I'm dying that Ollie opened the garbage bin and used the same hand to hold his pizza.
Yeah that was gross..
🤢Ew!
🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈
That's how you build your immune system
Don't worry, they cut the scene where he washed and disinfected his hands. JK, that was gross. Ollie is great but I've never judged him as hard as I am judging him now. Rat hair and poop pizza.
“I could get chubby.” You’re starting to understand the dilemma we have here in the states 😂
I was about to say that
But New Yorkers are generally not chubby because they walk everywhere.

@@ericlawson3155yeah. its rly only a huge problem in more rural areas.
its a 30 min walk just to get into town, and there r no bike lanes. lots of places only have sidewalks downtown.
we have to drive literally everywhere :(
As a New Yorker, these are both solid spots. You got to Joe's at 2 AM after a night out, and you go to John's of Bleecker when you want to sit and talk with people you love.
John's is only sit-down, though, isn't it?
Almost 50 years in NYC and I have yet to eat at John's. I guess I'm just a slice/takeout pie person.
@@HotVoodooWitch you should go, John's is great
@@goliatheater67373 it's not a slice place; I live alone.
Exactly!
@@frankfurter7260 I'm not heading to the Island (I'm not in town long enough anymore to do it, regardless). I'd love to try a Jersey tomato pie but only rarely get to NJ and never to that part of the state.
I like Joe's a lot because I order a whole pie to go (fun on the subway) with fresh mozzarella and fresh garlic. It's fabulous. Unfortunately, the days when you could go to any local NYC pizza joint and get a good slice are long gone because the owners' kids didn't want to make pizza, not to mention that rents are ridiculous. 🤷🏼♀ The one exception I can think of is Pizza Suprema on Eighth Ave. near the Post Office. It belonged to the owner's dad (I think he owns the property), the current owner became a lawyer, then decided he'd rather make pizza. It's really good pizza, too.
I love how Ollie was marveling at the “dry bottom” like it was a great piece of engineering! 😂
It is! Just like making a pie without a soggy crust! It takes an incredible amount of technique!
You obviously never had a soggy British pizza. It's no wonder he was shocked and impressed.
@@hneilmorris True, never had British pizza. I grew up in NE PA and NJ, so New York pizza was a staple in our house.

I love how Josh is clearly the flamboyant power bottom in the relationship and Ollie is the one that SEEMS normal. But when the camera is off Ollie goes full Chris Gaines.
"England has things that aren't food" 🤣
I am slightly concerned about Ollie touching his pizza right after touching the bin though. Hope they are okay.
😂 I thought the same thing about the bin!!
Who's ok? The bin or Ollie?
Dude, don’t worry about it. The bacteria from the bin gives the pizza a bit of a unique kind of flavour-an indescribable taste that elevates it to a whole new level. On top of that, It’s New York! If you’re in New York, you gotta eat like you’re in New York. 😎

I love how polar opposite Josh's and Ollie's faces are when the food is amazing. Josh gets all wide eyed and Ollie looks like he's pondering philosophy.

This whole series on American food has just made my heart full because you're going to genuine places where they do the food right as opposed to places that have an idea of what "American" food is supposed to be or it's the terrible watered down version of American food. I am really loving it because just how I feel about all the Korean restaurants shown on the channel, it gives a realistic view of why we love the food we do when it's done beautifully and your heart and your belly are full.
Well said. Their tour has been well-researched and they've really hit some of the best places you can imagine for different kinds of American cuisine.
@@ajurado800 It really has. Hopefully there is more to come because the US is huge and each region has its own thing.
Lol, reminds me of the time when I was on a school trip through Ireland and we stopped at Larne for the night. A few of us decided to go to some American themed restaurant. What transpired was one of the funniest dining experiences in my life. The whole time we were critiquing the food because it’s supposed to be “American” style stuff. But most of the food we got was like someone trying to make something based off a bad description. Like I got some burger with bacon and grilled onions and the onions were grilled on a bbq I swear. Whole onions slices with grill lines on them. The bacon was like ham bacon and not “bacon” bacon.
The milkshakes we all got were the funniest part. They were literally what they are. milk with toppings blended into the milk. I got a cookies n cream one and it was just milk with Oreos blended into it😂. No ice cream present in any of them. One came with a waffle cone on top full of whipped cream but not ice cream.
Best night ever.
@@quesoturtle739 There are quite a few burger places that grill a whole onion in the US so can't fault them for that, but yes, going to places like that always makes you wonder..."have you ever even been to the US?!?" Imagine being so disappointed as a foreigner going to these places thinking American food is like this or assuming that's how you make something and then presenting it to someone from that actual country and them being disgusted or confused.
Is American food not just a watered down version of food in general?
I love these guys! They really “get” Americans and our food. Much respect gentlemen.
No offense to Italy but pizza as we know it, the modern day pizza was created by Italian American immigrants in NY. The Italians version was more focaccia, a flatbread.
Focaccia is a different thing entirely 💀
We tried to go to Joe's Pizza and went to the wrong place! Who knew there was two different Joe's Pizza companies in New York 😂😂

I once did a self-directed pizza tour of New York and went to Joe's. Looked very familiar. But I'm disappointed they didn't go to a place with a coal-fired oven (you can tell because those are so hot they inevitably char a bit of the crust) which is uniquely New York/southern Connecticut.
"I stress eat. I don't know if it's comforting." Amen, Josh. Amen.

I was gonna say how does a tourist know the NY fold.
I noticed that as well. I mean, I like thick crust sometimes, but it just doesn't feel right if you can't fold your slice.
No doubt about it
@@56kwith200ping If you are under 40 and saying this you just don't fuckn know.
I am born & raised in NYC. I hosted an Italian exchange student from Milan and she absolutely loved our pizza.
Generally, there are two pizza eating experiences when going out for pizza. First is the lunchtime grab a slice and go experience - one or two slices, on a lunch break, rarely sitting down at the restaurant, consumed quickly before returning to the days activities. Second is the sit down dinner experience. Grab a booth or table, order a beer, contemplate the menu and order full pizzas. This is partnered with conversation, laughs, and atmosphere.
You forgot the 3rd. Weekend night out with friends, bit tipsy, grab a cheap slice and eat it on the corner while you wait for your ride.
@@liamengram6326
Yes, I guess there is a third realm of various night out drinking experiences, from cold delivery pizza at 3:00 a.m. to after the bar, making your way home, quick slice.
I like your thought process, hopefully no one staring at their phones.
@@liamengram6326 the forth. Eating a slice while walking back to work. It takes a lot of skill, rushing through lots of people and points if you finish before getting back on the job. Walking with a slice in one hand and soda in the other hand…pizza warrior.

The reason the crust isn't oily is because the coal-fired oven is insanely hot and cooks quickly. Sometimes I question your US stops but you got this one 100% right. John's of Bleecker street is really the best. Even with us locals who hate the long lines of tourists but go anyway. BUT...while Joe's is a good typical slice place, every slice place has a "Best of New York/Brooklyn/Queens" sign up. :) Loved this episode.

There is a ton of fun and delicious stuff for them to try here in New Orleans. I forget, have they come here before? Definitely enough food and experience here for more than one tour!

The thing about John's Pizza is that they use a coal-fired oven. That allows them to obtain incredibly high temperatures which results in that perfect crust.
Meanwhile, the next time you're on this side of the pond, you should check out New Haven pizza. Still hanging in there?
The thing about NYC pizza is that you can go to basically any pizza place on the street and it will still have this amazing flavor that you can’t find in pizza anywhere else in the world. Josh had it right about the sauce, but it’s also the crust. They say it’s NYC water used in the crust that makes a difference but who knows, haha.
i tried a $2 slice of pizza in NYC and it was still the best pizza i ever had. if i were rich i'd fly to NYC everytime i wanted pizza 😂
"Who knows?"
We chefs "know." That "it's the water" silliness has been debunked over and over...for decades.
Nearly every bakery, pizzeria and bagel shop (ANYWHERE in the US) uses FILTERED water to remove the chlorine that retards yeast development.
I’m so happy that they took a chef’s recommendation and went to an actually excellent (and iconic) pizza place to represent NY pizza. It’s sooo delicious when done right ☺️
Joe's on Carmine is excellent and iconic. As is John's but in a different way...

I am glad they got to have top shelf stuff, but the real test of pizza culture is the average slice shop, so I was REALLY gratified to see how well that went over.
The weird thing about pizza is New York Pizza, Chicago Pizza, Detroit Pizza, and several more are very different things. It's not just a different sauce or toppings, but a fundamentally different kind of food. American Pizza has become one of the most regionalized of all foods, but it's also found everywhere. This is one of the things that makes it so great. Eventually these different kinds of pizza may even diverge into separate categories the way soup, stew and chili have split into three separate things.

@@RaviPatel-lb7uc Oh it's funny that the Americans call pizza nazis the others, when they also state that they perfected the Italian pizza and now the pizza is an American dish. At 1:00 My guy touched the new York garbage bins then immediately touched his slice afterwards...
Just keep the water bottle, man. It wasnt worth that.
Pizza The Hutt was a character in the Movie Spaceballs. He looked like Jabba, but was made of pizza.
Oh yeah! The notorious gangster Pizza The Hutt! He got locked in his car and ate himself to death. Crazy story.
Looks so good!
This episode made me SO hungry! 😂
But if I’m honest it took me half the episode to stop thinking about how Ollie touched the bin and then went straight to eating his pizza 😅

I kinda went worried for that a bit time
Love when always Ollie when he bites something looks to the sky and thinks about it jaja
Love you guys, Welcome back to New York! I get a great laugh from you every time! As it so happens there’s a Joe’s Pizza on the corner of my destination so I think I’ll grab a slice for lunch! I feel so privileged to be a New Yorker! 🙋🏽♀️ Hello from Brooklyn

John's of Bleecker was a wonderful suggestion by them. It's one of the best pies in the city indeed.
John’s is a classic. Been there many times, it’s great
Ollie gives us names starting with the letter J, hmmm.... 🤔 Jabber before Josh when it's literally staring you in the face. 🤣
So close to New Haven. They should do that too. A good clam pie is a local delicacy.
