How to make your own concrete. NOT QUICKCRETE!!!!

  • We are building a monolithic slab for a new garage build. We had to lay 2 courses of blocks on top of the slab. We made our own concrete with our concrete mixer for the core fill. We find that quickcrete is not a good concrete mix for our harsh New York weather. It never seems to hold up as good as if you make your own concrete.

won't the eaves and gutters extend past 12 foot if you are 12 foot 2 inches? i guess it depends on what part of the structure has to be 12 foot away, i also have been wondering if bigger rocks like 3" or even 5-6" were placed on the first level would that help to improve drainage? and when do you use plastic underneath and when don't you? and when can you use the wire and when do you use the rebar, I guess this depends on the plans and intended weight of use...

A little trick if you will be using a mixer often. Stone in 1st, then sand, then 75% of your water. Add the cement to that once its (sand\stone\water) mixed well and use a plastic garbage can lid (assuming you don't have a proper lid) over the mixer to keep the silica out of your lungs. I've done one or two thousand trial mixes for concrete plants over my 40 years in the business.. 😆

Funny when I mix concrete, I shovel it and I count 3 scoops gravel 3 scoops sand and scoop and 1/2 to 2 portland and if I use some bags once and awhile I buy a bag of portland and add it, seems real good then for bag crap. I make this little song in my head when shoveling the mix in. LOL
