Best investment ever - the game rules are free online, loads of miniatures are available cheaply online, and the newest rules include some really nice new resin minis! @@derultimativenachahmer74 Historics are cheaper and one of the things that fantasy ranges often have issues with is clutter. The figures are loaded with junk, useless belts that hold nothing, clothing longer on one side, random bits of chainmail. That's what I liked about the Middle Earth fantasy battle figures when they came out, they were closely aligned to the LOTR films so the clothing and weapons made sense given that the films' prop designers put actual thought into what did what and why.
While I'm rabitting on, one of the dumbest things about the later Space Marine ranges is all the loincloths hanging down to ground level. They're over done and don't look like religious clothing, they just make the figures look clunky.

There are many ways to make "business sense". GW always always chooses the super greedy one. Unless mandated from outside license holder, there was no reason to nerf any figures. Most likely most new players would go for the new stuff that is available, but there is no need to punish old players with wast armies or people up for a big conversion challenge. As a company you could just have announced the models would no longer be in production. Its the perfect way to push the older players out, that should be the ones welcoming the new. But business never thinks like that, just we can sell more new stuff.

Agreed. Modern GW is not a good company to support, and both of their flagship games feature outdated and plainly unfun rules. There's so many great 28mm, 15mm, 6 and 8mm game systems out there, I recommend you buy the miniatures you like the most and go from there. I've got some undead japanese samurai types that form the basis of my army or warband or squad in almost every fantasy setting I play, and I'm looking at 3d printing something similar for scifi if I ever find a decent gaming group around me. For now, I mostly ogle terrain on the 3d printing websites, because that's what I really love.

You absolutely can. Best thing is to find an existing army in the system that looks like it represents what you have, then you can customise a few units if you need to. Plus the units in different armies tend to copy across pretty well anyway, so if you find something you like rules-wise in a _different_ army, you can use those rules for something in _your_ army, and it should work fine (like, for instance, using the rules for a big Alien Hives monster to represent a model in your Orc army).

I have been playing since 1986, my first 40k army was space slann, I had spent all my pocket money, and my birthday presents and Christmas for a year building it and painting it, the whole army was dropped, so I sold it for a fraction of the cost, to start up Squats, put 1000s of hours into painting that army, that army also got removed, got pretty fed up with 40k, sold my Squats and went back over to fantasy, put everything into building up a huge Kislev force, and a Chaos Dwarf army, and then those armys were scrapped, I literally had 2 models left to paint for a 4k army of Kislev. . Rage quit GW for a long while after that, then decided to get back into 40k with Black Templars, as there was the ability to swap assault marines bolt pistols for storm shields, I loved the idea of flying sword and shield space marines, so built up 30 of them as a core of a new army, sadly that option was removed, so I would have had to hack off 30 storm shields, which had cost a lot to buy from ebay, as GW didn't sell seperate storm shields, so I just sold the models in stead, I Picked up a leviathan dread, Chaplain dread and daredeo dread to fill in the gap in the army, they all went to legends. . .
Rather than buying anything else, I just sold the whole army, I picked up the recent Deathwing army set, as I figured Terminators haven't really changed since Rogue trader, hoping to get a good few years out of this army.

I feel like Legacy/Legends rules should become more accepted, even if you don't have a local gaming group aside from the local Games Workshop.
It should also be more accepted to just play with rules from an older Edition of the game, if both parties agree on it/build their list around it - because while Legends/Legacy units won't be updated by GW in any game, it's still their models, that they produced, so hardly any store keeper can prohibit you from taking them to a local game, if they're a 100% original model.
Wheras GW as a company should also do an archive of older edition rules on their website.
Heck, even if they sell it online/as a hardcover for order for a reasonable prize I also wouldn't mind, but that way they'd also prevent people from showing up with fan-edited wikis like Wahapedia for their rules on older editions. But given that buisiness doesn't always mean that something should make sense, hard to tell if they'd go that step.
That would also help to make people take Legends/Legacy unit profiles more serious, because then there's no fear that they'd be gone forever at some point.

GW's practices of marketing and supply have been awful over the last decade. The line, "Don't ask questions, just consume product and then get excited for next products" is on point. Creating artificial demand through limited supply, stopping rules support for old models, website queues, and the fear of missing out are all prominent strategies. They want you to purchase impulsively. As a group that his pigeon holed themselves into the box of a "miniature company," there is no easy way for them to combat 3d printing. Instead, they get their customer base excited and push for them spend on the next thing while quietly putting the old out to pasture.

  • @breandan3280
    @breandan3280 2 месяца назад +3

First...yes it's absolutely okay to be upset about this.
Personally I'm not happy about it myself.
I wish that GW would at least offer a "made to order" service like Reaper Miniatures does for older metal models that don't sell well. Yeah you'll have to wait a bit to get them, but you can still order them.
GW already has the molds, they're not losing money by doing this.
As for rules... that's the issue. Reaper can do this because they mostly make generic rpg minis, and they're not tied to a rule set. So there's no point in GW offering anything for sale if there's no rules, despite a lot of us just wanting these minis to paint and collect.
That said, I think the Dunland army will be okay. I wouldn't doubt if some new version of the horsemen becomes available and the old Dunland hereos could be used as generic captains and such.
It's not perfect but it's a solution that most of the other armies don't have.
Unless you're in a competitive event, I doubt anyone would care if you're using them as proxies, especially if they're GW minis.
I'm worried that my Rangers of the North army is done for, myself.

If you have experience converting, you can always turn a pile of oldhammer gems in to a unique and funky army/gang/warband.
I've been upcycling my old squats into a new playable gang (or army at this point). It holds value really well. The average 25/28,5/32mm model would sell for 50ish euro, with some rarer ones going into hundreds or multiple hundreds a pop. The entire gang/army is already worth more than my car ;)

Right? For me it was Praetorians. I had just finished watching "Zulu" in school and saw a White Dwarf with mock version of the battle using the Praetorians. I fell in love instantly and bought a squad worth. A week later they were discontinued. Took me YEARS to build what I have today. Currently it was the new codex for the Guard that squashed my army. No more conscripts, no more Pask, no more Crusaders (which I had specially made from Hero Forge). I got my Rough Riders back, but I had hammered out my army only to have it ripped away from me. On a side note, I wanted to get back into Fantasy with my old Dwarves, only they apparently don't exist anymore. Just the more more steam punk version of them, which is cool (full on Airships, I love it), just don't/can't get a new army heh.

I know this will be a controversial approach given the morally dubious nature of the practice, but seeing as GW have just squatted so much of the range... I'm just use the now outdated edition and pick up whatever else I need for these armies as recasts.

Models being removed only matters if you play competitive. If not, while it is not commonplace in the warhammer community, “Homebrew” is still perfectly acceptable if your playgroup approves.

Even with the new Kill Team.... getting rid of compendium teams? I am done with GW. Ordered a Hivestorm box and decided to return it before it even showed up. That saved me 200$... What I have now is all I'll ever own by them. I'll print or go to a different mini game. Trench Crusade is looking pretty sweet. Malifaux is amazing.

I like the fact that the first models I got in 1994 or 5 are still legal, though a bit smaller than the updated models. (an iron priest and striking scorpions) I just keep my RT dudes as their own army so I dont have an itty bitty character leading primaris or a primaris leading a squad of RT01 marines half his height.

That's why we (in my area) hold tournaments that use to OG Rouge Trader 40K rules and use 1st Ed. Warhammer Fantasy Battle. We allow any models BUT you must use the OG rules and they have been wildly successful. If it came out after 1990, then it is pretty much heresy

Remember, you don't have to use the up to date rules, old 40k rule books and the og lord of the rings rule books are cheap

11:54 Exactly this point, its so hard to get anyone I know into this game due to the sheer cost alone and time required but when they legacy on a mass scale it just feels like nothing is safe at all (even if it is)
"Hey pal heres the full range but only buy the biggest factions becasue the others might not be around much longer"
