Knife Making - Making a Tanto knife!

- For the second knife for the series I make a tanto blade. Or at least a somewhat version of a tanto blade, also made from an old file. The handle and saya are made from a piece of red oak, meranti pin and a pice of copper. Pretty happy with the result of this tanto. Also, my forging still sucks, but it's getting better.

Nice file!!it's a bacho. 14 euros????.very nice knife from file.
What size is the pin hole?
What kind of grind is that on the bevel?
Hi, it's a convex grind! Thanks for watching
Cool thanks
Oke ik ben wel nederlands en ik maak ook messen en zwaarden.

+Robin Coomans I have a question
Is it true if you use the Katana on wood, opening boxes, or not taking care of it, is a disrespect to japanese culture
Hi! I don't know to be honest, not an expert on Japanese culture over here. But.. that wouldn't really surprise me if they find that sort of thing to be disrespectful. Thanks for watching!
+Robin Coomans ,urgent question, my Tanto has scrathes on the blade, I tried polishing them but they wont come off, s there some kind of polishing technique you blacksmiths have, if you ask how did it get scrathes, its from wood batoning
What were you battoning through? Rocks? 😜 The only way to get rid of scratches is to sand past them. For example start with 240 grit until they are gone and then work your way up to 800 or so to remove the scratches from the previous grit. Then you start to use some scotchbright pads and later on polishing compound. If it sound like a lot of work...well, it is. That's why I personally don't even bother to remove scratches from use, they'll come back immediately the next time you do something with. If you want your knife to look all nice and polished.. don't use it or use on something soft like jelly, bananas, spinach and what have you. I would love it if there was an easy way to do this, good luck!
Well I only used my Tanto to baton wood is because there was no other big knife atm, and it was a test. But wouldnt sanding ruin the mirror finish, bit either way thanks for ur answer and cool channel, I am subbed
Historical Arms And Armor TV Thanks man! Of course I was just joking with the rocks part. Sanding will definitely ruin the mirror finish, that's why it is so much work to bring it back. And that's also why I personaly would just leave the scratches. 👊👊👊
Do I spot a dragon priest mask? : D
Yes! That's correct :)
Nutella at the beginning
Haha yes ;) Now it's filled with oil I used to quench small things... a little bit less delicious. Thanks for watching!
Ah, quenching in Nutella sounds like exactly what I would be watching on RUclips at 1 am
Are you dutch?
Belgisch ;)
Robin Coomans ik dacht het door je naam en de houtlijm die je gebruikte
That a Skyrim priest mask in the background?
Sure is! :)
What is it made of? It's pretty awesome. I put a couple hundred hours into that game and now my daughter plays it.
Same man, love TES games! I carved it out of a block of pine last year for a silly halloween video.
