    Who was your favorite Joe or Cobra released in 1987? Besides Chuckles of course! 😅

      Croc Master was a pretty cool character and story

      @thegadflygang5381 yes he was! I don't remember his filecard backstory but I loved the way IDW reinvented him into a definitely creepier individual

    I wish they would have made a chuckles in classified with the untucked shirt and long hair. That was such a cool looking way they drew them

    Awesome! BTW the first Cobra Commander figure (mail away) had a functioning holster for his pistol on his back.

    • @StoriesFromTheToyshelf
      @StoriesFromTheToyshelf  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks! Wasn't it more of a plug in to his back? Not really a holster?

    • @Sturmvapor
      @Sturmvapor Месяц назад +1

      @@StoriesFromTheToyshelf It was a plug, but it is a holster... Chuckles is unique because his holster is an accessory of its own. Some other Joes could stow their respective weapons on backpacks and such... So similar. Bot Cobra Commander has a holster to holster his weapon... just molded into his back. Even the New Classified retro Commander has it, but now as a separate piece that plugs into his back :D

    • @StoriesFromTheToyshelf
      @StoriesFromTheToyshelf  Месяц назад +1

      @Sturmvapor yup that's what I meant :) Chuckles was the first to have an actual working holster accessory separate from the figure 👍

    The first ten min of the James Bond movie Casino Royale (2006) with Daniel Craig is literally a Chuckles movie demo reel. There is a funny video of one of the comic creators commenting as such. Check it out.

      @StoriesFromTheToyshelf remember as a kid we did stupid vows? (Well, I did)
      It was stuck in my mind, from ogling my friend's GI Joe carton, I somehow picked him out (the reason's lost on me), but I remember picking him out in SM Harrison Plaza back in the day when it costed only PhP 59! That's how old I am!

      @@owensayaman7047 Maybe it was the flowers he he....you're not OLD because I bought my Joes from Nova Fontana in Goldcrest at PhP 59 too! so by your definition that would make me old too 😅 I prefer to refer to myself as a "seasoned" collector 🤣

      @StoriesFromTheToyshelf this is a bit of a flex, but when I reached around 12 yrs old, my GI Joe collection numbered about 10 figures (1st year high school, first time having real 💰, my other friends have like 15, & his cousin like, 8. Suffice it to say, we had a considerable army). Only problem is, we lacked Joe vehicles (so expensive!!!),, during our playtime. So I took it upon myself to build helicopters, planes, out of cardboard boxes (I still remember passing by the market to buy old carton boxes of cigarettes, the big, sturdy ones, brown.) I fashioned out a H-1 Huey, "'Nam, Tour of Duty" was big during that time. My friend's old man, a seaman, was impressed with my handiwork, he just told me after all these years.

    • @StoriesFromTheToyshelf
      @StoriesFromTheToyshelf  4 месяца назад +1

      @owensayaman7047 that sounds amazing! I could never really buy the vehicles too with my own money. The few that I got were gifts on my birthday or Christmas. So yeah even if I didn't make my own vehicles, improvisation was key as desks became Joe headquarters and outdoor play was key! Being a kid in the 80s was the best!

    As I said in the reasonable FB group, Jerwa helped bring the character into the spotlight first with several flashback appearances. That made fans clamor for him around the time IDW got the license.

    • @StoriesFromTheToyshelf

      Then we have Jerwa to thank then! Like I said on a whole I quite enjoyed the Devils Due run. They knew how to craft an epic storyline :)

    See I never once thought Magnum but that makes sense. To me Chuckles was straight Miami Vice Crockett
    Lowlight was always my guy, by far the best backstory

    • @StoriesFromTheToyshelf
      @StoriesFromTheToyshelf  4 месяца назад +1

      Yeah as a kid I never watched Magnum PI so I never got that connection. Yes Lowlight is cool. That backstory was something else. Being lost in the woods for days is nightmare fuel for kids....but made Lowlight ultimately cooler!

    • @thegadflygang5381
      @thegadflygang5381 4 месяца назад +1

      @StoriesFromTheToyshelf I had to look that up. I remember Lowlight from the cartoon & the accompanying story. His drunk old man left him stranded in the junkyard at night and told him he couldn't come home till he bagged a few dozen rats
      It was so dark for a little kid but I loved it. Always stuck with me that trauma makes you tougher and able to deal with things better

    • @StoriesFromTheToyshelf
      @StoriesFromTheToyshelf  4 месяца назад
