I just received my preorder of Halo Flashpoint, but wave 2 is launching in 2025 and will bring OP and force building rules, really looking forward to this game based off Deadzone's ruleset! Also looking forward to Warcrow, Corvus Belli's new Fantasy skirmish miniatures game. Lastly, just an FYI, BattleTech's last kickstarter more than doubled the Trench Crusade amount at $7.6 million and had around 22k backers, and was the largest miniatures kickstarter, even breaking into the top 25 for gaming.
@@thewynnest thanks for the pin! Great video and I'm definitely interested in more of them. The Battletech Kickstarter is still fulfilling as international backers were delayed, so the Mercenaries expansion is kind of launching in 2025. 😁
I just learned about Deadzone from looking at KillTeam alternatives and picked up a starter set. What an amazing game it is... Deadzone is fantastic! Easy to learn; quick to play; layers of strategy and tactics. Perfect!
I started OPR a few months ago and haven't looked back. Plus I feel I am not slaved to rules and hinged on every move OPR makes. OPR content really feels like my own.
Ahh Bushido. Should have atleast been a honorable mention in the list. Been following that game for quite some tim, does look a bit complicated to me tho.
@@mythrando epic scale skirmish? You mean model wise? That would be a cute little table haha. I did see an epic scale samurai game in my feed a while back.. Not sure what it was tho.
I highly, highly recommend Relicblade. There are 2 main reasons I think it’s one of the best games out there, those being tied to what I say categorizes the average miniature game enjoyer: the painter and the gamer. For the painter, the sculpts are wonderfully posed, with just the right amount of detail to give them life without making them a chore. You don’t have to paint 30 purity seals or pouches, just the one or two bags and option bottles. It feels like every miniature’s detail deserves to be there, and the poses lend themselves to being painted with ease. No turning this way and that, no need for sub assembly. And they’re metal minis, they feel great in hand. For the gamer, the internal balance is some of the best I’ve ever seen, rules are simple on the surface, but leave lots of room for complexity when it comes to how they’re used. There are no “factions,” just good vs evil, so pick up models and throw them together. Cards and upgrades are not faction locked, but key word locked, so there’s much more room to create the warband you want to play. It’s a skirmish, often using 4 models a side, taking around 45 min once you know what you’re doing. I was sold on the game when it was told to me like this: two high level dnd parties meet and fight. Many games are objective focused, so it becomes a puzzle to solve rather than just bashing forces against each other. But you can do that as well. Again, highly recommend, especially based on what you had to say about moonstone!
@@waxcrr9378 I’ve been looking at Relicblade for so long now, but never found a community. That’s my biggest issue with the game. Everything else looks awesome. But I do think I found everything I was looking for in Moonstone.
I agree with 40K. I played for 6 months, and my army got a massive overhaul. Since they did that, I would have needed to shell out 380 dollars for 3 units to make my army useable again, so I immediately sold out.
@@thewynnest Well I come from a largely Legion background. been playing since 2021, its a lot more affordable and a better game overall I think. gonna try MESBG next. doesn't look like it suffers from the same issues as 40K.
Well, it seems you are quite the GW games fan. lol All good, we like what we like. Personally, there are only 4 that I plan on spending time with: Infinity, Blkout, Arsenal and 5 Parsecs
I guess the nostalgia factor is what gets GW on the list. And well, some great systems like Kill Team and Underworlds. But I have a feeling this next year is going to be important for them. And their attitude/practices towards the customers will matter more than ever. Arsenal I’ve never heard of. Will take a look!
I'll be playing a lot of Infinity this upcoming year. A new addition is around the corner (rules are free), the manga cyberpunk aesthetic (Ghost in the Shell/Appleseed) is great, and I love the "always your turn" philosophy behind the game.
Im looking forward to playing a lot more of A Song and Ice and Fire this coming year. Its a great game and Ive fallen off the last year and a half or so. Ive been painting Baratheons this month to get back into it. Im also looking forward to playing Relicblade more, and assembling and painting my small MoonStone collection .
Seeing Infinity being brushed out in half a second kinda hurt my feelings a bit. It’s really great. Cool mechanisms, fun game, not boring at all. And cool minis. And cool universe too. Cool video though, never heard of moonstone.
I’m sorry man, please don’t let it get to you tho. It’s just a video and I haven’t played the game yet, nor did I do much research on it at the time. Last couple of days I DID actually. Looks like fun and lovely models!
Hopefully going to get more into Battletech, Middle Earth, Star Wars Legion, Bolt Action, and Dropfleet/Dropzone Commander this year. As all of them are either something I have forces for or have caught my attention.
I'm shocked... Shocked! To not hear Malifaux on the list. I get if there's not a lot of action in your area. Theres just so many wargames, and this one is deep and gets looked over because of it. But it really deserves a look. Best mini game hands down imo. I've tried almost all on your list. I've dropped everything, Gw, for various reasons. But I still have my models for playing One Page Rules and other agnostic games. Need to try Moonstone it does look great. Trench Crusades' free rules are decent love the esthetics, but... Malifaux...
Brilliant rundown Wynn. Really enjoyed this. The Moonstone card mechanic is great. I consume an insane amount of rulesets as research while developing our game and the up and comers I'm most excited to actually play are 1490 Doom and Zeo Genesis.
Honestly a really great line up! I play Middle Earth, Legion, Armada, Infinity and getting into 40K/kill team thanks to my little brothers whose friends got him into it. Hope to get into old world some day as Total Warhammer II is my favorite game of all time.
Oathmark. Great game and an amazingly affordable miniature line for a fantasy rank and file. It does everything I always wanted out of the Oldworld, but never got.
Moonstone is absolutely one of the best if not the best miniature gaming experiences out there. I would also recommend The Drowned Earth, as well as anything by Black Site Studios, and Forbidden Psalm.
Been hearing a lot of good things about Moonstone. If it is as easy to play as you said, might pick up a starter set eventually so play with my board game pals (who are not into wargaming). My focus currently lies on getting my first Spearhead and Kill Team done so I can get into those games. Been hearing a lot of good things with both games!
Because of your video I am now also heavily invested in getting a warband and buy/build an game board for Moonstone. Am a big fan of Legion, Song Ice miniature game and Bolt Action but somehow Moonstone looks like something different, really fun and oozing with theme! I live in the Netherlands and would love to play some games in the area. Would you have advise were that is possible?
That’s awesome 👏. I can highly recommend ‘Een Kleine Wereld’. I met these guys a month ago and were playing a league of moonstone throughout 2025. It’s in Papendrecht. Where are you located?
This year I went all in on the Infinity N5 update. I haven't previously played, but the game system and the incredible community support, as well as the excellent quality of the metal miniatures pulled me in. I'm also interested in learning more about Moonstone and BlkOut. I did play some AOS spearhead the other day and I was impressed with that as being much more fun than the usual GW fare. Nonetheless, I'm very wary to get in anything else Games Workshop because of their incredibly shady and greedy business practices, and the fact that they may not support the game that you like next year after you buy a bunch of stuff this year.
With your production quality you could make some great Battletech videos and maybe capture some of that playerbase. I’ve been looking around a lot and there aren’t a lot of channels doing high quality Battletech tabletop vids.
Thank you for the compliment! It’s big mechs so that equals me being interested. But heard the ruleset is pretty complicated to get into. Would you recommend starting with ‘first strike’ first?
@@thewynnest alpha strike is a more paired down version of battletech and definitely easier to get into. But I would say the talking up of how complicated classic Battletech is a bit overstated. You just need to understand a few basics and then be fine with looking up a table or two to roll on. Battletech classic is almost a roleplaying game and it’s full of drama and incredible moments all baked into the design. Both are worth your time because they offer different things. Alpha Strike for big battles, Classic for nuanced Skirmish gameplay.
What no historicals? Saga is pretty nice to get into, you can check it the 18th at ducosim as there is a tournament there. While it is an I go you go system there is interaction in the opponents turn. And it is not as scary as historical gaming sounds. Tbh too much games workshop on the list, there is so much more out there (better and more affordable) Anyway nice vid
No historical just yet! While I am somewhat of a history nut I never got into it. Particularly interested in trying the Bolt Action system. We’ll have a whole year to try it out and probably will at some point. Thanks for the compliment!
1. Deadzone: easy to learn, quick to play, deep strategy, using Mantic and Kill Team proxy minis! 2. La Bataille de Kulm: wargame Kickstarting now 3. For King & Parliament: 15mm ECW with Steel Fist and Warlord figures 4. Blood Bowl! ... and BB Sevens 5. Nemesis 6. A Song of Ice & Fire 7. Space Hulk
What?!! Infinity needs more love, best rule system. No Bushido, Warcrow, Malifaux, the reboot of Warmachine, A song of fire and ice, Necromunda. Greetings and congratulations for your channel.
Absolutely right. That arcane deck is so much fun. I tend to ‘be honest’ and not bluff throughout the game. Then when I need it most I bluff and people believe me 😝 I’m playing a league throughout next year, so hopefully some battle reports!
7:21 I actually played a few intro games of TOW recently with a friend. Granted, we are very avid board gamers, and my friend can eat rules and spit explanations, so we probably have a leg-up on most players. But the basics are actually very simple, and playing while reading the rules "the core rules" section is more like an interactive tutorial. I think with a few refrence cards (strength vs. toughness, balistic skill equating to to-hit, weapon skill vs. weapon skill, etc.), you could probably speed up the game 10 fold.
Moonstone grabbed me and didn't let go. It is one of the best wargames I have ever played. I now own all but three of their models and it will be the only game where I have painted my entire collection of it.
First of all, congratulations because the video is of fantastic quality. We recently created a game called Z Survivors. It is an extremely difficult miniature survival game, designed to be played solo, but with the possibility of cooperative play. If you are interested in learning more, I invite you to talk and I will send it to you so you can try it.
Moonstone is also one of my most exiting to look out for games. Further it'll be Underworlds 2 (albeit, as a fanatical v1 player, this is still reluctant, I'm not sold on the new rules), Bolt Action at last (with ed 3 a good moment to step in), Spearhead and the solo games on small boards for at home playing in calm weekends: Devilry Afoot (witch hunting in the 16th century) and The Rusty Dagger (narrative fantasy rpg light gaming). And of course keep plaaying Five Leagues from the Borderlands and Rangers of Shadowdeep
Glad to see you return to Legion. Its such a good game! I love the 40k universe but just cant stomach the game and rule books. If we could get 10% of the 40k crowd into legion we'd have an even more incredible community!
Blkout has been my new go to and i love it but im really excited about trench crusade, I missed being able to back by a few days 😭 hopefully they do late backers at some point.
I have the full Warhammer Underworlds S1 and S2 (Nightvault). Did not know they are no longer 'legal'. Is there a reviced set of cards from GW for the warbands there?
Ill be playing Conquest, and working towards painted demo forces for Dragon Rampant, Xenos Rampant, and Limbo: Eternal War once thier 1.5 version delivers
@thewynnest Osprey Publishing has a lot of minis agnostic games like Dragon or Xenos Rampant where you buy the book and then use whatever minis you have to play them. They're inexpensive books also which makes them easy to try and get your gaming group to try since you probably already have all the minis and gaming components you need
@thewynnest there are reasons why existing players who are unwilling to change won't like it, specifically for the changes to list building, and "rotation" of models which are still playable in everything but official tournaments. There's some negativity around that, but for me personally I am excited for new models being introduced to the range, and tighter rules (which were already good).
@@skywalkersindar7463 yeah heard something about the (lack of) flexibility of list building in the new edition. I’m going in fresh so I think I’ll tag along for this new edition.
40K is a great and immersive setting, but the GW rules and chasing the books and editions are just not for me, after having played and collected from 4th edition until 7th came around... I still read the novels/books a bit and somewhat follow the game and lore, and I did get pretty deep into the 2018 version of Kill Team and played that until 2020 and our local store not having open tables on Saturdays anymore. I am somewhat excited to try the newest version of Kill Team. I've also started looking into just using my miniatures for games of One Page Rules. I will definitely keep collecting some minis and playing games, but they have to be somewhat simple to play, unlike current 40K, I just don't have the time and resources to play something with that kind of books to continually chase and also just don't PLAY games often enough to learn a rule set which is that involved. I may follow along with the new Middle Earth game, and also look into some of the ones you listed. Shatterpoint really had my attention because of the minis and terrain in the starter set, but looking into it a bit more, the proprietary dice and the damage tables and a few other parts of the actual game/rules just turned me away. I may still pick that set up and a few other minis just to paint and display them on a shelf. Cheers
Your comments screams Moonstone! If you’re looking for a quick, easy and simple game. Also, I’ve seen One Page Rules in the comments so many times last year that I think it’s time to do a deep dive video on it.
@@thewynnest I think you totally should do a deep dive into the OPR rules. I am mostly interested right now in the Firefight rules, but might try the larger army sized version or the fantasy versions at some point. I've downloaded the basics and made a few lists to try it out, and after just a couple games of Firefight I think I do like it. Hoping to find a few people in my area to play it with. I think it's a great system for anyone who has some minis and is thinking about getting back into wargaming, or for someone to just try out wargaming without a huge initial buy in. Also, for casual gamers that want something fairly simple, but there is also plenty of complexity and strategy , as well as room to add more to the rules to make it more in depth. I might end up subscribing to get the full version if I end up finding some opponents. I also have a decent bit of terrain and 40K models, so am very tempted to pick up the new version of Kill Team. Hivestorm looks like a great deal for people that don't have terrain, or who like the teams it includes. I am not sure if I will pick up the smaller starter set, or just the core rules book and measuring tools... but I do kinda want the SM team and the flat MDF terrain that is pre-printed looks handy to have. Not particularly into the Death Guard, but would probably paint em up anyhow...LOL Aside from Kill Team and OPR Firefight, I am also looking forward to trying the Warmachine Mk4 rules. I have a decent collection of old Mk2 minis, so I've gotten the app and made some lists, and will be trying the Mk4 rules. The nice thing is that trying Mk4, as well as OPR Firefight won't really cost me anything. I'm hoping that Mk4 gains some traction now with what is happening lately and I wish SFG the best in reviving the game, before I took a break from games, Mk2 was one of my most favorite games. Cant wait to see what other content you put out this winter, cheers!
@@thewynnestJo 1490 Doom is rad...& All the Others too...all of them are Independent TTs (only necromunda of course Not)...& All are Kind of Mini-Agnostic Games
Star Wars legion is super good! The new edition was overal a great change especially the increase in standard points limit! One of my favorites! Super chill and simply mechanics with a great game flow
Game seems to have gotten better! Now let’s hope one day they’ll change back the upgrade cards to their small form, but I guess that’s wishful thinking.
@@DoctorRedstone72 yeh I’m just wondering where we supposed to put all those cards on the table. But kinda like you said; I feel that just printing out a pdf or do it digitally is the way to go now. I really liked those little cards tho.
My Top 10 1: Marvel Crisis Protocol ( The game I play 90% of the time MCP has become my most favorite game of all time and the one I most talk about to anyone, I have gotten many people from family to friends to people at my local shop that I support heavy in to play MCP. MCP is by far AMG's only hit tho they try to repeat what make MCP so awesome with Star Wars Shatterpoint, Though Shatterpoint an MCP share some aspects MCP will alway win over Star Wars Shatterpoint due to the fact that MCP team construction has wayyyyy more freedom then Shatterpoint will ever have and is a hell of alot more fun to play> 2: Conquest ( I've yet to hit this on the table but overall of rank an file fantasy games Conquest is one i very much enjoy the range that Para Bellum has released so far. 3: Infinity (A very good small scale game that feels more like a first person shooter at times, I haven't played much of Infinity but I highly recommend it) 4: Black Powder (If you want to do huge army battles like Napoleonic War to American Civil War can't go wrong with Black Powder) 5: Bolt Action (If your into WW2 history Bolt Action is a good way to start, the game scales very nicely from squad size to large army) 6: 40K (10th ed is coming to the end of its 3 year cycle, so if you want to get into 40K now would be the time to start buying mini's and then hold of until 11th ed is released) 7: AoS (4th ed is shaping up to not be too bad but the spearhead mode will go unsupported at some point in 4th editions life) 8: Star Wars Shatterpoint( Now at the moment Shatterpoint is very very linear in force construction it can be fun to play but not often) 9: The Old World ( If you started in the day with WHFB this one is a no brainer) 10: DC Miniatures Game( This game maybe very limited support in the US the game really is good.)
Great list, thanks! I’ve been looking at Bolt Action every now and then. I always had a deal with my best buddy that we’re getting into historical wargaming when we are retired. But in reality, probably within the next few years.
Opr mainly, it is what 40k and fantasy should have been. Same models if you want, much better game without all of those drawbacks you mentioned with gw games. Bolt action 3rd is a good game. Battletech alpha strike is more of a traditional mini game, same minis, more of them, with less record keeping. Then we get into space wierdos, sword wierdos, and gaslands refueled. So many games! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the comment. I have been watching some more videos on OPR. Definitely giving it a try in 2025! I have a bunch of armies, now trapped in boxes cause I don’t want to dedicate a study to the rules. OPR sure does seem like the solution.
My Top 3 are (in no real order): - Star Wars Legion - Bolt Action 3rd - Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game: War of the Rohirrim (I love MESBG) Very next in line: - County Road Z - Rogue Warriors: A Modern Warfare Skirmish Game - Mantic's Epic Warpath Games not no your list that I am trying in 2025 (bought and ready to go): - Flames of War - Infinity - Necromunda - Fallout Wasteland Warfare
@thewynnest it is a shame that the player base isn't that large. But we need to start somewhere, else that player base will never grow! They have an app, you can actually see (and use) all the cards without buying anything. You can play with proxy models. It is nice, because later you can invest in their nice sculpts on a team you actually like.
I’ll continue playing Legions Imperialis, Middle Earth and Song of Ice and Fire. I’m looking to start Saga, and Dropfleet Commander. I just moved and they seem to have a moonstone community. Great looking game.
@@thewynnest I find ASOIAF to be the most fun and tight out of all the games I play. Then Middle Earth comes in second and beats it out due to immersion and narrative. I want to try Saga and repurpose my ASOIAF minis for it. Totally new to Dropfleet. Also looking to possibly start Blkout
Cool video, asoiaf, legion, infinity and battletech are my favorite games, a little bit sad they are only honorable mention(ok nit legion) but the idea is thst
Thank you! Honorable mentions in this video really just means that I haven’t looked them up properly. In fact, since making this video some of the mentions are already in my top 5 😛.. So stay tuned 🔥
Star wars legion got so expensive 😢 just playing combat patrol, spearhead and kill team as a daddy of two they fill my tabletop needs in the right amount of time
Got way too into 40k lol, probably gonna sell an army at some point to consolidate haha. Decided I'm not gonna play kill team though since I play the big version, instead Ima look to Infinity for a skirmish setting. Also setting shatterpoint aside in favor of legion.
X-Wing started off with so much promise to be a scenario-driven "just like the movies" kind of experience, and it really delivered on that level if you were willing to put a little bit of homebrewing effort into it. But by the second wave of releases, it became apparent that X-Wing was only ever going to be a pay-to-win game focused around standardized tournament play. I was fascinated to see how the new owners of the game attempted to swing toward more of a scenario-driven style of play, but I think that happened ten years too late.
I haven’t been around for so long, thanks for the insights. I’m pretty excited to see what the community comes up with in 2025. Hopefully back to thematic gameplay?
I haven’t played it and not planning to spend another couple of hundred on another GW army game. I did look at some battle reports, looks very solid! But not on this list unfortunately.
I haven’t played it, never been a huuuuge Halo fan, but if the rules are solid I’d love to try it out. One of my best buddies played Halo like there was no tomorrow, might be able to get him excited about it.
Pretty solid list, however its missing two of my current favourites, Bushido by GCT and Carnevale by TTC. Also, Rumbleslam is pretty fun but more of a mini wargame
Thanks for your suggestions. Bushido could definitely have been on the list, I’ve been following the game for some time now. Not sure if it is for me though, heard the system is pretty rules heavy?
@@thewynnest Its a very tactical skirmish indeed but id say it is no worse than KT. In KT you have to juggle with so many different things other than your minis: weapons, racial, tacops, ploys, equipment, terrain, etc. Bushido feels more straightforward in many aspects. Play a demo if you ever get the chance, you won't regret it
Legion can be pretty frustrating if you're taking it seriously. It feels more like a board game disguised as a tabletop game. The reboot hasn't helped much either, as many components (mainly cards) are hard to find, and several factions are very weak due to power creep, with no updates yet. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a dedicated friend to play with, like I do.
I play mostly casual. Some small tourneys every now and then. But a thematic list is more important to me than a meta list. Cards hard to find? Most of them haven’t even released yet I think right?
Funny, I bought the Moonstone starter set almost 2 years ago and forgot about it. Just found the box recently. Sadly, in that time, it appears as if it went from an up and rising game at my FLGS to them not carrying anything and others in the area not playing it. 1 day I'll get more minis for it and try hard to find someone to play.
@@thewynnest Katy, TX. I think the idea behind the game is amazing. I hope it takes off, but either way, I'll be getting more of the minis to paint if nothing else
Moonstone... never heard about it. I will check it out but Star Wars Legion second position? Maybe I miss something... has been a while that I dont play it.
Not a single mention on Warzone Eternal? The original was huge back in the 90 here in Sweden, but I guess it's not as well known world wide. It's releasing this month I think
Great Video... I would make the Timestamps NAmed! Warhammer 40k Dragged... Bolt Action is so hot right now! Marvel Crisis Protocol! ALTERNATING ACTIVATIONS! What Happend to UNDERWOLRDS? The Game was good! 6:55 THE OLDWORLD!!! FANTASY! WAY TO GO TRENCH CRUSADE!!!
Thanks dude! I’ll get to it. And yeah underworlds was pretty great. Did get a little bloated tho, haven’t tried this new one but I’ll probably pick it up at some point.
Yah our lists couldn't look more different if they tried. What I will be playing in 2025 Battletech, infinity, asoiaf, mcp, godtear, Mordhiem, OPR, trench crusade and kings of war Games getting added before 2025, turnip 28 Just getting everything ready for our new years eve, new game brawl. 3 armies done, the fourth should be ready for paint either tonight or tomorrow. Possible games. Conquest if weaver courts get released. star trek into the unknown, depends on when the romulans get released. I also want to check the quality of the minis Warmachine depends on how the group feels about things, I am the only one waiting on a new faction after Christmas here. So I would just run my old stuff. Moonstone, if our lgs starts carrying it we will start playing it. Games I secretly hope my group drops for 2025... shatterpoint... I just don't find it fun most of the time, even with a growing community... I like being a redrum hobo and shatterpoint actively tries to prevent my fun. Kings of war... between asoiaf and after the demo game of turnip 28. I am just not feeling it. Games I am concerned about going into 2025... Mcp... okay, I just got my monsters unleashed painted, i am looking forward to Elsa bloodstone and man thing. But the game itself needs a refresh, a 2.0 or a major overhaul of a bunch of characters and leaderships. I am so tired of seeing the same splash characters everywhere. With 200 plus characters they need to fix the problem children. They also need to nerf the open affiliations leaderships, after running thralls a few times and hellfire club for two tournaments... they need some restrictions. My first thought would be to gain affiliation status a character cannot have a higher threat value than the leader, then make the benefits of the leaderships restricted to affiliated characters. Asoiaf... ugh, this game needs a 2.0 or a s6 already. the s5 update was so stale upon arrival a rotten egg would have been more interesting. Ugh talking out the side of my mouth again... I am still having fun but the local community is withering. Things I am hyped for, infinity n5... will it be a boom or bust?
@@thewynnestif you like small games, have a bunch of random bits and like converting. Look up turnip 28. The rules are available for Free, there are stls available for free. It works well with the scatter terrain and ruins from my Mordhiem stuff. One of the converted armies is made up of the old whfb orks from the 5th or 6th starter (replaced the heads with cubes, painted them in pale flesh rones, then used ak mud and slathered it alll over my beautiful paint jobs). A bunch of the bows were replaced with blundrbust muskets, keeping the slightly cartoonish look. Another used the empire models from the same box. The heads were replaced with 3d printed heads with the longest noses I could find. The army I am currently working on is replaced the heads with cook wear, kettles, pots, Cauldrons, the one unit of cavalry have busted up fine China for shields mounted on chair backs. My army is actually, mantic games halflings on stilts with baskets filled with vegetables. All The soldiers, dog cavalry have had all their heads and tails replaced with 3d printed chess pieces, indicating their role. Printing the pieces made scale matching a breeze and let me sculpt in detail like eye holes, or visor slits. Godtear is probably the best wargame pretending it is a board game. Due to the nature of the game and army building you can play the same warband over and over while not getting bored of I and continually finding new synergies. There are 33 warbands in the game currently, you pick 4 for your list, then you play 3 in each game and everygame you can shake up your 3 choices. There are 4 archetypes, each focusing on a different part of the game and scoring off that focus. Overview the champion (red), the minions (yellow), the flags (blue) and the board state (green). The most stable and predictable team build is 2 red, then your choice. The most fun is playing a draft format, where you never know what your team will look like OPR or one page rules, is just a rule set were our Warhammer armies can be a beer and pretzels fun again... as I have stepped away from competitive gaming since the lockdowns . I just want to have fun and ensure anyone I play against is having a good time. OPR just takes the book churn pressure off people.
KillTeam is not just an "introduction" to 40k. Its a very deep game, much more in-depth than 40k but also more streamlined and fun to play in my opinion. Also understaning KT rules or hiving KT models wont really help you with 40k.
star wars legion is out of all the usual places here in my area sadly.... hoping for Konflict '47 new version being brought into line with Bolt Action 3rd ed.
Personally, I'd say 10 games like that would be too much for me in a year. I would feel like I am pretty bad at all of them, not having enough time to focus and improve in each. I'd rather play 1-2 and see the progress I am making.

I started OPR a few months ago and haven't looked back. Plus I feel I am not slaved to rules and hinged on every move OPR makes. OPR content really feels like my own.
I will definitely give it a go in 2025!
my top 3 games:
1. Infinity
2. Bushido
3.Moonstone.
Ahh Bushido. Should have atleast been a honorable mention in the list. Been following that game for quite some tim, does look a bit complicated to me tho.
@@thewynnest I've always been curious about it. I would like to try a good skirmish samurai game. Maybe even an epic scaled one.
@@mythrando epic scale skirmish? You mean model wise? That would be a cute little table haha.
I did see an epic scale samurai game in my feed a while back.. Not sure what it was tho.
Greetings from the OTT (Over The Top!) official Trench crusade podcast. Thanks for the mention! Fred
Hi Fred! No problem, looking forward to play TC in 2025! Will definitely check the podcast 👌
And yet they still get new players all the time. You’d think the community would warn people off.
I always try to warn people that they should know what they get into. Maybe I’ll make a separate video about it one day.
@@thewynnest Well I come from a largely Legion background. been playing since 2021, its a lot more affordable and a better game overall I think. gonna try MESBG next. doesn't look like it suffers from the same issues as 40K.
So glad to hear you're enjoying Moonstone so much! We've got some great stuff planned for 2025 and can't wait to share when it's ready! 😁
Ohh can’t wait! I love what you guys are doing 🔥 Hope this game gets picked up even more 🙏
Cool
Well, it seems you are quite the GW games fan. lol All good, we like what we like.
Personally, there are only 4 that I plan on spending time with: Infinity, Blkout, Arsenal and 5 Parsecs
I guess the nostalgia factor is what gets GW on the list. And well, some great systems like Kill Team and Underworlds. But I have a feeling this next year is going to be important for them. And their attitude/practices towards the customers will matter more than ever.
Arsenal I’ve never heard of. Will take a look!
Good content as always wyn
You should try Warcry, intended to be Kill Team for AoS, but it’s so much better
I used to play war cry every now and then! I’m actually really curious about the state of the game nowadays. Thanks for the tip
I just checked out Moonstone and wow. How did they make every miniature look like a blast to paint regardless of your play them or not.
I'll be playing a lot of Infinity this upcoming year. A new addition is around the corner (rules are free), the manga cyberpunk aesthetic (Ghost in the Shell/Appleseed) is great, and I love the "always your turn" philosophy behind the game.
I’m pretty interested in the game as well! Minis look great, didn’t know about a new edition so will definitely check that out. Thanks for your time!
Im looking forward to playing a lot more of A Song and Ice and Fire this coming year. Its a great game and Ive fallen off the last year and a half or so. Ive been painting Baratheons this month to get back into it. Im also looking forward to playing Relicblade more, and assembling and painting my small MoonStone collection
.
Cool! I’d also go for Baratheon if I’d play this game. And do look into Relicblade and Moonstone, they’re great!
Looks like fun and lovely models!
no Warmachine ?
Right? It's so much fun!
Not really on my radar, but I’ll look into it!
Hopefully going to get more into Battletech, Middle Earth, Star Wars Legion, Bolt Action, and Dropfleet/Dropzone Commander this year. As all of them are either something I have forces for or have caught my attention.
Cool! Solid games
Malifaux...
Thanks! Don’t be shocked. It’s just a personal list and Malifaux hasn’t really caught my attention. It might one day!
Brilliant rundown Wynn. Really enjoyed this. The Moonstone card mechanic is great. I consume an insane amount of rulesets as research while developing our game and the up and comers I'm most excited to actually play are 1490 Doom and Zeo Genesis.
Thanks my dude! Definitely do let me know when your game is done, maybe I can help 🫡
Honestly a really great line up!
I play Middle Earth, Legion, Armada, Infinity and getting into 40K/kill team thanks to my little brothers whose friends got him into it.
Hope to get into old world some day as Total Warhammer II is my favorite game of all time.
I have a feeling I’ll get into MESBG this year as well. Currently fighting off the fomo for the new box 😖
Oathmark. Great game and an amazingly affordable miniature line for a fantasy rank and file. It does everything I always wanted out of the Oldworld, but never got.
Cool! I’ll take a look.
Moonstone is absolutely one of the best if not the best miniature gaming experiences out there.
I would also recommend The Drowned Earth, as well as anything by Black Site Studios, and Forbidden Psalm.
Oehhh yes, Forbidden Psalm. Forgot about that one!
No mention of Warmachine?! It was just bought up by Steamforged games. Lots of energy behind it.
Sorry? 😛.. I will check out Warmachine, thanks! 🙏
i'm looking forward to Bolt Action 3rd edition, Warhammer Kill Team and A song of ice and fire: Tactics coming out in februari 2025.
Oh yeah! The skirmish version of ASOIAF right? Good excuse for me to finally get a box of Baratheon knights!
Subscribed based on Moonstone being #1! I look forward to some Moonstone content.
Awesome! Welcome 🙏
Great video, it's a shame about X-Wing, but I find there is still a solid community and games to be played.
Yeah we should just keep playing it 🎉. It’s a great game.
@@thewynnest Agreed. Keep up the great work, your videos are very well done!
@kienanwilson6484 yea, x-wing is very kid friendly sorry to see it go under
Been hearing a lot of good things about Moonstone. If it is as easy to play as you said, might pick up a starter set eventually so play with my board game pals (who are not into wargaming). My focus currently lies on getting my first Spearhead and Kill Team done so I can get into those games. Been hearing a lot of good things with both games!
Hey my man, yeah Moonstone is great for those occasions. Maybe 2025 will have me starting a Spearhead as well, maybe, probably 😶🌫️.. See you around 🤘
I’m seeing players slowly coming back to Warmachine. We’ll see what SFG does with it?
Because of your video I am now also heavily invested in getting a warband and buy/build an game board for Moonstone. Am a big fan of Legion, Song Ice miniature game and Bolt Action but somehow Moonstone looks like something different, really fun and oozing with theme! I live in the Netherlands and would love to play some games in the area. Would you have advise were that is possible?
That’s awesome 👏. I can highly recommend ‘Een Kleine Wereld’. I met these guys a month ago and were playing a league of moonstone throughout 2025. It’s in Papendrecht. Where are you located?
@@thewynnest Noord-Brabant! Looking forward to your video on Moonstone.
I just picked up Relicblade, I look forward to playing it!
Has been on my radar for soooo long. Just don’t know anyone to play it with.
How do you feel about the difficulty of infinity compared to other games?
Song of Ice & Fire is exploding in popularity where I live.
Great! I hope to try it out in 2025.
Honorable unmentioned: Blood & Plunder. Best pirate mini skirmish game on the planet.
I have never heard of it, thanks!
Your number 1, I love it! Ok now I have to paint up my models for sure and get a game going in 2025.
Yeah for sure dude! Let’s do it in the next year. I teach you moonstone, you teach me One Piece? 🤘😛
@thewynnest it is a deal!
What no historicals? Saga is pretty nice to get into, you can check it the 18th at ducosim as there is a tournament there. While it is an I go you go system there is interaction in the opponents turn. And it is not as scary as historical gaming sounds.
Tbh too much games workshop on the list, there is so much more out there (better and more affordable)
Anyway nice vid
No historical just yet! While I am somewhat of a history nut I never got into it. Particularly interested in trying the Bolt Action system. We’ll have a whole year to try it out and probably will at some point.
Thanks for the compliment!
1. Cyberpunk red combat zone
2. Relic blade
3. Blkout
HM. Marvel crisis protocol
Ah yes, the Cyberpunk game. Will look into it.
I love blkout
1. Deadzone: easy to learn, quick to play, deep strategy, using Mantic and Kill Team proxy minis!
2. La Bataille de Kulm: wargame Kickstarting now
3. For King & Parliament: 15mm ECW with Steel Fist and Warlord figures
4. Blood Bowl! ... and BB Sevens
5. Nemesis
6. A Song of Ice & Fire
7. Space Hulk
Just quickly checked dead zone. Looks pretty nice!!
Also: BB7’s hell yes 🔥
What?!! Infinity needs more love, best rule system. No Bushido, Warcrow, Malifaux, the reboot of Warmachine, A song of fire and ice, Necromunda. Greetings and congratulations for your channel.
I’ve checking out infinity in the last couple of days, seems interesting. Thanks for your list!
Warmachine got bought by Steamforged Games. Never Steamforged.
Great video! I'm glad to see Moonstone blowing up worldwide.
Thank you! I REALLY hope that is does. Its such a good system.
@thewynnest it's the most innovative miniatures wargame system I know of; every action feels so interactive with the other players.
Absolutely right. That arcane deck is so much fun. I tend to ‘be honest’ and not bluff throughout the game. Then when I need it most I bluff and people believe me 😝
I’m playing a league throughout next year, so hopefully some battle reports!
Interesting… When I finish my army I’ll probably go to a demo game at my LGS. Thanks 🙏
Moonstone grabbed me and didn't let go. It is one of the best wargames I have ever played. I now own all but three of their models and it will be the only game where I have painted my entire collection of it.
Yeah so much fun! Hope I can get lots of game going this year. Starting painted my models soon 🙏
My brothers and I have been playing Legion for several years now. It’s better than ever! 😁
Nice! Slowly but steadily getting back into it the last couple of weeks and yeah, the new edition is actually quite better.
Sure thing! I’d love to know what it’s all about. Drop me an email! (Thewynnest(at)gmail(dot)com)
Rangers of shadow deep is fansastic yes. Like your style!
Lovely list!!!!
Thank you!!
Glad to see you return to Legion. Its such a good game! I love the 40k universe but just cant stomach the game and rule books. If we could get 10% of the 40k crowd into legion we'd have an even more incredible community!
Of course! Legion is still the favorite army scale game I’ve ever played. Very excited for what’s to come in 2025 and make more content about it.
Blkout has been my new go to and i love it but im really excited about trench crusade, I missed being able to back by a few days 😭 hopefully they do late backers at some point.
Sure! Or just kitbash of course.
I have "invested" heavily in Moonstone this year and hope to play my first game in 2025 😀
Great choice!
I have the full Warhammer Underworlds S1 and S2 (Nightvault). Did not know they are no longer 'legal'. Is there a reviced set of cards from GW for the warbands there?
Yes, there are new cards available for MOST of them. Not all of them.
Also, your boards are no longer legal.
Ill be playing Conquest, and working towards painted demo forces for Dragon Rampant, Xenos Rampant, and Limbo: Eternal War once thier 1.5 version delivers
Cool! Haven’t heard of many of those. Will take a look.
Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game has been the best miniature game since 2001.
Looking into it more and more. What do you think about the new edition?
@thewynnest there are reasons why existing players who are unwilling to change won't like it, specifically for the changes to list building, and "rotation" of models which are still playable in everything but official tournaments. There's some negativity around that, but for me personally I am excited for new models being introduced to the range, and tighter rules (which were already good).
@@skywalkersindar7463 yeah heard something about the (lack of) flexibility of list building in the new edition. I’m going in fresh so I think I’ll tag along for this new edition.
@thewynnest I believe you will be thankful that you did!
Not particularly into the Death Guard, but would probably paint em up anyhow...LOL
Aside from Kill Team and OPR Firefight, I am also looking forward to trying the Warmachine Mk4 rules.
Here are some TT games i think everybody should know about: 1490 Doom, Alien Zoology, Innocence, Adventure Quest, Scabz, Turnip, Necromunda
Seen 1490 Doom pop up in the comments a lot. Thanks for the list!
@thewynnest the upgrade cards are half size, I don't think they've ever been full size cards
@@DoctorRedstone72 I’m pretty sure they are standard size now.
@thewynnest dang you're right, I kinda hate that. My lists will always be digital anyways so it doesn't matter for lots of us that do that.
@@DoctorRedstone72 yeh I’m just wondering where we supposed to put all those cards on the table. But kinda like you said; I feel that just printing out a pdf or do it digitally is the way to go now. I really liked those little cards tho.
Personally , in 2025, I will play Team Yankee, Bolt Action, Battletech and Flames of War
Cool, if you like those definitely stay tuned to this channel. I might have gotten myself into one of these games 😶🌫️
My Top 10
1: Marvel Crisis Protocol ( The game I play 90% of the time MCP has become my most favorite game of all time and the one I most talk about to anyone, I have gotten many people from family to friends to people at my local shop that I support heavy in to play MCP. MCP is by far AMG's only hit tho they try to repeat what make MCP so awesome with Star Wars Shatterpoint, Though Shatterpoint an MCP share some aspects MCP will alway win over Star Wars Shatterpoint due to the fact that MCP team construction has wayyyyy more freedom then Shatterpoint will ever have and is a hell of alot more fun to play>
2: Conquest ( I've yet to hit this on the table but overall of rank an file fantasy games Conquest is one i very much enjoy the range that Para Bellum has released so far.
3: Infinity (A very good small scale game that feels more like a first person shooter at times, I haven't played much of Infinity but I highly recommend it)
4: Black Powder (If you want to do huge army battles like Napoleonic War to American Civil War can't go wrong with Black Powder)
5: Bolt Action (If your into WW2 history Bolt Action is a good way to start, the game scales very nicely from squad size to large army)
6: 40K (10th ed is coming to the end of its 3 year cycle, so if you want to get into 40K now would be the time to start buying mini's and then hold of until 11th ed is released)
7: AoS (4th ed is shaping up to not be too bad but the spearhead mode will go unsupported at some point in 4th editions life)
8: Star Wars Shatterpoint( Now at the moment Shatterpoint is very very linear in force construction it can be fun to play but not often)
9: The Old World ( If you started in the day with WHFB this one is a no brainer)
10: DC Miniatures Game( This game maybe very limited support in the US the game really is good.)
Great list, thanks! I’ve been looking at Bolt Action every now and then. I always had a deal with my best buddy that we’re getting into historical wargaming when we are retired. But in reality, probably within the next few years.
GW has been releasing new spearhead rules every month or so since 4th launch lol so idk about that
Opr mainly, it is what 40k and fantasy should have been.
My Top 3 are (in no real order):
- Star Wars Legion
- Bolt Action 3rd
- Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game: War of the Rohirrim (I love MESBG)
Very next in line:
- County Road Z
- Rogue Warriors: A Modern Warfare Skirmish Game
- Mantic's Epic Warpath
Games not no your list that I am trying in 2025 (bought and ready to go):
- Flames of War
- Infinity
- Necromunda
- Fallout Wasteland Warfare
Solid! Thanks for your input.
Look into oathmark if you've never played it.... solid rank and file game!
I will!
For me it is:
1. Malifaux, due to its card-based mechanism, no dice!
2. Warhammer underworlds, previous version
3. Moonstone
Never tried Malifaux but heard sooo many good things about it.
Nice! Thought about including ASOIAF on the list as well. Definitely trying it out at the very least.
Yeah give Moonstone a shot, it is great.
Glad to see Moonstone #1. Great Game!
It’s simply the best game I played this year!
Infinity is coming up with a new edition.
So I’ve noticed! Might check it out
Cool video, asoiaf, legion, infinity and battletech are my favorite games, a little bit sad they are only honorable mention(ok nit legion) but the idea is thst
Thank you! Honorable mentions in this video really just means that I haven’t looked them up properly. In fact, since making this video some of the mentions are already in my top 5 😛.. So stay tuned 🔥
The most recent battletech Kickstarter made over twice as much money as the trench crusade Kickstarter.
You’re right. I made a mistake 🙏
Star wars legion got so expensive 😢 just playing combat patrol, spearhead and kill team as a daddy of two they fill my tabletop needs in the right amount of time
Yeah crazy.. That’s a huge bummer with the new edition.
Where can i get trench crusade miniatures?
Take a look at their kickstarter. They have some late pledges up as we speak. Or wait until 2025. They’ll be available in some LGS’s.
Ummmm What is a LGS?
@ local game store!
Got way too into 40k lol, probably gonna sell an army at some point to consolidate haha. Decided I'm not gonna play kill team though since I play the big version, instead Ima look to Infinity for a skirmish setting. Also setting shatterpoint aside in favor of legion.
40k is a great game! Just not for me right now. But this might change next week 😂. Nostalgia often takes over for me.
I have a completely different view, that as a dogfighting game, X-Wing got significantly worse by introducing objectives.
For me it would be:
1. Infinity (N5 releases this month)
2. Carnevale
3. Warcrow
Heard about a new infinity release, might check it out! Thanks for your list 🤘
You had me at 40K. Couldn’t agree more
For me, nothing GW related
1. Battletech Alphastrike
2. Frostgrave
3. Legends of Signum
Moonstone? I was looking them up and seen the dusk till dawn started seat and omg the goblin riding a pug is too stinking cute.
It’s glorious. Game system is very refreshing!
TechCommander and Sailpower, both by Sea Dog Game Studios.
Thanks for the suggestions!
Whats with Horus Heresy?
Like 40k, but just better without those "hardcore" competition-feeling.
I haven’t played it and not planning to spend another couple of hundred on another GW army game. I did look at some battle reports, looks very solid! But not on this list unfortunately.
THE NEW KILLTEAM IS SO GOOD!
Steel Rift maybe if you're into Mech games
I do! Will check it out 🔥
If its gameplay you value, the list below is the cream of the crop:
Infinity
Malifaux
Guildball
Warmachine
Bushido
SAGA
Looks like a great list. SAGA is a special one on the list, would love to try it.
Opinions on Halo Flashpoint?
Ah bummer! Where are u located? I have a feeling this game will become bigger this year.
@@thewynnest Katy, TX. I think the idea behind the game is amazing. I hope it takes off, but either way, I'll be getting more of the minis to paint if nothing else
Totally agree Moonstone is the most simplest game to play
Yet so deep! The keyword synergies between the shared factions is pretty insane. Lots of possibilities. Such a great game.
Moonstone... never heard about it. I will check it out but Star Wars Legion second position? Maybe I miss something... has been a while that I dont play it.
It’s just my favorite army scale war game out there. Check my video on it if you want to know why I think it’s that good.
I hope they successfuly re-release Konflikt 47. Also, Dystopian Wars and Armoured Clash.
Konflikt 47 looks amazing. Been following it for a while, might give it a go.
Getting into Bolt Action now that a new edition just released.
I said it before and I’ll say it again; I really missed that one on the list! Never played Bolt Action tho.
Not a single mention on Warzone Eternal? The original was huge back in the 90 here in Sweden, but I guess it's not as well known world wide. It's releasing this month I think
Great list but I’m not investing any more time into anything asmodee/amg. Got burned already by Xwing 2.5
Understandable. I’m giving them one more year 😆
Legion forewer 🎉 !!
🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡
Great Video... I would make the Timestamps NAmed!
Warhammer 40k Dragged... Bolt Action is so hot right now! Marvel Crisis Protocol!
ALTERNATING ACTIVATIONS!
What Happend to UNDERWOLRDS?
The Game was good!
6:55 THE OLDWORLD!!! FANTASY!
WAY TO GO TRENCH CRUSADE!!!
Thanks dude! I’ll get to it.
And yeah underworlds was pretty great. Did get a little bloated tho, haven’t tried this new one but I’ll probably pick it up at some point.
5 Parsecs for sure.
Necromunda.
Wanted to get Moonstone but as the guy said... There's definitely no one in my country that plays it, so... 😢
That’s too bad. Great games tho!
Yah our lists couldn't look more different if they tried.
What I will be playing in 2025
Battletech, infinity, asoiaf, mcp, godtear, Mordhiem, OPR, trench crusade and kings of war
Games getting added before 2025,
turnip 28
Just getting everything ready for our new years eve, new game brawl. 3 armies done, the fourth should be ready for paint either tonight or tomorrow.
Possible games.
Conquest if weaver courts get released.
star trek into the unknown, depends on when the romulans get released. I also want to check the quality of the minis
Warmachine depends on how the group feels about things, I am the only one waiting on a new faction after Christmas here.
Things I am hyped for,
infinity n5... will it be a boom or bust?
Lots of games I haven’t heard of, and great insights on the state of certain games. Thanks! Hope you’ll find your game of choice soon.
The most fun is playing a draft format, where you never know what your team will look like
OPR or one page rules, is just a rule set were our Warhammer armies can be a beer and pretzels fun again... as I have stepped away from competitive gaming since the lockdowns .
Believe I mentioned the perfect ‘entry point into the 40k universe’ right? If not, I stand corrected! You are right.
@@thewynnest oh... yeah my bad
star wars legion is out of all the usual places here in my area sadly....
hoping for Konflict '47 new version being brought into line with Bolt Action 3rd ed.
Shit! Missed Konflict47 on the list 😖.. some of the coolest alternate history stuff out there. Reminds me of Machinen Krieger.
Middle Earth would like a word... Seriously, this is the best game GW ever produced!
11:29 😉
Personally, I'd say 10 games like that would be too much for me in a year. I would feel like I am pretty bad at all of them, not having enough time to focus and improve in each.
I'd rather play 1-2 and see the progress I am making.
Oh you’re totally right. I’m not going to play all of these. Like mentioned at the end I’ll probably play Moonstone, Kill Team and Legion. The rest tho, I’m pretty interested in trying out.
@@thewynnest Oh, yest, trying out is certainly worth it. Always a good thing to find out a new game that is even better than the ones we already play and worth switching to.
Didn't Kingdom Death pull like $5 million from their second KS?
Yesss. I wasn’t wrong 😶🌫️
Sort of forgot one of the better skirmish games - Infinity. As well as The Barons Wars
Yeah it’s in the mentions, for a second. I know it deserves more love, but I know nothing about the game. I’ll try to cover it this year tho!
Trench crusade for the win. 🤘
