I played up in Gainesville Florida at Ironwood golf club this morning, and on hole # 6 par 3-188 yards/ flag in the middle of the green, and I’ve been taking a shorter stance with my feet about a foot and a half wide and I hit my 7/iron over the flag off the green to the right 10 yards.. It is so true when you swing smooth / how much power is generated with your irons/ par 5 - 525 driver and 5 wood smooth swing middle of the green. These instructors know a little about golf🧤🧤👌💓💕❤️
AlexElliottGolf, I enjoy your videos. I am an 7-8 handicap, player from the white tees. I watched your videos on grip and the one using the split hand swing drill. This past wk end, those were my only two swing thoughts period. I shot 72, 76 consecutively. I hope my mind and body can continue to remember such. I just watched this video and cannot wait to practice this. Thanks for you videos! You have a wonderful way of teaching, in an easy to understand and take to the range/course fashion. Keep those hints coming.
I learned to hit a 7 iron far, by only carrying a 7 while walking my dog and playing the par 5s and par 4s Back swing, weight shift, ball position, and staying low through the swing really helped. I’ve gone 200 yds and 25yds depending on the situation. Best way to practice and learn.
This is exactly my issue - standing up and adding loft. It also causes me to outside-in swing and fade my irons. I'm going to take this info from your video and hit the range. I'm excited to try this out as I already get my 7 iron going between 155-165 carry, but the flight is so high. Looking forward to getting that penetrating ball flight. Thanks Alex
I like this tip..Im about 145 with my 7. I know when I miss hit and I get a right block, but occasionally I will catch it pure and it will go 160 +. this might be they key to that. Plus! we wear the same Pumas lol
Alex, you are a great coach, very clear. FYI, we saw Phil M. warm up exactly this way here in US during his pregame before his Masters round. I use my 7 iron distance to gauge distance control for my other irons during warm up: usually 150 yards but it can be 145 or 155 any given day.
Was playing around with a similar concept at the range today.... I was moving the ball forward and back in my stance and found out that forward I was hitting my PW 95y - 110 and back in my stance 140y - 150....nice little trick to use in the wind and with different terrains....will definitely be adding this to my options
Oddly, I hit my irons further, and higher, with the ball forward. I agree with putting the ball back in the stance with some wind shots. Wondering why you hit it so much further with the ball back in the stance?
Hi Alex. Got out on the course today and put some of your ideas into practice. Particularly the downward pull of the shoulder turn and the downward line of the swing. Pleased to say I hit some proper iron shots instead of shanks. Cheers.
Hi Alex, just finished 18 today up here in Minnesota. Even though golf comming to end of season, I would like some drills or whatever you can suggest for me to stop the chunking my wedges. Thanks, AE.
I currently pull out the 7i for a 160-165 shot. I do tend to add loft. Mostly hit high weak fade shots. Would love to lower the flight or even hit less weak fades.
That’s not a bad distance. But a major indication of adding loft is your impact position. You gotta film yourself face on and find out if you’re adding loft. Or are you compressing the shot with a forward shaft lean and hands ahead on the leading leg. I know 100% because I film my swing face on all the time and I am adding loft to everything and my hands are on my trail leg.
@@teddythodo3302 for sure thanks. Yeah i know for sure i add loft even without filming. I have a tendency to release the club early. With all clubs. I hit them fairly straight but i cant ever hit a draw unless its very handsie shot
@@AlexElliottGolf Tried this at the range today..a lot of positive results. Irons travelling 10-15 yards further. However, due to bowing of the wrist, a lot went left. Work to do but the signs are good..
Hi Alex. It's frustrating but if I ever swing with "hands ahead" in mind it's a sure fire thought to start shanking!!! Why in making this move my hands also move out from my body towards the golf ball has mystified me for the last 20 years.
Alex, love your videos, short and to the point. My problem is swing speed (low 70s) which produces about 140sh carry. Any advice or drill to increase swing speed? (Sometimes, I can hit at 86mph but not on regular basis.)
Exactly what I was trying to work on today, compressing my irons, stop standing up on the ball and playing catch up flipping the hands through. None of my quick fixes/methods worked! I will try this tomorrow, great videos as always.
@@AlexElliottGolf dynamic loft is what I struggle with most in my iron play turn my 7i into a 9i at times adding loft 😩 going to get the 52 & 7i out 100 balls and grind 👌🏼 can’t wait 👊🏼
I managed to take loft off with the half shots and carried them around same distance as my normal full shots but the obviously ran out longer. Only problem is when I go back to the fuller shots I start adding loft again 😩 I’ll keep grinding and I’ve book in with my coach next wk to have a look 👍 thanks for the great content pal
This is a great drill. Just tried this on the practice ground and when I got it right, admittedly not every time, the ball was drilling into the wind 👍
Honestly, if you are a weekend/leisure golfer and you are consistently hitting a 7 iron straight for around 150 yards, I wouldn’t change a thing. I am hitting my 7 iron 130-ish and inconsistently and I need an overhaul of my entire swing.
I hit my 7 iron 200 and it goes straight up in the air. I also come over the top and have early extension. Even though it goes far I’m still upset knowing my swing has all those flaws.
My 7 is any where from 150 to 170 yards depending on where it comes off the face of the club. Not always getting a good strike is my problem and one club like my 6 can range from 160 to 195 yrds (carry)
@@AlexElliottGolf Thnx. And.. will do.. this friday i will tell you all about my progress.. thank you for your tips, they're more then welcome here in the Netherlands.
At the range I hit 7 iron exactly 170 but get out on the coarse probably hitting 150 tbh. 6 iron I was hitting 195 I can’t even hit it on the coarse but like 100 yards idk why
I carried a 2 handicap for several years. If I couldn't carry my 7 iron 180, then I wasn't even trying. I watched Joey Sindelar practice with his 7 and carry 210. It is all in the swing and not the club. John Daly could hit his PUTTER well over 200, but that's John. Ken Venturi once said nobody has got any business trying to hit a wedge over 100 yards. Current pros commonly carry a sand wedge well over 100 with no effort at all. It's ALL IN THE SWING.
It’s not just about loft. It’s literally a swing flaw if your hands are not forward and not compressing the irons correctly. There’s room for topped and fats, and all other sorts of issues just because our hands are not forward enough with the correct compression. I’m currently suffering through this now and it’s a giant pain to fix and get rid of, but I am determined.
