Bathroom is looking very nice. I still consider myself an amateur but have managed to replace a toilet, install vinyl floor, electric light fitting all in my bathroom. Videos like these help to give me confidence in such projects.

Ive just finished a full bathroom refurb. On a tight budget and with little skill, it was a success. Hard work, expensive paying the professional trades but did a lot of the straightforward, time consuming labour stuff myself. I must say everything you do is to an incredibly high standard with some of the best tools and kit around. In my experience you can still get a decent job completed with a basic application... and people shouldn’t be overwhelmed by your sometimes over engineered approach. Great channel.
I bought one of those inspection camera from another video of yours and they are fantastic. I install IT Equipment and they are great for checking behind walls, under floors and in suspended ceilings for running cables.
The Debstech camera looks a great bit of kit! This bathroom is really taking shape 👍

Carry on Roger, I feel sorry for you as I don't believe you deserve all the crap thats being thrown at you. You are not a tiling expert, and you trusted your subbie to complete the job to the proper standard. So many people on here are experts. Thanks mate. I am assured it will be O.K. It won't leak and the tiles are well supported so I am sure it will all work out. There are only two tiles in the shower so that reduces the chances of anything bad happening.
The video may have been edited but the....Do the dot dot dot dab dab dab shuffle remains beneath the tiles in that customers house , and there is where the problem lies........naughty naughty....😳
Come on guys if that section of the video is removed to prevent others following suit then credit to Roger for correcting the problem video. I’m sure Roger is addressing this with the customer and tiler

Do you have any videos of applying the self lever to the single fall tray. How’s best todo it with it being on a slight slope?

Not sure if Roger has done the best thing here by uploading a new airbrushed version of this vid. The original showed the tiling not being done to recognised standards - which was correctly pointed out by many in the comments - all of which are now gone. Surely a more open and honest approach would have been to either put a paragraph of explanation in the description box in the original vid or acknowledge the changes in this new vid. and use it to explain the new standards and why they exist. This feels like Roger and crew are covering up for bad workmanship. When one of the premises of the channel is to show how things should be done right and teaching others, pretending you have not messed up undermines it's authority and trustworthiness. You have done yourselves a real disservice here.

If tiling inside a shower enclosure do i have to start with a full tile? Or can i use a cut say 25% of the size of a full tile?

I dont usually comment, but like the other comments i am saddened that all your hard work will be undone by the shoddy tiling. i have been fitting premium bathroom and wet rooms for the last 10 years and this includes tiling and plumbing, everything needed to do a bathroom from the brick wall if needed(Drywall etc) the fact there are no envelope cuts in the shower area is absolutely criminal, where is the built in fall of the tray?? seriously do yourself a favour an re-tile the floor or you will get leaks and water that doesn't drain away...you NEVER..EVER dot and dab a floor, this isnt the 60's!!!!

There is no need for an envelope cut. The tray is single fall as shown by the linear drain. This is now a popular wet room former because it avoids those sharp edged envelope cuts. The water will drain to the waste even with no tiles.
@@SkillBuilder So the water will just build up either side of the linear drain to the left and right hand side?? as the drain does not run the full length of the shower area..?? i have fitted many linear wetroom trays mainly from marmox and impey and they have the fall in each direction. But regardless the dot and dab method is still not correct, especially on a wetroom floor. Not picking your work, i'm an avid fan of your plumbing and construction work, just wasn't a fan of the tiling 👍
@@raymonddc4805 fair comment Ray but the linear drain is fine. I think we have some footage showing it in action for the final episode. It has been running for over three months now and no puddling.

I'm currently building a new bathroom and using the Abacus Elements Board on the walls. But I'm wondering if it is suitable to use the 10mm Elements Board on the floor beneath a Stone bath? Plan was to fix the elements board to the floor as in the video and then tile on top before fitting the bath. I'm worried with the weight of the bath the Polystyrene core of the Elements Board deforms and cracks the tiles.
I would set the fleet on the boards or put down some spreaders to distribute the weight. If you put the feet through holes you can seal the holes.

I'm intending to shoot my electric UFH over the top of an Abacus tray. I was going to make up the depth of the UFH cable in the rest of the room with self leveller, but what do I do in the tray? The self leveller will just run towards the waste? Make up depth in the tray just with tile adhesive?
Hi Tom. Yes you are spot on. Either mix the self leveller at that point with slightly less water and trowel it in onto the tray or use tile adhesive on that bit. I tend to use the tile adhesive, it is just a question of not damaging the cable with the corner of the trowel.

Any future plumber is going to chuffed to nuts with the mosaics around the bath.
I have answered this point a number of times. It is very easy to cut an access panel along the grout lines. That whole mosaic panels will come out as one and go back with a bit of foam. You have to get with the times. Removable panels are not what my customers want to see.
I would like to know if it is ok NOT to fill the screw heads before tiling.
You don't need to worry because the tile adhesive will do the job. In a wet area it is a good idea to use the Pro Seal and tape on the washers.
Tub draining slow was due to lack of air admittance. Install a y just before p-trap with an AAV valve above it and it's done.
The AAv has to be above the flood level so it would be tight.
@@SkillBuilder there's plenty of room in there, it would require less space than the current nightmare. The AAV height in this scenario is only limited by the tub height, well above the drain itself. And technically you could route it into the wall above and install the wall grate for air admittance. I really wish the video detailed changes to the configuration,and demonstrated the improved flow rate.
@@redhoward11 In my book it needs to go above the flood height and not the drain. If the AAV is below the water line and it leaks, as they do, that bath panel has to be cut.
I solved the problem with the new waste run which went down and out. Sorry you didn't see it. I will dig out the footage and re run it.

Lets not forget that Abacus sponsored this video. They knew it was being recorded. They still had the arrogance/incompetence to send this hack to site wearing their logo and no PPE on the assumption that you, the viewing public, wouldn't know better. This to me is inexcusable. By association they've also made Roger and the team look like prize twats. This has backfired quite badly for them, as I (and no doubt many others) won't be buying their products. Have some sympathy for the SB channel folks, imagine this is your channel and the people who pay your bills have done you right over.... what are you going to do?

In future It's better to address that there was a mistake in the first video (dot and dab), rather than just delete the video and reupload an edited version, considering how many people saw the first video. It wasn't you who made the mistake, it was the tiler and worth addressing for young tilers and DIYers

Hi Tom
You are right and I did provide an explanation but after talking to the tiler I discovered that you are still able to apply tiles in the way he did if the substrate is sufficiently strong. The requirement for a full bed is for plasterboard and other weak substrates. We have decided to make a new video looking at this issue and we will also carry out some pull off tests to show which is the better method.
Will the under floor heating work as efficiently were there is no adhesive? Because it will just be heating a cavity up
There is around 90 adhesive coverage on the backs of those tiles so it will be fine. In fact it is fine.

What happens if there is a problem under the bath like a leak? Can those bath panel boards be removed with the mosaic tiles or would they need to be cut out and then replaced?
You can cut the grout lines and remove any section you like but there are no high pressure pipes under the bath and the traps and solvent weld are usually reliable.
@@SkillBuilder That's a good point I don't think there will be any faults to worry about anyway. Looking forward to some tiling videos from the expert. I didn't realise how much skill was involved with tiling until i really started looking into it.

Get yourself some blue and red electrical tape for pipe marking. You will never have to get the vacuum out again

Good tip and I have some but the marks were on the other side of the wall and once the bath was in place I couldn't see them and it was a week later.
The whole point of showing the vacuum trick was to show people a way out. I have been to enough wrongly connected shower valves to realise some people just take a guess. You can even buy a reversing thermostatic cartridge for some showers.
Skill Builder yes I know about the reversing cartridges.
I also have a load of speedfit stop ends painted blue and red for easy identification too.

I could watch your tiler all day, I have dabbled with tiling, and I am not that bad but your tiler is an expert. It is a joy to watch him make difficult areas look like a piece of cake, he has been doing that for a long time to get to that skill level. Great Job.

I thought asbestos was banned under new regulations? I am not too sure what the law is relating to that so don't quote me but I am certain that your not meant to use it because it can cause severe respiratory issues?!

Wow all correct measures taken using correct materials, waterproofing ect then the so called tiler turns up and spoils it. He doesn’t have correct coverage on the tiles, trim is fitted differently on the niche as to elsewhere it’s really disappointing because I love all your jobs but the tiling is not up to standard. Porcelain in wet area should have at least 95% coverage and these walls are perfect so no excuse ☹️
I love these videos, but this one doesn’t give the amateur like me any tips on tiling at all. Shame

I am very sorry about this. I was going to comment but I wasn't there and, as a plumber, I do not feel I am not in the best position to judge the merits of this one. The British Standard says that the amount of adhesive coverage is dependent on the weight of the tile and the strength of the substrate. It is expressed as a percentage so we are going to do some tests. If we left this video up we were in trouble and by taking out the offending bits we are not encouraging bad practice. I will address the whole issue in detail but I need to check the facts. It is not as simple as saying " A full bed it always required".
Skill Builder agreed nothings simple perhaps address the issue publicly first explain like you have just done in a post or vid ,then re upload , interested to see the test results !
