A lot of people are commenting, asking if I'm going to remake this video for 2022. The answer is no, I don't think place is as organic or interesting this time around, although it is still fun. Other people out there will no doubt make similar videos, once the dust has settled I'll share my favorite here.
Yeah everyone is so angry over someone taking over their place in the canvas. There's barely no change over the course of the event except for some exciting parts here and there on some few hours that occurred. It was so exciting before cuz' there's always war happening and not much of that today.
I'm not sure i agree that this place was less organic (bar the botting) but i understand not making a video. In many ways this place was largely similar to 2017, just on a larger canvas with different factions and cultural trends. It was an absolute blast to partake in though.
Actually, it's much better than that: 1. Germany invades France 2. France rebuilds itself after being invaded 3. Germany and France finally make peace, forming the EU 4. Other European countries join in on the EU idea and start building their flags nearby 5. The EU is going pretty strong but has lots of infighting because there are at least three different designs for how the stars are supposed to look. 6. Other countries, especially Italy and Spain keep accusing France and Germany of trying to control the EU by hogging all the prime space near the EU flag. Literally all of this matches real history so closely it's seriously uncanny.
r/de tried to defend the french flag against the r/all mob. after the all mob moved on, the french tried to get the territory back and the people from r/europe decided to make a EU flag between them
Well Dunkirk was mostly British evacuations. Very few French escaped during Dunkirk itself. The French stayed to defend for the mostly British retreat. French volunteers from Vichy France went to the UK to form the Free French forces, which is after Dunkirk.
Towards the end of /r/place the Void disguised itself as Rainbow Road and tried to take over the American Flag, causing Rainbow Road to team up with American Flag to defend it. That was my favourite part of the whole thing, the defenses and alliances.
That was legendary. r/AFlagInPlace and r/The_Donald recreated Fort McHenry and held that flag up. My other favorite part is how the Ohio State fans ninja'd two pixels onto the Michigan "Go Blue" to turn it into "Go Bloe". Such clever shit!

Okay so you have a historylesson and do not mention the biggest flag on the canvas, Sweden, that is way bigger than Germany. You also didn't mention the green lattice, which was the only real challenger to the blue corner and rainbowroad in the beginning, and ended with more covered space than the blue corner
I love watching these and remembering it, I feel like /r/placehearts always gets left out of the retellings though. There was a whole conflict with the French which ended with us creating themed hearts. Eventually that set a standard for whenever our "territory" crossed other factions. Placehearts represented a pretty sizable portion of the canvas.
