We begin on a hand painted background, your usual Disney forest meadow, overlooked by a castle. The music is all calm, the princess walks out and onto some orchestral hill. Just when you think she's going to sing a lovely little tune and beckon the forest creatures, she whips her hair back, and sings this.
She is so very talented and in her interviews very down to earth, the musicians are great as well. Listening to all kinds of music helps you appreciate all kinds of music, from classical which I adore, music with no words is so liberating, and Jazz, then rap, pop. old school rock, indie, foreign, and then nothing compares to Metal . The lyrics hit a cord with me hard core
She is very much so not down to earth lol. There was a huge falling out with her former band members of the agonist, and there are plenty of personal accounts of people finding her to just have a big ego. There are plenty of really awesome down to earth women in metal like Tati from Jinjer, Chaney from Entheos, etc. Also, what proof do you expect? What, someone recorded her secretly? Some people with big egos are smart enough to not post stuff online and act that way in person.
What I really like with Alissa's voice is how she manages to blend some slight melodic elements at some parts of her growling. For example, when she sings "foaming at the mouth" you can hear her growl envelop the melody of the guitars. Now we just need Alissa and Angela to do a collaboration.
Except the Russian empire. Don't learn history from the lyrics. Actually, the Russian were enslaved by the (Tatar/Mongol) "Golden Horde" for 300 years, until they united and shook them off.
It's one thing to find a female lead vocalist that sounds this good. But to find one who is also drop dead gorgeous is quite a gift. These guys are badass!!!!

I may be wrong, but I believe the lyrics to this song are about our subconscious mind. "If you want the world use your mind" - When we start to use the subconscious mind, things become vastly different. We are able to learn much faster, tasks that seemed challenging become easy and you see the world from a different perspective. "Take control" - Take control of the thoughts and messages that enter our minds. For the words we use become our reality. "Feel the strength rise from within" - The power of the subconscious mind is already within everyone "If you really want it, the world is yours" - closing point. I may just be reading way to deep into the lyrics, but this is what popped out at me when I heard the song the first time.

Their older stuff as a whole is better than what they're putting just now, but the new material with the current vocalist definitely has potential. It's an exciting time to be an arch enemy fan just now.
This entire song is incredible. It's surprisingly upbeat and positive in some parts while still maintaining some darkness. Absolutely wonderful. It's like suddenly having a bright light of hope at the end of a dark tunnel full of misery and suffering.
I'm disappointed with some of the comments on this video/song. Personally, as a young metal-head, I'm proud and I LOVE that Arch Enemy are going out of the norms of "death metal" music, by replacing the stereotypical "death, blood, gore" with meaningful lyrics, that you can take something away from. And it's not even that, because I love Khaos Legions as a entity, but, having this, along with some of the other songs such as You Will Know My Name or War Eternal is a nice change, and I hope to see more of that in the upcoming album. Alissa and the band are doing an amazing job with this, and I anticipate more amazing music to come soon :)

I don't particularly care for this song but I have been a fan since 1999. pre Angela even. I think you should be open to experiencing classic death metal themes too and also keep enjoying this as well. that's why music is so great. each one of us gets something different and our experience is unique.
Firstly, they aren't Death Metal, they're Melodic Death Metal and I don't see many MDM bands sing about gore, it's more oldschool thing. Secondly, Chuck Shuldiner himself had replaced meaningless stereotypical lyrics with his philosophy. And this song is pretty generic modern MDM (that's mean power metal with harsh vocals, not real MDM) so they didn't break any stereotype.
You don't need to make your song sounds like a bad anime intro to put some meaningful lyrics in it. Listen to Nevermore and see what I'm talking about.

Angela Gassow is German not Swedish. The band is Swedish mainly because Michael Amott (the lead guitarist) is Swedish and both him and someone else (I think, don't know who, look it up if you want) founded arch enemy.

As a man from a non-english speaking country, I often find the very funny sight of someone declaring their love by singing Hotel California to their potential couples.This song has a similar effect on non-english speaking people. The looks on their faces when I explain to them the song actually means the opposite of what they tought is priceless.
But it also has the same effect as Hotel California for me. A horror story sung in a romantic manner is even more frightening, while an inspiring song presented this way is even more inspiring.

It's not mumbling most of the time. It's speed that fucks up the ear's ability to differentiate distinct sounds. Making it sound like mumbling. This is a most stellar bad ass speed metal. A throwback from 2017 I remember after not hearing it in 5 years. It's such an awesome sound and lyrics.

I completely agree with you i've listen so many metal bands but never really listened to Arch Enemy. But since i've heard few songs. My Spotify playlist is on repeat with their songs :)
Their older stuff as a whole is better than what they're putting just now, but the new material with the current vocalist definitely has potential. It's an exciting time to be an arch enemy fan just now.
This entire song is incredible. It's surprisingly upbeat and positive in some parts while still maintaining some darkness. Absolutely wonderful. It's like suddenly having a bright light of hope at the end of a dark tunnel full of misery and suffering.

I'm disappointed with some of the comments on this video/song. Personally, as a young metal-head, I'm proud and I LOVE that Arch Enemy are going out of the norms of "death metal" music, by replacing the stereotypical "death, blood, gore" with meaningful lyrics, that you can take something away from. And it's not even that, because I love Khaos Legions as a entity, but, having this, along with some of the other songs such as You Will Know My Name or War Eternal is a nice change, and I hope to see more of that in the upcoming album. Alissa and the band are doing an amazing job with this, and I anticipate more amazing music to come soon :)

I think you should be open to experiencing classic death metal themes too and also keep enjoying this as well.
that's why music is so great. each one of us gets something different and our experience is unique.
Firstly, they aren't Death Metal, they're Melodic Death Metal and I don't see many MDM bands sing about gore, it's more oldschool thing. Secondly, Chuck Shuldiner himself had replaced meaningless stereotypical lyrics with his philosophy.
And this song is pretty generic modern MDM (that's mean power metal with harsh vocals, not real MDM) so they didn't break any stereotype.
You don't need to make your song sounds like a bad anime intro to put some meaningful lyrics in it. Listen to Nevermore and see what I'm talking about.

Angela Gassow is German not Swedish. The band is Swedish mainly because Michael Amott (the lead guitarist) is Swedish and both him and someone else (I think, don't know who, look it up if you want) founded arch enemy.

As a man from a non-english speaking country, I often find the very funny sight of someone declaring their love by singing Hotel California to their potential couples.This song has a similar effect on non-english speaking people. The looks on their faces when I explain to them the song actually means the opposite of what they tought is priceless.
But it also has the same effect as Hotel California for me. A horror story sung in a romantic manner is even more frightening, while an inspiring song presented this way is even more inspiring.
Yaroslav Mytkalyk can’t understand a word and I’m no stranger to this style of music . She sounded better when she whispered. Chicken Squawk vocals aren’t as good as deep Hounds Of Hell barking metal

It's not mumbling most of the time. It's speed that fucks up the ear's ability to differentiate distinct sounds. Making it sound like mumbling. This is also why it's a common habit to make people understand you by speaking slower. There is indeed method to madness. But I would agree that this sounds better than almost any rap song.
