Heya, so the Banshee actually has very little pathing in CE outside of locking onto you as an enemy. This means if it locks onto you (breaking its original AI float around pathing) it will literally just aimlessly fly around from then on once you leave the area. This is what you experienced as now it just crashes into everything, even killing the other Covenant, albeit not intentionally even though it looks that way in the video. The banshee usually when I tested this will crash into the ground for 5-10 seconds and then randomly fly off. Hope this is the explanation you were looking for :) Oh and PS if you lure the Banshees in Halo (2nd mission after coming out of the underground area) back to the underground section, it'll also destroy their pathing AI.
This explains the banshees on the second half level of "halo" 2 of them just spin around each other till they see you. I don't think anyone's ever notice them because they're too busy driving in the cracks of the next area or because they are too high in the sky for anyone to notice.
This actually happens to me quite often playing CE back in the day, even now also when I visit it from time to time Banshees randomly crash into the wall and try to fly into the wall. usually its an easy kill but they don't seem to recover.
1:10 While mounting the large aerial vehicle, Ritan 'Tegram figured he finally has had enough of Tyha 'Kadom talking shit and swiftly decided to send him to the promised land.
my best guess would be this: NPC AI in halo is waypoint and state based. They have clusters of waypoints to try to move in to if they're patroling, attacking, holding, defending, etc. If they're attacking it's usually a case of trying to find a waypoint where they can get a good shot on you, wheras when patrolling they move around points at random. What I think is happening is that the elite and banshee are pathing to the same waypoint, but the elite can't finish being at it and move on because it keeps on being interrupted by the banshee, and the banshee can't reach it because it's a banshee, so they keep running into each other. The next question is "why is the banshee trying to path to somewhere on the ground?" to which I answer "no idea, I don't know how air vehicle pathing works" EDIT: Actually it could be that the banshee, not knowing where the player is, hasn't activated its regular strafing run the player AI so has fallen back to the default behaviour for NPCs.
Don't remember CE specifics but AI air firing positions have to be placed in the air as they will fly directly to them. It's possible the AI zone in this situation had both air vehicle and ground vehicle firing positions so the banshee started using the ground positions. And ran over the elite because it couldn't actually navigate on the ground
There is a behaviour in halo 2 where an elite can scare away a grunt on his own team telegraphed by playing the berserk animation but I don't think this hit n run was intentional.
Totally out of my field here, but correct me if I'm wrong, I feel like way back I heard that sometimes enemy Ai can get stuck to the same movement path as a nearby Ai? If this isn't Totally BS from something I misread years ago, is it possible that it's the Ai getting stuck to the same path?
You can see banshees doing this elsewhere too if you manage to not disrupt the Covenant. Sometimes Ghosts will repeatedly drive into Wraiths and unintentionally do flips in the air.

I know that this has nothing to do with the video, but there's quite a shortcut that you can take towards the end of the level that's not even hard. On the checkpoint " if i had a super weapon" the door where you exit out of the building onto the snowy bridge. If you look below you can see where you come out at the end of the level to go up the last hill. At the bottom of the hill off the left side of the bridge you can see a slope at the hill base. You can jump from the bridge onto the slope in the correct spot and take zero fall damage. From there you can just walk up the final hill. The enemies that are supposed to be there won't even be spawned in, including the hunters and the enemies behind the door.
I got the banshee to do the same thing on the ground in the warthog.. if you fishtail the hog while he is about to ram you from the sky you can get it to follow you and push you around until you get to close to the wraiths .
I've found that once you've played enough Halo CE weird stuff does pop up. I was once playing the very end of Two Betrayals and as I was flying the stolen banshee to the last platform a big yellow blob appeared on my radar like a Pelican was flying near or something. On a level when you never see another friendly ever again. I chased after it but then it disappeared, spent ages trying to find it again but nothing. No idea if something had loaded off screen or out of boundary but again it's a level where there should be no friendlies so still weird.
Pretty sure banshees base alot of their pathing around player location and crosshair movement, theres a speedrun glitch called banshee grab that exploits this on aotc. So theres a chance you might have directly caused that banshee to splatter that elite without realizing EDIT: For clarification, I'm no speedrunner and i don't know exactly how any of this works, so i could be completely wrong. So treat this as a theory
I thought that. So I reloaded the checkpoint and was walking up and down the bridge to see if it would follow me and it was unresponsive. The only time the banshee cared about me is if I shot it, then it would fly up. In the video I was stationary, so my movement shouldn't have affected him.
you're probably right, I think even in the speedrunning trick they need the banshee to be aware of the player first before their movements affect them, most likely something else is going on then.
flying ai break when they don't have proper firing positions and pretty sure move positions. They like ramming everything and just float to the ground. It happened to me too trying to get working banshees. So the banshee, since they're no enemies just started not using his firing positions and had no move pos. But banshees don't stand still, so they move in one direction. Turn occasionally and when they see allies, they turn to look at them and splatter away!
I miss these days. I found out that after you cross the ice tunnel when you get out of the tank. You go up the ramp with a rocket launcher and jump on this rock on the left I believe. You zoom in with it and jump to see over the hill. Flip the banshee with the rocket launcher and you can skip have the level with no enemies.
Hm, maybe? The radar at the bottom left shows all red dots when yellow are allies, but maybe it's too far out of the distance to detect who is down there? I'm thinking that you can still see no matter what but maybe I'm wrong
why yes i will watch a video about someone playing Halo CE at 3 in the morning, almost always. you must understand, me and my sisters spent SO MUCH TIME up at way too late at night roaming the maps and looking for things. We found a lot of creepy faces.
It does. I've been manipulating Banshees to run down their own ground troops for over 20 years. There are several places in AotCR and TB where they can be set up to do that, but it takes a little time and effort.
Stumbling on this vid coincidentally at around 3am. Guess im turnin my pc back on for the night Shout out to the titanfall mention, always dope stumbling on other pilots
This level has a bunch of weird exploits, I was able to fall below the bridge and run through the rest of the level passing a ton of triggers spawning enemies so the rest of the level was barren
I think its the same reason marines bash the player consistently with the Ghost, they're still treated as on foot when not in attack mode, so they regroup to a player or friendly's position, with no regard with what they're doing.
If you play this level on two player in the original game, you can jump down, and spawn your teammate onto a ledge that's close enough to the ground to jump down. When you do this, you find that the game hasn't spawned in the enemies, and you can walk through a significant portion of the game in peace, and even get yourself a banshee. Keeeping that banshee once you resume normal play is another matter, but you can fly around the level.

So theres a chance you might have directly caused that banshee to splatter that elite without realizing
EDIT: For clarification, I'm no speedrunner and i don't know exactly how any of this works, so i could be completely wrong. So treat this as a theory
I thought that. So I reloaded the checkpoint and was walking up and down the bridge to see if it would follow me and it was unresponsive. The only time the banshee cared about me is if I shot it, then it would fly up. In the video I was stationary, so my movement shouldn't have affected him.
you're probably right, I think even in the speedrunning trick they need the banshee to be aware of the player first before their movements affect them, most likely something else is going on then.
not gonna talk about how the elite did a infinite symbol ???????????
3am evil spirits playing the npcs. Nuff said
liked and subscribed.
I don't know what your other videos are like but you set the bar high.
We need that guy who looks at the level script to review what's going on
flying ai break when they don't have proper firing positions and pretty sure move positions.
This sounds like a question for GeneralKidd
I miss these days. I found out that after you cross the ice tunnel when you get out of the tank. You go up the ramp with a rocket launcher and jump on this rock on the left I believe. You zoom in with it and jump to see over the hill. Flip the banshee with the rocket launcher and you can skip have the level with no enemies.
Been playing ce for 20yrs and never seen anything like that
Halo AI is becoming sentient mate
When you embark on a greater journey
Maybe a marine ally had taken control of the Banshee somehow
Hm, maybe? The radar at the bottom left shows all red dots when yellow are allies, but maybe it's too far out of the distance to detect who is down there? I'm thinking that you can still see no matter what but maybe I'm wrong
@@RadicalBlur Yeah but I can see some faint green dots at around 0:53 into the video
@@vgmasta5348 True, probably is an ally
Can't remember its was so long ago since I play the game
The game is looking very nice still with some RTGI and specular effects. I was able to push it 8K with a 7900XTX and it's looking great for its age.
I thought the banshee was following your reticle for a moment xD
When you have that 1 co-worker who you absolutely hate!
Oh, wait! Is that also where you get the Marines, and they stay and get call for evac by foe hammer? Maybe it's marines?
Oh yeah, I've seen that exact thing waaaay back in like 2004.
Ah so we’re all replaying the classic halos rn
why yes i will watch a video about someone playing Halo CE at 3 in the morning, almost always.
you must understand, me and my sisters spent SO MUCH TIME up at way too late at night roaming the maps and looking for things. We found a lot of creepy faces.
I've seen this in h3. It's similar to betraying your own team. The ai can trigger eachother, but it is very rare and normally very brief.
More than 20 years later and people are still finding things in this game lmao...Also I related to you about playing the game to reminisce. Cheers
That's funny. He worted his last wort wort.
bungee was funny showing they got mad at each other. they were also losing at this point, frustration was mounting...
Is this unique to the chief collection? We need to see if this happens in Halo CE as well.
It does. I've been manipulating Banshees to run down their own ground troops for over 20 years. There are several places in AotCR and TB where they can be set up to do that, but it takes a little time and effort.
Stumbling on this vid coincidentally at around 3am. Guess im turnin my pc back on for the night
Shout out to the titanfall mention, always dope stumbling on other pilots
This level has a bunch of weird exploits, I was able to fall below the bridge and run through the rest of the level passing a ton of triggers spawning enemies so the rest of the level was barren
Right you've sold it to me imma play halo ce at 3 o'clock in the morning this weekend! Oh and nice assault rifle 💜
"Screw you, I wanted the banshee!"
*Proceeds to splatter teammate
"Get rekt noob"
"Do you want to boot n0sc0pe42069?"
23 years on and the AI are going rampant
Did you notice how the banshee was making the infinity symbol while flying?
He was caught boning a grunt
The conversation went like this
Elite1: wort wort wort
Elite 2: wort wort wort
Elite 1: haaaaaaaaaaa *gets in banshee*
Sometimes it might the marines that you left them before. Probably they manage to hijack the banshee
Maybe its a little trick from the developers to add randomness and some delay to the banshee when he attack the player ? Don't know...
