Just a tip for cleaning the grinder. As you finish grinding dump, a bunch of ice cubes in it and grind it right into the bucket. It will end up rinsing out most of the leftover chum inside, then spray with the hose then WD-40.
Guys , I really enjoy your video . I i too make my own chum , but teaching your kids makes this an AWESOME video . Thanks for sharing it . .... By the way I hooked up an old electric motor and a pulley and make the whole thing a lot easier .
Wow.... Better than any chum you'll buy off the shelf.... I wonder if a paint bucket stirrer on a drill would make it easier? Definitely a cordless drill on the grinder...temporarily anchored to the tongue of the boat trailer
I use the plastic containers that the Turkey comes in from Aldi’s. Can stack them up in the freezer. When it comes time to use them, take off the lid, pop the chum out like an ice out of an ice cube tray and put two blocks in the chum bag. I use pilchards also, but I also throw in mullet, croakers, lady fish, Pinfish and have even thrown in a few salt water catfish.
Hey bros, my wife and I have been fishing for about a year now and we tried tuna as our chum. we poke some holes in the tin then string a rope through it and we catch a lot of of chubs with that , it is awesome videos like these that encourages us to start our fishing channel which we did about 3 weeks ago . we mostly do shoreline fishing AS we don't have a boat but we'll try this and let you know how it works for us ... awesome video , thanks for sharing 💟
Thanks for the video! Can you do this with bonita or the leftovers after cleaning the fish you catch instead of just thowing it out? With the grinder process fish bone?
Glad you like the video. It absolutely works with fillets of bonito and other fish. With the model that I have, it’s not a good thing to put large bones through it. It gets jammed up if you do. Sometimes if I’m trying to put larger bones through, I will crush them with a mallet first, and then run them through the grinder after.
@@watchyourlip3209 Great info. Thank you for getting back to me. I've got fish leftovers in the chest freezer that I refuse to throw out so I'm going to try this.
Take that Arizona tea plastic bottle, cut bottom off and use to funnel into grinder. Bonus, measure how many times filled and you can set recipe based on math not might be lol. Good stuff. Families that fish together stay together. Cheers.
@@watchyourlip3209 I tried the leaf shredder method last year after seeing on tube and saying brilliant. Wasn't as fine and bricks washed off quick. Came back to ye ole grinder and attached a used cheap corded power drill to and what a difference. We use the funnel trick and keep eyes on to add oats, eggs and oil. And we prefer the cardboard rounds like oats come in. But blocks also run well in dollar store laundry bag. One thing about the shredder was it ate carcasses without chopping up. Miss that. But just chop heads to feed into grinder and spines and tails will follow. Chum is EXPENSIVE in FL Keys, so we build banks all year and share where needed for our boats. Thats the next lesson for your son to see. I love that you have him in the mix and hope these tips help you all fill those freezers!!! Bless you to brother. Cheers.
@@herewegofans brother - thanks so much for the ideas. One of my next purchases will be a nice big freezer for the garage. I’d love to make a bunch of chum blocks. I just bought 6 blocks of chum for a fishing trip and it hurt how much it cost. I did it have space in the freezer to make my own this time!!!
Hey man this videos help me out so much I’m getting into the bay business in one of the things I need to learn how to make or Trumbull box and seeing how well yours worked I want to try to copy at the exact same but I use shad is that a Pilcrds
One other thing I do is try to match the chum with what I am fishing with. For example, if I am primarily going to fish with shrimp, I add some shrimp in with the mix, if I going to to fish with squid, add some squid, Seems to help with the hits. I guess it would be like us smelling steak on the grill but all we are offered is chicken.
Thanks. I’ve tried researching this and find different ordinances that seem to contradict each other. For instance: section 13-3 (a) says nets should not exceed 7 feet but section 13-5 (a) says you can use cast nets up to 9’ and 18’ spread in Broward county waters. On top of that, I see it common practice to use 10-12’ nets from vessels by recreational and charter captains. It’s quite confusing. If you have clarity I’d love to get it so we don’t violate any laws.
@@watchyourlip3209 Its all so confusing. I ended up doing the 7 as the 500 dollar fine scared me lol but I just don't see FWC enforcing County ordinances though. Good video though
😂I am literally trying to swat flies away while watching this haha 🤣 this is awesome 👏 good content! Thanks!

I laughed my ass off, when your boy said if you wanna play a trick on your wives with the milk carton.

Guns Fish Drums fantastic!!!!! Let me know how it works. I’m all about DyI instead of buying 12$ chum blocks!!!
That sure looks good to eat I wonder how it taste that looks so yummy
Yea never mind
Dude. I was thinking about making burgers out of it and throwing them on the grill and making a video. I know that would be good video!!!!
Nice
Will this work in a pinfish trap to catch pinfish?
Great question. I would imagine it would. I don’t get many pinfish on my coast. I’d love for you to try it and let me know how it works
Orange juice and milk cartons are great because when done, staple the tops back together
Very interesting.

Good word bro. I agree. We make chum blocks out of sand fleas sometimes. We have a cool vid on that
Does fishing for different kind of fish requires different kind of chum? Or any chum will do?
That’s a great question. Certain fish that feed primarily on shellfish it would be better to use shrimp or crab meat in the chum for sure!
Now I know why people in bikini bottom doesn't like chum :")
Haha! Planktons gunna want to get this recipe!!!
Bc it's made of fish
Run four pieces of bread thru at the end to help clean up time 👍👍🇺🇸
Oh sweet. I’ll try that!!!! Putting bread through the grinder!
I do have a chum recipe of my own and I will put it on my you tube channel and share it
I’ll check it out. Thanks
Run a loaf of bread through it after you get done running the fish right in and help clean your grinder up
nice tip! thanks
Put cotton in ..it heps hold together
Cotton? Really?!!!? That actually makes sense.
Mr krabs: 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 chum
Chum bucket all day!!!
Normally I disassemble the grinder
Agreed!!
Plankton will be proud watching this
Planktons my boy!!!! Haha!!!
I found out quick spanish sardines do not stay on a hook well.
Dude. Totally. Gotta keep them super cold - once they warm up they become mush
So thats how plankton makes chum hmmm
Oh that Plankton!
That has to be an OSHA violation 🤣🤣🤣😎 using your hands on top of the grinder
Yeah man! Wouldn’t want to spread the rona to the snapper 😂😂😂
The chum in Spongebob looks less gross than in real life
Oh baby - I’m gunna make burgers one day and try it in a video! I’ll bet they’re not too bad!
Without oats and other grain, the chum will attract sharks and other predatory fish which can spoil your day
Good call!!!
Snapper meatloaf or fishloaf.
I was thinking about making a Chum burger!!
I bet this kid watches SpongeBob pretty differently now.
Yeah man. They graduated from SpongeBob a long time ago! It’s fun and games with that now!
