i think this only worked for me, but if i had the timer going in one tab, i could infinitely place blocks in another. when the timer on the first ran out, it would work in the second tab & the first would be glitched, & on & on
I fought in the Norwegian war. I bravely defended the Texan flag to the last pixel. I will never forgot how the Yogscast offered their undying support. I thank the dwarven army for their help, we will never forget your support.
In the top right, next to green lattice, I helped build the drifter from Hyper Light Drifter. We're one of the few peice that finished without a single pixel wrong. It was an incredible experience.
I helped turn the AMD logo partly green, fought for the American flag, and fought to maintain the CSGO logo. The void attacked when everyone in America was asleep but then we took back over once we woke up.
This whole thing reminds me of the opening of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, where it starts out simple but gets more and more animated as it goes on.
Should have mentioned Germany invading the French flag. The French evaded, and Germany continued to expand. They eventually crossed back together, and the EU flag was created in their crossing section.
*read in heavy English accent* As the void of the the 4 Chan faction with it's tens of thousands of men swarming over the land of wonder and dreams, they massacre all that lye in their wake, women, men, children. I was the last one left, 36 others were killed just like the rest. I expected them to do to me what they did the rest, but no, they felt it would be better to leave me, to let the grief and anguish slowly take my mind away from me. They left me, left me to wear with nothing but a water skin and 2 days of rashions, and so I went I went till I could no further, and I began to walk, walk till my knees collapsed. And there I met my end. Visiting 4chan, not even once
2:28 "Much like Lost, the button didn't mean anything" ...WHAT?! What are you talking about?! The button in Lost did mean A LOT and when they stopped pressing it everything went to shit
I think he meant that lost did not mean anything at all, it was just another jacobs ladder as it was all a fevered dream of the main character as he was laying in the sand dying from wounds caused by the crash. and he eventually had to return to that reality as he was about to actually lose brain function and actually die, Not the button itself in lost had no meaning lol. though I could be wrong, you should as the creator to be sure.
Man, that theory is depressing. :/ But yeah, the button WAS important, because even though they _kind of_ said it was useless, it actually kept the energy (or whatever the f*&% the show revolved around) from going critical and destroying the island. Or the world, or some shit. I don't know Lost really needed to be more clear. :L
Pepe has been more or less adopted by Nazis and white supremacists, much to the chagrin of the guy who created him. The character is actually a kind, goofy and awkward, er, anthropomorphic frog.
flaetsbnort Pepe was a meme because he was such a shitty drawing for Hispanic children to be forced to look at it. Then Hillary Clinton said it was a hate symbol and then right wingers (not Nazis) use all the time in response to the ridiculousness of calling this shitty frog drawing a white supremacist symbol.
flaetsbnort by that logic the ‘dance’ move called the dab is only a symbol for Jake Paul and his Jake Paulette and not anything else. Cause you know, things can’t have multiple meanings and things are as black and white as the holy matriarch Hillary says they are.
Things can have multiple meanings, but one of them can eclipse the others, if one of them was used by, for instance, a group that succesfully elected someone as the president of the United States of America. That makes me sad as I, like its creator, prefer its original symbology as a sad and awkward but good-natured frog dude, but for the majority of people that is not what it refers to.
"Where are the swasticas?" My theory: Often trolls who want to insert those are alone. There is no open community behind trolling things by addind swasticas. It's more of an underground movement, where no one knows anyone else. Each individual feels like belonging to a movement, but there really is no community. I think anonymity plays a big role. The intent is to be sneaky. To annoy others without them having any clue who did it. This brings a feel of power, as the troll them has complete knowledge of the situation while others don't, hence he's feeling as if he was above them. However on r/place you could only place one pixel every 10 minutes making it impossible for a single person to create anything. And of course here comes the lack of communication in the troll community; there simply is no subreddit where people who would like to put a swastica on place would meet to plan. Such a sub would not make sense because a) anonymity, see above and b) the point of trolling is to do it everywhere, not just on one dedicated sub. This is such a special case, requiring a coordinated attack from groups of trolls, that simply never really existed before.
Man watching this after getting the opportunity to be a part of r/place in 2022 feels nice. Hope he comes back maybe to make a follow up vid or something
"Maybe we're much more excited to share the things that we love than shit on the things that other people love that we actually hate." r/osugame cries.
Interestingly no one mentions bots in their coverage of r/place. After the first 24 hours it became fairly evident that there are a lot of bots defending certain parts of it and as time went on and bots got better a lot of the new art was made by bots. It's hard to tell how many bots there were but I would say that without them the black void would be a lot bigger.
no denying us swedes used a heck of a lot of bots, but as you can se on a closeup timelapse with a timestamp, during Swedish nights the flag was infested with miscoloured dots, and if anyone had made a serious attack on it and used some bots themselves no amount of bots could have stopped it.
"Where are the swastikas?" Well, there actually was 3 big swastikas around the top right corner after ~3h of r/place being alive, made mostly by /pol/ (4chan) but the reddit mods deleted them, I think there is still screenshots of them but it was even erased from the official image recordings.
Sounds like this RUclips video by another, smaller RUclipsr. Seems like he just used the same script but with a few, small changes. ruclips.net/video/ljSnAd6omJ8/видео.html
HicaptainWorld lol where have you been? It was indoctrinated by white supremacists through a convoluted process and Pepe was covered by major news outlets as a "white supremacist symbol"
I’ve always said this; Anarchy always leads to Order* *When, Ambition, and minimal, basic, constructive rules are applied, anarchy will always evolve into Order
Pokemon Go started off as an April fools joke. When you take the chains off creativity and just have fun, every now and then you get something awesome.... if fleeting.
AndroidsDontDance correct, not literally. Good thing I never made that claim haha. It was based on one. An April fools joke where pokemon spawned on Google maps and u could drive around ant "catch" them. It blew up so Nintendo bought the company who made ingress as it was very similar to what they wanted and boom! The birth of pokemon go! Tho tbh it should have been obvious I wasn't speaking literally but more waxing poetically haha You can't literally chain up a concept such as creativity. ;-)
You bring up such a good point. In a way, April Fool's is one of the best holidays out there just because of what amazing things can unintentionally sprout from the jokes
the pepe meme died because people began to take it as a destructive symbol, due to certain people making pepe memes based on figures such as hitler and stalin. the media labelled it a hate symbol due to this minority
The,” My little Dashie,” part is what I mostly know of this. I’m a giant Brony and I’m sad I wasn’t apart of this. The Brony fandom teamed up with quite a few others, especially Doctor who. It was amazing and beautiful.
@7:10 - What's wrong with Pepe? It's a fucking meme. It was never a hate symbol, the media spun it that way and Anti-Semite/etc groups decided to roll with it. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
For the record, I was just fucking around. In the video, he says "Where's the swastikas? Sure there's a Pepe over there and Charmander's got a big dong but...". He lists Swastikas and Charmander's big dong while in context of making a list of "bad internet-isms", surely he lists Pepe in the middle of them because it's a super popular meme. Not really though, that's not how lists work. #FreePepe2017 #PepeDidNothingWrong
i participated, but then again i love digital graffiti, and the entire concept of it, making a semi perm mark in areas where you wouldnt expect it, MMO books that let you leave things in them, etc etc, their is an entire underground world of just this concept alone, and devolping new ways to leave a mark somewhere, this experiment was amazing
2:28 you're saying that the button in Lost didn't mean anything? Sounds like somebody stopped watching. The button prevents a powerful electromagnet from in part destroying the island after a hydrogen bomb was detonated over an electromagnetic pocket at the end of series 5.
It’s started as randomness, then clans formed and started taking over everything, and then majority of them decided to make alliances and stick to what they have
Man, I remember our Dashie. We defended and held on to that pony with clutches of steel. No one could put a dent in her! She was a pretty significant size relative to those around her, too. We had some pretty good alliances too; most of our neighbors were our allies. My favorite event was the numerous attacks on OSU. While I admittedly was on on the attacking end somewhat, I have to give then kudos for their dedication. The whole thing reminded me of empires, governments, and politics from a historical standpoint.
I think r/places lack of hate shows not that the people on the internet are inherently good but that people on the internet are more willing to come together for love rather than hate
I like the idea that it is an expression who the community really is. It allowed the power of the group to express themselves instead of the usual lone wolf spoiling things.
I only today learned of this experiment and I'm completely floored by it. One of the greatest social experiments ever performed with an online population, and I hope someone earned their doctorate for it.
But the button did mean something in Lost. The swan was a cork for the intense amount of energy under the island, failing to press the button caused the energy pocket to burst
In one of the lesser-known examples, I was one of the many who helped organize fans of the Ace Combat video games to put the logo of an organization in the games, ISAF, on r/place. We were overwritten by fans of the Montreal Canadiens, but both communities worked together to rebuild Ace Combat elsewhere. In the bottom-right, we put down the logo of Project Aces, the internal team at Bandai Namco that makes Ace Combat games, as well as "r/acecombat". We were vandalized a bit right before it all shut down, but I'm still very proud of what we managed to accomplish. r/place truly was lightning, the briefest moment in history but a beautiful one.
I found r/place on accident and then helped defend Tiny Rick while watching the Rick and Morty premiere.. lol I didn't know when it began. It was already covered in pixels by then and it had only been up for less than a day. I miss it.
Someone needs to make a place.io game, it would be so popular :D (well that and I didn't get to play it originally so if there is a place.io I will actually get to ;_;)
I remember the peace treaty between the Blue Corner and Rainbow Road that allowed us to pass through the corner as long as we used only a single rainbow band
I am just so proud we at r/Thefarleftside managed to keep our symbols alive even though we were under attack 24/7, also loved how subreddits with nothing in common just manage to get together and shared the same space
I don't like the using the final end picture to refer to /r/place, because it's clearly the result of bots and not organic human coordination. I want to find a timelapse video and screengrab the last human version before the bots took over.
Are you joking dude? Like, by the second day, the majority of pixels were being edited by macro code. I mean, personally I still consider it organic (computers are as natural as leaves, guys, we are part of nature not above it) but it was definitely bots.
I NEED A VIDEO GAME LIKE THIS. Just a game where players can make their own factions and try to take over or defend as much of a board as possible, with a massive amount of boards that can be considered "cities." Imagine just massive wars with Blue Corner against The Void.
the void claimed to pave the way for new art but any place that they took that they were not routed from stayed void, there were two options, destroy the void or be permanatly destroyed yourself
it really was a wild ride. I was there helping the rest of /r/porterrobinson defend our kaomoji from attackers. proud to see that its there in the final piece with not a single pixel out of place!
I missed r/place. I wasn't aware it existed until it was too late
I was actually too early, and was so confused and had no idea what it was and forgot about it until it was over.
LucianoThePig same
i got around the timer & had an amazing time. i wish i was there for the hour before it ended
Got around the timer?

How could you not bring up the Germany France invasion and then them coming together to form the EU flag
It’s because it’s a given. That was, like, the 4th time Germany invaded France in modern history.
The rainbow made it form into eu

because american youtuber sees american flag in the middle and that’s the only thing they care about over there.
No mention of the French and German flag that intersected each other creating the European Union.

r/mexico could not make it. Only place void won and I still mourn.
Pyrus /r/CrusaderKings visualized /r/LONESTAR and we were able to create the flag again!
I helped invading France.
Pyrus I just fucked with the bronies by making ponies into penies the whole time lmao
Was really sad that rick roll QR code was vandalized at the last hour of r/place
I’m severely disappointed and my life is forever ruined.

Lol, I also saw some swatzikas in it
now imagine if 4chan did this
God of the Corn void was a 4chan goof
Who do you think did all the swastikas?
*read in heavy English accent*
As the void of the the 4 Chan faction with it's tens of thousands of men swarming over the land of wonder and dreams, they massacre all that lye in their wake, women, men, children. They took all my loved ones, my friend, my dignity, I was one of the 37 survivors that managed to run far enough, but my efforts meant nothing. I was the last one left, 36 others were killed just like the rest. I expected them to do to me what they did the rest, but no, they felt it would be better to leave me, to let the grief and anguish slowly take my mind away from me. They'd just collectively draw a huge picture of Pepe
April Fool's social experiments on Reddit date beyond The Button. Someone forgot about the great war of Periwinkle and OrangeRed.
Selecko If you're referring to NFW... 😂😂😂
Selecko Team Periwinkle for me
John Woods - Reddit Mold was fun. I remember Notch could only type the letter m.
OrangeRed
newbie here, someone explain these things?
2:28 "Much like Lost, the button didn't mean anything" ...WHAT?! What are you talking about?! The button in Lost did mean A LOT and when they stopped pressing it everything went to shit
I think he meant that lost did not mean anything at all, it was just another jacobs ladder as it was all a fevered dream of the main character as he was laying in the sand dying from wounds caused by the crash. and he eventually had to return to that reality as he was about to actually lose brain function and actually die, Not the button itself in lost had no meaning lol. though I could be wrong, you should as the creator to be sure.
DavrK WHY TF IS EVERYBODY SPOILING LOST
Man, that theory is depressing. :/
But yeah, the button WAS important, because even though they _kind of_ said it was useless, it actually kept the energy (or whatever the f*&% the show revolved around) from going critical and destroying the island.
Or the world, or some shit. I don't know Lost really needed to be more clear. :L
Thats an interesting take on the events of Lost but its highly unlikely to the canon events.
I know u from HTB arg

Did he compare pepe to swastikas and dongmander?
Pepe has been more or less adopted by Nazis and white supremacists, much to the chagrin of the guy who created him. The character is actually a kind, goofy and awkward, er, anthropomorphic frog.
flaetsbnort Pepe was a meme because he was such a shitty drawing for Hispanic children to be forced to look at it. Then Hillary Clinton said it was a hate symbol and then right wingers (not Nazis) use all the time in response to the ridiculousness of calling this shitty frog drawing a white supremacist symbol.
It was a white supremacist symbol, as it was being used by white supremacists to represent themselves.
flaetsbnort by that logic the ‘dance’ move called the dab is only a symbol for Jake Paul and his Jake Paulette and not anything else.
"Where are the swasticas?"
My theory: Often trolls who want to insert those are alone.

I helped keep the Nintendo Switch logo at the top right intact. Mostly the text, though.
Hanzo Switch
Shoulda just kept it as Hanzo switch tbh
This is like a buzzfeed article in video form
btw im not a bot im a copy and paste guy XD
7:15 "and sure there is a pepe over here." HOW DOES PEPE HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH A SWASTIKA

Exactly. You liberals think 4chan is a white supremacist website. Lmao get a life. It is just a fucking frog, a meme for 12 year olds.

i participated, but then again i love digital graffiti, and the entire concept of it, making a semi perm mark in areas where you wouldnt expect it, MMO books that let you leave things in them, etc etc, their is an entire underground world of just this concept alone, and devolping new ways to leave a mark somewhere, this experiment was amazing
It is time for your return.
2:28 you're saying that the button in Lost didn't mean anything? Sounds like somebody stopped watching. The button prevents a powerful electromagnet from in part destroying the island after a hydrogen bomb was detonated over an electromagnetic pocket at the end of series 5.
The more I hear people talk about this show, the more happy I am that I didn't watch it.
No, he said ''Much like Lost, the button didnt mean anything''
Hes talking about the whole series, not just the button in there
Place should come back randomly for 1 hour
:D
.
I was on it! See the origami6 logo on the top left?
Samper Delarzal no one cares
Elias Games i care
I care too
Samper Delarzal i too, care
some people care, those are the goodies
It’s started as randomness, then clans formed and started taking over everything, and then majority of them decided to make alliances and stick to what they have
2:21 That was the BEST reference you could've used. xD THANK YOU! :D
A "The Great War" youtube series style mini documentary on rPlace would be interesting
gltovar thats kinda why I want a sequel of /r/place. The diplomacy interested me.
Protec hoars
Blue/Clyde Animations Wow you’re such a great person.
Bradley Gao Thanks ;)
You're welcome =D
Seriously? Another one? Stop
It's coming back!!
I think r/places lack of hate shows not that the people on the internet are inherently good but that people on the internet are more willing to come together for love rather than hate
I like the idea that it is an expression who the community really is. It allowed the power of the group to express themselves instead of the usual lone wolf spoiling things.
I disagree. Greatest social experiment was Twitch Plays Pokémon (the first one)
Otherwise, great episode = )
True! but the greatest Reddit social experiment has been this one, by far.
A N A R C H Y
r/place 2022 update vid coming soon?
love the midi version of im blue at 5:40
I only today learned of this experiment and I'm completely floored by it. One of the greatest social experiments ever performed with an online population, and I hope someone earned their doctorate for it.
Unus annus would be a perfect topic for this show.
"Where are the swastikas"
This isnt 4chan yall
I hope you do a video on r/place 2022! it's back and its cool!
But the button did mean something in Lost. The swan was a cork for the intense amount of energy under the island, failing to press the button caused the energy pocket to burst
Retro was looking for this comment lmao ur right
the blue corner defeating Dongmander was the best thing i have ever seen tbh
I miss it.
Someone needs to make a place.io game, it would be so popular :D (well that and I didn't get to play it originally so if there is a place.io I will actually get to ;_;)
James Lewis I'm not sure you'd call it a game, but I think you'd like pxls.space.
That "pxls.space" is actually pretty cool, thanks
DarklinkXXXX pxls.space is compeletely full of flags and imageboard wars
So it's basically a pretty good r/place emulator then? Can't really complain about that :D
pixelcanvos.io
I was actually thinking about the million dollar home page when I saw this.
I remember the peace treaty between the Blue Corner and Rainbow Road that allowed us to pass through the corner as long as we used only a single rainbow band
I had completely forgotten that this channel existed. Damn I miss this guy.
7:12 Did he just compare Pepe to the Nazis?
I am just so proud we at r/Thefarleftside managed to keep our symbols alive even though we were under attack 24/7, also loved how subreddits with nothing in common just manage to get together and shared the same space
adiosnoob long live comrade party parrot
Almost every single pixel I placed was red or yellow.
Pepe did nothing wrong
Right? And what's wrong with Charmander dick?
I want to like but it's already at 69
I kind of wished that it went on for an entire week. Imagine how that would have turned out.
2 years later and reddit still hasn't topped this.
6:18 right side...
LMG MOUNTED AND LOADED!!
Watching the black void inching towards my flag like "LEAVE IRELAND ALONE!!1!"
You gonna ask Lafayette to bring guns and ships?
why no starry plow?
4:07
put that rainbow in my mouth!!!!
We're gonna need the sequel to this, Sam
prequelmemes was probably the most fascinating thing to come about, since it was enormous and mostly fine
4:24 Ah, I get it. An orchestral arrangement of Paint It Black
music at 5:40?
I'm sorry, I have no idea.
I’m Blue- 8 bit remix
I'm blue if I was green I would die, if I was green I would die...
Yeet. :)
I don't like the using the final end picture to refer to /r/place, because it's clearly the result of bots and not organic human coordination. I want to find a timelapse video and screengrab the last human version before the bots took over.
Ben Dover R/osuplace actually didnt use any Bots!
Only a big Discord
And many circle clicking RSI weebs.
There were scripts written and widely distributed within hours of r/place coming to life.
Are you joking dude? Like, by the second day, the majority of pixels were being edited by macro code. I mean, personally I still consider it organic (computers are as natural as leaves, guys, we are part of nature not above it) but it was definitely bots.
rPlace exists AGAIN!
Anybody saw Osu! Logo?
Kuhekin Yup
Yes
where?
lolweeb
Kuhekin osu is gay
3:58 Sweden tries to take over Denmark. Motherf****** haha
"Ah shit, here we go again"
Greetings from Germany and r/osuplaces
This channel still exists?
i was part of the faction that was making the taskbar. it was pretty neat how we managed to keep people's work while making our own
it really was a wild ride. I was there helping the rest of /r/porterrobinson defend our kaomoji from attackers. proud to see that its there in the final piece with not a single pixel out of place!
