- At a recent visit to the NY Auto Show it was great to see how many electric vehicles were either present or being highlighted, but right at the main entrance was the Nissan Leaf. EVs have a come a long way since the Leaf was first introduced and it's worth highlighting how many options there are currently (that were present at the show at least) and just how wide of a range they cover.

It is a fantastic time to be an EV enthusiast! I have loved seeing all the new EVs over the past couple years, and am very excited to see what's coming next!
I'm hoping for even more variety! -Travis
Really well done primer on the market, definitely holding up the high bar you and the team have set for quality content on EV Buyers Guide
Love my 2023 Chevy Bolt EV! Great city car.
That is awesome, but EUV is better in the long run for some folks having legs and wishing to ride on the rear seats.
Its discontinuation is a sad part.
It's a shame the Bolt was shelved and I've got my fingers crossed that it comes back in similar form as it left. I'll admit, I have my concerns. -Travis
@@nevco8774 I rarely have passengers, so it’s perfect for me, front seat leg room is more than enough for my 6ft frame 👍🏻
Is it officially canned? Bummer. Oh well, can’t wait for the Volt!
@@verynick it sounded like it might be getting a redesigned EUV sized version as early as the 2026 model year, but fingers crossed
Awesome video
I'd love to see a comprehensive comparison of various EVs in any given category - sedans pitted against each other, CUVs against each other, SUVs against each other, trucks against each other. Parameters, your own ratings etc.
Then I'd love to see the same in PHEVs - for those of us who are not yet ready to switch to a full EV, but PHEV is in our future for sure.
I wish they had more EVs and PHEVs at the New York show but there were quite a few examples missing. That's certainly something we can look more closely at though! -Travis
many youtubers have done this. Out of Spec Reviews. This channel has. TFLEV.
Can you explain in a video how often tires need changed because of the added weight? Thanks.
Can do! -Travis
Its (mostly) not the weight, its how they're driven. Its the quick torque that folks continue to enjoy. We have a 2017 Bolt, drive it calm, and is just now getting off its OEM original tires at 50k miles.
So many are saying that EVs are on the decline, as well as interest. I enjoyed looking at the EV models you are featuring, but I couldn’t help but notice few people attending the show. Was this before the show started as you and a few others were allowed in to view/video beforehand?
This was prior to the show being open to the public, things are often set up for media a few days in advance. -Travis
@@EVBuyersGuidethat’s what I thought. You should have mentioned that because there are a lot of EV hating morons out there that will say, “see how popular EV are. Nobody shows up to view them.” Trust me, I’ve read loads of comments made on channels that put down EVs from individuals that know nothing about them.
Great Job 🔥😊
Thanks for watching! -Travis
No small electric pickup. Come on auto manufacturers you’re missing a sales opportunity
Range concerns and battery packaging are two things I think are really holding back the small EV pickup. -Travis
Good video. A ton of options out there. I just switched from a 2019 Audi e-tron to a new (Highlander) Tesla Model 3 RWD. My e-tron was declared a total loss after a relatively minor accident. Each is very nice in its own way, with the Audi being ideal for people who want to very slowly transition into EVs (pretty much feels and drives like an insanely smooth and luxurious, but regular Audi), and the Tesla being about the polar opposite. Went with the base Model 3, because the new Model 3 comes out of the box with an insane amount of features for its price (particularly after the tax incentives if you lease), and it is insanely fun to drive.
Glad you're ok after the accident (even if the car isn't) and that you're sticking with EVs! I got to spend some time in the updated Model 3 and you're right, the base model brings a lot to the table without needing to upgrade further. -Travis
Can you create a video/podcast/livestream about the sales in May 2024 about the BEV sales vs PHEV vs HEV vs ICE the way you Trevis and Alex do the best: with numbers, comparisons, analysis and explanation of reality in this volatile market?
The main two questions:
1) Are EV sales really down Elon to fire the Superchargers team since it is no needed or it's market adjustment after insane 2022 prices?
2) When is to expected appearance on the market of EVs combining 4 main ingredients at their best: the practicality/versatility/comfort of a real car (Audi Etron), the proper software like in Tesla/Rivian or Android based Polestars, the proper charging speed like in Cybertruck or Hyundai Ioniq5 or Lucid Air, the affordable price like it was in Chevrolet Bolt EV?
Thanks for the idea, we'll take a look and see if that's something we can do. -Travis
Travis, How many New York Auto Shows do they have each year? 🤔
Just the one that I know of, this video got pushed back a bit. -Travis

i need me that ID BUZZ
They may be hard to get your hands on once they finally make it to a dealership. People have been waiting for so long I bet the waiting list is pretty substantial. -Travis
Did Ford have any vehicles there? I'm in the market for a new van and the only electric options are the eTransit and eSprinter. Benz is more efficient and has a larger battery, but is expensive and takes 12.5 hrs to charge on 240V, which is crazy. The Ford is cheaper, with a smaller battery and less range, but still almost as long to charge.
Ford had the Lightning, Mach E, and E Transit present. Depending on your use case, the charge rate might not be an issue for either van. If you use the whole battery every day and need it in less than 12.5 hours then you would run into issues. Otherwise, I can't see there being a problem. -Travis
I loved my LEAF, and still miss it. If Nissan had just refreshed it with a bigger battery, a thermal management system, and a CCS1 fast charge connector… it would STILL be the EV frontrunner. I now drive a Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited AWD, which reminds me of the LEAF, and couldn't be happier. It is a much better EV than the Model 3 I drove for 6 years after the LEAF. Good riddance to the "Tourette Syndrome" which that Tesla developed with OTA updates!
It's a shame the Leaf didn't get basic updates along the way, it would have been neck and neck with the Bolt. -Travis
How is the Leaf "a quality offering"? An opening sunroof isn't even an option in the top of the line model. And despite looking less like a wart than the first generation, it's still ugly.
Not everyone wants a sunroof, and the Leaf checks a lot of boxes without too many extras. It's a pragmatic option. -Travis
@EVBuyersGuide i foster/hospice senior hounds. Currently four, including a 12 y/o deaf plott, 10 y/o black&tan missing a front leg, 9 y/o vision impaired plott, and a 9 y/o bluetick. A sunroof and rain guards are musts for my vehicles. The sunroof and windows are open any time the dogs are inside, unless there is heavy rain or it is below freezing, and they go almost everywhere I go, so probably 80% of the time a vehicle is in motion.
Massive MISTAKE to not mention the basics for every EV. Base price/price as shown, range, tax credit status! You could have even just displayed the info next to the year/make/model info. UNBELIVEABLE MASSIVE VIDEO FAIL!!!
Where is the video that you made with that information?
