The 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S is the brand's first all-electric SUV for America, and it brings a completely different approach to the conventional notion of a "Jeep" than every other model that's come before -- especially the old-school, V8-powered Wagoneers from the 1960s. Tommy covers all the details in this hands-on video, with some help from a special guest covering the more off-road-focused Wagoneer S Trailhawk Concept!

Just love how everyone likes to call Alex when they don't get to film a car. But again he's such a good simple reviewer.
How dare you! 😂 Alex is the most comprehensive auto journalist out there.
What? Alex is incredible. He gets into the details without it being overwhelming. Especially if you are considering buying a certain vehicle, you are including his review in your decision making process.
Simple as in easy to follow. He's the non big company reviewer both car and non-car enthusiasts can recommend.
He kills me with his obsession with a frunk and extremely tight pants in-seams, I do appreciate his digestible reviews.. not too much or too little
I'm convinced they don't want to sell these vehicles anymore.
Duh... China is flooding all the markets. They can't compete. They're all luxury brands now. Selling 100k units at a paltry cpl % profit is way worse for them than selling 25k units at a 200% higher price.
Because you are intelligent.
@@niceguyrides it's amazing to me that they still haven't understood that the pricing is ridiculous. They push all this "way less moving parts" and how they are less complex than a traditional vehicle but none of that matters if it doesn't translate to the price. EVs should be cheaper than their gas counterparts. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of them but strictly from a technological and performance standpoint. Also, the convenience of charging at home on your own PV microgrid. But the dealerships need to go and the manufacturers need to sell directly to the consumer as well as drop the price to nearly half of what they are charging now. It's out of control.
@@MurseTech64 this is my thing. All Jeeps use to be trail rated. That was their identity and the 1st EV they come out with will be crap off-road. They are still engineering EVs like ICE cars… it is 100% lazy and boring. And they have old charging tech in them….. you can sell a 75000$ SUV, but it needs to be good. This is not good.
If they came out with a jacked up hot hatch EV, they would sell thousand of them.
This design is very much like the Ford Mach-E. They had the Mustang name and instead of making an amazing revolutionary Mustang, they turned it into an SUV. lol Who is making these decisions. EV’s sell… just look at Tesla, but they have to be good.
@@niceguyrides I agree with you. They really need to completely rethink the way they are designing transport. We no longer need to have the engine up front or if they are designing transport.
And on your point about the off-road capabilities, I completely agree. The battery electric motor setup is way more capable than having to rev an engine with transfer cases and differential locks, and I totally dropped the ball.
Nobody takes new Grand Cherokees or Wagoneers off road. I think Tommy over stressed the lack of off roadness of this car. Like most Jeeps, it’ll spend its days going to Whole Foods.
Sitting in a garage when it rains or snows!😉🤣
should have been a chrysler, or dodge, they need to stop badging everything a jeep, waters down the core brand
@@kylevngrp5340
What, you don't want Jeep to have their own luxury brand?
Here's the thing, its not a question of what owner do. Rather, is the vehicle capable if they did. ALL Jeep ICE vehicles are capable to some degree. Including the ICE Wagoneer. However, this EV is not in any way an off-road capable vehicle at any level. Its just a Jeep branded EV.
@@krane15 It's now called a Wagoneer, not Jeep
I think a lot of companies are pricing themselves into a pickle. This won’t produce a high volume of sales. Even the newest model Grand Cherokee has shown people won’t pay that much for a 4xe.
Just getting the subsidies from the government. They know these won't sell
Why not
EV are on average $2000 more expensive than their ICE counterparts. The fact that you don't have to stop at the gas station is what makes them so appealing, and worth the added cost.
Omg a premium EV SUV 😮
Finally an option in this segment 😅
Hmm, I thought BMW and Mercedes as well as Genesis all have EV SUV. And they're definitely marketed as luxury EVs.
@@hvu6037 I think you missed my ironic tone 😄
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That company no longer knows what they are!!!
I think Stellantis is missing the mark on a vehicle like this. Should have used their Chrysler badge to build a luxury suv/road cruiser.
It's like Tommy forgot about all the various Grand Cherokee models when saying he was struggling to see the Wagoneer S in a showroom next to a Compass and Wrangler. This is very much in line with those.
The new Wrangler has become a rich persons toy anyway.
Why are they calling it a Wagoneer when it's a Grand Cherokee?
OMG keeping all those screens smudge free ahhhhhhh
Dude. It sucks. I have a 22 Grand Cherokee with the passenger screen, so there are only 3 screens, and it sucks. Especially with all the piano black plastic around them all... Smudge CITY!
Ha, totally correct. This is not for the OCD car owner
What ever happened to the Jeep Recon? Wasn’t that announced before this thing as the first all electric Jeep?
I think the rear spoiler is mostly there to give the vehicle the appearance of having a squarer rear while still allowing most of the air to flow down over the sloped hatch.
Alex is just top notch on delivering the facts and his impressions in a short amount of time cutting out bullshit. Great cooperation!!
Saw myself at @9:26 😄Love those red seats
That rear wing will be real fun in a car wash… it’s also kinda funny that the Nissan Ariya has 1.5 more inches of ground clearance than this Jeep.
It making it clear with no pretense. That's a good thing when it wears the Jeep badge.
It might be the first in the US, but the Jeep Avenger was and still is the first one in the world.
The entire wagoneer lineup I think was doa. The move would have been to be premium yet under cut Tahoe & Yukon. Its future if any is to exist in the space Lincoln occupies which is Lease only & rental fleets.
Awesome. Another car that no one can afford
Chinese car cheap.. to luxury.. more competition better. Cars in the west are overpriced its about time
Why should they make a car that everyone can afford when, to stay in business, they need to make a car that some people can afford while still remaining profitable?
jeep and christler hasn't built affordable vehicles for decades. What's the surprise here?
Tommy, a fully loaded Model Y Performance loaded today, release of this video 05/30/24, is $55,490 w/o tax credit and $41,990 with EV tax credit. You said $65,000.
Don't expect tfl to get absolutely anything tesla correct lol
Thank you for saying this, I was going to. As I own a 2024 Model Y Performance ($55k)
Also, 0-60 is about 3.5 seconds in the model Y performance. So that jeep will be very competitive with it.
Is that with every option ticked?
Model Y is old looking at this pointand built by a bigoted mad man. Hard pass.
It's about $10K less than I was expecting, especially considering that Grand Cherokee 4XE's regularly get into the 70's and you generally pay a premium for the BEV version of a vehicle.
These won’t sell below 90k
Lookin' sharp, Tommy! Yeah, I don't see many folks buying these right now, but great review!
Jeeps are not moving very well now at the dealers. There is an abundance of Jeep products at surrounding dealerships around me. Looks cool, but I am just not sure how they are going to do.
They are too expensive honestly
No EVs are selling that well really.
Jeep seems to think they’re a luxury brand and are asking luxury vehicle prices.
Absolutely very honest review. Thank you for calling out the concerns
The rear spoilers remind me of the Merkur Xr4ti I owned in the 80s!
That's what I thought, I dig it.
Just as Mustang owners (I owned a '67 and a Coyote) feel nothing for the Mach E, Jeep owners might call a pass for this.
Just like that, it’s possible it’s Jeep trying to grab more segments.
Why not go after Subaru buyers?
Weird comparison. Jeep isn't trying to use a sports car brand on an EV.
Tommy, I am glad that they are selling this at the regular Jeep dealers. Had they built out their own dealer and service network for a Wagoneer brand, that would have cost hundreds of millions (if not more), and this vehicle would have $15k added to its price..
My 23 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, stickers at 61,000. I leased it and recieved almost 14,000 off the sticker price. Never thought possible, but I got 1,000 miles on 18 gallons of fuel. I charge mostly at home, I pay .067 per kWh ( I shop every three months))
6:00 I appreciate the 2 towhooks in the rear! 6:29
This is the track hawk replacement I can’t believe they had the nerve to put the track hawk in the commercial next to this
Up to 300 miles of range on the base $72k model so really like 270 real world. So @ 90% charge down to 10% you will get closer to 190 miles real world.
Slow fast charging, Level 2 charging 7 hours 😳
Interesting look. Doing math in my head, sounds like just over 150kwh DC fast charge speed. Thanks for the great video!
Looking 👀 good in the suit lol love your videos Tommy!!!
Looks like a Cherokee ad a baby with the cadillac lyriq
Nah baby Lyriq is the Cadillac Optiq. 👀
Agreed the styling is definitely not Jeep and looks heavily inspired by Cadillac especially around back. This doesn’t look like a Jeep because it can’t if it’s gonna compete with a Mercedes EQS or Cadillac Lyriq. Stellantis is crazy if they think this and flush mounted Jeep logos is the answer to those models.
I’d be a buyer at around $40,000. I mean, what exactly is it offering that’s so great?
Looking sharp Tommy. The Mrs must be dressing you now.
Looks like an on-road 2022 Chevy Blazer.
Loved the trailhawk version
Looks pretty cool, but Jeep seemed to have done the same mistake as Ford did with naming the Mustang Mach-E. This vehicle seems too small to be called a Wagoneer.
I think the names are just names. They have no correlation with the size of the vehicle and what it should be. The key thing is to not make it confusing by naming it something too similar with other models that can be confusing to non-car people.
You're kidding, right? The Mach E is the second best semi in EV in it's class, just behind the Model Y. Owners are equally enthusiastic about it, and it's a very successful EV. I find the outrage over the Mustang name badge ironic since the original Mustang had a gutless six cylinder engine and handled like a dump truck. It was intended to be "cute" so young women would buy it. The Mach E honors the Mustang name going into the future. That can only be a good thing.
@@GeeDeeBird To me it would just make more sense to name it a Mustang if it had 2 doors, but it's just a name. The vehicle itself is a very good EV in general from what I've been reading/watching online. Some might have a bias because it is assembled in Mexico, but since the 2023 model year, quality reports have been good.
@@bigheadrec Sorry. Lost in the hyperbole was my point that it was, in my opinion, a brilliant branding strategy that lifted the Mach E into prominence, gave it recognition, and created instant interest among a large group of consumers.
Loving that red interior
Um model y performance Y is only 52k not 64 so not even close in price
Love this Jeep don't think I will ever be affording one.
20-80% with a vehicle that has 105KWh battery is pretty good It would indicate a peak charge rate over 200KW. And 7 hours in a 105KWh battery pack indicates something close to a 15KW (64A) L2 charge rate which is also pretty good. Pricing wise it seems to compete with a higher featured Cadillac Lyriq. Honestly not a bad offering from Jeep but not fantastic either.
They couldn't do it as a separate brand because they want to sell it in Europe. So they'd have to spend a lot of money on PR to get the public to even acknowledge that something like this exists and why. Stellantis already has 10 active brands here (11 if you include Vauxhall from the UK, which is Opel on the continent).
13:50 ahhh, disappointed in the frunk capacity. Was hoping to see a cavernous one like the Ford Lightning. Surprising how no manufacturer has caught on that the frunk is the main feature that makes the Lightning attractive for most. Wagoneer is still a nice BEV with good range.
I agree with the comment about the rear not really looking like anything resembling a JEEP. The rear looks like a Toyota/Lexus which isn't bad but if I'm buying a JEEP, I want Jeep looking design. I like all the displays and layout of the dash. I hate gigantic tacked on center mounted tablets like on Teslas.
Jeep should have put the Recon on the market first. I drive a Wrangler but want a full electric off-road vehicle. I may purchase a Rivian since Jeep put out a sedan/crossover rather than a raised all-electric Jeep.
The tech is what we’ve already seen in the WAGONEER.
The question is how does this Jeep fit into your routine. Jeep owners aren’t used to public charging.
What’s it like to daily drive?
Looks actually and good and sounds promising but in order to prove its worth you gotta face it head to head with the Hummer EV which is the industry standard and the one to beat.
I have a feeling stellantis is taking Jeep the wrong way 🤦
Electrification is a governments mandate, not a choice. Just so its clear.
@@krane15 I wasn't talking about electrification....
@@krane15see what happens to your brain when you watch Fox Entertainment all day and call it “news”…come back to planet earth.
You clean up nice Tommy!
Stellantis is def going to losing $$$ per unit they sell if they are selling it at 71k
Why these new SUVs are all so low(not enough head space inside)? Aerodynamics most likely, but they are sacrificing headspace for that?
Yeah Tommie....a suit jacket!
I see Jeep has now thrown it's hat into the EV game with yet another not-quite-crossover tallish hatchback thing. It seems nobody except Rivian and GMC (and just now Mercedes) are willing to make an actual SUV/crossover body style. I suspect the majority of the players are all trying to game the efficiency and range numbers by maximizing aerodynamics instead of making more energy efficient running gear and larger batteries.
Jeep has the Recon coming out this year I think. It is like a Wranglerish EV.
Frankly unless it’s 45k Jeep should drop it right now and not waste resources on another mach e/ ocean/ lyric
I think this one would be just right at $45k. No idea why they think a midsize 2-row SUV is worth $70k.
I'm confused why you say the acceleration isn't model y performance territory... It's actually a 10th of a second quicker.
Love the steering wheel and the dashboard setup. But what confuses me is the size. The name Wagoneer suggests it should be a full size SUV but this feels more like the Grand Cherokee size wise. Why wouldn’t they market it as an all electric GC? That said the design cues of the TrailHawk concept are cool and would sell. I just don’t get why Jeep is targeting luxury buyers. Their niche is off-road.
Where is the Jeep Forward Control EV, it would make so much sense, with no ice, packaging would be easy.
Wait! So, there's no plug-in for my margarita blender?
Actually, the fairly straight, horizontal, lines along the side really do say "Jeep" to me.
105 kWh battery is huge! And that Jeep has to be doing 4mi per kwh
So, more a Chevy Blazer EV SS or previous-gen GC Trackhawk fighter, with NO air suspension and a smaller wheelbase vs the Blazer EV (yes, I know the Blazer EV or previous-gen GC Trackhawk didn't offer air suspension), but the previous and current-gen did and do, yes, it has a front trunk, they should’ve really just called it Grand Cherokee S (S standing for sports coupe) because it looks like a Grand Cherokee Coupe, will it sales, maybe to those that want GC Trackhawk 0 to 60 performance which the new-gen GC has yet to offer, wondering why it doesn’t have the same wheelbase as the 2-row GC, yes, I know it’s on a dedicated EV platform supposedly, but that rear seating legroom looks a little tight
Absolutely agreed. There’s no reason to buy this over the original Chevy Blazer SS it’s trying to be. Funny how Jeep thinks they have to pretend to be a luxury brand in order to attract buyers. That’s going to be a mess for them.
😂Interesting power button 12:03 😂😂😂! Why the mf 20 inch wheels tho?😮😮😮
Jeep Missed the mark, it should have been a direct Model Y competitor, considering the size and charge speeds. This needs to be MAX money $55k all in with all of the fancy doo dads. Otherwise folks will still gravitate too the Model Y’s proven platform.
There’s no need to choose this over a Model Y or Blazer EV.
To me this seems like a grand Cherokee that they slapped the wagoneer badge on to add 20k to the cost....
The dealership will jack another $5-10k on top of that
More like 5-10k discounts because they won’t be able to get rid of them
@@ValkenDnBaside from the tax credit, there will be no discounts on this because they already can barely afford to sell it at $65k.
Why does it have less ground clearance than my 2008 2WD Patriot did? 😂😂😂😂 10:30
Only 400 pounds lighter than a Cybertruck is pretty bad but I like the physical buttons
400? You mean 100 as the Cybertruck is 6,600 lbs.
@@boostav I thought they said the Wagoneer S was 6,500 lbs. Cybertruck I think is about 6,900. Either way I think it's crazy how much these EVs weigh.
@@cap10newport95 That's the tri motor version, the dual motor Cybertruck is 6,634.
If thay make Jeep compass ev 300hp 300 mile will be amazing 😍
Of course they did the wagoneer first. EVs are a rich person's toy right now. With the wagoneer tag, they can charger upwards of 100k for it. (I have not finished the video yet so I don't know the real price)
This is how all technology progresses!
72k
@@battousaihimura starting. As shown probably $90k
Cool video Tommy. New and preproduction things are exciting even if I prefer fossil fuels for the foreseeable future.
This should be called an Imperial.
The commentary about it not being on par with the Tesla performance vehicles is a bit of a miss. Of course not a Model X "Performance" (which is just the Plaid at this point, completely different league); but this vehicle was specifically benchmarked and built to go head-to-head with the Model Y Performance. It even beats it to 60. So how exactly is it not comparable to that vehicle?
I have a 22 Grand Cherokee L, and I have to say I totally disagree with you on most of this. The JEEP brand is not ONLY the Willy's Wrangler. They're allowed to pivot and chase different markets. I think it's kinda cool that someone can go to a CDJR dealer and have such a wide variety of options. All the way from a minivan to sports cars to crossover SUVs to EVs to trucks to hard-core offroaders to crazy luxurious SUVs. My Grand Cherokee is just a limited. I have the 20" black wheels, the tech stuff, so it has the passenger screen and even the base offroad modes. I'm not gonna take it crawling through the Rubicon trail, but I have taken it out on the beach in NC, and it did GREAT. It also handles the snow in my area pretty great. For the average person. Softcore offroad capable suvs are a great option. This vehicle would be perfect. If it were priced better... That's one thing I do agree with. It's basically just an EV baby Grand cherokee. The prices should reflect that better. It's not some ultra luxurious suv.
The reason Tommy brought that up is because Jeep built their reputation as a common man brand that offer a
product for a niche market. Now that has changed when Jeep decided to go upscale and charge luxury prices. It will impact its reputation when it tries to cater to a market that is already saturated. I’m sorry but when most people budget 60k,70k, 90k on a luxury SUV, Jeep is not a thoughtful consideration as its does not possess the prestige of the already established brands like Mercedes Benz, BMW, Cadillac for example.
You’re clearly one of the few that’s drinking the Stellantis coolaid, but I’ll try to explain it to you anyway. Just because you’re “allowed to chase” other markets doesn’t mean you’re supposed to. Every market isn’t for every brand to chase which was the entire purpose of a multi-brand corporation or parent company with subsidiaries separately functioning underneath to chase different markets. Thats why it’s Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep. Their brands just lost their meaning.
Their dealerships offer such a wide variety of products but none of them are dominating in their respective classes. Think about that. It’s because the brands have lost their meaning and Stellantis is lazily surviving off incredibly high profit margins so that they don’t have to be the top pick or sell as many cars to be in as good a position as the next automaker.
Unfortunately, trying to turn Jeep into a luxury brand will never work. No matter how many badges they hide or logos they pretty up, it’ll still read Jeep and _that_ brand already has a meaning to U.S. consumers. Instead of investing the money into Chrysler and taking it upmarket, they try to profit off the Jeep name in this way. The same Jeep Grand Wagoneer interior in every “luxury” product isn’t game changing nor “crazy luxury” to anyone spending $100,000. They’re everyday run of the mill Jeeps stuffed with real leather massaging seats, but Jeep will *never* be a Maybach competitor.
Give me 400 miles of range as initially promised and I will buy it.
So tech spec-wise it is worse than Tesla Y first released in Q1 2021. So this Jeep is basically 4 years late. I'm not sure it will sell well.
Air suspension? Looks neat overall, but lots of things to keep many away still...
Launching with CCS is wild, it's launching too late to not have NACS integrated. I don't think this is that crazy for a premium Jeep.
I can’t stop thinking about that off center jeep logo. Why does that bother me so much!??
First impression? Why the long nose overhang?
6,500 lbs? That's insane, a Cybertruck is 6,600 lbs.
It's mostly battery weight in both vehicles.
@@volvo09 So what, the Cybertruck has a much bigger battery on top of being almost 3ft longer and sporting stainless steel bulletproof panels.
@@boostav the panels are just glued onto a regular unibody constructed vehicle though, so it's a lot of "empty space". The cybertruck is kind of light actually, at least compared to the few trucks I have in my head, it's lighter than a rivian and the GM trucks.
I like the trailhawk concept, but still not close to my price range. Honestly I just want a Jeep XJ revival.
Really good video, but honestly... Jeep is failing here.
They should have bench marked the Rivian R1S or the Hummer.
This is a total swing and a miss 😲
Why the Wagoneer branding if not wagoneer sized? This is one expensive model Y... You can get a Rivian R1S for the same price and much more room
Love when you guys partner with Alex!
I mean...it's kinda cool
Lets be honest here. This is the Grand Cherokee SRT Trackhawk replacement but with a Wagoneer badge slapped on it.
The wing is cool. Glad they are adding something cool.
If they were going to call it a Wagoneer, should have done 3 rows and a bit larger. This doesn’t provide anything enticing over a Mach-E or Y
13:00 why’s that so shallow? 😂😂😂13:24
Just before Covid, I was ready to buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 with just two options: a Trail Rated off road package including two speed transfer case and skid plates for $1,695 and a tow package including self leveling rear suspension for $795. Total MSRP about $35,000. Now, you cannot buy a Trail Rated Grand Cherokee unless you start with the $60,000 Overland trim. F*&! Jeep.
Great video Tommy 👍
So does this mean there's competition coming for tesla?? or... no?? They'll use nacs yesno?
I like that it doesn’t like an EV
Looks nice but still waiting for the Rivian R2. This one is hard to beat
My Outback has higher clearance 5” I don’t know
So we will be getting a "Trailhawk" that is not trail rated and instead is capable of traversing sand???
It also lacks a spare tire and due to the sloped rear glass, it won't hold boxy items in its much more limited storage area. I heard nothing about towing, but I doubt it will be over 5,000 lbs and might only be 3,500 lbs.
The gamble is whether Jeep can attract enough new buyers to replace all of the long time Jeep buyers who will move on to a real suv with suv capabilities?
That's not a Jeep, that's a Chrysler with the Jeep badge
Guess selling units don't matter anymore.
JEEP - Just Empty Every Pocket
We currently have 3 Jeeps in our driveway.
A 21 Grand Cherokee L Limited.
A 16 Grand Cherokee Limited.
And a lifted 08 JK Wrangler.
This… doesn’t appeal to me.
Take away the wheel arches and the simulated 7 slot grille and you could easily mistake this for a Toyota or Mazda or something.
Good luck with those grand Cherokees. Have made a fortune working on those generation years since they are designed to constantly fail
