Brompton cocktail is a mix of alcohol, cocaine and morphine. Was use as an elixir to relieve pain and was created at Brompton Hospital in London. So yeah, kind of related to Brompton cemetery 😂

White Album is peak Avenged Sevenfold for me. They started to include more modern sounds, but still rooted with City of Evil sounds. Great album

Yes, this is from the self titled album, so Rev was still alive and actually wrote this song and others on the album.
You should check out blinded in chains by them next. Awesome grooves, and the craziest breakdown and transitions they've done in my opinion. Great song
I love y’all’s reactions so much! If you remember in The Rev’s last song, Fiction, he says “not that I could, or I would, let it burn, under my skin, let it burn”. That’s one of my favorite things about A7X is that some of their songs mesh into others, or they bring the closure lost in some songs into others. Self euthanasia is legal in The Netherlands. I watched a documentary the other day about a 23 year old girl who opted to end her life due to depression and they followed her as she planned her own funeral and what not. Crazy.
Just goes to show how great avenged sevenfold is. All sorts of different genre fans love A7X. Yes the Rev was in this.

The Rev had a heart condition that he knew was going to take his life in a certain amount of time. So a lot of the songs he wrote and you'll hear that sounds down or dealing with death, was him preparing and facing what he knew would come sooner than most people would think about facing. He worked hard on the last album before his death to be sure to get it done and to make it a killer album, no pun intended. He was amazing and will always be one of the best drummers and writers around. Much of his work is in all their songs. And almost every song of theirs bangs and could be a metal hit in it's own way. One of the best bands ever, and don't even get started on Synyster Gates, best guitarist other than Slash, imo.

Adding to previous comment! The Rev was in the album (he wrote a lot for it). Definitely not his suicide note though, this was written a few years before he passed

this is one of their most slept on songs imo. numbers wise and when i hear people talk about avenged in forums/comments, i never hear enough love for this one. such a great groove and it's a great great showcase of Matt's vocals

The drums in the verses in the song were actually inspired by hip-hop. With the double on the hihats
The Rev wrote this...when I listen to it, I a not so sure he died from an "accidental" overdose. There is more than one song to indicate this. Especially "Fiction." A Brompton cocktail is a "cocktail" given to primarily cancer patients to help them with pain. But the song basically states to mix it strong - meaning overdose levels.
What I've found through research the Rev wrote this song 10 yes before he passed. Rumors said he used this to move on!? Not sure how much is true? He also allegedly was born with heart issues and was told he wouldn't live to see 30. In anyway his passing still hurts.
This song is bittersweet, because the rev wrote it, and also ended up passing away from something similar to a brompton cocktail, alchohol mixed with pills. And given that the song is about suicide, some people consider this song the revs suicide note. Rest in peace jimmy.
Matt wrote this song too so it definitely shouldn’t be considered the revs “suicide note” when some of if not all of the lyrics were written by matt. Fiction fits that description alot more
And The Rev didn't commit suicide. He had an undiagnosed heart condition and drugs and alcohol don't mix well with heart defects.

It's hard to categorize Avenged Sevenfold. They have done a great job throughout their career to always evolve and not be pigeonholed. They certainly have always had a healthy dose of groove all over their records.
-- "Waking the Fallen" is it's own brand of Metalcore (My personal favorite of theirs.)
-- "City of Evil" is modern Thrash mixed with NWOBHM
-- "Self Titled" is all over the place.
-- "Hail to the King" has more of a classic metal appeal and especially leaning into Black Album Metallica style mass appeal.
-- "The Stage" is Proggy as hell.
I hope you boys decide to do some Waking the Fallen reactions. There are a few songs where you can absolutely feel the obvious heavy Pantera influences. A relentless masterpiece of an album, from start to finish!

I honestly haven't really listened to very much FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, or AVENGED SEVENFOLD, and I honestly think that I have mixed them up more than once. But whomever I did hear, and it may have very well been BOTH of them separately, I wasn't impressed. 😊

Best song off their self titled album Imo. Anyway you guys should just listen to their whole city of evil album, absolute classic masterpiece and the album that made them but, the guitar work is so fuckin sick too. I see some other comments recommending their new album but I would absolutely not listen to that as your first full album, it’s cool but very divisive and just flat out isn’t for some people, it’s extremely out there and honestly isn’t even metal for a lot of the album. City of evil or waking the fallen are the best starting points for them and the chances of you liking those albums are way higher than the new one, those albums are full on sick ass metal too. Or check out the album the stage which is like the middle point between their old stuff and the new album, just a sick ass prog metal album and a good mix between old A7X and new proggier experimental A7X
