I think airline pilots are incredible for the amount they need to know but let's have a shout out to all the programmers who make the software so people can fly like pilots.
Actually coding all these systems, custom FMC's, flight dynamics without a lot of bugs and with good amount of optimization is harder than being airline pilot in terms of amount of things they need to know. Even pilots don't know 100% how those FMCs function (if they didn't want to learn by themselves of course). Also algorithm solving part with these aircraft systems are really compicated and hard to do without huge amount of bugs. They really deserve the respect.
Designing robust, fault-tolerant embedded systems requires a totally different mindset than most commercial software engineering. Zero percent tolerance of bugs, and system degradation/failures must be “graceful.” A very different mindset - more like “five 9’s” (99.999%) telecom system design than “Windows apps.”
Can't thank you enough for these videos. I just got the 777 today and wrote down pages of notes from your videos. I did a successful flight from Denver to San Francisco on my first try, ILS landing into SFO as well. This is a whole different beast then the 737 but I love it!
This is hands down the best tutorial from a real pilot I have seen since I started simming 2+ years ago. I had no idea the 777 descent would be so different from other airliners. This video is a godsend. Great work!
Hey quick tip for you on the minimums knob.... Hold down the mouse to turn the knob, then drag it out while holding to the far left or right depending on direction and your minimums numbers will roll in much faster.
took me a week to get my head around the 777 but thanks to this video and replaying it a fair few times i have conducted dozens of flights in the pdmg 777, i just hope it will be compatable wih msfs 2024
This is a great video! I flew the 777 today and had a great flight, BUT, my landing was a bit off, I learned some things from this that will help me along the way....Thank you so much!!
Just wanted to say your videos have helped me alot. I've got the coldstart/takeoff all sorted on 777-300ER thanks to you. Getting use to the decent and landing though I do struggle with the approach throwing it into the FMC which causes me to go manual. ILS landings I am trying, end up almost doing a full manual up until today where it locked the G/S in. I am continuing to give it a good go but really wanted to let you know how helpful your videos are. Thank you very much!!
I just wanted to say a massive thank you for doing this and all of your videos, I have learned so much and I am really enjoying flying the airbus and the 777 - thank you again!
Great tutorial. What I love most about the PMDG 777 is everything works the way it should. I found myself doing work arounds on the Asobo 78 for things that wouldn't engage. Will you do a video on a 777 engine out profile? :)
Just wanted to say a huge thanks to you sir - these videos are immensely helpful for all of us learning these planes. I really appreciate your efforts and contribution!
Thank you so much. Your explanations are just on point. Even though this is a complex topic to explain, you made it very simple for and, I am sure for many others as well. I have watched this tutorial for at least the third time whilst inflight.
No, thank you sir for making the video. Invaluable information and time taken. Made me appreciate Boeing in a whole different way. It's like Going from iOS to Android - if you can say it that way haha.
If you select TWIP Request enter your landing airport and select PMDG you will get metar and Taf reports for the airport displayed on the center eicas and on the lower mfd. FYI.
Little trick for the lazies: display meters along with altitude and it will show the approximate distance you need on a 3 degree glide. No need to use dead reckoning there 😊
Great content, thanks! Helping me immensely learning this new aircraft, always preferred Airbus, but this bird looks a dream to fly once I get to grips with it!
Thank you for all your expert tutorials and interesting insight into all things on the flight deck. I really appreciate your work. Question..have you done (and have I missed it) a piece on calibrating the TM Boeing yoke for the T7? I found it fine for the B78 but find myself pulling significant back pressure to mobilise the elevator. (It’s hard enough for me to get used to using a yoke being a bus driver)! Missing my tray table too! 😉
Great tutorials. Could you please make one for engine failure and fuel dump. Had problems with getting the beast in to a holding pattern and during the fuel dump I got a fuel imbalance.
Glad you enjoyed it! The thrust ratings are the limits for the engines. You can’t run engines at takeoff thrust for a long time, so they have a limit of climb thrust instead, which will be allowed for a much longer period of time. Hope that helps!
@@320SimPilot thanks a lot really helped to make me understand, however, say if I am running a de rated takeoff of simply TO, how would I know what thrust rating to put for takeoff?
@@SMN435there is a performance calculator Tool on the pmdg 777 on the EFB where it tells you for example TO2 that means youre going to take-off with reduced thrust u just Need to put in the demanded data

Idk if anyone knows or will see this, but at 40:04 how do I set up my controls to walk around the cabin like that? If anyone know or has a video they recommend, drop the name and around when it was posted I'll find it. Thanks!
Thank you 320simpilot for your videos! Greetings from Austria!:) Just a quick question.. i am going to fly to greece in 2 weeks and i just wanted to ask if it is okay to ask the crew/pilots after landing to take a photo in the cockpit ( i mean i would stay in my seat and will wait till all other passengers left the plane so i am the last in the "queue") or would that be too weird? What would u do in the case :) have a nice day
Thank you so much for the super thanks! Being able to speak to the pilots after a flight is not always possible, but often they are happy to. I would recommend asking the cabin crew as you disembark, that you would like to see the cockpit/pilots if possible. I hope you have a great time in Greece!
it lands like a dream ive landed that thing with every alarm in the cockpit going off ,all out of wack to high to fast to much sink rate but have always landed safely its a sim i can do that
Wouldn’t you need to tune into atis at the arrival airport for info about what runways are being used for departures and arrivals due to the winds there?
You would more than likely receive that information from ATC, i think the layout of this tutorial was more of an "Assume we have all the instructions and Information" type of deal 😉
As I understood you dont touch thrust levers during landing? I move it to idle and msybe that is the reason of my problem with a/t not disconnecting after touchdown and reversers binding not working... How about your a/t override settings in mcdu?
A little question. Where do you place your physical throttle lever when landing with autopilot? My reversers aren’t reliable with the 777, kinda hit and miss, and just trying to eliminate things.
Thanks, one question though! What replay Tool do you use, so that the flight controll surfaces, the tilted landing gear and all the other details show up? Since PMDG use their own codes the standard replay tool doesnt recognize these for me. Thanks!
Every ILS ive done its really unstable, seems like a bug with the throttle, it over corrects then the plane starts chasing the diamond up n down, and starts dropping the nose as you approach touchdown. Yours seemed stable though, not sure what is going on?!
I did a couple of flights with the 777 now and every time when just sticking to the VNAV routing it is overshooting the FAF by a few hundred feet and the plane refuses to catch the Glideslope if not perfectly vertically aligned. Bug or feature?
If I was given a shortcut to a waypoint/VOR by ATC during the descent and was asked to be at a certain FL or altitude at it, before excepting that I can meet that restriction is there a way through the FMC and ND screen to confirm i can meet the restriction?
How do you select which flaps to use? I see that it defaults to 25, is there a reason for that? Is flaps 30 only used in calm conditions or when runway length requires it?
Does anyone know why my 777 suddenly loses speed during cruise to just above stall speed and my altitude reduces, Vnav pth also has a yellow line going through it
if one were to have a look at my Infinite Flight log one would find every single flight is in the triple seven.... even in a game is trivial as Infinite Flight it's still the best aircraft ever built… Bet

Great vid 320!
In the P3D version the plane slows down automatically for the approach. It shows a green dot on the route path.
It does in MSFS as well, as he mentioned ... but safer to take control of speed so that flaps can be correctly co-ordinated with speed.

For some reason, my bird does not descend by itself in VNAV, even after setting the altitude. It just flies right by T/D
