For those that are unaware, the continuing A Real American Hero comic universe is a completely different universe from the Energon Universe. Both have a different origin of Cobra Commander. 🐍

I was hooked with this comic.... CC is not a citizen of Cobra La ... Hes a normal human who was taken in by Cobra La and given a purpose as said by golobulus....
In one part of the story he tells destro he was a salesman... A wink to his marvel comics origin perhaps....

oh they have been in a shared universe harking back to their Marvel days along with being in the same marvel universe too. it wasn't till IDW and others took control of both G.I.Joe and Transformers that they exploded in the shared universe.
Sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't. It depends on which setting, and even the ones that aren't explicitly happening side by side can have non-canon crossovers, or subtle crossovers that are. IIRC, the old Marvel Comics Transformers and G.I. Joe Comics did *both:* originally they had a crossover that wasn't canon to the ongoing titles, but as the G.I. Joe comic was nearing the end of its run, it was used to launch the Transformers Generation 2 comic book (via crossover story).
Fans have been speculating about a shared "Hasbro universe" thing since the early 2000s (probably before).

Hasbro has disappointed me with how often the Transformers made sense as a starting point for various other Hasbro IPs. Instead, Hasbro either ignored those IPs or focused on turning them into their own standalone movie franchises (Battleship, G.I. Joe, and Jem). _Transformers: Animated_ (2007-2009) was perhaps the perfect setting to relaunch CyberCOPS, G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K. and even Jem with a bunch of advanced technology (but especially robotics) having been reverse engineered from Megatron.
Of course, the Bay films, and _Transformers Prime_ (2010 to 2013) were also good fits for this. TFA just struck me as being better at bouncing between various levels of "seriousness" (or action) so that it could handle the various other Hasbro IPs better.
*If they're **_seriously_** using Cobra-La, something is very **_wrong!_*
I've been hearing a lot of good things about the new comics, *but this ain't one of them.* I'm all for integrated Hasbro's various IPs together; fans have been doing that for *decades* now, let alone some of Hasbro's official content. While that may require tweaking things, *if it ain't broke, don't fix it!* Cobra Commander's power comes from his ability to manipulate others. If you change that, he stops being Cobra Commander. Can he be a scientist? Sure! History is full of scientists who traded as much or more on their social skills than their scientific knowledge. It isn't like Hasbro's various IPs are lacking in evil scientists, though. Considering how series like M.A.S.K. and perhaps CyberCOPS could easily justify their technological developments as having been adapted from Cybertronian tech...
Still, the biggest problem is Cobra-La. I'm not against using elements from it but this? This was why it was so bad in the G.I. Joe animated film of the '80s. If we're bringing them in, just make them another extra terrestrial or extradimensional threat that Cobra Commander had dealings with...

I would love a more grounded Joes which focuses on the team and not the same 5 characters with real gravitas, Joes getting killed in action and some new recruits. Cobra-La is awful. I do like Serpentor only but the rest of it is just stupid.

I feel like Cobra Commander should not have a definitive backstory each person who wears the suits adds or take some from the story. I prefer a used car sales man.

This Cobra Commander Origin story is similar to the Animated Movie version which the story is drawn from heavily in some aspects.
Except in this universe the version of Cobra commander that we know and love was shot by this version of cc for screaming retreat
