Now gather round my special friends for the tale of when I bought a 1999 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4. I'll tell you how I almost didn't buy it and what my plans are going forward.
I also filmed some sultry drone shots of the car that the enthusiasts should enjoy.

Congrats on the purchase! The 3000gt will never be 6 figures. Not because it wasn't in the Fast and Ridiculous, but because it has a reputation of being too heavy, unreliable, and difficult to modify. Also there is little to no aftermarket support for these cars.
So if a 1999 VR4 in New Zealand Green hit bring a trailer in 10 years with 10,000 miles on it what would it bring?
@@therealjessescheel probably close to 6 figures but not quite. There isn’t much hype towards the vr-4, its a very lowkey car. Awesome yes but given it was on offer up for over 4 months sitting at $30k first, then $28k then $27k you see the demand for it isnt there. Supra and gtr had notoriety due to f2f and inital d. Culturally the vr4 has been heavily slept on and there isnt really any after market support so you rarely see those at the track.
@@Alfoboy18474 A showroom condition (168 miles) 99 VR-4 has already gotten six figures. And it has significant aftermarket support; there are built motors, transmissions, custom hybrid turbos, etc - could go on. Not to mention what the Gran Turismo series did for the 3000GT; the 99 didn't have the same hype as the Supra or Skyline but it's got more presence than a number of 90s Japanese sports cars.
The vr4 will continue to go up in price. Almost all the parts on these cars are now discontinued and will only continue to get rarer and harder to find. I own a base model and have a nightmare time finding certain parts.
Shit even the base model n mid level version R up in value. Used 2 find those for 1,500 or less now hard to find n cost 5-6k.

Picked up a minty '94 VR-4 this last summer. Can't believe how well these things are starting to appreciate in value. I wouldn't call it a good investment.. not even close. Definitely an investment in your own fun level though!

U made da right choice, but the real reason these R not as valuable as the other JDMers of 90's cuz with exception of 1999 they were all mass produced n had various model options such as base, mid level, n of course VR-4(plus Stealth model). In fact it was the most mass produced JDM of all. Even after 99 they still sold it in Japan(albeit 99 leftovers) in 2000 N 2001.

The Mitsubishi 3000gt was my first car. Now I bought the same color but vr4 this time. So I got a 95 and 97 vr4 love them. Plan on keeping them for long time.
Nice add, I've always wanted one. And the vr4 was probably the best car in Gran Turismo. I rocked a white one.

Bought my 92 rt turbo last year. This platform is one of my favorites
100% with you on that, i would much rather buy the car i want already built up and tastefully modified then go through the process of spending extra money on a car because it's completely stock, and then having to waste a bunch of time and more money to get it to how you want it. Also, definitely have a professional detail the car, it will transform the look immensely

Yeah Buddy Thanks! That would be AWESOME!! So real quick Turned out my Engine knock was a loose flexplate 🔩 that connects to the Torque Converter ( litteraly sounded like rod knock),😆 oops didn't I use Lock Tite.... 😂 Well now I did! But before discovery of the bolt I just installed a new oil pump and new rod bearings AND and now New Flexplate. Gotta ❤️ DSM!

I absolutely love it, but it's not practical for me, anymore.

@@therealjessescheel the vr4 had almost 200k miles and needed parts replaced every month. His 350z is at 200k and besides battery and brakes, has not broke down. He drives about 80 miles a day, but all freeway.

I got a super good deal on the 94 vr4 I use to own. I bought it back for $5000 and it's had a complete engine rebuild and new turbos. The build has approximately 10miles on it but the car is cosmetically challenged. I need that bumper how much would you sell it for and ship it to Southern Indiana 47586?

They are not. Dumped a lot of the tech stuff to save weight and cost in the later models.
VR4 will catch up as Supra and Evo eventually for sure.

Your VR4 has a missing cat, how do you pass smog? What are the AZ smog requirements? I live in cali and own a 91 stealth twin turbo and emissions here are unbelievably strict.
As long as you don’t have a check engine light here you can pass. My eclipse is catless and still passes.
They are such a pain to work on. Ill take a DSM any day over a 3kgt

An intercooler with intake and injectors isn't too scary IMO but to each their own. I could sell it today for pry double what I paid for it.
