  • Our 1000D Mega-Build project contains an awful lot of distribution plates that route the coolant. Alex shows you how to design a distro plate from scratch in Autodesk Fusion 360 so you can make them too!

    I'm amazed you don't have more subs. The key mirror software you have running on the bottom right is simply an amazing attention to detail that MANY people leave out when creating these tutorials. Makes it kind of hard to follow sometimes because experienced designers use keyboard shortcuts all the time.

    A distro plate would make for the perfect Fusion first project! Since drawing flat faces and then extruding them is how Fusion works, you could make one sooooooo easily! You might even be able to resin print that yourself! I've done an oil tank with integrated oil lines before, that worked a charm...

    Where you were doing the pattern. maybe try selecting by feature instead of faces. It's sometimes limiting in the number of features it can do at once but I like it because I don't have to click through the faces super carefully. Just the features at the bottom like you initially tried.

    • @bittech1
      @bittech1  5 лет назад +1

      Ahh I don’t do that on purpose as Fusion has issues with it for some reason. It quite often duplicates the entire surface the feature is set inside, which naturally causes a mess. No idea why it does it though, once that’s become stable then going by feature is the way to do it yeah, it’s how I used to do them with Inventor.

      Not a bad idea actually, although might be a while before that one comes out. In the meantime though, do you have a stock pump top of sorts? Like the sort made by EK or Alphacool etc. You can use one of those to derive all the necessary measurements and requirements for designing your own, it’s fairly simple if you have access to the information.

Can't thank you enough for making these videos and teaching us all the details. I'm a ME student wanting to make a custom hardline pc. Andrew it’s actually pretty simple math... calculate a cross-section surface of a round o-ring vs a rectangular o-ring channel. In this case you end up with roughly 10% compression.

    Hey Alex, I lovin ur video, they are very helpfull and inspiring. However, in this video here I'm still a little confused about something. You saying you use 2mm diameter Orings and recommend a channel of the size 2.2x1.3mm^2. That is the total cross-sectional area of the channel is 2,86mm^2 and of the Oring is 3.14mm^2. Sure, it results in a high pressure on ur Oring butr doesnt that cause a offset between the two plates which u can see?

I follow your steps with the offset exactly, but when I try to work off the line that has been created it is starting the screw at the top of the "base layer." Basically after creating the offset and saving that sketch, when I go to create a hole, it will start in the middle of 2 pieces of acrylic and not off the top lid face of the project. Any tips or ideas on where I am going wrong? Thanks.

    • @bittech1
      @bittech1  5 лет назад

      Sadly it’s a little specific to which machine is used at that point :/
      The way I do it is by threadmilling at the same time as cutting the holes, although I don’t know how viable this is on other machines. Higher end ones will tend to drill the holes and then rigid tap them, lower end machines you’re best off drilling and tapping by hand unfortunately, you can use a hand drill with variable torque to help with this though.

    When you are doing all of these distro plates how do you know what hole pattern you are mounting it to (when dealing with customers)? Do you pull that off that manufacturer site or have them ship you the case? I'm looking at a new corsair case and am wanting to make a custom water cooling system for it, but can't find a lot of information for interior mounting...

    • @bittech1
      @bittech1  3 года назад

      I only ever cut things that are either fully complete from others or modelled entirely myself for exactly this reason. The best way is simply to take measurements and adapt things yourself, it’s not usually very tricky as cases generally have a lot of mounting potential baked in (such as for drives or fans etc).
      You’ll find it much easier simply committing to something you like and then adapting it, rather than trying to have everything line up perfectly beforehand. Manufacturers when designing plates for systems will generally prototype a few times to work out all the kinks.

    I have just one question, why not just glue the two halves together with acrylic glue? Why even bother with a channel and O ring ? it just seems like a place to leak and their are no moving parts inside the block that you would need to open the halves up for anyways right? Acrylic glue is quite strong and water tight as this is how acrylic aquariums are built and the glue is indistinguishable from the acrylic. wouldn't that be a sick build with a distro block that seemed machined from a solid block of acrylic.

    • @bittech1
      @bittech1  5 лет назад

      Actually a lot of blocks are made like that, it’s even how I made the blocks in our Fortnite themed rig. Personally I prefer the look of the O-rings, the free floating ones tend to look a bit cheap and unfinished unless carefully themed. IIt’s also nice being able to open up a block to clean things like old coolants etc.

    ok so I manage to fix my problem with the o-ring , but if I am trying to do the offset it keeps giving me negative numbers instead of positive like your if I am trying to do the same thing as what you did, how can I change it so that when I go over the top side of the plate that it can be positive minute 5:30

    I'm pretty sure I'm doing everything you're doing, but why am I getting negative values when I offset lines in the same direction (outward) than you are?

    • @bittech1
      @bittech1  4 года назад

      That's a quirk of Fusion 360, it chooses the offset direction based on where your cursor is when you click the path. So you may need to use positive or negative values, it won't affect the sketch though so don't worry.

      @@bittech1 Thanks Alex, I appreciate it! I wasn't sure if it would affect anything later on in the process of milling everything but I'm glad it won't. :)
      Still learning and also working on building a MPCNC I'm currently printing. I'm sure you're busy, but I would love to know your opinion on this design from the Create for Curisoty RUclips channel: ruclips.net/video/wIgIz47WK7Y/видео.html
      Either way, many thanks for your help and videos. You're an inspiration for many of us in the maker community. Cheers!

    I’m currently trying to design a custom 3 way GPU bridge for my custom loop and I am having a hard time finding measurements for the inlet/outlets for the GPU water blocks. Would you be able to make a video detailing the one you made or at least post the specs o it?! Any input would be greatly appreciated!

    • @bittech1
      @bittech1  5 лет назад +1

      My advice would be to contact the manufacturer of the waterblocks and ask for exact measurements from them as they'll be able to provide concrete info. It changes from manufacturer to manufacturer so it's worth checking it up. The other method is to use some calipers and measure the distances based on real thing.

      bit-tech I’ll try and get in touch with EKWB and see if they can get me that information! I appreciate the quick response and I hope if I need any other help I can come to your channel and learn some more!

      Ayy sure thing, here to help! EK have been putting up diagrams of their newer parts recently so you should be in luck, since the terminal I made for the 1000D is for Watercool blocks it wouldn’t fit the EK ones.
