It’s a tragedy there hasn’t been a "Roast of Conan O’Brien", it can still be done btw… Bill Burr, Kevin Nealon, Dana Carvey, David Spade, Adam Sandler, Robert Smigel, David Letterman etc… an iconic night in TV history.
To add to the list, Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, Ice Cube, Sona, Jordan Schlansky, Jack McBrayer, Aubrey Plaza, etc.
And jay leno
@@lickitysplit3575 Aubrey Plaza… that would be insane!! Jordan Schlansky bombing while as Conan cries with laughter. I’d love to see it!!
They gotta have Jay Leno there
More names I've thought up since the last add on: Seth Rogen, Bill Hader, Timothy Olyphant, Nikki Glaser, and Martin Short.... Can you imagine?
Gilbert was awesome. Fearless for comedy. His podcast is truly a treasure to anyone who loves old time show business.
I miss Gilbert. I got a Cameo message from him on my birthday. My favorite birthday present ever
You lucky dog! That would be a treasured possession for sure.
Every little kid from the early 2000 down to the mid 1980s knew Gilbert Godfrey maybe not by name but his voice from all of his voice work and that’s something special that a comedian like that actual made so many kids laugh with his voice something to think about
"You fool!" on Hollywood Squares 😂
God I love these stories about Gilbert and Norm. I could listen to them for hours.
I worked on a show that Gilbert guest starred on (Son of the Beach). Yeah, the difference between "on" and "off" was amazing. Such a nice, unassuming human being off stage. Not only didn't *have* to be the center of attention, it was almost like he didn't *want* to be the center of attention. Very humble.
It's nice to hear about celebrities that are also decent people. The respect goes way up (and I already loved Gilbert)... :)
His upbringing itself seemed very humble, I love how he was pretty much a frugal guy that shopped at a dollar store,
I loved Gilbert so much. I've already been to his grave site. All my troubles went away whenever I click on a Gilbert youtube video. I'll miss him forever.
@Nmc norm was also great
For me, the funniest person in the Roast is usually Gottfried. He's routine can make one roll over and buckled with laughter. Salute to the Roastmaster Ross for his tribute to the Gottfried.
Gilbert rarely missed. Legend.
Always liked Jeffery Ross, but I have a new found respect for him as I have dived into the roasts and see what an important transitional comedian he is. The Conan clips are great.
In 2017, I also got new respect for Jeff Ross: I went to see Chris Rock live and Jeff was one of the 3 openers. Chris was great as always, but Jeff got the biggest laughs of the whole evening when he roasted volunteers from the crowd on stage. It was truly amazing to see his improvisational skills in coming up with such great jokes, unprepared in the moment, about random strangers.
He seems like a legit nice guy.
It's terrible how many funny people we've lost in the last year and a half. Norm MacDonald, Betty White, Bob Saget, Sean Lock, Gilbert Gottfried. We need to start wrapping the remaining comedians and comedy icons in bubble wrap.
and Louie Anderson!
and trevor moore :(
@@masterninjahh Lol sadly he's always the one to end up in the replies of someone who forgot to mention him. 😂😩
It makes me both devastated that Sean Lock is on that list, and so happy to see that he's gotten some fame across the pond.
...and Jak Knight and Teddy Ray... 🕊
Norm and Gilbert are in my Mount Rushmore and both gone rip
Gilbert "Dice" Gottfried on Howard's legendary Channel 9 show was one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life. It's rare to ever witness something that is literally "side splitting"
in comedy, but this was. I've ended up falling off of my chair while trying to catch my breath at the same time watching that clip. It was the closest I've ever come to "die laughing".
I watch the same clip about once a month when I want to watch the best in comedy.
@@victorblock3421 The whole bit was just off the rails from the start when he comes out and starts insulting Robin. And that ridiculously oversized "studded" leather jacket, forget about it, while incessantly puffing on a fake cigarette yelling "Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" every five seconds! Have to give Howard some of the credit for that too, the "setup" and the whole out of control vibe of the show allowed it to happen.
@@jaykay6387 It's too bad Stern abandoned Gilbert the past 10 years, but it gave him cred with that douche Seinfeld so now Hollywood Howie is allowed to talk with Seinfeld.
"....how can i reciprocate?" lmaoo
"We buried him in a sound proof coffin just in case".
🙌
Great clip, Jeff has been killing it on this cast
Is there a comedian who doesn't like Jeff Ross? He's a kind soul. It's probably the reason no one takes offense to his roasts.
he should have a podcast too
As a kid, I found Gilbert through him voicing characters in "Cyberchase" and "Aladdin". He was even in an episode of "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" Then I grew up to love his comedy and I even enjoyed him on "Celebrity Apprentice". He was definitely one of a kind, such a distinctive voice.
I had no idea that the world had lost Gilbert. 💔 Thanks for posting this. Conan does a very good impression of him.
its weird seeing this side of Jeff ross like we're all used to his roasting persona its strange seeing him be thoughtful and sincere about stuff
Really like him so much.
It still makes me sad that Howard Stern's tribute to him was basically, "Gilbert would've been a star if he'd listened to me." The most popular guest on Stern's show to this day and Howard had to make it all about him. When Stern dies, people are going to talk about his turn and how much he alienated his non-celebrity friends.
the day Stern lost me was when Norm MacDonald was trying to tell story about meeting Johnny Carson & Howard just moved on with his chatter smh oh well #howardstern was legendary man of the people trailblazer fartman 😎🙏
First of all, I’m not so sure that he is the most popular guest ever. Most popular with a specific demographic of Stern fan, maybe. The kind who LOVE and miss the casual racism of the old show. The old callers from 90s episodes who will call up just to say the N word. Guys exactly like Sal. Some person on RUclips has been archiving Gilbert’s Stern appearances, and they are horrifyingly racist. Consistently. It seems to be the only thing that really makes Gilbert laugh. I guess that’s the bit? It’s hilarious that he never worked or updated his act because he can just do the Uncle Remus voice when someone mentions Obama. Howard kept Gilbert off the show in the later years because he would have gotten both of them cancelled. If the right person heard and retweeted some of the old Gilbert shows today they could get Howard yanked off Sirius.
@@DABA2024 I agree that many (most?) of Gilbert's Stern appearances were just annoying. But Gilbert's also had me rolling harder than anybody on quite a few occasions, so I have to forgive him. I think he's got me more than anybody except Norm. And comedians who make me laugh are a rarity.
@@DABA2024 Are you seriously saying that Sirius/XM would pay Stern hundreds of millions of dollars to be on their network and then say, "Hey, remember that thing that made you such a success that we're paying you this freakish amount of money? We need you to stop doing that. It might hurt somebody's feelings."?
It's well known that Stern channged under Marcie Turk's influence, spurred on by the cult of "Getting Things Done". He stopped having a lot of great comedians on, replacing them with safe A-listers like Seinfeld.
@@DABA2024 are your feelings hurt?
The Gilbert podcast with Norm was just the best.
nice to hear the down-to-earth Jeff Ross just as a regular guy. still could bring a zing into the conversation but was not bent on doing his act here. really really cool. talented talented cat
I have never seen Jeff Ross this somber in my life. Respect to him tho for keeping it real
💯💯💯
He respects the titans of comedy
These tributes are heartwarming and hilarious
We need that humor now a days. RIP Gilbert. And Ross with that banger. Gottfried would’ve appreciated that one. 🎩
When Gilbert first started out, I always thought he was doing a Detective Columbo impersonation😅
Oof - yes his stage persona was so different. I saw him in a small club in the 80s and his set was SO outrageous and hysterical. Then after the show he was sort of mulling around and not only were his eyes fully open, but he was - yes! - quite shy! Just a great guy. and sorely missed. RIP Gilbert
"Not so funny now." LOL 😆
Conan's reenactment of his "No, no, sit down.." bit had me in tears.
Whenever people mention the passing of Bob Saget, Norm MacDonald, and Gilbert Gottfried, they always neglect to mention Louie Anderson.
That's because the first three were part of the same circle of non-PC comedians, the one with Jeff Ross and Artie Lange, and Louie was a different kind of comic, and a clean one. Louie was on Saget's podcast, but other than that I don't know what connection he has with them.
Louie was brilliant.
Louis Anderson's first time on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson he killed it because he was funny.
@@GHOSTbirdnatureLOVER Also the first three are funny.
A sad macabre joke I love it.
I mainly knew Gilbert Godfried as Iago in Aladdin. No matter what he did I always found him heartwarming bc of that childhood memory. Now two important pieces of that movie are gone: Genie (Robin Williams) and Iago (GG). May both comedians Rest In Peace
"LET'S TALK ABOUT JOAN RIVER'S VAGAINA!" -- GG on the CC Roast of Joan Rivers -- That bit always gets me
I'll always remember seeing Gilbert on USA's "Up all Night". Good Times
It feels like a conspiracy because it doesn't feel like there is anyone new to fill the voids
You know Gilbert laughed and approved of that joke. I tip my hat Jeff
Man... '21 and '22 are two maliciously effed up years already. Having us say our goodbyes to two of the greatest comedians of all times; both of them couldn't give a flying f*ck of what other people would think - each one of them in his own way and signature move. They will be missed... Nah, what the heck, I am doing it right now - I'm off for a short "The Aristocrats" re-visit. Gilbert was a rough one; omg AND lol 😂😂😂
Why do people always think that (a) comedians don't "give a flying f*ck of what other people would think" and, (b) that, if true, this is a good thing? I honestly don't know anything about Gottfried but clearly Norm MacDonald and Bob Saget were emotional, empathic people who cared deeply what other people thought. Why do their so-called fans celebrate them as sociopaths? It's sick.
Also forgot about Louis Anderson.
I heard GG in a radio interview circa 1990. He was asked what his idea of the perfect woman was. He responded, She would be 3 feet tall and have a flat head…so I could rest my beer on it”.
Gilbert godfried and betty white were the only ones that made me sad,gil because i never saw it coming and betty because i was really rooting for her to get to 100 but the then god had to play one of his sick jokes
Ross is the absolute best roast master!! Gilbert was an American icon
I still haven't gotten over the death of Greg Giraldo let alone Sean Locke, GIlbert, and Norm
Norm went and Sagat was so sad about it on his podcast. Then he went a month or so later. 😢
Gilbert's appearance on Norms youtube show was a blast, including some Hitler necrophilia.
RIP Gilbert. I never got the Cameo I wanted to.... I so wanted to have him insult my dead grandmother. Love you, Gilbert!
Gilbert was a comedians comedian 💙
Man i wish i had friends like this
💯
"It almost feels like a conspiracy.......where were you on those nights Jeff?"
When Jeff Ross acts serious is the funniest thing I see him do
Conan's Gilbert impression sounds like Peter Falk.
2:12 I love how she covers her eves when Jeff says skull f***ing
Gil, Norm & Bob. Three unequivocal geniuses walk into a bar....
Gilbert Got fried lived on a BEAUTIFUL apartment on central Park... With a beautiful wife and gorgeous daughters. Such a lovely hilarious guy!!
Lol most of these comments have nothing to do with Gilbert, and this video is the least watched with Jeff Ross, I'm surprised, because I always liked him! One of those people who had been in your life from the beginning.
This is a tragic time for comedy. Gilbert and Norm are the two I have in my downloads so I can listen at work.
2:55 Gilbert would have loved that joke, and Jeff Ross knew it. Rip legend!
I remember Hugh Hefner's roast and Gilbert Gottfried says, "Ice T stole my lines" and he repeated everything Ice T said and got bigger laughs.
That was great. Watched it many times.
I loved when Gilbert and Artie got together. It was never PC.
The funniest ever.
The grim reaper ruined everything but Gilbert was the best
Gilbert won me over watching him host Up All Night. I didn't watch the movies, just Gilbert.
same here
Gilbert would have laughed his ass off at the 'not so funny now' joke.
ROSS NEEDS TO FOLLOW THEM
The word conspiracy has left my mouth over this too!
“for the chance”
Loved Gilbert. Rip.
I still can't believe the man who created the worlds dirtiest joke is gone the Aristocrats!
Love you, Conan!
I'll bet Gilbert and Norm are up in heavan chasing Queen Elizabeth around trying to force her to hear their dirty jokes.
Problem child is a franchise that will be remade.
if you havent seen gilberts stand up from the 80s youre missing out.
I was criminally unaware of Gilbert for a long time, despite being a child of the 80's. I literally mixed him up with booger and buster poindexter......then I found Penn's Sunday school podcast. I have listened to the Gilbert heavy episodes a hundred times
no i didn’t cry when jeff said he took gilbert’s kid to the billy crystal play…. you did !! 🥲
The George Takei roast is still up on RUclips and is still far and away the best roast of all time. Gilbert could always be counted on to say the most inappropriate thing at precisely the wrong time after any sort of a disaster. Thank God for that. RIP, Gilbert...nobody misses you.
Comedy has never been safe with Gilbert- I think that’s why Richard Pryor loved him so much.
Ironic the guy that hosted America’s funniest videos died from a fall. Jeff Ross is a genius.

Dude I didn’t even know Gilbert passed where the f have I been god bless he and his family another great gone too soon. I also haven’t noticed or seen Conan has a podcast that’s great I love Conan’s dumbass talking to other people I like
Let's not forget Louie Anderson.
He was the comedians comedian . Finest
I hope Jeff knows he's as important to comedy and comedy fans as any of the people mentioned in this clip
HELLO Louie Anderson!! RIP to all those who made us and will always make us laugh
best night show in america ,better than jimmy and steven....not too muc unpolitical and one sided person..love it
Celebrity deaths always come in 3s. and I have been warning people that the 2020s will take many of our icons, heroes and elders if we dont take better care and appreciate them more. More rockstars that were big during the hippie era and that are now in their 70s and 80s or older, actors, those hollywood celebrity greats from film and tv that are pushing retirement age...The queen of England too...this is already gonna be a very rough decade for many around the world, and we have rememebr that nothing lasts. So hug your elders and spend time with them. Laugh and be well yall. Enjoy your lives well and happily as best you can. Thats the real joy and value of living. ^~^
I think guys like Conan and Jeff are custodians of passing the old school comedy torch. Especially now that comedy has been taking hits from the woke crowds. That said, anyone else crushing on Sona? She's damn cute :)
His roasts were amazing.
You forgot Anderson that first list off. Smh. He was the best.
Fantastic guest. When will see Ricky Gervais on your show?
"ROJIRA!"
Jeff Ross is slowly turning into a badger
Will the Norm memorial ever be released to the public? There are only cellphone filmed clips from the audience
They should call this Conan $300 million dollar podcast
I watched a wonderful documentary on Netflix about Gilbert. If you haven't seen it, go do that as soon as you can. RiP
When Norm died it reminded me of that national tragedy
The election?
Oh you mean the Norm show, where the stories came crashing down?

Gilbert was great with Stern
@Conesie! It's called ClotShots!
Gilbert was indeed fearless. Funny funny guy. Conan might be on to something with this conspiracy thing....
Ross seems cool af
I was just about to say "fearless" then he did
Even weirder, I scrolled across your comment just as I also thought he would say fearless (and then he did).
Gilbert told jokes that would be removed from this comment section. Just saying…
I'm not a fan of censorship in social media either because I like to have faith in people knowing how to respond to inappropriate remarks.
But it's different with comedians. They usually know how to create context and approach their topics intelligently while they know they're on the spot. On the other hand, comments in social media are sometimes just a shout in the crowd from an anonymous crazy person.
It's not comparable.
