  • From the SPER archives. Footage taken by the late Ben Parle of the farewell tour held by SPER in February 1960 commemorating the closure of both the iconic Bondi and the Bronte tram services. The tour was held in P class tram 1497, now preserved at Loftus and still available in museum service on occasion.

Thanks I never travelled on the Bondi tram but I rode the second last tram to La Perouse. I was a regular commuter on the La Perouse tram and it cost me a silver thrupence (if I could not bluff the tram conductor). If I managed to dodge the fare I would buy myself a vanilla slice with mock cream.

Brisbane and Melb kept their trams; now we have reintroduced them.

Small correction, Brisbane closed its tramway system in April 1969 (without a replacement)
