Things often like to fall apart all at once, just gotta remember it won't always be that bad! When the going gets tough, the tough get going! This just proves you have what it takes to be a leader in this business, and I hope this inspires other people to take the bad things in life in stride. Things aren't always rainbows and sunshine!

you guys got the right attitude, I wish more heavy equipment owner's/operator's would not be so intimidated by transmissions/transfer cases/rear ends/transaxles etc. Break it down one part at a time and be patient and the learning experience can be just as rewarding as the fix. Even the guy's working on these every day are still learning, because the units are all different and treated differently/worn differently depending on the driver/operator. Good job, and hopefully the fix only takes one order of parts and one dismantle

This is what owning your own business is all about. People see you out working and how easy it is to run a tractor but this is the part they don't see. You having to work on and fix the equipment. You could have someone do it for you but then you don't make money, you just work to pay someone else to fix what you've broke. Gotta do what you gotta do to put and keep the money in your pocket. Great video. From NC,
    Stay well. -Wil 👍

It has become clear that Man Behind the Scenes (aka T-rex) is the most overutilized, overworked, underpaid, underappreciated Glue that holds this organization together! It simply would not function without his boundless knowledge, complete dedication, and never tiring hard work he selflessly puts into every aspect of the daily grind. I know how you feel Mike, when major mechanical problems happen. My old R-model Mack is getting water in the engine oil. Mechanic says probably going to need an in-frame overhaul. Hope you get that jig saw puzzle back together again.

  • @davidanderson2393

I wish that I would have seen this video a year ago, seeing you struggle thru trying to get that apart made me want to get a message to you. You needed to get the upper idler pin and gear removed to get the main shaft out, timing marks on the counter shaft drive gears are on the face of the gears which line up with the key ways in the counter shafts. With the c/s drive gear teeth properly marked you can install the drive gear with timing marks 180 Deg from each other then install input, s/ring, spacer and bearing. The main shaft assembly can be lifted out and in with the reverse gear snap ring out and gear slid over sliding clutch up against 1st gear. As I'm sure you have found out not having gears timed properly it binds up, auxiliary section is the same way, low gear and c/shafts are timed, installing aux section has to go on perfectly straight or it will bind up also. Also if you have a problem with a gearbox popping out of gear check out the shift cover closely, look at the detent springs for collapse and the detent ball bores at the bottom where the balls ride on the shift rails can elongate and make it kick out of gear, also check shift rails for grooving between detent cut outs on the rails. High mileage gearboxes can have a lot shift cover wear issues, shift blocks where the shift stick makes contact can become worn out along with stick and tower castings.

  • @njv6918

I used to rebuild transmissions like that. Been a long time, but it's like riding a bike I never forget. Synchros on splitter is common wear item and the shifter collars wear. Other then that I've seen remans go million plus miles.

You shoulda took some pics with your phone on each of the stages of dismantling the trans. I did my 1st rebuild of a Fuller 18spd myself, and my biggest problem (i didn't take any pics) was remembering how everything went when I had to wait for 2 weeks to get the thrust bearings that I needed. My PTO exploded (log truck) and sent shards all through the trans, so both counter shafts had to come out as well. Yep, I made up new swear words that week!!!!

After there all in tighten them up, way easier then trying to line up the splines and pilot bearing. After I was shown once to do it this way it makes nicer

Torque's head have 6 points, and Allen wrench have 6 sides, the inside of a torque is a smaller allen. If you also replace the input shaft, you can take the old one attach it to a jack plate, using it as a clutch alignment tool and a way to lift that heavy shit up into place.

Yep... that’s exactly the way it works.... my dad always used to say, “About the time you think you’re ahead, something happens to show you that you’re a behind!”
Did you ever think that this might be your equipment’s way of getting back at you for dating the Volvo while the 120 was laid up? Jealous machines are no joke... I once had a buddy who traded a Karman Ghiaa for a Beetle... it broke down every trip. I pointed out that the vehicle he traded was called Karma for a reason...

Looking good I just hope you got an input shaft the one that drives off the clutch cuz if you're that deep into it you might as well hopefully you machine the flywheel as always good luck enjoy your videos

A big👍for the MBTS comment of T-rex Arms, it gave me the first laugh of the day. Second another 👍 for the MBTS to recognize that DP is really a "Jack Of All Trades" I very much agree. MBTS is like a sponge wanting to learn.
I think the MBTS deserves a couple extra shims under the passenger seat for great comments.
DP I enjoy all you do interesting and fun.
