One of the purposes of the F22 electronics and weapons packages is to virtually eliminate the likelihood of getting into a close-in dogfight in the first place. It can detect and ID aircraft from over 200 miles away, and ideally can "take out" an enemy aircraft before the enemy even knows the F22 is there. While a dogfight is possible, it's not the most probable threat to an F22 on any given mission.

Typhoon is a great 4th Gen fighter for sure. High maneuverability, very good offensive and defensive tech onboard. It should not be underestimated. The F22 though is in another generation completely. TV and Stealth combined with its BVR effectiveness and you have the clear advantage over the Typhoon. Not saying that it couldn’t happen. It could in some specific circumstances where the Typhoon was able to negate all of the F22s advantages, yes. But then that would be the same for any fighter. Otherwise, 99 out 100 to the Raptor.

The problem is $'s & cents. What good is a fighter, if you can't AFFORD IT, IN ANY WAY YOU LOOK AT IT????
The original order of F-22's was cut, over half of the order. Hence the F-15X's. The only way the F-35 survived, they were allowed to sell to our allies. Look, before you too call me a commie, I love my country. My family has been here longer than the US has existed. I served 6 great years. Loved it. Learned SOOO MUCH. Some of my buddies died in the Middle East. I miss them to this day.
BUT, my common sense has gotten me this far in life. I know this, when you cannot afford something, then you're unable to use it, so it's no good to you. We do not have enough F-22, or F-35 to defend America. Are they cool? Duh! Yeah. We have the brightest and best people. Where we fall short, common sense. The next great American fighter will come. It just hasn't been built yet. Stealth is not the answer. During Desert Storm, we were told the F-117, a bomber, not a fighter, was completely invisible to radar. After one was shot down with old Russian tech, they were force to walk that back. Situational awareness, the ability tosort it all out, manuverability, and the ability to carry enough weapons in order to fight to win, BEAT stealth. All current stealth fighters do not have the capability to carry the proper weapon load to the fight, and remain at top stealth ability. So, the biggest, most expensive part, has now been compramised. That is waisted money. As for Thrust Vectoring- well, they first tested that on early models of the F-15. We had that capability since the late 1970's. A product of our space program. It was used on all Apollo missions. The Ruskies had it too. They just brought theirs to an air show first. Thrust vectoring should have been put on every US fighter from the F-14-the F-18. Wasted tech. All cighters after the F-4 Phantom could've been that much better, and that far ahead of the world. Build what you can afford-THAT INCLUDES ALL OPERATING COST, train the best to be the best, victory will be ours. Our military training has been 2nd to NONE. IT'S THE PEOPLE WHO WIN THE WARS. As long as you keep politics OUT of the equasion. As long as our military is allowed to do the job they've been trained to do- WE WIN. After Korea, Vietnam, I thought we had learned our lesson. I thought Desert Storm proved it. Then, 20 years in the Middle East, we took 3, or 4 steps back.

    • @TheJTcreate
      @TheJTcreate 2 года назад

@@briantaylor8197 Brian, most of the enemy world out there is in the same predicament as you are complaining about concerning the USA. The Russians have developed the Su57. They can't afford it. In fact, their entire aviation sector can't generate the R&D nor the manufacturing capacity of one western corporation. So that means, they haven't created a new airframe from scratch since the Soviet era. China is not much better. Their pilots are not at the level of western counterparts. Be careful when you start talking about quantity. When it comes to the air warfare, quantity is not its own quality, and the Japanese found that out the hard way at the end of WW2. Planes are not like tanks, trucks and infantry. You can park a tank anywhere, get out, hide in a bush, jump someone passing by and fight hand to hand if needed. You can't park a plane in the sky, get out, hide in some clouds and jump someone passing by. So flight and evading skills and physical qualifications are extremely necessary for survival. Otherwise anything you send up will just be a lamb for slaughter. Your pilots need to be up to the challenge of the fight, not just some body placed in a plane. Your planes need to be in top shape too. Otherwise you are just sending up pilots in their own deathtraps. As far as there not be enough F-35s and F-22s, there is a lot you don't understand. You are still thinking 20th century aerial combat when every pilot and plane is their own lone fighter within a team. You take off! AWACS tells you where to go. You point your nose in that direction. All you have is your own radar and your own weapons payload. When that is gone, you are useless and have to run home. The new future of aerial warfare is a collective form of fighting, not a singular form of fighting. An F-35 empty of weapons can still stay in the fight and still take part in killing bad guys, as part of a weapons and information collective.

I dont know how these guys can compare these 4th even 5th gen aircraft with the F22 its sort of like they have to compare everything as if theres no stealth on the F22. The stealth aspect of the F22 is better than 0.0001 radar cross section thats unheard of and means everything, you cant kill it if you cant lock on. Thats like the size of a spider, and its actually better than that. on top of which it super cruises at mach 1.8 with no after burners, nothing comes close i think the SU 57 can maybe do mach 1.3. But the real point here is comparing an f16's turn capability thrust capacity and maneuverability is totally worthless since it cant see the F22 on radar, cant lock on to it and cant catch it. And neither can anything made by China or Russia. Even their attempts to build stealth aircraft are silly since they have 2 large engines uncovered in the open that would need after burners to even keep up with the F22. Basically with the advanced avionics and radar capabilities the F22 will destroy just about all of them and never be seen. Nothing that exists now could even be able to lock on to it. even the F35 can overcome Russias famous s-400 missile batteries
Israeli's flew F-35's right over them and they never fired one missile. And lets get real they are comparing a new fighter to a 30 year old one. And their attempts at stealth are worthless with engines and armaments sticking out all over the place. Claiming it can kill the raptor is a joke. its supercruise is mack 1.5 its ceiling 65k i doubt it can turn better without thrust vectoring, and it cant kill what it cant lock on to period.

@@glennmonson5214 With respect you are wrong on this.. Concorde Very definitely super cruised at its cruise speed of Mach 2.04, at 60K feet with out afterburners. Had it had to use afterburners for anything other than very short phases of flight, it would not have had the range to fly trans Atlantic. Concorde had afterburners that were used during the take off, due to the load of the aircraft and also the fact that the wing design was of the Vortex Generator type, which creates high drag at low speeds due to it’s angle of attack requirement ( high alpha ).. The Afterburners were then shut down until the trans sonic phase of the flight, when they used to pass the. high drag trans sonic regime. ( They did not need to do this, but it allowed much quicker transition of this phase of the flight and allowed for a smoother passenger experience with less vibration. Once supersonic the Concorde shut down its afterburners and climbed to its operating altitude of 60K feet and cruise speed of Mach 2.04…for two and a half hours. If it had to use afterburner for anything other than very short phases of flight it would not have had the range to fly New York to London or Paris to Rio. ...There is one photograph taken of Concorde flying at supersonic speed. It was taken from a modified light weight recon Tornado west of Ireland. The Tornado, on full afterburner was unable to intercept the Concorde, which had to slow down to Mack 1.4 so the tornado could catch an film it flying at Mach 1.5. ..However, the Tornado could only hold this speed for 4 minutes because of the rate of fuel burn.. Concorde then accelerated away…without burners to a speed of Mach 2.04, to continue its flight to New York. The only other aircraft ever know to have intercepted Concorde in flight was a modified English Electric Lightening that could comfortably exceed Mach 2.50……This was also the same aircraft that did the recorded zoom climb to 88K feet.
supersonic transports (SST), Concorde, and the second version of the Tu-144 (the Tu-144D) spent most of their time cruising at their design speeds without needing afterburning. Afterburning was added to Concorde for take-off to cope with weight increases that came after the initial design. It was also used to accelerate through the high-drag transonic speed range, not because the extra thrust was required, but because it was available and improved the operating economics. The redesigned Tu-144D used engines with no afterburners which, together with other improvements, increased the full payload range from 3,080 to 5,330 km (1,910 to 3,310 mi) (Concorde's operational range was 6,470 km or 4,020 mi).

@@stallagiardino7877 Sorry Im not, you just dont understand what supercruise or mach means. And the way you use terms tells it.
Supercruise mean attainable without the use of afterburners And since the Concord always used afterburner for takeoff and to reach the altitude it needed to to claim mach 2.2 which is the fastest it ever went. Not only is that not its regular speed, but the Concord definitely needed afterburners to get takeoff altitude and its cruise altitude, which means it doesnt supercruise. Furthermore Mach the speed of sound changes with the temperature of the medium its traveling through.
On Earth, the speed of sound at sea level - assuming an air temperature of 59 degrees Fahrenheit (15 degrees Celsius) - is 761.2 mph (1,225 km/h).the Concord had a max speed of 1350 mph and thats with 4 Rolls Royce engines not 1. Now thats over 1522 mph which also tells me in order to reach mach 2.2 the Concord with a top speed of 1350 would half to be at 50,000 ft. And since it needed afterburners to get there, its not supercruising furthermore the Concord needs the use of afterburners for take off and to pass the mach barrier, only then can they be shut off, and only at 50,000 ft .So your comparing apples and oranges, its by no means an accurate or correct analogy.

Considering the age of the F-22, compared with the Eurofighter still gives good testimony for it's design. And its mission, though very capable of dog fighting, is primarily to drive deep into enemy territory to knock enemy air defenses and radar installations, to help establish air dominance in order to pave the way for conventional attack aircraft and bomber fleets to follow. If the F-22 does it "right" the Eurofighter will be shot down before it even knows it is being hunted. Once exposed the advantage will probably be in the Eurofighters court. The F-22 is getting a little long in the tooth for dog fighting but for her real mission of stealthy infiltration she still is unparalleled.

    • @gordonlawrence1448

Wrong. The Typhoon IRST can detect ANY stealth aircraft at a range of 60NM or more. The Radar works in several modes al the way from S to Ku band. The "stealth" methods of the USA such as RAM and contouring only work in X band. On top of that the Service ceilings for the F-22 and Typhoon (with the old engine) are the same but the AIM-120C (the F-22 cannot carry the AIM120D due to space restrictions) has a range of 57NM only in a launch high shoot down situation (at's at best 2/3 that flyiing level) but the Meteor has a "no escape" zone roughly that long flying level. The EF-2000 has a low RCS from using minimal metals. So the Typhoon would win as it can launch first. Why do you think Congress stopped production of the F-22 in 2011? It was because the RAF turned up to a "Red Flag" training event with Typhoons and ate them for breakfast after Congress had been told it was the best in the world. www.19fortyfive.com/2021/09/f-22-stealth-fighter-vs-eurofighter-typhoon-one-pilot-has-answers/

Ridiculous EURO hype. This is not a classical denial syndrome or typical trussle with conventional thinking, rather it invokes worry about the motivations.
    Politics infiltrates everything these days.
The F22 is the first fifth generation fighter defeating many of the previous expectations and setting a high bar. NGAD will be then first sixth generation doing the same things. This is all based on very strong technological DNA. The technology is basically superior.
The most important thing overlooked is that strategists decide the technology and capabilities. There is no such thing as a separation of TST and Fundamental strategy. US planes have lots of strategy built into the plane with many future operational, tactical, and strategical considerations emphasized in design. This is the real strength of plane design.
The reason stealth was invented and heavily invested by the US was based on tactical studies.
US Col. John Boyd made this distinction very clear in what is a very underestimated OODA loop concept. Undoubtedly, it was influential to warplane design. It is in many respects the first real theory close to scientific strategy. Ironically, fast looping societies (as a whole) with large tech-trees make better weapons. The true test is not what a group of liberally minded thunderheads think in terms of spec-on-spec divides but on the strategic effects of strategically derived and prognosticated technology on the battlefield.

Not only can the F-22 spot and shoot down any other Jet Fighter from beyond visual range, but the F-22 can fly circles around any of the European flying bricks mentioned. The F-22 is very old, yet still unsurpassed by any production aircraft today. If close in dogfighting were required, the F-22 has super maneuverability, with a sustained turn rate that other Jets just can't match. In simulations, and flight testing against all comers, the F-22 routinely fires all missiles and shoots down all advisories before they can even spot it. I was the CM Manager for the YF-22, and unlike the people that posted this misinformation, I know what I am talking about. The authors mentioned the F-16, but even the 50 year old F-15, US designed and built, has never lost an air to air engagement, unmatched 104 to 0 air to air kill ratio. European counties did not want to buy American aircraft because they suffer from "not invented here" syndrome. Still, from Sweden to France and Britain aviation, some nice looking, but second tier Jets are produced.

I commend many knowledgeable responders for their measured and polite replies to the hypothesis that the Typhoon is a match for the Raptor. Context is everything, is it not? The whole point of the Raptor design was to dispense of 4th gen aircraft before the fight started. Designed more than three decades ago, the F-22 remains peerless in that role. A flight of Typhoons would be out of action before they ever knew the Raptor was there. Dogfighting is something a pilot does when he has to. Every combat pilot is trained in basic fighter maneuvers, but that sort of action is inefficient and often strategically counterproductive. Air superiority is key, and Ukraine’s success against Russia on the ground is a consequence of Russia’s ineptness in joint force combat, including the effective use of airpower. The Raptor is part of a system, a doctrine of interdisciplinary warfare, intended to deny the enemy a vote in the outcome, while keeping the engagement short and decisive. The Typhoon is a great dog fighter. The Raptor was designed to eliminate dog fighters. Nuff said.

The F22 is not designed to dogfight, the idea that you should not bring a knife to a gun fight, a lot of fast maneuverable planes are designed as knife fighters and very good at it, the F22 is designed to kill the knife fighters long before they knew it was around. so the F22 doesn't need to be good at knife fighting.

The plane dosent have thrust vectoring
They don't use aspide or skyflash missiles, their outdated fox 1 types, they use now aim 120 or more commonly now meteors
The plane can also use irist missile

At one time this was a very tough plane. Now it’s outdated to much to be anything except a missile truck/carrier. And F22 or F35 would have to lead the way and use the missiles off these older planes that would never survive a contested airspace. This plane would light up a SAM system like a Christmas tree!!

Several times the narrator calls it the 'Tycoon'...got a laugh there. After the merge, the Eurofighter has a chance against the F-22, maybe 40/60 at the very best. No one has seen exactly what the F22 can do in BFM, most of the info is classified. The big thing is that the Eurofighter will never get in a merge with an F22, because it will die before the F22 is seen. :) Gorgeous aircraft, definitely tops at the moment. An F-22 killer....doubtful.

They forget to mention most important thing in dogfight, and that's PILOT SKILL, when pilot isn't well skiled and trained, than no matter in which plane he is, he'll lose fight. All that we seen that in Iraq for example...

    • @MrMichaelBCurtis
      @MrMichaelBCurtis 2 года назад +1

that they mention dogfight at all is the problem with this video, F22 is designed to kill LONG before a dogfight even looks promising

"...The EJ200 engine has the potential to be fitted with a thrust vectoring control (TVC) nozzle, which the Eurofighter and Eurojet consortium have been actively developing and testing, primarily for export but also for future upgrades of the fleet. TVC could reduce fuel burn on a typical Typhoon mission by up to 5%, as well as increase available thrust in supercruise by up to 7% and take-off thrust by 2%..."

This is a promotional video especially made to justify India's purchase of this junk.
Truth of the matter is, adding one more platform to India's already illogically diverse fleet would be a senseless waste of ten billion+ dollars, and would create a mindlessly complicated logistical and personnel training nightmare. Oh, that, and also, this aircraft is also an unproven, overpriced, obsolete junk.

Dog-fighting is the realm of 4th Gen Fighters and the Rafael doesn't have the RCS to tangle with 5th Gen Fighters. Long Range Air to Air Missile Swarms from distance is the 5th Gen Combat Environment. IRST is great that you can identify the target, but using it as a Fire Control lock for your missiles, good luck with that! Red Flag Exercises have shown the Superiority of 5th Gen Fighters vs 4th Gen Fighters!

When naming countries that fly the Eurofighter, the narratorreferred to England as one of the nations flying the aircraft. That was improperly stated. England is only a component part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are the political entities of the United Kingdom. They are one nation and should be properly referred to as that. That mistake causes me to doubt the accuracy of the entire video.

4:58 I'm sorry mate but the PANAVIA Tornado was a pan European program led jointly by UK with Germany and Italy also in the program. It was only the UK that developed and used the Air Defense Variant,(ADV) of the Tornado.
The Euro-fighter Typhoon, Known only as the RAF Typhoon in the UK, the best variant, was a British led program for an Air Dominance Aircraft,(ADA) or Air dominance fighter interceptor and now ground attack Close Air Support interdiction deep strike maritime defense and attack aircraft within the UK RAF, as I said the best version of all.
It was a BAE systems led project, a BAE design that was finally adopted by all partners because it met all standards and requirements of all partners nations and even more so after the collaboration finally came together nicely to give us am amazing aircraft.
More about the Typhoon, it can also use the Storm shadow deep strike ground attack missile, as well as the METEOR BVR for beyond visual range long distance engagements and also the MART ER Air launched anti ship missile, and Brimstone 3 missiles for fast attack craft and fast vehicles moving up to 70mph, dumb and guided bombs as well as US weaponry too.
    Awesome aircraft. 🇬🇧
