotiate to get said gas out of the nation so they can sell it to China and the EU, 2 countries that need natural gas and don’t want to rely on the Russian monopoly. Thus when their first post soviet dictator died the country was softened to be more attractive to the west.
I've only heard about two dictatorships. It's so cool that you've been and felt both countries. And I am a South Korean so I can never go to North Korea.
Well, unlike North Korea, Turkmenistan is open. They are not same at all, maybe some opinion, but the facts are this: people can go abroad freely, i am from Turkmenistan and im studying in Shanghai. People are so happy in Turkmenistan, like you mentioned, not like in North Korea. Another fact that you say no people outside, Our population is about 4-5millions people, and on summer its super hot outside thats why no one walks in outside, because nothing to do, not like in Europe where even if its 50degree, you can still walk and see some old buildings, we are not, we are middle asian country with the desert, dont forget that. We have internet tho its weak sometimes, but everyone in Turkmenistan use Instagram, everyone knows what is happening in other countries, everyone wear Nike Adidas, drinks coke. Not like in North Korea where you cant find any of these. And people are struggling in North Korea they dont eat well, even just a food is a problem. In Turkmenistan we have wheat fruits vegetables everything. Most of our adults are Fat 😅. We have everything in Turkmenistan. People have money, every family have a house. And now we arw getting more open to the world. Its just a matter of time.
Shut up you muslim Romans. you have nothing related with Turkmens. you just pretend to be their friends for their oil and gas with ur f**ing dictator erdogan

A question for Drew:in retrospect, do you regret your trips to both countries? Especially N. K. you said how expensive it was and that the country is corrupt. So that's donating your good money to dark regimes
As a south korean, the reason why north korea happen to be a much oppressive government is because of the existence of south korea. Unlike turkmenistan where they can not worry about collapsing as much, north korea has example of their same people that shares blood that shows a brighter future which could be enough to crash the nation. Amd unlike mainland china, where they can easily allow their people to go to taiwan because they are sorta rich, north korea is just met with policy faillures. And theyve seem to kinda reviewed what happened to east germany by let them be exposed to foreign media i guess.

It's unnecessarily complicated, but for those wishing to travel freely it may be worth it.
Thank you for this post!
Have you heard of anyone successfully getting this? I have heard of lots of people trying and getting denied.
@@TProphet Two gyus on motorcycles from Bulgaria did it, they arrived with ferry from Azerbaijan and drove through Ashgabat and past Derwaza crater before entering Uzbekistan
The sad thing is that Nationalism (pride for/of your country) can be and is such a great thing, but so many corrupt people misuse it and make it look so evil.
Fun Fact: In Turkmenistan People earn more Money than in some Balkan Countries. Also Turkmenistan is not really like North Korea, they are also less isolated.
One word: Corruption
Actually I was given half a day to roam around on my own in Ashgabat when I was visiting Turkmenistan 3 years ago....I also saw local people watching satellite Turkish TV channels at home and in restaurants...it's definitely not as tightly monitored as in North Korea....people there DO know how to use VPN to have access to the outside world....
Turkmenistan is 10 time richer than North Korea. They have 4th largest gas reserve in the world and population is just 5 million. If in the future they open up their country for the world they can be rich like Qatar. On the other hand North Korea spend all money on nuclear weapons and lavish life of Kim Jon Un. Their per capita income is similar to sub Saharan Africa. So in future the difference can be like between Qatar and Somalia

Why don't you people protest against the dictator.... Together people can do anything
You can do it, you have a beautiful country with lots of natural resources, you can have your freedom and you can fight the system just don't let anyone from outside the country get involved in your business, always there is a hope it's 2019 almost 2020 no reason to stay behind while you have it all

@@mexicandy8581 well you don't right a wrong with a wrong and what if they were actually innocent and the us government is doing everything very ethically like lol
The reason we mainly see North Korea over Turkmenistan because Turkmenistan is forced to interact with the outside world to
Survive.
2:30 where you sat is a seat for the soldiers who fought at Korean War.
I've only heard about two dictatorships.
It's so cool that you've been and felt both countries.
And I am a South Korean so I can never go to North Korea.
Maybe one day you can... As Charlie Chaplin once said: "so long as men die, liberty will never perish".
If that's how you described your experience in those countries, I can't wait for you to visit Eritrea... The North Korea of Africa!

@@theo-potterI thought Belarus was the North Korea of Europe
Yes Turkmenistan isn’t like what it was 15 years ago. They are slowly opening up to the outside world. Meanwhile North Korea 🥴🥴🥴🥴

A question for Drew:in retrospect, do you regret your trips to both countries? Especially N. K. you said how expensive it was and that the country is corrupt. So that's donating your good money to dark regimes

Not surprising. Both were practising social distancing before it was “in fashion”.
North Korea is literally complete introvert 😂😂😂
As a south korean, the reason why north korea happen to be a much oppressive government is because of the existence of south korea. Unlike turkmenistan where they can not worry about collapsing as much, north korea has example of their same people that shares blood that shows a brighter future which could be enough to crash the nation. Amd unlike mainland china, where they can easily allow their people to go to taiwan because they are sorta rich, north korea is just met with policy faillures. And theyve seem to kinda reviewed what happened to east germany by let them be exposed to foreign media i guess.

Very well made video Drew, well done. I am very curious about North Korea and want to go there in the near future, but just like you said, it is very expensive.
Overall though, I think Turkmenistan is better than North Korea. The prison camps in NK, the labour camps, some citizens only able to eat rice and cabbage, and so much more.
Good job man
