    I used to get upset when I made mistakes, then I realized we're all human and that's what we do...make mistakes. I learned it's just about dealing with them and learning how to fix them. Now I expect the mistakes and welcome the challenge of making them right. That template saved you a lot of work by not having to remove the pickups...nice!👍😎🎸🎶

      We all do make mistakes. Like you said, if you learn from them it makes us better in our craft.

    Getting ready to do this with stewmac’s jig on my parts Stratocaster before the new Parklane neck goes on… thanks for the walkthrough!

    This works great. I copied your idea to deepen the pocket on a pre-painted body for a baritone build. It saved the day, thanks! 🍻

    Im really appreciating your videos. Im finally going to attempt a guitar build. I build furniture and have always wanted to complete a guitar build. I've amassed a lot of information, but the one thing I can't seem to find is what is the proper depth for the neck pocket? Are there standards per type of guitar? I plan on starting to try and make a LP-style.

    100% great idea! I'll do same tool to clean cheap guitar's pocket from paint. It should helps to increase contact surface between neck heel and neck pocket!

    • @homebuiltshop
      @homebuiltshop  4 года назад

      Oh yeah, You could also use it with a small shim to create an angled pocket fir some guitars.

    • @ivanlitvinov9917
      @ivanlitvinov9917 4 года назад

      @@homebuiltshop well you know Jeff, i afraid to make angle right in a pocket, cuz I'm not pro as you. Mistake will cost me a lot(
      So, if you can't do it precision, do it adjustable)
      That's why angle shims are safer method for guys as me)
      BTW i can't buy these stuff here in russia( so st****c neck shim + delivery + time = it cost me an arm and a leg. But i think it's possible to make a neck shim with any required angle with this your tool and/or idea)
      P.s. also i think "neck shim" could be good idea for one of your future video. Thank you in advance!

    Great jig. Better to build it once, and not need it.
    Than have to build one every time you may need one.
    Blessings to you and your family

    I have the same problem as well, with the pocket not being deep enough, on 3 bodies. What routing bit did you use on yours, that's where I am stuck at, choosing a proper bit for the job.

    You mentioned using the bearing on the router against the existing neck pocket. What kind and size bit did you use? I have this same issue and my buddy made me a plexi glass template but I also like your method.

    Seems that it would be a lot quicker just to unsolder and remove the neck pickup?

      it's possible that soldering is not his 'skill set' and he is good at woodworking. Everyone else is NOT like you are. He did it his way and was careful.

    Great video. I have found that the 5/8 inch neck pocket depth isn’t deep enough for Fender style guitars and I’ve been in this situation too

    How will lowering the neck and fingerboard relative to the ht of the bridge do anything but RAISE the string action?? I could see it if you needed to change the neck angle, but this makes no sense.

    • @homebuiltshop
      @homebuiltshop  4 года назад +2

      With the pocket too shallow, the saddles had to be raised all the way and I ran out of travel. The strings still sat on the fretboard. By lowering the neck/fingerboard I was able to set the action properly with plenty of adjustment left both up and down.
