  • HAULOVER BOATS BATTLE SOME BIG WAVES! | Boats vs Haulover Inlet
    Haulover Boats run into some big waves at Haulover Inlet. Gloomy weather with some thunder and a couple of showers. Big stuffing by a BlackWater Boat as well.

    Big stuffing from that BlackWater boat... How could that have been avoided?

    • @larzDJ
      @larzDJ 4 года назад +26

      By using the proper speed. You need to pass over the waves, not ride them like a roller coaster. Notice that the slower these boats go, the wetter they get.

      thats what i think,the captain could've maintained the same speed as the wave but for the sake of passenggers to get more fun/experiences he just blast the throttle a bit more when entering haulover.The bigger the screamings,the bigger the excitements !!
      And if we are going out to the sea,we have to go slow as the wave is coming towards the boat/beach.For a small boat its not advisable to do frog jumping each wave because the front tip of the boat might end up dipping into the next wave...try not to navigating the boat perpendicular to the wave,take some angle

    Make sure your trim tabs are up and even tilt the engines up a bit to keep the bow up and don’t accelerate faster than the wave, stay with the wave, surf it in. The people that commented more speed would be in much bigger trouble if they did that. Probably don’t comment unless you know the Haulover inlet or if you have no idea how to drive a boat.

    Only one safe way to come in over a bar, Wait for the largest wave, let it go through, throttle up and sit on the back, don't ever go over the top or you will bury the nose, this way there will be water under your boat at all times, if you let the next wave catch up it will take control of your boat.

  • @dob23

    Man you just brought back one of the most terrifying yet FUN memories of my life if this is in Miami , 12' craftsmen V hull boat with 25 horse motor heading out in serious waves to the extent the Coast Guard was turning people back around and not letting them out of the inlet. Yes we were out of our minds . Use to have a blast jumping off Haulover Bridge .
    Another time a devious friend tricked me into going into the cabin to grab something and he locked the door then proceeded to slam through the inlet nearly killing me bouncing around the cabin all the while he was wailing and laughing so hard he nearly wrecked the boat.

    Waves over the bow fix = I had a cruiser and used to run out at Lynnhaven Inlet in Va Bch, in order to keep overwash to a min would set speed to "surf the wave depending on whether tide was incoming or outgoing. Usually it worked.

    Nothing like taking the million plus dollar boat out and filling it with seawater. I think there’s some money in offering services on how to operate ones boat in rough conditions, negotiating the inlet, and learning the limitations of ones skill level before taking a very expensive boat out and almost sinking it. That would require someone realizing their unsafe so it may be a stretch.

    • @xxturbowesxx
      @xxturbowesxx 4 года назад

      Pretty much designed to take on water. Deck and bilge are separate with thru hulls/self bailing that simply allow the water to run out. Other than if you had some stuff on the ground that got wet it's no big deal.

    @richardwelkiv8325 4 года назад

    Thank you for the video . Here is my armchair observation for today . What bothered me the most with the Blackwater is that from what I can see that boat has a full transom . Unless there is something going on that I am not aware of the only way I can see that water exiting that deck is through the scuppers . And that was one hell of a lot of water he took on board . I have read a lot of David Pascoe who is a marine surveyor and in one article he gave an example of outboard cut outs and onboard water .
    In one he showed an outboard powered Bertram where for lack of a better term there was no transom . He also showed examples of outboard powered boats that had a very little cutout for the outboard . The latter was the one I was most familiar with . I could not see or understand the advantage of the Bertram until he explain removing water from the deck . Anything that hit the Bertram immediately exited the stern . He wrote of how he had a friend with the smaller cutout that had a walk around that took on some water that immediately sank with the dog in the cabin because it could not exited / remove the water fast enough .
    How it happened is obvious . You have a roaring out going current where the operator launches himself off one wave just to bury his bow / nose in another and the current and his forward motion does the rest .
    Either tuck yourself in between two waves or put the coat to her . JMTCS

    If the front section of the boat's Water Line is wide and open, the volume side of the story will try to avoid the water side of the story, which is trying to gush in....!!
    In this case, the driver should reduce the speed a bit if he knows the BWL @ front section is very narrow.

      James Farnham fishing boats like that normally have two exits on the rear that help drain water out. Some are just open holes that are always open where the boat fill with water when you go in reverse, but as long as it moves forward the water will drain right out. Then you also have bilge pumps for any water inside the actual hull.
