You can see how the mother is picking at rapunzels insecurities in that one song in the beginning of the movie. I think it's her manipulative way of making rapunzel question herself and stay home

Rapunzel isn't bipolar btw, Mother Gothel had been gaslighting her for 18 years to where being her own person and going against her made Rapunzel scared of doing so, since that's how abuse works, it messed her up psychologically, along with the added fact that she barely knew her parents at all outside of when she saw them as an early baby, which Gothel took advantage of. She doesn't know what's the right or wrong thing to do at first or what is a lie or not. it takes her remembering where she came from to finally stand up for herself and get the agency she deserved.
Once she saw the real world with Eugene, she was allowed to be her own person that she was never allowed to be, she was allowed to meet people, she was allowed to be in love, she was allowed to be a PERSON instead of a property. It goes to show how much you can do without your abuser hovering around to control you and it showed how restricted she was with Gothel around. She is an adult by the time of the movie's plot and yet was never allowed to actually BE one until then.
It's honestly a really good story about overcoming abuse, and I love Rapunzel and Eugene a lot, they don't even know eachother for too long but they are genuinely one of the most wholesome Disney couples. :D

yup! Thank you! Plus, bipolar episodes aren't that fast. Typically mania and depression last for weeks/months on end. Gaslighting is INTENSE and this movie captures what it's *actually* like, not the way people use it on twitter or whatever. I went through a very similar sequence when I left my gaslighters, the rapid happy/sad/angry/guilty/etc, so Rapunzel's reaction was pretty realistic and well-written
@@HyperfixationStationI know the feeling all too well. My dad used to do this. One moment he'd be unreasonably angry for a minor thing and then all of the sudden be unreasonably and uncharacteristically understanding over something any kid would've been punished at 😅
Never knew what he was thinking or what he was going to do next. He messed me up so much that every time my anxiety got too bad I felt the need to hurt myself and punish myself for the thing that I'd done wrong in his eyes - thus redirecting the anxiety... His overly critical voice still lives in my head, but luckily it has gotten quieter throughout the years
Her tears have power because the magic is still in her -- it was being expressed through her hair before, but now it has a new way to come out to the world.
And now it will be used for people who deserve it! Rapunzel won’t cry for people who abuse her ever again.
I think the fact that she’s never cried before could also have something to do with it

Eugene says "If you do this then you will die" because he knows that promises are sacred to Rapunzel. In the beginning of the movie she told him "When I make a promise I never ever break it." So if she heals Eugene, she will have to stay with Gothel forever, just like she promised. That would be like death. That is why Eugene had to cut her hair off.
Yessssss! And some people complain, possibly critics who despise this masterpiece, that when Eugene cuts Rapunzel's hair right under her ears, they're like, " Did he have to REALLY cut it THAT short?! No, he did not!" Bro, get over it! ( the complainers) He did it to save her life!!

I don't think it's plot armour for her to heal him with her tears tbh, like it made sense that the gift of the flower doesn't just disappear from her when her hair is cut? Like it was literally dissolved and I guess poured into her it's a part of her and her hair was just one way it was expressed

I think a good analogy to go with it is, well, you know how whatever you eat and drink technically nourishes a baby too? Like people tell others that are pregnant to not drink alcohol or smoke while pregnant because it affects the baby too.
The magic flower is just similar to that. Because the mother drank it while pregnant, it affected Rapunzel as well, allowing her to gain its healing properties because it is literally a part of her, kinda ingrained into her DNA IG? But yeah. something similar to that.
Eugene honestly was dead in that moment. Rapunzels tears made him come back to life.
It gets me every time, especially considering the fact that he didn't even sense something was wrong til that bitch STABBED my boy!!!!😱😱😱😱😱😱😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 if anyone went through that, I'm deeply sorry
But we all knew it because he said it in the beginning - it took me a while to catch that right at the Introduction of the movie - i still was sad!
I love that despite his initial desire to get rid of Raps, Eugene still protects her from the ruffians by putting her behind him.

In the original fairytale, Rapunzel's father steals vegetables from the witch’s garden for his pregnant wife, who is desperately craving them. However, he is caught one night, and they make a deal that they will give their baby to her in exchange for the vegetables. Rapunzel grows up in the tower and is heard singing one day by a Prince who comes by and asks her to let down her hair so he can go up and meet her. They fall in love and agree to marry (in one version she gets pregnant). Either way, the witch finds out that she's been meeting him and tricks him into climbing up the tower just like Mother Gothel did. She then pushes him out the window where he lands in thorny bushes and is blinded. The witch then casts Rapunzel out into the wilderness, where she and the Prince are eventually reunited and her tears restore his sight.
PS To answer Raph's question, adding blood to the dagger would have changed the rating to PG-13😂

That would've been cool, but would have maybe scare little so bad, and Frollo's Hellfire was what almost gave HOND a PG-13 rating considering Esmeralda was originally supposed to be almost naked in that song in the fireplace. I'm actually quite bummed they didn't the blood on the dagger! That would've been cool!!
I really wish we'd gotten to see what the "darker version" would've looked like. The concept art was amazing!
You're right about that. Instead of him seeing Rapunzel tied up and gagged then getting stabbed right after, the filmmakers considered actually blinding Eugene, that when he reaches the tower, he doesn't see Rapunzel but only Gothel, who tells him Rapunzel's dead and he would jump out the window into a bush which would've scratched his eyes. Maybe they scrapped that idea because they didn't want to explain what happened to our heroine, so we got the ending that made us bawl our eyes out as kids and branded Gothel as the most disturbing villain (female villain) ever, same shit like Frollo: Eugene's jumpscare stab attack (cause he didn't expect that) and Death💀💀💀💀💀💀😭😭😭😭😭😭

What I like the most is that three tough-looking guys watch these movies without fear of what others think. Self-confident people.
There are a lot more male reactors lately reacting to Disney movies, including Princess movies, and really enjoying them. I really do think Disney can be for all ages and genders, and that’s what I consider to be the “magic” that Disney is known for.

I believe the reason why Gothel suspected Rapunzel was gone, was because she recognized Maximus as a royal guard steed, and since his rider was missing, she feared that the castle guards discovered the tower and found Rapunzel.
Also, the tear thing is actually from the original story, where the prince is knocked into a thorny bush that scratches his eyes and blinds him. But when he and Rapunzel reunite, she weeps with joy and her tears heal the prince's eyes.
Imagine how many lives Rapunzel could have saved growing up in the kingdom if the witch hadn't been selfish and hoarded it for herself by literally stealing her and locking her in the tower.
Alternately, imagine how much trouble would have come of people trying to take advantage of that, or steal her away in the same way Gothel did.

Man I always love your guys' reactions!! Love to see you guys experiencing these awesome animated movies, the visuals are beautiful, the music is boppin', and I think the messages they portray often times are very interesting and many people can even relate to them which make them even more cool :D
Mother Gothel's gaslighting is well done imo, because it's subtle enough to dismiss and stuff but I like that you guys instantly get a bad vibe from it from the beginning (excluding the obvious fact that the audience knows she's not a good lady for, y'know, kidnapping a baby and using her powers for herself LMAO). And that's really what gaslighting is - slowly making someone doubt themselves over time to control them for the abuser's gain.
This is sorta my though process towards gaslighting in a more literal sense: People wouldn't notice a gas leak in the beginning, you can't smell or see or hear it. But by the time it's recognized, the gas has reached dangerous levels, you've been breathing it in for who knows how long and it's taken root because of the prolonged exposure. It's poisoned you, your system has unfortunately absorbed it by the time you realize what's happened, and it will take lots of time and treatment (in this case medical lol, in psychological cases, mental help) to rid yourself of the effects.
Alternatively, say someone hasn't realized the gas leak until they've lit a match; they've figured it out perhaps that very moment - but it would be too late, the excess amount of nasty stuff blows up in their face. (in this literal example)

Heyy I just found your channel, your reaction was great! You guys are hilarious. And a bit of context to why the tear healed him: This is actually a reference to the original fairytale Rapunzel by the brothers Grimm. At the end of the story Rapunzel heals the prince with tears. So this is where its coming from here. Tangled is way different from the fairytale, but here and there you can see some references.
I'm German so I grew up with fairytales and sometimes I'm surprised people don't know about them lol
If you guys payed attention to mother Gothel, you can see that anytime she shows affection to Rapunzel or tells her she loves her, she is always talking to her hair and kissing her hair. She never really loved Rapunzel, she only loved Rapunzel's hair and she just wanted the power in her hair for herself.

There’s an animated series called Tangled the Series (also called Rapunzels Tangled Adventure) whic a direct continuation of the movie! It shows what happens in the time between the movie and when Rapunzel and Eugene get married, and give a whole new level of character depth for every character! Idk highly recommend watching it if you liked the movie
And gets downright dark multiple times.

This movie had a big influence on my name lol. It's great watching people react to it, this movie helped me realize how abusive my family is when I was a kid. It took me years to finally escape them for good. I remember how jarring it was for the people in the theater, how mother gothel manipulated rapunzel, hiding behind a motherly facade but tearing rapunzel down with everything she says, but it wasn't jarring to me, it was familiar, it was exactly how my step mom acted. I started standing up to her and after her and my dad divorced years later I realized that she wasn't the only issue, my family had allowed that abuse my whole life because they were just as abusive. This movie had a great influence on me as well as the series that follows. Now I'm almost 23 and I'm safe and I still treasure this movie greatly. Rapunzel is my favorite Disney princess and although I personally disagree with you rating it a 7 lol it was great seeing how hyped yall got for some moments!
If anyone wants an entertaining watered down introduction to the family drama I was born into, my parents were on Jerry Springer a couple years before i was born lol

This is one of my favorite animated movies, I'm glad you liked it😊. I would like to see you also react to Treasure Planet, which is another one of my favorites.
To be fair to Disney, the tear thing wasn't their idea, it's in the original fairytale or at least the version I grew up with. It's actually too adult for most kids because the Prince doesn't free Rapunzel, he just """visits""" her so often she becomes pregnant which tips the Witch off that someone else has gained entry to the tower. The Witch throws him into a thorn bush which damages his eyes but when he and Rapunzel are eventually reunited she cries and her tears restore his sight. Once you've gotten through all the Disney Princess movies, I highly recommend you watch the filmed on-stage version of Into The Woods. It's a very funny mashup/retelling of the well-known Grimm Fairy Tales and it's also hilarious! It's also like a satirical musical sitcom in some moments and it directly points out how much fairy tales don't make sense and how brutal they get to drive home lessons for children.

51:26 Yeah... I would love to see the blood on the knife but of course, there's kids watching and even on IMDb says that the blood on the knife would likely be reason to increase the MPAA rating to PG-13.
For your question at the end. I think destroying the flower would be the best solution. I don't know if I would do that if I actually had a magical flower, but it is the only solution that could prevent it from getting into the wrong hands.
I mean sure, a lot of people could benefit from it, but I suspect that eventually someone with bad intentions (like mother Gothel) would get it.
So, magic like that is too powerful for humanity.
I do t if you have ever watched princess diaries, if you haven’t…definitely recommend 😊and the person who plays Anne Hathaway bully in that film is Mandy Moore who does the voice of rapunzel
