Actually if you slide you fingers at the right side of the hand brake under the rubber curtain you can feel two plastic latches which hold the coin holder on left side. Put a little pressure on them and the left side will pop out very easily, lift that side and then slide right side to the center. That's it! If I knew it was that simple I would have adjust it a long time ago , hehe 😋
If you open the console, pull the felt up, and pop up the bottom of the acc outlet plastic trim up you have a ton more room to use the wrenches. Great video. All the others out there tell you to take the entire center console off!
Thanks, I needed to know where the clips were in the coin holder so I didn't break one too. Mine was difficult to remove. It's actually pretty easy to pop out the mirror control by putting your finger beside the parking brake underneath. Then you can get your fingers into the hole to pop out the whole unit.
I was able to get the cover off by using a thin slotted screw driver gently prying up one corner (where the tabs are) a little (maybe less than a 1/4 inch at time). Then gently pry up the other end. Now go to the opposite side and do the same for the other two corners. You now have all four corners up you can pull the cover off. The trick of not breaking anything is to be gentle lifting the corners and working each side until if come off. You can't just pop one corner because each side is holding the cover.
I am currently doing this on my Rav4.. Do you have to loosen the top not first though? Can't you just tighten that and have it tighten the bottom one as it moves down? It's hard to move my hands in there with the 10mm wrench so I tried that and got it to now have less clicks when lifting lever.. I'm wondering if that is ok or if I have to loosen the top nut first before adjusting the bottom one
By tightening up the slack, will the emergency brake disengage? Mine just did this this morning and I am pretty sure this is the solution but still concerned about the brake still being engaged.
If the parking brake is pushed down all the way the light should turn off there's a switch that senses if the handle is pulled up or down it could be faulty. If there is something wrong with the brakes that will trigger the light also. The first thing I check is the brake fluid level. there's a sensor inside that will illuminate the brake light if it's too low.
@@mech4061 what do you mean by it takes the slack out ? Yesterday I went for my car inspection. They said my E-brake is not making my car stay still if I put the car in reverse and I need to get it fixed. Will this solution you posted might help ?
@@amck72 if your parking brake pulls up all the way and stops without you feeling it tighten up I would say it's really far out of adjustment you should only be able to pull it about halfway up. You don't want it to be too tight either because it will cause your parking brake to drag. mine started to grab at about two to three clicks after I adjusted it.
One other thing I should add is that if you never use your parking brake it's possible that it's frozen up due to rust. it is very important to use your e-brake every once in awhile to ensure that it will function when it's needed.
I am so glad i stumbled upon this video. Right before I was about to take the entire center console off. Thanks.
I'm glad it helped you out

That's good to know. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for all the tips, they really helped a lot.
Thanks to you I fixed my parking brake problem, awesome!!

This has helped this person! Thanks for making this video. I was about to take the rear wheels off.
Awesome. Glad it helped

Thanks for posting. Very helpful.
Thank you 🙏
I love your video- short and simple.
Easy to follow
I'm glad you liked it. Thank you.
... thanks a lot for posting that video, it's exactly what I was looking for. Great help. Thanks again and have a great weekend!
Remember to adjust it until it only takes six clicks to be full on.
Thank you

Does this tighten the brake up ?
This takes the slack out of the E-brake. Yes this is the adjustment to take the slack out.

@@mech4061 Thats exactly how my E-brake is performing. Ive never used it before. I bought my car literally a year ago.
Didn't work at all on my 2008 rav4!
Sounds like you have some other issue going on
I took 80% of plastics off then came here😭😭😭
Oh no! That's how it usually goes
You just broke it! This is not how it is removed
Well then, how do you properly remove the plastic tray?
