So there is no overheating when paired eos r6 with atmos ninja V ? It is irritating to shoot 4k and have time limit for overheating !
For 4K 24fps, there’s no overheating when paired with the ninja v. You’ll be less likely to overheat when utilizing the other frame rates as well.
Regarding your comments on the RP, the 6D Mk2 was my first full frame DSLR, which has essentially the same sensor as the RP. I agree that it’s dynamic range is not as good as the R and higher. the R has the same sensor as the 5DMK4, but I reckon the RP and the 6D Mk2 are perfect to learn on at first . They encourage you to get the exposure right i the first place, and this pays dividends later when you have better cameras bot don’t need on highlight or shadow recovery in LightRoom to save your shots.
Couldn’t have said it better myself! Agree with you 100%.
Loved the guitar intro together with the slide show!
Thanks! Need to get some kind of simple device to make recording over myself easy. So out of touch with music tech these days 😆
What exactly are you talking about video and the R6? Are you saying that I can't just download the file from the camera to my computer and view it? Do I have to do something in order to view it? I've been watching videos on here and I was leaning towards that camera (I mainly like to take pictures of trains, but thought about doing video) and now I'm concerned about it. An explanation would be greatly appreciated if you have the time. Thanks in advance.
If you shoot in canon log, then you’ll have an issue. The files are h265. Unless you have a newer computer capable of handling that codec, you will have trouble editing without creating a proxy first.
If you don’t shoot in clog, the files will be h264 and you shouldn’t have any problems viewing/editing the footage when you upload to your computer.
I cannot thank you enough in words. I bought Canon EOS R based on a friend's recommendation. Then, I watched many videos on RUclips that EOS RP has almost the same features of R but $1000 cheaper. I had a sense of regret. But, after watching your video, now I think it was a good choice. I also bought my camera with 24-105 f4 L lens about $2300 deal. The camera is good. I am not professional. I just want to record beautiful moments of my life. So, EOS R suffices for me. Thanks again.
I’m still so happy with mine. Such an awesome camera. I really enjoy The 1080p footage that comes out of it and use it frequently for my RUclips broll. I’ve also used the 4K footage for paid gigs as well. Enjoy!
@@radwinaskari7829 With the build quality difference and the 5D mk4 versus 6D mk2 sensor, and full mechanical shutter at higher framerate, the R definitely isn't equivalent. I almost picked one up myself, and was a little disappointed in some of the features the RP lacks. Either way, they take great images compared to any phone or such.
amazing review, thank you so much, however, i have a question to you dear Brandon, since i have the R6, What i am suppose to do with the yellow skin tone ,any solution in mind rather than lightroom since i am an enthusiastic photographer, not professional with dealing with the light room ? once thank you Brandon for this highly valuable review
If you are just shooting in jpeg I don’t recall having any color issues in jpeg mode. For video, if you are shooting in clog, choose neutral color profile. The yellow skin tones won’t be an issue.
hello, I am in the market for my first Mirrorless and Full Frame. I have been shooting APS-C since the Canon EOS 10D. I have seen the RP vs R6 and while the R6 feels better in my hands it is twice the price of the RP. Recently I have seen some great deals on Refusbished R's. I am very curious how the R would stack up. Video not so important. I shoot mostly people and scenery shots. My APS-C cameras are low light challenged. Also with the RP and R I would be able to get more glass. Comments welcome. Thanks
Go with the R. It’s a bit slower for moving subjects but it’s a big step up from the RP in my opinion.
@@BCPCamerasTech I am seriously considering it. It will have to be a leap of faith since the one local store Best Buy’s only has the RP and R6. Is that slider in the back that bad?My concern with the RP is longevity. I keep cameras for a long time. I still am using my D300s, D5200, t2i and K5. Have a nice weekend and thanks again
I prefer the R6 over the R5 in regards to over performance for sure but it was way easier working with the color on the R. That might be different now that the canon profiles are available in Lightroom.
I didn’t think the slider was terrible. I used it for adjusting white balanced and thought it to be pretty convenient.
Hi Brandon. Your comment re: the electronic shutter difficulties with the R6. I’d like you to flesh that out a little. I presume you’re talking about rolling shutter, right ? I’m interested only in stills, birding actually. Would that impact my shooting ? You also mentioned that this wasn’t a problem with the R5. Could you be a little more specific ? Thanks. Good review. 😊👏🏻🐿
Hey Robert. From my understanding, the R6 has a slower sensor read-out speed than the R5. This mean that’s the R6 (in Electronic shutter mode) will result in more distorted images due to rolling shutter. With the R5, the faster readout speed will allow you more flexibility (e.g., shooting at higher shutter speeds) before you start to notice any issues with the images. If you plan on using the ES, I would definitely just go with the R5. Thanks for watching!
Would you consider the r a worthy upgrade to the rp? I have the rp and I feel ready to move on but not sure I need all the r6 has to offer. On the other hand I'm not sure the r offers enough of an upgrade to be worth it. I mostly do stills but I do like to dabble in video as well.
The R would be perfect for you. I would get the R6 if are shooting fast action. Otherwise the R is really great. I still use it all the time. Try to get it used for a good price.
@@BCPCamerasTech - Thanks for the advice much appreciated. I was leaning towards the r with a vision of getting the r5 in a few years. No way could I handle tech like that right now but in 2yrs I think so.
@@rez6541 that’s the way to do it. Wait until the prices go down. If it weren’t for covid, I bet the R5 price would have dropped already.
I've been waiting for the prices to drop but they're holding firm on them. I don't think the prices are that bad as they are now though. You're getting alot for your money with the canon r lineup imo. Thanks again for your advice.
Same situation with RP but I went for an R6 for the prices they go now, like 1500 or less. The R5 mk 2 and R6 mk2 being out now means both the earlier bodies are cheaper and cheaper. Always best to stay one generation or two behind and higher end for best value. Considered the R5 for ~2300 but it'll go down much more once more people get their hands on the R5 mk2 or R6 mk3 comes out.
Same. I have the R5 and R. I'm mostly a video shooter (sports, documentary) but also shoot still weddings with my wife. The R5 was a must since it's the only mirrorless Canon that has a flash sync port. Gotta have that shooting wedding receptions. As for video interviews, the R is a fantastic B-cam paired with the R5 for that second angle. They match so damn well in post. I actually bought the R6 but quickly returned it after realizing you can't save video settings to C1 C2 C3 and it doesn't have the flash sync port. Oh and I shoot mostly 1080 since most everything is published to the web so no overheating concerns at all. Couldn't be happier with the latest firmware update bringing 120fps in 1080. It's pretty future proof too. When the day comes that I'll need 4K (or even 8K!) I'm all set. The R5 is simply amazing. Bravo Canon. Oh, and nice video!
Thanks! That’s a huge reason I sold the R6 and went with the R5. Future proof and durable! Thanks for sharing.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video! Great perspective bro
Thanks! Really glad you liked the video.
I have been totally blown away with the dynamic range on my RP. I don’t see that being a problem at all. The dynamic rang is the common con that many people talk about. I don’t experience that. I have noticed the video has little image stability. That is not an issue because I don’t use it for much video. I record in 1080 only and that is fine.
I think depends on you’re editing style and how much you like to push the RAW files but you bring up a great point. There are going to be a ton of people that find the DR to be sufficient in the RP. Enjoy!
I bought the RP to try out the mirrorless line. I thought the smaller size would be nice for traveling and hiking but with lenses the size difference was marginal so my G5X II is still my go to hiking camera. I did like the advantages the mirrorless had over DSLR so when the R5 came out I replaced my 5D4 with it and sold the RP. If it last me 8 years or so I'll be happy.
I bet it’ll last you 8 years haha. The R5 is a tank! Always looking for compact hiking set ups so I might have to check that out.
I used my 1D3 for 12 years professionally.
i shot the finals of my photography apprenticeship with the rp, you really dont need much more power, it is a fine camera
It is a nice camera for sure! What was your subject if you don’t mind me asking?
@@BCPCamerasTech the first subject was product and we needed to do 5 pictures of beauty products, one of them combined with a model, secon was choosable, i chose 2 photos of a tiny house, one exterior, one also with model.
the last was completely without any requirements, i did 3 photos of a tactical watch, one of them again with a model
Bro 5d mark iv and and EOS R and r6 which one is best for wedding photography and long term use
Go with the R6 for sure. Eye detect, great low light autofocus, and more durable shutter mech is worth the extra money!
@@BCPCamerasTech it's just 20mp what about 5dmark iv photography is main purpose
@@ma.ajigarkhan7540 I wouldn’t want more than 20mp for wedding photography. That editing process really slows down if you’re working with large file sizes. Never used the 5d mark 4 but if you can find a used one for a great price, I’m sure it will serve you well.
@@BCPCamerasTech it's not an good idea ? Get a new one
@@ma.ajigarkhan7540 My 5D Mark IV is still my go to wedding camera, however, the R6 is awesome, I am still getting used to a mirrorless camera, may not completely replace my 5D anytime soon but if I had to replace it, I would go with the R6. Don't let the 20mp sway your decision, that would be the least of my concerns.
Hi first time viewer here..
Can I ask.. If I were to get one camera right now to last me until few years down the road, which option should I take?
1. Cheap body, EOS RP and get 24-105 f4 L + 50mm f1.8 + 16mm f2.8
Or
2. Eos r6 + 50mm f1.8
I can only get either one of those two due to budget restriction. My intended use is for photographing my family and non-stop-moving 4 y/o boy, often indoor inside my house. Other specialized case is family bday party video/photo. Oh and travel once covid is gone of course.
I also partial color blind, so I'd be relying on OOCJPEG with slight editing on the exposure.
Which do you think the route I should go? Very capable body to do everything or cheap body with older tech but better lens set?
Cheers and I appreciate any reply. If you reply I'll be permanently subscribed to you 😃
The R6 will definitely provide you with better autofocus for moving subjects. The additional boost in fps is going to allow you to capture special moments with ease. I would also suggest going with the R6 since you will be shooting indoors often. The camera performs better in low light in regards to image quality and low light AF. You may want to start with a wider lens though (eg, 35mm) since you will only have one lens.
@@BCPCamerasTech actually that's really a good reply. 35mm huh.. Never thought abt buying that as my starting lens.. Any noticeable different between the native RF 35mm f1.8 vs the EF 35mm f1.8?
Thank you again and you've gained one more subscriber. Hope your channel will prosper!
@@torakun3573 haven’t tried either so couldn’t really tell you but I’d probably try to find a used rf 35 because I prefer native lenses. Thanks so much for the sub! Enjoy the new purchase!!
the best reviews i have seen on the RP. thanks
So glad to hear that. Thank you 🙏🏼
Hi Ross. I didn’t know that about the electronic first curtain shutter. Thanks for the info.
🤣 you’re welcome
Great breakdown. But I wanted to know what did you choose and why?
Thanks I really appreciate that. I ended up choosing the R5 since it’ll be more future proof than the R6 (stronger build, 8k, high res sensor, etc. ). So far I am extremely happy with my decision. I also still have the canon EOS R And I use the camera all the time too.
@@BCPCamerasTech thanks for that update. I think U made a great choice. I myself went with the R5 and no regrets best of both worlds.
Now you need to add the R3 to the comparison... thanks to your review, I know that the EOS R is what I should get. I was going for the RP, but the lack of a mechanical shutter is a no go.
Thanks for watching. Haha yea I’d love to pick one up just for the review but the R3 is a bit overkill for my needs.
Nice engagement Brandon. Really good video.
Thanks Thomas! Appreciate it.
So what cameras do you currently have now?
Hey Shawn, I currently have the Canon EOS R and R5. Magnificent pair for my needs.
Awesome, I have the RP and R6...
@@ShawnLPorterPhotography that’s awesome! Are you finding them to be sufficient for you work or are you thinking about upgrading either camera?
@@ShawnLPorterPhotography so it is ok for the rp to be kept than the r? please share to me your thoughts.. thank you
If you shoot with fast glass (eg, 1.8 or 1.2 lenses) then it’s worth it since you get a mechanical shutter and a faster Max shutter speed. Otherwise, if you’re just using the rp as a backup camera, I don’t think you need to upgrade.
I've been shooting Canon cameras since the 70's and have shot over a thousand weddings as well as portraits, events and architecture. I've earned a living with Canon cameras my entire adult life and have never had a shutter fail, or a camera fail unless it was physically damaged. I've had 5D MkII's and mkIII's with over 400,000 exposures, the only guys I know who have worn out shutters are the guys shooting sports.
That’s good to know! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Just sold my RP, I had not picked it up since I bought a R6. I'm really happy so far with the R6; love the ibis, fast frame rate, and superior auto focus. During the summer I take lots of photos at a beach and am curious how it will handle the very bright light reflected from the water and sand. I don't have much experience with filters, hope you will make a video soon on their use with the R Series Canon line. I take action photos of black dogs on the beach and in the water so I need pretty high shutter speeds but not wind up with pics of black blobs without good details.
I can definitely do a video on some of the filters I use. So happy for you. The R6 is a big step up from the Rp. Would love to see your pictures some time!
@@BCPCamerasTech Oh, I've got plenty of photos! My issue with filters is, of course I use them to cut the glare of reflected light from the beach and water. I use an older version Canon ef 70-200 mm f4 IS and the ef/rf control ring adapter. But using a filter results in me reducing my shutter speed and at times (especially when back lighting is present) the black dogs can become an undefined black blob! Perhaps with the R6 I won't be so hesitant to use a filter and turn up the iso to compensate. I'm one of the old school shooters who started back in the 70's using film and a high iso would result in really bad grain.
R5 overheating is now essentially a non issue as of summer 2002 with the firmware updates.
Very true. Still have the R5 and I’m very pleased.
If you play this video at 1.25 times speed, he appears to be speaking at a pace that’s easier to watch in my opinion. Otherwise, fantastic video!
Yes not the first time I got that feedback haha. Thanks
Nice video! I still have my RP and also picked up the R in December. I may eventually upgrade to the R6 and sell the RP.
You’ll love the R6. What do you mainly shoot?
@@BCPCamerasTech RUclips and events. Starting to do more photography.
@@Tfrank22 oh yea you’ll definitely appreciate the upgrade!
I will say for the RP that I love how small it is, though I’ve added the extension grip. Still, it’s so easy to carry in a bag, and almost forget it’s there, even with something like the EF 35 f2, and the obligatory adapter. Not like the 90D, which performs better in some applications, but feels more like a brick. Not unlike my old F-1n though... what a camera that was :-)
@@emix1010 no denying the RP is an awesome compact camera!
never used the f1n but looks like a great camera. Did you have a favorite lens that you paired with that camera?
Bro, great video… this is my 4th time watching it as you eluded to something I have been trying to get an actual user’s perspective on.
So here’s my questions if you can help..
EOS R paired with the Atomos Ninja V
The Ninja is reading the incoming signal I assume.
So EOS R cropped 4K to Ninja 4K. Or (and I know this may be a dumb question…
Can you output EOS R 1080 to Ninja 4K
Lastly, (if EOS R paired with Ninja)
What are your thoughts on image comparison as you mentioned colors (skin tones and such) and would this possibly be a semi workaround for Dual Storage.
😅 okay the 3 Questions.
Again, this hacks been tricky for me as I just bought the EOS R and Ninja (Which I have still in the box but thought I’d ask you first as a user) and really trying to nail the tech gap between my purchase vs the R6
I know this is a lot, but anything you can add would be tremendously helpful.
Thanks in advance.
Hello! Yes you can definitely record in 1080p on the ninja v. The color is great straight out of the camera but if you record in clog, you’ll have to grade the footage. I haven’t tried dial recording on the eos R but I don’t see why you couldn’t hit record on the ninja and the camera. Hope this helps and wasn’t too late. Best of luck with your new tools!
Hey man, thanks again for your video and congrats for the guitar playing...!111
Thanks Gabriel!
Very good , it clarify to me that I need to spend my money on other than upgrading from RP to R6 . I’m amateur photographer and I like to document my solo or family travel so nothing that critical or competitive to worry about
Yea it sounds like you are making a smart decision with holding off on the upgrade! The RP is a very capable camera. Thanks for watching.
Had to watch your video again. I will be replacing my Canon M50 and my EF-M primes with a used Canon R as my B cam to my Canon R6. I think the R will make a great B cam!
It’s great! I still use mine for video all the time. I’d go for it for sure.

Ok, sorry, but I finally had to stop watching this because you really say "really" a really really lot. (You've owned all these cameras but don't know how much they cost?) Also, I never got anything other than pros and cons to suggest what each camera might be good for.
