It seems like both the people who are anti-West and anti-Putin all agree that there’s a fine line to walk to avoid WW3. Yes there’s a lot of propaganda going around that’s why I don’t bother counting bodies while the conflict is still happening. Hypothetically, Washington state erupting into chaos as their state police begin rounding up gun owners who have mags that hold more than 10 rounds. It would be post an unconstitutional federal law like banning a certain weapon from being possessed by anyone, and then it trickles down into local govts. Isolated incidents of OIS over the attempt to take those guns, then civil disobedience turns into surgical attacks by super hardcore gun advocates in small areas which cascades into the national guard being deployed like they are for riots. Then mass AWOL incidents from oath keepers in LEO and military who don’t agree with what they’re being told to do. This process repeats for every area it affects until succession occurs. The reaction from that is unimaginable so that’s typically where I stop trying to guess what could happen.
TL:DR, it’s government and law enforcement vs the certain groups of “don’t tread on me’s” that will get into a war with each other. Extremely dirty war in certain areas.

A perfect example of this is that all of the power transformers in the relay stations of the U.S. electrical grid are now made exclusively in China, and there is a three year waiting list for new ones as of two years ago. That is but only ONE of the items that China could cut off from the West. Also, it is common knowledge that North Korea has two geostationary E.M.P. satellites in orbit directly over the West and East Coasts of the U.S.A. My wife is half Russian/half Ukrainian living here in Australia, i also live here with here (obviously). Former Ranger myself and again, obviously American. The things I've seen out of the Ukraine from her family, friends, acquittances has been horrible. What the Ukrainians have done on orders from the US (mainly people like Victoria Nuland) and the atrocities they committed against ethnic-Russians in the Ukraine was terrible.
We use to get video of people getting shot at or school buses being blown up, etc. All manner of terrible shit. Yet no one spoke up in their defence, no one. Not even their fellow Ukrainians. Hell, before this thing kicked off 8 years ago, America caused a coup de ta in the Ukraine. Senators Lindsey Graham and John McCain were there congratulating them and telling them to keep going, etc.
I don't blame Russia one bit for reacting how they have. Constant aggression from Ukraine, NATO and the US towards them has finally spilled over. None of the #'s of dead Russians you've heard from the West is true. Unfortunately the # of dead Ukrainians has been growing steadily ever since this conflict. The Ukrainians managed to get the jump on the Russians early on, but it didn't take long for them to establish themselves. Obviously the Russians have taken causalities, but the main forces doing the fighting are DPR/LPR forces supported by the Russian forces deployed there and their Chechen allies.
It's a sad state affairs and another instance of America using NATO, to further create more instability and chaos around the world. Unfortunately, this one is going to blow back shit in their and Europe's face.
Thankfully my wife's family/friends are okay and not harmed, at least not physically. Some of them were right in the path of it, in the Donbass. Some of her family was down near Mariupol when it was taken. Was sent video of just scores of dead Ukrainians stacked in the streets after the battle, it was horrific man. There was supposedly 25k fighters and something like 19k were killed in the fighting.
Anyway sorry for my rant. I just see too many people siding with the Ukraine in this war and it irks me. This shit has been boiling for 8+ years, no one there is surprised that his is happening, only that it took this long.
I also disagree about the Russian military and that they thought they were going to just "roll up on in there", that's absurd comments to make. That's western media talking points right there. The Ukrainians also have been caught making videos showing them "destroying Russian tanks" but in actual fact were not Russian tanks but their own. All I'm saying is, don't be so hasty to believe everything the Ukrainians put out.

Excellent point. However, I don't think China would invade Taiwan unless the U.S. got involved in the war against Russia. It's too much of a risk for the Chinese. On the other hand, if the U.S. gets drawn in to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, it is very possible that China invades Taiwan because they know the U.S. doesn't want to fight two wars at once. Fighting in Ukraine and Taiwan would not be sustainable, especially against two members of the UNSC who are superpowers.

One note about "If one f16 gets shot down, it's WW3" is a bit hyperbolic in my view. The reason I say that is because N Korea has killed US troops that accidently crossed the border and it was just swept under the rug to avoid war at all costs.
Additionally, the Taliban has very recently killed US troops in Afghanistan and we still pulled out. The current administration's state department has even told Americans in Ukraine: "If you haven't gotten out by now, it's your own fault".
I think for NATO to get involved the Russians would have to clearly show intent to invade a NATO country, not just shoot down a plan caught in the cross fire.

Yes. Your points are as to why I think Russian forces are banking on just wearing down Ukraine. While the invasion goes on as planned, Russia’s making ties behind the scenes where our prying eyes can’t see, and this is just what is to be expected. With China is back dooring Russia with resources and economic support; i cannot see any other outcome other than a total takeover of Ukraine. Unless, like mr Glover mentioned, other American backed nato countries step in. The outcome of that, is potentially WW3. China, rolls into Taiwan while we fight a Russian front. While Ukraine is getting tenderized by Russian forces, and another authoritarian “third-world despotic dictatorship” or two, well have do our best to piece them together. And at the same time have to step in, and back up the Japanese, Philippines, all other south East Asian allied nations; against an invading Chinese military. Taiwan is certainly a target, and unfortunately the US government will most likely treat it much the same as Ukraine. We’ve stepped back from almost every world war, until the end. For good reason, I think. Although, this time; the world is looking at us like we’re the experts, and saviors of the free world, but war mongering greedy assholes, at the time. Interesting times, tbh.

I would say the same thing goes if we shot down Russian planes. But, how far east would the "no fly zone" have to go? The Russians have long range SAMS within their borders that they could use so to enforce such a no fly zone would require going into Russia to destroy those SAM sites. WWIII for sure. Yet, even still Zelenskyy and much of the west (media) pursue establishing a no fly zone. It's insanity. And what no one is talking about is the immense tactical coordination required among the NATO air forces. This takes a lot of planning, communication and discipline. And, let's not forget the Ukrainian ground forces armed with stingers and other anti-aircraft weapons. The communication with them would have to be stellar least they would shoot down our planes. The whole concept doesn't work unless we actually declare war against Russia.

@@brokenwrench404 Oliver Stone's documentary was incredibly one sided. He gives Putin and his henchmen like Yanukovuch all the air time while never interviewing the other side. Also Stone's son works for the Russian state media, so if you're expecting objectivity, you're sorely mistaken.
Not everything is a government cover up, and the media isn't always lying. Russian tanks rolled into a sovereign country, killing civilians while throwing ordinary Russians who protest against the war back home in jail. Do you know where the stories about Nazis originally came from? Putin. You're more inclined to listen to him than the American journalist who risk their lives reporting from the front lines? Really?

Thanks, and good to hear from you. History say's we fought MIGS in Korea, and Vietnam flown by axis pilots. The Russians are bringing in urban fighters from Syria. The allied munitions are all carrying identifiers of origin. I think the Russians know who provides them. Russia will not declare war against NATO but that doesn't stop them from kicking the bee's nest in provocation. Then he will sit back and say we started it. The Russians military are spread pretty thin. The Germans found out about fighting on too many fronts and what running away from your supply line is all about. History is a great teacher if anybody cares to learn about it.

The other possibility is to integrate air support using air denial assets and incorrectly marked aircraft in the western part of the country, and claiming they are Ukrainian.

There was at least a UN condemnation of Russia. Regardless the international community in general sees Russia acting in a way unfitting of a modern power. Certainly NATO will continue to hope for Putin’s ouster, and will continue to supply arms to the Ukrainian army to that end.

Seems like every single veteran on RUclips has changed his mind during the last 2-3 weeks.
First, you all started with "Oh, they're going to get wrecked by Russia..."
And now it's more like "Of course, they fight well because we thought them" lol
Just be honest for the moment and acknowledge that you underestimated Ukraine, and hugely overestimated russia. The same way MANY commentators here. As a Ukrainian Canadian, I am getting much more support and compassion from predominantly left Canada than from predominantly patriotic right-leaning American friends. Paradox!

I saw the originally footage of that “ambush” it came out sometime late February so I don’t believe it was in Kyiv, probably a smaller city since it was so early. But yeah that guy lost his life, the guy who walks up before the video ends put a few rounds in him, sadly that did not end his life and he was obviously in pain, a second guy comes from right under the camera view about 30 seconds after the first and finally ends his life. Was rough to watch but I make myself so I can see the reality of not just war but life. The russian who fell out of the side was probably under the age of 20 and again since it was so early on, there was a chance the truck had no idea where it was headed…. If it did it probably wouldn’t have ran through the 100+ shots from the trees at first (that’s what caused it’s rolling stop) it is definitely the most rough video from this war I’ve seen, mainly because of the young guy who lost his life, but because what I saw was a careless waste of life, at the hands of a mad man

Ok so the problem is this. Obviously Russia cannot stand up to the West considering the Ukrainians have stopped them in their tracks. So obviously the threat isn’t a “world war 3” but the “wmd” aspect of that. The question, then, is does Russia get to storm across the globe doing whatever it wants wherever it wants with an inferior military because we fear their wmd?

Two points…the US is really bad at extended vision warfare that extends beyond a decade…so far. That said, the entire NSA/CIA industry in the states is a legit thing. I see the occasional modern/rare weapon presented by the Chinese or similar…and while that is obviously a legit threat…it was probably copied off an existing design in Chingrish and not as good. We have basically entire states with Area 51 and skunkworks availabilities to test this stuff…unknown to anyone beyond a top secret clearance.
If Russia is as weakly prepared for this as it seems, the clearly unprepared Chinese will suffer mightily. Battle hardened is a thing.
