sadly with generational trauma, it's often the younger generation that get blamed for the problems that came from the older generation. and they are also the ones who are forced to break that cycle. in encanto we see abuela taking resposibility towards the end, but i feel like that rarely happens in real life. hopefully this film can make a difference for some families.
Thats what i dont get, family has problems with pedo (in the family) they did hide and forgive, and when my brother came out as gay, they took him out of house! I think that not all families is all perfect and our precious thing...
@@otohime8516same with my friend. it's genuinely so dumb. her cousin raped her and a lot of other people (one of them a 5 year old in her family) and her family refuses to believe them and ignores it, doesn't even see it as a problem, but my friend being depressed and having severe anxiety is this massive issue.
The reason Abuelo took his family (and the other villagers) out of the town was because he hoped for a better future for the children. The butterfly candle represented that hope. Abuela had her hope destroyed when she saw her husband die, and the only thing that kept her going was Abuelo's hope. But she had very little of her own, so the only thing she could do was protect the candle. She didn't cultivate the hope in her children, or in her grandchildren. Gradually, Abuelo's hope wasn't enough (depression has a tendency to win in the long run). When she had so little hope for Mirabel's gift that she forced Bruno to see the future and he didn't see something clearly and obviously good, she gave up (as the song says "your fate is sealed when the prophecy is read", and a sealed fate is the antithesis of hope). Mirabel never gave up hope. She never had a gift and so Abuela never forced her to believe the gift was the only thing of worth. Even when she decided to stop 'waiting for a miracle', she had the will (and what is will but hope manifested?) to succeed at saving her family. It wasn't until Abuela destroyed that hope as well that the final magic of the encanto was broken, and the house collapsed. But when everyone else in the family had lost their magic (the only thing of value they knew), and all their hope was gone, Mirabel still had hers. And she ignited her family's hope once again, all of them, even Abuela. And when they built the new house, all of them together, and their village as well, it was the power of Mirabel's hope that recreated the encanto of the familia Madrigal, and brought their magic back. Mirabel doesn't have a gift. She is the gift.
I love Mirabel's mom's gift. Mammas and grannies and aunties have been healing people with food for thousands of years - maybe not with literal magic, but you know what I mean.
Lin Manuel Miranda actually wrote this fire 🔥 soundtrack! He was also involved in Disney’s Moana if you haven’t seen it, and he wrote the absolute banger play Hamilton! He’s really the musical goat of our generation

Hi, I'm from Colombia the place where the movie is set in. I wanted to explain some things. We have had an internal war for years now and sadly this is still happening in some towns. And Mirabel didn't leave as weell as why all of the members wanted Abuelas aproval, is beacuse in most latin american families, family is all. Even if they are absurdly strict. Like people have mentioned already, don't be sorry for pausing the movie so much. Listening to you guys and your feelings and thoughts was great! Raphael was so on Mirabel's side with how upset he was for her and how she should get out of there 😄
The 13h Warrior is kind of a cult classic, I recommend it. Akira (Japanese, animated, 1988) is a classic, both of the English dubs are reasonably well done (and the animation, despite being 34 years old, is still considered top notch). Oh, "The Blues Brothers"! No explanation, just freakin' watch The Blues Brothers! (The original from 1980. We don't talk about "Blues Brothers 2000".)
3 things that were triggering me in this movie : One, they NEVER EVER apologize to Bruno. At the end, Abuela and his sister hugged him, ok that's cool. I don't remember well actually if he was forced to leave... But he deserved at least a "Sorry" from some of his family members. Two, I noticed very quickly that the people of Encanto NEVER EVER say "Please" or "Thank you" to Luisa !! That was well done from the writers because we could see how they were so ungrateful to her and how they only think that she's her gift and that's all. Three, it's more a positive thing. I think that Abuelo Pedro is the soul of this house. Did you see how Abuela waved her hand to say hello to Casita the 1st time ? Well, Pedro and Alma did the same thing when they first met each other.
No one told Bruno to leave. He decided to leave on his own after having the vision to protect Mirabel and perhaps himself. Ofc it doesn't excuse for being all "we dont talk about him" and such
@@GenetMJF I think the family didn’t talk about him because it was too painful, especially for pepa and julieta they lost their little brother and 1/3 of themselves basically
@@geogass Honestly the only one in the family to never talk bad about Bruno was Julietta. I have a theory that growing up she was the Isabella the Isabella and he was the Mirabelle the Mirabelle she treated him badly when they were kids and when he left she truly regretted it
The movie is about generational trauma and how it affects family when cracks in the family appear the family can fall apart like Abraham Lincoln said “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
I think Mirabel always had a gift all along. She was denied this at age five, but wasn’t able to realize it until her current age of fifteen. The moment she opened the front doors to the newly, magically rebuilt Casita, that IS her gift.
The reconciliation scene made me cry. It's great to see someone who is old, proud and made sacrifices own up to their mistakes to someone they're supposed to be respected by, to someone who they had previously blamed for the things that went wrong. I don't see older people take responsibility often, especially in family.
i love how the far right guy is so for mirabel’s well being that he wants her to run away for herself 😭 hes so ready to fight for mirabel whenever abuela was talking xd
Luisa said: Me and mirabel were talking, I am stressed and felt like I was letting everyone down and now I'm loosing my gift, things are heavy. What abuela heard: Mirabel, talk, loosing gift. "Mirabel, what did you do?"
Notice how Mirabel has flowers on her dress just the same as the candle. She has to break the family to put it back together. She got a door and it's to the whole dang house!
For Stephanie Beatriz (Mirabel) to sing “The Family Madrigal” so rapidly while pregnant is an amazing feat! 😮 This animated film also reunited her with her In the Heights costars Lin-Manuel Miranda (songwriter to both Encanto and the latter) and Olga Merediz (Abuela).
@@kenderellaaaxo I've heard that as well. Also that she didn't others let know until the recording was finished. That's what you call engagement and sacrifice.
Def should look up the English translation to dos oruguitas it enriches the movie soooo much. ALSO I haven’t seen anyone point out the motif of ‘sight’. Throughout the entire movie mirabel and abuela alma mirror each other. “Open your eyes open your eyes open your eyes” “Until I lost sight…” “I can finally see”. Sight is associated with things like truth and obviously seeing someone as they truly are -“I see me, all of me”- This whole movie centers around the theme that the family can’t see Mirabels place in the family, especially abuela, and Mirabel can’t see the true cause of abuelas suffering. I think it’s a really cool and subtle detail that I haven’t seen anyone talk about. I picked it up when I saw it in theaters and it just makes abuelas and mirabels dynamic so much more complex and beautiful. ALSO, I don’t know if this is a coincidence or not but if you shorten Mirabels name, you get ‘Mira’ from the verb ‘Mirar’ which means ‘to look’ in Spanish and Abuelas name, Alma, means ‘Soul’ so it’s quite literally like the phrase the eyes are the window to the soul.
My surprise when I found out everyone's age. Isabella is apparently 20. Isabella is 20 and Abuela said that she was 'out of control' as if she's a 4 year old child. Bruno and his two siblings are 50. 50!!!!!! My guess would've been 30 or something! Also I realized that Bruno left because everyone, especially his mother would only assume the worst about Mirabel. Mirabel would become Bruno by passing down the pain. He would probably cave in and spill the news if he didn't leave.
The soundtrack was written and produced by the same man that did the soundtracks for Moana & the Broadway play “Hamilton” (both are on Disney+). His name is Lin Manuel Miranda.
Lin Manuel Miranda also wrote the songs in the Netflix movie "Vivo", he is also the voice actor of the protagonist! You will probably also love the songs of that movie :)
Fun fact- Mirabel means wondrous.. and she really is. This is one of my favorite movies hands down! I love that there’s so many different dynamics, and each character has their own thing going on and their own struggles that people can relate to just like in real life. At first you dislike Isabella and then you realize she’s been trapped in this role that she has the live up to with no room for error doing things that she doesn’t even want to do for the sake of the family, which is likely why she had resentment towards Mirabel for being able to be “free”.. her pressure for perfection was even limiting her powers and potential and affecting her ability to make things other than perfect little flowers.. that’s how you know that it was really weighing her down. Surface Pressure was definitely my favorite song when I first watched this movie and even though it’s a total bop, it broke my heart for Louisa. Pepa couldn’t have a bad day without ruining everybody’s environment. And poor Dolores just never got any peace of mind for her own thoughts.. I think she just learned to keep all secrets to herself because she knows way too many peoples secrets. Although she did admit in the song, “we don’t talk about Bruno”, that she hears him muttering and mumbling.. And as good Dolores was at keeping secrets, I think she blurted out Mirables secret at their dinner because she low key didn’t want Isabella’s and ole dudes engagement to work out (can’t remember his name lol) Ive heard this a lot but I definitely think the house and candle were Abuelos spirit.. And Mirabel is definitely the next matriarch.. she may not have a whole magic room, like Abuela doesn’t, but she still holds everything together and that’s why shes the front door.. I have empathy for Abuela, even though I recognize she was putting too much pressure on everyone. She endured so much trauma. She witnesses her husbands death for starters.. and then had to pick up and get it together instantly to raise TRIPLETS, which is no easy feat, and simultaneously help the whole village and navigating it all on her own originally..
Love your guy's reactions always. Really appreciate how you pause to talk about things and it's very meaningful conversations as well. Shows how actively listeners you are!

Fun fact Mirabel is voices by Stephanie Beatriz, who’s best known for her role as Rosa Diaz in B99. Most people think her deep voice is her normal one but in reality it’s Mirabel’s voice which her real one
Thanks for the reaction as always guys, u know I appreciate it! This movie was one I actually wasn’t going to watch, but I decided I had to when I saw all the positive reviews. Glad I did, it’s a great movie! Excited to see u guys are going to go on a movie marathon, I’m definitely hyped for that. Don’t have any particular suggestions, I’ll watch basically anything u guys put out, can’t wait!
I agree with Raphael about making Encanto a series. Especially when Abuela and Mirabel reconcile, it felt like it happened too fast. Having it s as a series would make Abuela’s turnaround more believable.
Kung fu panda trilogy and How to train your dragon trilogy are always really enjoyable. Also The Lion King and The Lion king 2 if ya’ll haven’t seen those.
I enjoyed your reaction very much. You'll want to watch the movie at least one more time, to catch all the subtleties of the story and characters. Best animation, ever, in my opinion. The facial expressions and body-language, the SKIRTS! The music, for sure, the best ever Disney musical.
The voice actor of Mirabel was supposedly in labor when singing "waiting on a miracle" not sure if this is 100% true, but it was mentioned somewhere on the internet

The songs were by Lin Manuel Miranda of "Hamilton" fame - you could watch that one, too, if you haven't yet, but copyright might be a bitch with the songs (much as it was with this one, I expect) edit: 69th comment - nice.
I would LOVE for you guys to react to Hamilton the musical some time if y' all havent seen it!! The music is by the same guy that did Encanto. It's about the American History but brought in different types of rap and r&b music. I think you'd absolutely love it

And as good Dolores was at keeping secrets, I think she blurted out Mirables secret at their dinner because she low key didn’t want Isabella’s and ole dudes engagement to work out (can’t remember his name lol)
Ive heard this a lot but I definitely think the house and candle were Abuelos spirit..
Mirabel did get a gift she just touched the wrong door
Love your guy's reactions always. Really appreciate how you pause to talk about things and it's very meaningful conversations as well. Shows how actively listeners you are!
You guys are amazing! This one of the best reactions I've seen, and I've watched a LOT for this movie. 😂
It's the Nigerian ehnnnn for me... This reaction had me wheezing 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
I think you would love "In the Heights".
We’ve heard about it before actually
I hate when other reactors don't pause it when they talk... I love watching reaction videos because I like hearing people's take but it's painful when they miss the movie cuz they are talking. So thank you for pausing!!
Loved your reaction, pause as much as you need to discuss your thoughts and opinions. You actually caught something that I never noticed. At the end with the MM on the doorknob, I never associated it with Mirabel Madrigal, I thought it was just a super fancy M
Thanks for this 👊🏾
I love watching people's reaction to "Surface Pressure" especially when the beat drops @19:28 🔥🔥
Songs are fire fr.
I love baby on the right he's so hurt for Mirabel! I was too
BEST REACTION EVER!!!
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
This reaction was literally hilarious lmao loved it
i dont know which one of you i am more in love with! Such a great reaction, ya'll seem like genuine guys:) Also, animation is a medium- it can be enjoyed by adults too- after all adults make it!
Thanks for this 👋🏾
Fun fact Mirabel is voices by Stephanie Beatriz, who’s best known for her role as Rosa Diaz in B99. Most people think her deep voice is her normal one but in reality it’s Mirabel’s voice which her real one
I don’t care what anyone says, Raph is very SMART! 👍🏽👍🏽❤️❤️
6:12 "This particularly rapid unintelligible patter isn't generally heard and if it is it doesn't matter!"
Bro this part had me so much 11:59🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣the smack
🤣🤣
We must protect all of you at all costs😩♥️🙌
Thanks for the reaction as always guys, u know I appreciate it! This movie was one I actually wasn’t going to watch, but I decided I had to when I saw all the positive reviews. Glad I did, it’s a great movie! Excited to see u guys are going to go on a movie marathon, I’m definitely hyped for that. Don’t have any particular suggestions, I’ll watch basically anything u guys put out, can’t wait!
If you guys haven't seen The Incredibles yet...it's definitely a great movie to react to!
We will look into it 😊
This was an AMAZING reaction!! I love this movie and yall were great and hilarious lol!!
Thank you 🥺
I agree with Raphael about making Encanto a series. Especially when Abuela and Mirabel reconcile, it felt like it happened too fast. Having it s as a series would make Abuela’s turnaround more believable.
Watched this movie with my kids; now "Surface Pressure" is on my workout playlist.
This Texas girl loved y'alls reaction! 😂 Great job guys it was funny and honest! Always a great combination
Lin Manuel Miranda made the songs, you guys should watch Hamilton the Broadway show its so good, and it was written by the same Lin as well.
Subscribed! you guys have a great energy.
🤝
Kung fu panda trilogy and How to train your dragon trilogy are always really enjoyable.
Also The Lion King and The Lion king 2 if ya’ll haven’t seen those.
Surface Pressure quickly became my favorite Encanto song and your guys' reactions to it was awesome!
How to train your Dragon is one of the best animatied movie trilogys out there if yall haven't watched it already its amazing
This is one of the best reaction channels I've seen, you guys are hella fun lol 👌
Thank youuu 🙌🏿🙌🏿
@@AkinReacts keep up them great videos 😎👌
Fun fact: Encanto InEspanol means Spell
the Music was by lin-manuel miranda, he's the writer of hamilton
The power is based on ya personality, but once ya get it ya stuck with it lol.
Interesting
28:30 I fell outta my seat dkm😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣
I love the transition from the door to encanto
This is the first full video I’ve seen on this channel and I must say… I love it! Will definitely check out more
I love your reactions, and how yall pause and discuss. Also I highly recommend yall do other DreamWorks movies or even older disney ones 🥰🥰
We don't talk about bruno is my fav from this movie
Y'all had me cracking up down here in Georgia. Loved it! Look forward to watching more of your reactions!
My favorite song is surface pressure
I Love this movie 😆so cool you guys reacted to it and the music ,SUPER FUNNY 😁
I enjoyed your reaction very much. You'll want to watch the movie at least one more time, to catch all the subtleties of the story and characters. Best animation, ever, in my opinion. The facial expressions and body-language, the SKIRTS! The music, for sure, the best ever Disney musical.
The voice actor of Mirabel was supposedly in labor when singing "waiting on a miracle" not sure if this is 100% true, but it was mentioned somewhere on the internet
Loved your reaction, funny 😄
Thank you 🙌🏾
OMG I randomly came across this and as soon as I heard the 'big eyes' comment I literally lol and subscribed. I don't really watch anime so I hope you guys do more movies soon. I usually have to watch multiple vids to subscribe, with you guys I was hooked within the first 5 min. Ya'll are hilariously dope af. Keep it up!
You came at the right time… we will be starting movie Monday from next week, hope you like it 😁
The songs were by Lin Manuel Miranda of "Hamilton" fame - you could watch that one, too, if you haven't yet, but copyright might be a bitch with the songs (much as it was with this one, I expect)
edit: 69th comment - nice.
I would LOVE for you guys to react to Hamilton the musical some time if y' all havent seen it!! The music is by the same guy that did Encanto. It's about the American History but brought in different types of rap and r&b music. I think you'd absolutely love it
