      Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. There are pieces of ducting included in the kit to complete the defrost system. The pieces fasten roughly into stock position (if I remember correctly), and have flexible tubing leading to them from the air box. The air box has dedicated ducts for the defrost setting to function properly. Sorry I wasn't able to include everything in the video, Vintage Air's video is really complete as well as their instructions if you need more info. Thanks again for watching!

    I hope vintage Air gave you some money for this video! I’m definitely buying a unit for my 84 Monte right after this video is over. Great video! I definitely just subscribed to your channel. Great camera work, editing skills are on point!

    • @keefershotrodshop
      @keefershotrodshop  13 дней назад

      Most of it should work except maybe the ducting, but if you have most of your factory components, "Original Air Group" or "Classic Auto Air" sells parts to make the factory stuff work. You would install a new compressor, condenser, lines, and preferably evaporator (for best performance) and you would switch to 134A refrigerant. Thanks for watching and I wish you the best of luck with your project!

    Greetings,
    Great video, thanks. I have the same instrument cluster in my cutlass. The only gauge that works is the volts…I purchased a new circuit board and still no luck. The speedo and tach work, but not the temp , oil or fuel (I also replaced the sending unit for the oil and temp)…my question is “is there a ground wire somewhere for these non-working gauges that I am missing?”

    • @keefershotrodshop
      @keefershotrodshop  11 месяцев назад

      Hi, Thanks for watching! There is a ground wire, but the main things that I would check on, since the tach and volt gauges work, are the sending units on the engine, and more specifically the electrical path between them and the gauge cluster. The sending units could be bad, or more likely not hooked up correctly, especially if the engine has been changed or removed and installed. The bulkhead connector at the firewall is probably fine, but is another potential failure point for continuity. Does the fuel gauge read full or empty? Sometimes the wiring can get messed up or corroded/oxidized where it connects to the fuel sending unit in the tank, especially if the tank has been removed or anything like that. If I remember correctly, the fuel level wire is pink and pops out of the rear of the car behind the tank. It might be worth cleaning any contact that you can get to, but there might be a bad ground somewhere. Maybe check continuity between the ground pin on the cluster connector and the body? Another idea is, if you swapped the cluster in the car from a non-gauge cluster to a gauge type cluster, there are a few pins that need to be rearranged. Good luck, and thanks for watching and chiming in!

    • @keefershotrodshop
      @keefershotrodshop  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks! I'd have to look in/at the unit to check on that. I don't know if there is a filter off the top of my mind. If not, you might be able to put something against the intake if you wanted. Thanks for watching!

      Thank you! I actually used 3 partial kits, since I am not using a compressor/bracket kit from them. The partial kits I used are #s 565087, 525083, and 025082.The 565085 kit appears to be for a Regal, where as my car is a Cutlass, but that is the same basic system. Thanks again for watching!

      Thanks! I appreciate it! Glad I'm able to get the point across. I have a Pinto, but no Vegas sitting around... ...there's nothing dumb about doing some research and watching videos. Good luck with your project! People are doing well on leaf springs these days using cal tracs and similar setups, but ladder bars work really well for small tire no prep too.

      @@keefershotrodshop would u do a 4 link or ladder bar in it with a 10.5 tire for n/p or street racing

    • @keefershotrodshop
      @keefershotrodshop  Год назад

      @@tjtrantham8192 It depends on how complete the car is, there really is no reason to back-half it these days. There is really good leaf spring technology available.; you can mini tub it and bring the springs inboard using mono-leafs and cal-tracs or something similar and do really well with good sliders and shocks. If the car is already cut or gutted, and you really wanted to back-half it and/or get the tires tucked in really well, for no-prep stuff, ladder bars work surprisingly well, but 4 link gives you more versatility; like if you wanted to put radials on it and go to a prepped track, or if you want to get serious about tuning instant center and antisquat.

    What all does that relay control @ 23:50? My orange and pink wires on one of the plugs were cut by the previous owner.

    • @keefershotrodshop
      @keefershotrodshop  26 дней назад +1

      It's for the power antenna (the radio has an accessory power wire that triggers this relay if I remember correctly), and it might also power an amplifier optionally. I think the Pink one comes from the radio, and Orange is typically positive 12V on GM stuff. I can't remember what the side of the relay with the green and gray wire is for, possibly also for the stereo or lighting. Thanks for watching!

      Sorry to take so long, I meant to reply earlier. Vintage Air has moved onto their generation V kit now, which is available with or without the compressor and bracketry. Here is the complete kit: vintageair.com/1982-88-oldsmobile-cutlass-with-factory-air-gen-5-magnum-max-surefit-complete-kit/ They also have kits available without the compressor if you already have one included with an aftermarket pulley system or something. • @keefershotrodshop
      @keefershotrodshop  4 месяца назад +1

      Vintage air doesn't offer a kit for a 78 malibu at this point, but they do offer a kit for 82-88 El Caminos and Monte Carlos , which is probably very similar, but other companies make kits as well as parts kits to restore factory systems such as vintage auto air and original air group.
