    This is first year I have decided to really make an effort to collect differently. My number 1 is to collect what means a lot to me instead of getting caught up in something that I have randomly seen somewhere. My number 2 is going through my collection and cleaning out the records that I just kind of like to make room for what I love.

    Oh how I need to listen to current records and just slow down on my buying. Reissues, when I first started collecting I told myself I was only going to buy OG pressing and well that went out the window a long time ago so I do need to do better. There are just so many great reissues but I don’t need every single one! I like your philosophy here and agree completely and basically everything! Great video and ideas!

    • @ConcertBuddie
      @ConcertBuddie  7 месяцев назад

      It’s definitely a great time for reissues, but boy oh boy are they making some of the same ones over and over again. I’ve been caught up in the wave of “don’t miss this one” or “is this the best sounding one” far too long. And listening to the actual music sometimes falls behind the actual hobby/collecting part. Gonna do better this year! Thanks for watching sir 🤘🏻

    Nice video, Chance! I haven’t been seriously collecting records for a very long time, but I feel like I went from 0-60 in record time building my collection, making plenty of mistakes along the way. I’ll continue to learn and be more selective, not buy multiple copies of records (unless my fav bands), and not impulse buy. Going to my first record show next weekend, so I’m excited about that!

    • @ConcertBuddie
      @ConcertBuddie  7 месяцев назад

      Nice Andy! Record shows can be a lot of fun. Bring cash, don’t be worried to negotiate price (worst they can say is NO), and make sure to do research on anything north of $20 before pulling the trigger. I hope it’s a fruitful expedition of wax gold! PS - bring a bag 😁

    Having done this for many years and done dozens of comparisons, I can tell you the differences are really in the margins so you're okay to stay out on the Getz/Gilberto type pressing. You don't find night and day differences in a lot of the audiophile reissues. The differences are going to be very subtle and in the margins. Especially for Jazz when the original recording was so well done to begin with anyway. This year, I will be skipping out on any new audiophile reissue I already have.

  • @Russell.S
    @Russell.S 7 месяцев назад

    Hey Chance, I started a new approach too. I try to give a critical listen on streaming to any “must have” records before pulling the trigger. basically treating the older classics the same as new artists, making sure it’s something I expect to play more than a few times. That’s not very exciting but these records take up a lot of (limited) space! Anyway good luck on your resolution and let me know if you need my shipping address 😄.

      Hahahaha. I'll keep you in mind, Buddie! I just read an email that I'm related to an Egyptian price and he died without any heirs, and I stand to inherit his COMPLETE fortune once I send a check for 200k. So you can keep ALL my records!

    Aww shit, you went Heywood Nelson on us! 😂 As always, Champ, (that wasn’t a typo) I thoroughly enjoy your offerings of humble pie 🥧. Where there is no light we cannot reflect. Your resolutions are admirable. I agree with your reissue thoughts. I will only buy reissues of very expensive OGs and difficult to find rarities. Finding 1 or 2 of the greatest sounding pressings even if they’re different pressings is where it ends for me. In a perfect world I’ll have a minty OG and a new audiophile reissue of all my favorite recordings. This year will find me downsizing my collection to one room of 28 Kallax cubes from 2 rooms and a total of 64 kallax cubes and 15 boxes of records I’ve yet to qualify into my collection. Jesus! Now I’m stressed. Maybe some therapy too 😂. Peace Buddy.

  • @lawrence5368
    @lawrence5368 7 месяцев назад

    Hey Chance great video. You know I think a lot of us are feeling the same way. For me it started out going to garage sales and estate sales finding all these awesome albums for a dollar or two. Then it was record stores and record shows. Then it evolved to ebay and online record stores, to a point I was buying a lot of these audiophile and one steps. So finally I thought this is getting out of hand. What started out as an inexpensive weekend hobby is getting to be too much. Plus you have to ask yourself, how many records is enough. How many of these am I going to play a second time. So now with these reissues, unless I hear someone say this is the best copy of this record I've ever heard, am I going to pull the trigger on. So this year it's going to be a few and far in between. I'm going to sit back and enjoy what I've collected over the forty years and stop stock piling. Also if we all stick together on this, maybe the prices will come down to a reasonable level again.

    • @ConcertBuddie

      Couldn’t have said it better myself. Very, very similar journey I took as well. At one point I was documenting the different twists in my collecting journey, because I feel like a lot of collectors walk a similar path. Have a great Sunday! ✌🏻

  • @nigelcampag1290
    @nigelcampag1290 7 месяцев назад

    I definitely need to follow your lead and invest in decent inners. I spend 100s on a sought after OG, give it a clean and stick it back in the OG inner! The UK inners from the late 60s/early 70s are often polylined so can suffer from off gasing. I've veen trying to mint up since the mid 00s. Always looking for better copies but its tough and expensive. Thankfully never gone down the reissue or audiophile route. Totally agree with you trying to travel and pick up records real world. Online buys just cannot compete with that feeling. Cheers Chance, hope you're well....Nige

    • @ConcertBuddie
      @ConcertBuddie  7 месяцев назад +1

      Buddie, we’ve got to stage an intervention for you about switching over to better inners 🤣. I wish I could say I wasn’t bitten by the Audiophile bug; while some titles have been terrific, many have been not as good as the OG or just meh (many MoFi’s on that list). One of these days I’d love to see your Discogs to see what bangers you’ve grabbed over the years. Think about it Nige. Cheers! 🍻

    • @nigelcampag1290
      @nigelcampag1290 7 месяцев назад

      @@ConcertBuddie Haha, for sure with the inners. I'd not be able to afford anymore records if I tried to resleeve all of them but I really should prioritise the more expensive ones. If I was starting a collection from scratch I'd definitely just do reissues and some audiophile pressings, makes perfect sense. My collection is logged on Discogs if you were ever that bored 😄. Cheers Nige

      Honestly, it’s not half bad. It features some members of Sinatra’s old band on accompaniment, which is neat, proceeds from the album sale benefited children with Down syndrome. It is made as a picture disc for some reason, so that’s the downside. Niche pickup, for sure. 🎺

    Less reissues for sure, again the quality control stinks. It hasn’t gotten better, it’s as bad as it ever was. Originals are the way to go, if you can’t find it immediately, you will eventually find it. Also cds are definitely making a comeback, so many great deals especially for the box sets, I much prefer to buy the cd version than a ten album set $$$😮
