Great comparison! Own the T200, Srixon, and Ping i530. Have hit all the rest, with the exception of the Callaway. 7 iron swing speed is 82-83. To underscore the degree of subjectivity that these tests always entails, T200 is my least favorite. Srixon is great, Mizuno are most attractive, Cobra does feel great. I also like the PXGs. Current playing the Pings. One thing to keep in mind-if you’re playing a club like Ping, you need to play a high spin high flying ball, a la Pro V1x, PXG, Vice Pro Plus, etc. Can get 5-10 feet more elevation that way, with concomitant improvement in landing angle and spin. All in all, one of the better tests on this category of clubs. You have a new subscriber!
I tried pretty much all the above and walked away with the ZX5, very happy with them and hit them the best out of the group. I love these sort of tests around the 80-84mph range for a 7 iron, its very representative of a lot of golfers. Greta video pal
Got fitted into the Cobras earlier this year, similar swing speed to the test. Tried Titleist,, Mizuno HM Pro, Srixon, TM and the Cobras were the best for me by a mile. I’m quite high launch and spin so they did a great job of lowering both. Went with KBS Tour Lite Stiff shaft, which I also love. Great review, only thing I would have liked is maybe an ‘honourable mention’ in each category and overall. Dunno why, though!! 😁
I have the newest Cobra Forged Tec single length irons. I own lots of various high end Japanese brand irons but these quickly became my favorites. Broke 70 twice for the first time ever within one month of gaming these. I can’t imagine ever going back to anything else.
Actually this test mirrors my findings very well. Ping launch too low with minimal spin. While P790 and T200 launch spin spot on. I would happily take 5 less yards.
I’ve tried all of these, you fitted me into the 790’s and was verging on 770, glad i went for the 790 as already dropped 5 shots on my handicap, back to mid single figures despite my age. It wasn’t just the club, it was your shaft fitting, going back to steel and slightly heavier has improved my distance and dispersion. So, getting a good fitting is most important, which ever of these you chose.
That's the best thing about getting fitted, a lot of the time one will stand out head and shoulders for some people for absolutely no reason . On a robot there would be nothing between them, but in the hands of a reactive human some of them can be so much better than others 👌 why everyone should test them all
It's amazing how you can swing so consistently using a swing significantly different than your own natural swing - both path and speed. I hit a lot of those clubs before finally deciding on the T200's. I really like them....just need to be able to play more is all!! Great review - you're putting out great content, don't be discouraged....it's one of those if you build it - they will come sort of things. Once you reach a certain size I think it affects the algorithm and your videos show up to more people and the snowball picks up speed.
Great review mate, I've watched it 3 times now. I think the point you make about it's down to the individual is spot on. I've had two sessions trying to find the right club and tried most of these and ended up with the p790's. There was very little between the titleist, mizuno and TM but came down to feel and what suited my swing. Yes they are all expensive but I'm not the sort that buys new clubs every other year so to me money well spent. Thanks for your efforts.
I have owned the T200s, PXG 0311P Gen 6, 2023 P790s, and the Mizuno Pro 245s. I wish I had started the year with the 245s; I would have saved much money😂. I was fitted for all four sets, and the Mizuno set is perfect for my game and ability as an 8.5 handicap.
In my top three channels for fair and accurate data, along with Jay at AskGolfNut and Ian and Mikey at TXG. Always appreciate you chipping some 7-irons out there 150 for us mere mortals, Russ! I have Titleists in the bag right now, a blend of 620MB, T150, and T200. The T200 5-iron surprised me. First it felt pretty good. It feels and sounds LOADS better off grass than inside off a mat. It also goes fairly high (for me) and spins and stops decently. I'm right at that speed where on paper I really shouldn't even be using a 5-iron, because I'm low 80s with 7-iron and only up to mid/high 80s with 5-iron - sometimes touching 90/91. But you just can't beat a long iron for punch escapes and hitting funky little low hooks and draws into the wind. And off the tee it's plenty easy to get it high enough to stop. Well... if it's a back pin...and a slow green. Ha!
Yeah, I’ll second that. There are some channels you just don’t want to skip a single video. This is one such channel. Doing a great job Ross, keep it going mate! 💪
Great vid. I tested the t150 and t200 irons before getting a fitting and I actually ended up with t150 up to 6 iron and a t200 5 iron just for that bit of extra forgiveness in the top end of the bag. Love them so far and I’m looking to book in with you to get a proper gapping session done to make sure the fitter did his job properly!
Well done swinging at 80, it's so much more relatable for the clubs being used. You mention that for even slower swings 70-75 you'd recommend a more lofted option, my swing is in that lower speed range but my delivery and strike point is pretty good. 3.5 to 4 down, fraction in to out, club face angle square or slightly open, slight draw spin. If you do a 70-75 mph video I imagine you'd be demoing the HL models, if that video does take place would you mind also hitting a couple of more traditional lofted compact models as well. (primarily without the off set). Thanks and well done again. (just subscribed, thought I had already but have done so now).
Titleist also has a bunch of shafts options stock if you order from them. They provide a fitting off real grass at a real range , I like this. I own the mizuno 225 , I like the graphite shaft option they offered in 2022 compared to titleist . My battle that year was the srixon and the mizuno , they had the steel fiber shaft stock. The mizuno won on looks and I LOVE them , they also hold up to abuse very well. Great content , keep up the good work !
Yeah to be fair most have a great range of stock shafts nowadays. Srixon probably one of the only ones that don't have too many options but they are still great clubs. Yeah Titleist do offer that but as far as I'm aware the only place you can do that is Woburn and it's £500 for the fitting so that's a lot of dollar 😂 but it is an unreal facility there. And yeah the Mizunos are lovely clubs
At first, i was crazy with the p790 then i tested the mizuno iron, wow i was surprised enough. The feel and accuracy don't lie. Mizuno irons will stay in my golf bag for very very long time.
Another great video. Kind of weird how different they all are but at the same time so similar. The P790 seemed to give the best launch, spin and tightest dispersion but didn't win a single category.
I fully understand that you can't test everything, but I think an omission on this comparison would be the PXG Gen 7 P. Really good looks, good feel, and good performance. T200 is a solid choice though, and you've got the added advantage of being so easy to blend with the 150 or the 300. I haven't hit the Ai200 yet, but I didn't like the feel with the Ping i530 and was disappointed with the lack of distance I experienced with the ZX5. Currently game the 790.
Great test as always. The i530 is also offered in retro loft. Have you tried these to see if they address height/spin issues. I have JPX921 forged with graphite shafts. They are amazing when i am playing well…… i tried standard loft i530 the other day and found them so easy to hit and so straight, i’m a little bit in ❤
My go to channel for reviews. All of these clubs I would game with. I agree the mizuno pro 245 is my best for looks but would always depend on what suits your game. Would be keen to come to your studio for a full fitting. HCP is 15.2 and play pxg 0211xcor 2 105stiff. Fitted 2 years ago. How do the pxg compare to the clubs you tested?
Thanks Neil, glad you like the channel. And tbh I haven't hit those so can't really comment. But id put those irons in the game improvement category as they are super strong in the loft. So these would be the next category up really so the main thing would be a higher ball flight with all of these vs yours
Your videos are amazing! The fact you have videos with swing speeds like us mortals is outstanding. To gain more subscribers you might want to reach out to Shiels, Robinson, and Finch and have them do some “celebrity” spots with you. I was also thinking of famous British actors who play golf and have them in for a fitting. Cheers!
Had P790 for 3 years, Don't think there is anything out there that is different enough to make a significant improvement worth £1000 for a new set. So will be keeping mine for a while yet! Good video though, very informative,
Been fitted and playing the Cobra Forged TecX for the year and am totally disappointed with distance, feel and forgiveness. Changed shafts still w no success. Back to my old Speedblades but will consider Takoma, Maltby, and even Costco (great no risk return policy)
Great video . I had a fitting recently and after hitting a lot of irons , the fitter recommended the T200 would be best for me . We went with a blended set . Should be with me in around a month
I honestly thought you were going to say the Cobra tec for best overall. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these, myself just ordered the ping i530.
I guess with everything so close in performance, it just comes down to preference. Which makes me wonder what it'd of been like if you'd thrown a Takomo in there. At pretty much half the price to any of the others you tested. Good video.
Yeah if you've got irons of a similar design at a similar loft there's only going to be one outcome, overall the performance will be similar. So yeah Takomo would be the same.
What would you fit someone in that has reasonably quick speeds (118-124mph driver speed) and is a mid to highish handicap 15-22. Game improvement has jacked lofts and you mention these aren't made with players with higher speed hands that dont have trouble getting the ball up.
I did a Titleist iron fitting at my local club not so long ago. The outcome was T150 with Tensei Red shafts. But can I rely on that recommendation given the test was done with Pro V1x balls and my swing speed with a 7 iron I only 75mph? I prefer a softer ball and play Taylor Made Tour Response. Wondering if the club specification recommended would have been different if the fitting had been done with ball more similar to the ball I use. ProV1x is too hard for me
Realizing that there are so many irons in this category, how do you think the p770 compare to the p790 in this category? I’ve had recommendations to try the p770 from a couple of friends but have not yet been fitted
Well in all honesty the only reason the P770 isn't in this category is obviously loft. But in my honest opinion the forgiveness difference between the 770 and 790 is nothing so all it really comes down to is ball flight. 790 being stronger in loft will launch lower and spin less and the 770 will launch higher and spin more. So just depends what you need
A lot of these models are popular as driving irons. Are any of them construction wise more durable than others? I know the P790 has issues with face durability when swinging it in 120mph area
No I don't think so in all honesty. All constructions like this will have issues at some point. I've seen all brands have issues and wouldn't say one is worse than the other
10000% in an actual fitting scenario one of these clubs could stand out head and shoulders for someone above the rest. I'm just trying to be as impartial as possible and test them all with a similar swing to see how they really compare. But yeah always get fitted as they may look super close but it may not end up that way in a proper fitting. I find it all the time when people click with heads so much better than others for no apparent reason.
I was fitted and own the T200s and hate them…feel and sound is just unbearable for me…I wound up going with the T150s instead, but also own MP 243s and Miura KM700s. Give up a tad of distance and forgiveness with the T150s, but not much, and they feel 100% better…I prefer a smaller headed iron, to the T150s are great for me…I also own a set of Miura IC 602s which are absolutely brilliant too, but not a mainstream iron…now that I see what I wrote, time to start getting rid of some sets! LOL…I actually have my son use the T200s and my wife uses the IC 602s…I have yet to like the 243s and keep tinkering with shafts and weights on it to see if I can dial it in…hard not to like MIzunos.
I’m fairly high handicap (26) and in cobra dark speed which my peers tell me are too low launch and too hot for me swinging with 125-130mph 7 iron ball speed. I’ve only been playing a few months and was advised to get something like a t150-t200 combo to grow into, thoughts?
125 - 130 ball speed is quick for a 7 iron. 126/127 is PGA Tour Average for a 7 iron so you are right up there. So yeah I'd agree you probably should be in mage strong lofted irons. But which irons you should be fitted into depends on you delivery. Speed is only a small factor to consider. So just gotta get fitted properly 👌
I prefer a solid soft feeling forged iron. I tried the T200 and it was very clicky and cheap sounding. It also has a plastic infill which looks and feels Cheap..Good vid, but clicky sounding irons are not for me.
I always find it interesting that you talk about not fitting people with high swing speeds into GI irons and that you fit the player. I’ve struggled to find an answer to this question. What catagory of iron would you fit somebody into with a 90mph 7 iron swing and inconsistent strike. Would you say it’s better to buy GI irons and have them delofted? I find there’s not a lot of info out there for faster swingers that don’t have consistency of strike. Most fitting videos presume if you swing it quicker your handicap is single digits
You answer your question in your first statement. You fit the player into the clubs that best suit their delivery, regardless of handicap. Don't get too hung up on thinking you need GI irons because of the forgiveness, they are no more forgiving that any of the "players irons" just get fitted and get the clubs that give you the best numbers, performance, ball flight, gapping etc ,👌
@@epgolfstudios I’d be really interested to see you fit somebody of that profile. Watching your fitting videos has become an obsession of mine, it’s so interesting to watch and I really respect your honesty and impartialness with all the people you fit. Keep up the great work and the best of luck to you and the channel
Definitely interested in this too. I’m a tall 15 HCP with a 92-94 7 iron (+1 inch) using T300s. I get along with them pretty well, but I’m a “picker” with shallow AoA (about 1 down for 7 iron and 2 down for wedges). I sometimes wonder if my thin misses and overdraws could be helped with a thin soled/low bounce club. Also while the forgiveness is good on T300 it feel like they have frequent “jumpers” if I catch them right. I also struggle from the rough when I get steeper, but I can’t tell if it is my swing or the rough catching the club.
Thanks berto, appreciate that mate and I'm glad you like the videos 👌 and even though I do appreciate you watching them there's only ever going to be on outcome to trying to figure out what you should play....and I think you know what that is....💪👌
Hey Charles, unlikely the sole profile will have any effect on your thin shots tbh mate I'd say just need to work on the delivery on that one. Yeah the front to back dispersion with those irons is always worse especially if you have speed. You just don't need strong lofted distance irons. Chances are you would be better off with something like a ZX5/ZX7 or possibly even like a T150
@@epgolfstudios How would you compare Srixon ZX4 Mk2 to JPX923 HM pro? Are they in a different category in your opinion? I realise the best option is a fitting, which I have done. I wasn’t hitting it well so had to back a 2nd time 🤪
I think if you've watched the video you'll be able to answer that 😂 but no we don't do them. Stopped a while ago as now they kinda just gone Director to Consumer and doing their own thing so will let them do that
Possibly I don't know if any other fitters round here that sell them. I know others have tested them like TXG but again don't think they actually sell them
You focus so much on the spin and height but the Apex stops quicker and flies further and stops quicker than all the others. If this is the case then height and spin are not the be all to end all.
You can’t take much notice of total yardage on here as there’s too many variables to take into account. On a completely level playing field if a ball flies lower and have less height and less spin it will always take longer to stop
That won't be their fault in all fairness, they will be waiting on components that will be on back order, either shafts or grips. If they have all the components Ping turn around custom orders in around 3-4 days and are actually one of the quicker ones in all honesty
@@epgolfstudios appreciate the hard work it takes to get us informed to make a proper decision. I’m not nagging just hardly see them invited to the table that’s all.
Why doesnt anyone test clubs throughout the set, amd instead of replicate a machine hitting shot after shot with the same swing speed and specs, work the ball and report on how easy or difficult it is to do? If these videos were important they'd be done on a machine with the exact same swing and then this could concentrate on feel.
Would be too expensive to have clubs throughout the entore set in all of these different irons. Even just having a long and short iron in each would be to expensive with how much we would make back on the video. Not only that the video would be much longer and people already maon that my vids are too long. And in terms of workability thats down to the player not the club, if you're a decent player you can work any club. It would be good to use a machine tbh but we definetley can't affors one of those
That's brilliant means they are probably a good fit for you. I'm certainly not saying that they can't have stopping power it will of course just come down to your delivery 👌
I think he said he was changing the delivery to mimic those who these would suit eg the aoa. Maybe that’s why??? I would swing with the club landing on my head if I got the results this got 😂
Yeah it sounds like someone's a bit jealous doesn't it 👀😂😂😂 and you are exactly right my normal swing is 10-15 mph quicker than this so this is like me trying to swing in slow motion. And I do that as people just moan if I'm hitting these irons 200 yards 😂

Great video . I had a fitting recently and after hitting a lot of irons , the fitter recommended the T200 would be best for me . We went with a blended set . Should be with me in around a month
Nice! Blended set with the 150s?
We went with t200 7 to Gw and 6&5 iron in T350 .
@@epgolfstudiosWhich iron seemed more forgiving to you? T150 or the new P770? Thank you!
Also, do you think the Mizuno Pro 245 irons are more forgiving than both the T150 and P770? Thanks!!
Titleist messed up by having chrome on the T200 instead of matching it to the t150/t100
Absolutely agree!
I honestly thought you were going to say the Cobra tec for best overall. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these, myself just ordered the ping i530.
Agree, tbh any of them could be the best for any individual person. Just depends on what you need. My verdict is pretty pointless tbh 😂
Did you use a 7 iron? I seem to have missed the information.
Yup all 7
great content sir!
Thanks 👍
What would you fit someone in that has reasonably quick speeds (118-124mph driver speed) and is a mid to highish handicap 15-22. Game improvement has jacked lofts and you mention these aren't made with players with higher speed hands that dont have trouble getting the ball up.
Callaway looks best to me and feels the best imo
I did a Titleist iron fitting at my local club not so long ago. The outcome was T150 with Tensei Red shafts. But can I rely on that recommendation given the test was done with Pro V1x balls and my swing speed with a 7 iron I only 75mph? I prefer a softer ball and play Taylor Made Tour Response. Wondering if the club specification recommended would have been different if the fitting had been done with ball more similar to the ball I use. ProV1x is too hard for me
No in all honesty at that speed it won't really make any difference, so nothing to worry about 👍
@@epgolfstudios thankyou
Subbed!
I've seen all brands have issues and wouldn't say one is worse than the other
Who the hell is swinging a p790 at 120mph?! I’ve had zero issues with mine, and my 7iron is around 88mph
It all depends on the fit. My fit was better with 923 forged with 950geo shaft vs p790 with mmt 105 shaft.
What ball did you use for this test?
Z Star
Great question
Can you do a review on the avoda irons
I have reached out to the guy that created them but got nothing back unfortunately. I would quite like to do a test review but I’m not buying a set
@@epgolfstudios respect 🫡
Im thinking difference in all these clubs one stroke for us average guys
Srixon ZX5 for me 👍
Yeah they are a great iron too. The reality is all of these irons are mega close
@@epgolfstudios the 7 iron is about 27 degrees tbf though lol
Yeah true, is more like a traditional 5i 😂
What shaft were you using? What flex were they aswell?
KBS Tour Lite Stiff
I prefer a solid soft feeling forged iron. I tried the T200 and it was very clicky and cheap sounding. It also has a plastic infill which looks and feels Cheap..Good vid, but clicky sounding irons are not for me.
The ai200 had one of thr lowest spin and decent angle yet has the fewest yard roll out. I don't understand that. Considerably lower than p700
I would help to know what club you are using. 7, 8, 6?
We always use 7
Maybe I missed it but what shaft(s) did you use?
KBS Tour Lite Stiff in all of them
The Cobra Limit3D beats them all. Easily!
For what those things cost it should put it in the hole for you! But even with the price the peformance would be the same imo

Would the Mizuno JPX HM pro not fit in this category?
No I would class that as game improvement. But stronger in loft
@@epgolfstudios How would you compare Srixon ZX4 Mk2 to JPX923 HM pro? Are they in a different category in your opinion? I realise the best option is a fitting, which I have done. I wasn’t hitting it well so had to back a 2nd time 🤪
When you said first up is looks i thought you were talking about your haircut....😳
Not bad, by the way...😉👍
😂😂😂 thanks decides on a little change up
So PXG does make this test ?
I think if you've watched the video you'll be able to answer that 😂 but no we don't do them. Stopped a while ago as now they kinda just gone Director to Consumer and doing their own thing so will let them do that
I would like to see takomos added in this lineup
I may test them at some point but they are DTC so they cut people like us out.
Don't they sell heads? I've thought I'd seen other fitters with them
Possibly I don't know if any other fitters round here that sell them. I know others have tested them like TXG but again don't think they actually sell them
Did you use a 7 iron?
Yeah 👍
please tell me your dog's name is Bernhard haha. He's a great listener
😂 her name is actually Peach which tbh I'm not a massive fan of and we never actually call her that 😂 it's just Pea or Pea-Wee most of the time 😂
Wilson dynapower forged are the winners
Not sure how you worked that one out 😂😂😂
@@epgolfstudiosby combining lots of RUclips video data together, and also trying a few at local golf shop!
The moral of the story...for best consistency swing 70% and miss low-toe!!
😂
T200s feel like hardened stainless
You take that back!!! 🤣 Personally I don't find that, but everyone has their own impression.
agree!
Forget the PING I530. Custom fitting order: Taking over 3 weeks still not here.
That won't be their fault in all fairness, they will be waiting on components that will be on back order, either shafts or grips. If they have all the components Ping turn around custom orders in around 3-4 days and are actually one of the quicker ones in all honesty
Backstory: the S159 wedges arrived with the wrong shafts. That was sent back over 2 weeks ago, still haven’t received those. To be fair.
Crazy how PXG is left out and they smack…..
We don't do them. We did for a while and yeah they are decent enough.
@@epgolfstudios appreciate the hard work it takes to get us informed to make a proper decision. I’m not nagging just hardly see them invited to the table that’s all.
No dramas. And yeah they kinda exclude themselves from places like us now as they are more a direct to consumer brand now tbh.
@@epgolfstudios oh I see now. Makes sense… Have a good one mate and appreciate it
Why doesnt anyone test clubs throughout the set, amd instead of replicate a machine hitting shot after shot with the same swing speed and specs, work the ball and report on how easy or difficult it is to do? If these videos were important they'd be done on a machine with the exact same swing and then this could concentrate on feel.
Would be too expensive to have clubs throughout the entore set in all of these different irons. Even just having a long and short iron in each would be to expensive with how much we would make back on the video. Not only that the video would be much longer and people already maon that my vids are too long. And in terms of workability thats down to the player not the club, if you're a decent player you can work any club. It would be good to use a machine tbh but we definetley can't affors one of those
The black Apex badge looks horrible. They should have stuck with all chrome look like on the '21 model.
My Ping i530 stop on a sixpence
That's brilliant means they are probably a good fit for you. I'm certainly not saying that they can't have stopping power it will of course just come down to your delivery 👌
Dogs thinking, " my owner's lost it, talking to himself again"🤷
@@codex6594 I'm always taking to myself anyway mate even when im not on camera so shes used to it 😂😂
It is almost like cheating what these irons let you get away with on mishits.
How is this man critiquing anything with that swing? The one handed follow through is killing me and questioning the testing criteria.
I'll take my $500 Takomos, thanks. Golf equipment is ridiculously overpriced nowadays.
Would be nice to see the 101t or Caley 01t against this lot
