There is exactly one video on the internet that gives me ASMR. This is that video.
Same, only reason I watch the video.
same here
There's something relaxing about this whole video
haha I agree. A great video! I was so relaxed, just sitting back watching Max get a nice close shave. ha
Maybe it is ASMR? Look it up, I just found out there's a whole community for relaxing, tingling videos.
Holy crap! Thanks for that. Now I have this whole new world of asmr to delve into...
The barber's voice is soooooo relaxing. And I love how he dealt with the host's shit so well. I loved this episode.
The sexual tension in this video was unreal.
i like how they had a traditional barber conversation too lol
That was bad ass. That guy would be a dope barber to go to.
A guy named straight edge on a show sponsored by beer.
This was the best one of these so far. Max is much funnier when he isn't getting in the way of what the guy was saying, and this time he definitely got a chuckle out of me.
I love the host! He's so goofy, I feel like he'd be really fun to know in real life
I don't understand why so many people are hating on Max. I think he's doing a pretty great job with the material he has to work with. I haven't really found any of the things so far very interesting in and of themselves, but I come back for more because of his interactions with the guests.
ya know, i'm actually gonna miss these "be more interesting" videos since this was the 8th of 8. its really cool to learn new things like this
This is the last one of these? Bummer! I really enjoyed them. I'd like to see more, in fact. Good job, Mental Floss.
Haha, the end!
"So is this what you do in the mornings?"
"Oh, I use an electric razor."
I like these videos and the host isn't bad. Just has a very different sense of humor.
Can I shave my legs like this?
I really enjoyed this series and I think Max is great! This guest had great chemistry with him and I think that made all the difference. You go, Max!
I actually laughed out loud on this one. I like this little series.
Straight Edge Kevin was so laid back and cool! And this was a strangely hypnotic video for some reason.
He doesn't look half bad with that clean shave. I also love the dude that was shaving his face. He was hilarious.
I love watching a man shave. I've always found it fascinating ever since I was little.
I'm so glad the shaving dude had a good sense of humor.
I loved this episode. I am really going to miss these.
I liked this little series. The host has got a fair bit of criticism, but I like his sense of humor.
I have watched this video over and over, only because the master barber Kevin has such a soothing voice...
usually watching people shaving gives me the heebiejeebies, but that dude was so relaxing that i didn't get creeped out by the razor... except for when max would start talking. while the razor was on his throat. hahaha
He is like one of those old barbers you see in movies that have a nice relaxing voice and own a small barber shop... just in young .
There needs to be more of this! D: This is such an amazing series. Please put more out! I know this is 8 of 8 but... :C Please?
"is this pretty close to what you do for yourself in the morning?"
"...nah, I use ah electric razor."
Lolz
Awesome series! Please do more of these!
"is this pretty close to what you do in the morning?"
"oh, I use an electric razor."
hahaha, perfect response!
I've replayed this video soooooooooo many times. I just need Straight-Edge Kevin to release an album. Frankly he could be talking about anything from baseball to the most economical hookers and I would listen/be soothed.
Things ain't nobody got time fo:
1. Dat.
Love Mental Floss, but pretty done with these men-only segments.
i really enjoyed this series, thanks max!
I actually liked this one a lot better than the other episodes in the series..
This was actually pretty awesome. I've always wondered how this worked.
Did you notice that the barber was the only one of the people in the videos who didn't hold a beer at the end?
Those meetings really paid off
Well, I'd guess the next customer would be pleased to know that his barber is sober when he's holding a very sharp blade next to his throat.
His name is straight edge Kevin ;)
Lol, this is the only gut badass enough to refuse to hold a beer at the end.
I really enjoyed this series!
I would like to see this series continued.
Does "part 8 of 8" mean we're not going to see these anymore? That is overwhelmingly sad. More Max, please!
"No no...she's Anne Hathaway, she's doing alright."
Man, that was a great laugh first thing in the morning, thanks.
I actually found this entertaining
That is one smart shave. Nice result.
Max looked so much younger after his shave!!
This kicks that archery video, that tightroping video's asses. THIS is how you be more interesting.
AHahah the subtlety of the product placement is so hilarious
Love these. Keep em coming.
Amen to that, brother. And I say that as a one-time webmaster for a bus company who had "pubic transit" sitting on the home page for a day and a half...
Informative and entertaining...as always.
Max: "Are there people that tell your future by your beard?"
Kevin: "I'm gonna punch you if you don't shut up."
This was so... relaxing...
xD That clean shave really suits him!
I've been straight razor shaving for a while, and all of the sources I've dealt with have suggested three passes for the closest shave- with the grain, across the grain, then against the grain for finishing.
Personally I find that my skin feels softer since using the straight razor- though this could have more to do with the higher quality shaving lather I use.
If the videos are funded by this, then I'm totally all for it.
That was awesome and really interesting, I should get one of those badger hair things.
I enjoy this series
That was a really informative video. Nice.
keep the series going!
Wow, that was pretty fascinating. Thanks.
The long solid body 'cut-throat' razor that needs stropping (sharpening on a piece of leather) is different to the one a barber will use today. The one that Kevin was using has a replaceable blade that inserts into the body. This ensures that time isn't wasted on stropping, the blade will always be sharp and hygiene standards are maintained. Do a search for double edge blades, the same as you would for a safety razor (you snap it in half for your straight edge).
That Barber is the coolest dude I have seen
"Oh I use an electric razor" "oh, perfect"
Wow. That is the most creative spelling of "throat" I've ever seen!
I like how he was the only guy who didn't hold the beer at the end of the segment.
"it was Anne Hathaway actually...she's doing great". I actually laughed for the first time this whole series.
This has always been my dream to have this done to me.
Barber man has a nice soothing voice
I tried to get into straight razor shaving over a year ago.I both top of the line razor for $175, $60 badger brush (im allergic to), $70 strop, Strop paste, Shaving cream/bowl, etc... He is using a Feathered straight razor where you replace the blades. If you use a regular straight razor you have to know how to sharpen/ hone/ and strop it. I cant get my razor sharp enough to shave so I suggest replaceable straight razor blades (very cheap) so you don't have to sharpen and expect 20+ min a shave.
Max, you clean up nicely.
me + straight razor= slit jugular
That razor guy is bangin'.
I have that exact badger hair brush and bowl. Its great.
Woo! The barber didn't hold the beer at the end!
My dad shaved with a straight razor for a long time, and he talked about how in his dorm his room mate had one of the disposable ones, so he decided to try that because his straight razor needed to be sharpened. He never used the straight razor again.
I think Max is hilarious. In fact, I want mental_floss to incorporate more Max and WheezyWaiter.
I like this barber guy, he's got style.
The barber spared the life of the general.
About 15 years ago had to grow a beard for a part in a play and Lord, did I hate it! (Seriously, beard fans, how do you tolerate the non-stop itchiness?) So to celebrate the end of the run I had my barber shave it off with a straight-edge razor. Could not BELIEVE the difference between a straight-edge and the usual disposable-blade shave! Smoother than the proverbial baby's butt--and didn't need to shave again for three days. Definitely worth it.
sabering, ripping phone books, fire starting, tightropes, breaking boards, archery, straight shaves... can we have more of these? Dos Equis doesn't even have to sponsor it
The guest was pretty flippin' awesome. I'd like to see him get more screen time somehow.
you can buy them almost any where wallgreens cvs or local super market just look for safety razor blades.
Good question, I was just thinking the same!
I've shaved my legs with a friend's straight razor before, made me feel ultra tough.
Well done, sir or madam. Best is the simplest.
It's really hard to cut yourself unless you swipe it sideways. It can be a little awkward to hold and shave yourself with a straight razor, at least I found it was. I use a safety razor and get a shave ten times better than I ever got with cartridges. Blades are also about 10c each, too, so after the initial outlay for the handle it's incredibly cheap.
its about procrastination, its a very good way to be more interesting :D
I use a safety razor and a badger hair brush for a wet shave, I keep a 'mach 5' for emergencies, or if I've get way too much time or no money and I need the back of my neck shaved after allowing a trusted friend cut my hair.
I want more videos with Max
I use a straight razor on my face every time I shave. I take care of the edges of my beard and then I bring in the four blade. It's more time consuming but you'll never get a result just using regular razors.
Damn! I thought this was going to be the final episode when Max Silvestri gets his throughout slit Sweeney Todd style!
Want true throwback manliness? Grow a beard.
This barber is a boss
The best of the bunch
Yes. Women used to go to the barber who would shave their legs with a straight razor.
I'm in the same boat. At least some shaving tips from here could be useful, like using shaving cream and shaving with the grain. Maybe this could by me a few days of not having to shave my legs.
it takes about a second for normal moist skin to heat up to the point of it taking damage from a small flame. Dry hair on the other hand takes almost no time at all to reach flash point. haven't you ever run your finger through a candle flame?
Dude gave him two decent sized cuts. One on his right moustache area, one on his lower lip line. Check it at 4:36, you can see the blood. Nice.
You're right.... huh.... a strange oversight on Mental Flosses part.
Omg he's like " is this what you do in the mornings? Then he goes no I use an electric razor.lolol I was like facepalm
There is a part 7 it's in the playlist, but for some reason never showed up in the normal video list. It was uploaded on Oct. 2nd.
