Great idea heating the end up and pushing the bottle down to flare the end out I have made some rod holders for my kayak but going to mod my end like you have. Thanks for the great idea.
paisa007 thanks! I do try to use the basics, but nothing like a nice power tool every now and then. Lol Thanks for the comment, and thanks for watching!
You're welcome mate! Glad it will work for you! I used these also for beach spikes! worked really nice, drill a set of 4 holes in the back of the rod holder if you just want to put zip ties on it. Cheers!
Thank you! Would like to see pics of your finished project! You can share them here: Facebook.com/fishndisabled . I'll post them up!! 👍 Thank you for watching!
Thank you very much, did mine and mounted to a crate and look and work great. Thanks for the great directions. The thin wall PVC is the trick. I did a larger one to hold my net.
Thanks a lot. Just made one. But I have one piece of advice. When you heat the end of the 1" of PVC with the heat gun dont heat it directly perpendicular to the PVC. point the gun at a 45 degree angle to the end of the pvc. That way it heats the outside of the PVC and the inside at the same time. First couple attempts was a fail for me until I figured it out. It kind of "wadded" up the PVC when heating perpendicular. If I could post a pic I would. Anyways, Thanks so much for the video.
That’s good advice!! I had okayish luck with it I guess but I did kinda hold it perpendicular. On one of them I held it at more of an angle now that I think about it? So that makes since why one was better! Thanks for the advice!! And thanks for watching, hope it helped! Cheers 🍻!
Thank you very much!! Good luck on your build! Several people have asked specific questions in the comments over time. If you have questions, it's possible I have already answered it in the comments, but regardless, let me know if you have any questions and I will answer the best I can! Cheers! 🥂
Interesting. I have a deburrer for both metal and plastic as well as countersink drill bits to take off the sharp edges that occur from sawing and drilling holes. Great job, Cheers for the video :-)
Thank you for the tutorial. Looking to make this to bike 35 miles to a great fishing spot in the city since i cannot drive. To you think you could make a small esky holder to hold the fish? I'm not too sure if your from Australia but in Australia, an esky is like a box filled with ice to store the freshly caught fish. If you can't make a tutorial it's fine but please respond so i know you received my thanks and idea.
I actually know what a esky is believe it or not mate. One of my best mates lives in Maryborough, Victoria. 😁 I would think I could make something? I will start looking into it! Cheers mate! Thanks for watching!
I like the idea a lot, but I wonder if you would have any ideas on how to make these removeable? I use a friend's aluminium jon boat and I would like not to screw anything through the sides... maybe some sides holes across the pipe and use a clamp?
In your case, instead of a DIY, allow me to suggest buying some pieramount rod holders from pieramount.com? They are really awesome and I did a product review on them. Here is the video link: ruclips.net/video/T3ZaYGbZ40U/видео.html These might be exactly what you are looking for. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
It's to allow the reel to seat down and stay in one direction (works best on spinning reels). I know it doesn't work with all reels, like the low baitcasters, but usually they have a trigger on the rod. You can slide that into the slot to keep the reel facing the right direction. Thanks for watching!! :)
1 1/4" sdr 26 pvc a 10' piece was $5 at the hardware store, but you can use sch 40. it was kinda fast at the beginning? I think I will add an annotation. Thank you for watching!
I used stainless steel 3/4 in 1/4-hex screws with a stainless lock nut. Just a simple screw to hold them in so they don't rust and/or fall off. Hope that helped. I should of showed that now that I am looking at it lol. Thanks for watching!
Im looking to make something like this for a boom pole on film production sets....is there a way to make a base for it where the wind cannot knock it over? I've seen something like a metal tube with a flat large square base, but I forgot what it was used for
So you can possibly use a 24"x24" 1/2"-3/4" piece of plywood with a 1_1/4" dowel rod screwed into the middle to slide the boom pole onto? Then put sand bags on either side of it? Good luck!
If you choose to hard mount it to a kayak crate, a boat, or something. You can put the screw and the screwdriver through that hole to mount it. Otherwise, you can't fit the screw head or screwdriver into the small hole. Hope that helps. 😊
The thinner pvc is usually at true value hardware stores or ace hardware. Sometimes Home Depot has them, it’s lower pressure pvc, so might be in the conduit section as well. I’ll look and see if I can find better places to get it and post the link, but maybe even Amazon carries it. Good luck 👍
For me, it makes it easier to put the rod back in, and/or pull it out faster without having to fumble to get it back in, or cause me to tear my grips or cork on my rods. :) Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Through the smaller holes through the back of the holder, I added philips head screws with large washers and lock nuts on the back of the crate through the holes. So it would hold on each side. 😁 good luck! 👍 cheers! 🍻
I purchased my cpvc from Lowe's Hardware Stores. I know that most Hardware stores carry Cpvc pipe (Charlotte pipe). Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! I have actually done that lol. I have one i use for surf fishing. I can even hammer it down when I cant get it to go down by the other method. lol
FnDTX no problem. Thnx for the reply! I just made mine and I made the cut before heating it 😂 heated it afterwards and still turned out but I’m making more. Really great video!
I used stainless steel 3/4" slanted head screws with stainless steel nylon lock nuts, and mounted them through the holes onto the flat spots of the crate. lf you can't find a place to mount the hole, use large washers on either side of the plastic on the crate. That will hold it. Good luck! Cheers! 🍻
Thanks for watching. It was one 10' piece of 1-1/4" SDR 26 PVC cut 10 times. Each rod holder is 12". You can make it larger, 15" and get 8 rod holders. Hope that helps. Good luck with the build!
Isaac Herbison buy some Stainless steel tapered head, 1/4 by 1-1/4” with stainless lock nuts and washers. That will keep them from getting corrosion. Thanks for watching! Cheers! 🍻
It does not create fumes to heat with a heat gun as long as you use it correctly, and not over heat the PVC. One only needs to heat until its pliable. However, you make a good point, it is advisable to use it outside. If used indoors. Be in a ventilated area. Thanks for watching.

Yeah it’s so high now! 🤦🏻♂️ but the price of the rod holders went up as well. So making 3-5 rod holders from one piece of pvc is still better than $15 ea. cheers!
+Robert Balderas You mean like in sand? I put mine in sand all the time on the beach? no problem. I never use a hammer though on the beach. I suck it down. lol. i know that sounds silly but i have a video in my quick tips series that shows how its done. lol
Good workup. To anchor the spike, I wouldn't recommend an actual spike. Hammering will also split the post-formed end, which is no longer malleable due to the heat. Instead, I recommend bolting what's called a Dock Anchor, which is a short auger, onto the end of the pipe. It requires a 2" pipe, which can be reinforced with a short PVC sleeve. Then drill two diametrically opposed holes in the body and fit in a pipe, which can be metal, to serve as an auger wrench, which should also be reinforced with a short PVC sleeve. Make a thousand of these, sell them for a million dollars, and become a porn star.

Super rigid fully functional nice looking rod holders .

Very nice, I would recommend you using some tent camping pins to give this one more ability to insert the rod holder in to the ground
that idea is cute as fuck!! definitely building a rod holder stake! thanks a million!!
A lot of good info. Thanks for taking the tome to make the video. Just started kayak fishing. Hopefully I can use all this info.

These rod holders look good, unlike some of the hack jobs here on youtube. Keep up the good work.

Talk about getting your views!!! Super !!!
Thanks! Yeah I love diy's. I just have to fight off snow now rather than high or low tide... haha.
You should of shaped them while they were long, and then cut to length. Would of been easier until you got to the last one instead of all being short.
Nice tutorial bro.. i will make also for my tackle bucket. Thank you
You're welcome mate! 😁🤙
Nice and simple. Great vid. ty!

Just curious why you cut the piece out on the top? Is that to help the fishing rod set at an angle?

Very clever
What did u use to mount the rod holders to the crate.. What type screws?

Is this big enough for catfish rods?
Yeah I think you can put up to a good inch size rod in it? You can always get a. A little bigger size. Like a 1-1/2” and use a larger bottle.
Good luck! 👍

If you choose to hard mount it to a kayak crate, a boat, or something. You can put the screw and the screwdriver through that hole to mount it. Otherwise, you can't fit the screw head or screwdriver into the small hole. Hope that helps. 😊

FnDTX what is the best width of pvc for this? 1 1/2” ?
@@powderaddicts6364 I used a 1-1/4"...Make sure it's the thin wall PVC Charlotte pipe, I believe it's also called class 200? Good luck! :)

What is the purpose of flaring it? It appears the rod & reel will sit without flaring it.

It just makes it look like a commercial holder like the ones that would come on a boat.
