The Rev was diagnosed with an enlarged heart was he was young and was told then he would not live past the age of 30 ! They said his death would be very painful, they say it feels like your blood is boiling or burning under you skin , alot of what he was feeling as he approached this time can be heard in songs lkke this one and fiction ! In a video Syn referred to the last weeks before his death, stating you could tell he was "broken ",he wasn't sleeping and his body was just broken down ! Nobody knows what kinda pain he was dealing with ! But one thing for sure ,he certainly lived his life like there was no tomorrow and left a permanent imprint on this earth ! What a tremendous talent and by the way he's honored by the rest of A7X a tremendous friend and person ! Godspeed Jimmy !
Taken away too soon I miss Jimmy I think we all do it sucks that he had to make that type of decision I think what he did was accident he was just in so much pain but it's better for him to die like that in his sleep than burn from an enlarged heart I don't mean to sound cold I hope you guys understand what I'm saying
7:00 you arrive free from pain, you feel life and easiness in you, not constant pain, that's what Matt meant probably. I personally would want to die like that in such situation, to leave this place on my own rules. Because when human gets to that health state, he does not bring smile anymore to people who he loves, only suffering. And the longer it all goes the more suffering people get. I think somebody can understand this only, if he goes through this state. Not me, not you, will fully understand, what decision is correct.
I believe this drug is used for those who are dying. It takes away all the pain makes them feel the best they ever have so they can live out the last day or two with those they love, not to actually commit suicide. Make them feel alive and enjoy life one last time with their families. -- My thoughts this was jimmy talking about dealing with all his pain from his heart condition. Almost like a letter to everyone he leaves behind. Kinda like how he did with Fiction before he decided to pass but he held on a bit longer after this song was made. (either way it is sad conclusion). I agree you cannot make someone want to be here on this earth but I would still try to give them hope and be sympathetic/empathetic.
It's referring not just to a chemo paintent but any paintent who is unable to move due to their illness that will ultimately cause their death and these people don't want their loved ones to remember them that way. And they would like to spend 24 hours feeling normal feeling alive again and then after that pass on peacefully. On their terms. Unless any of us have been in this position none of us can judge a person's choice for such a choice as I believe it is almost 1 of the most beauitful things you could do. You know what the result will be. But you will give ypur family and urself that last day of happy memory's, pain free after such long battle of pain with the disease. The ability to move again and live would be the best gift to yourself aswell. To the family that stood by their loved ones side and watched them slowly perish over a long time i wish these treatments were legal to give people that last day with theor loved ones and a everlasting memory of joy.
Brompton Cocktail can also be associated with a heavy sedative used in people with terminal diseases like Stage 4 Cancer. We use morphine now, but before morphine the Brompton Cocktail was used.
The whole quote is "...cause I have the right to die how I wanna, and leave how I arrived, so alive," it's talking about feeling the most alive in the final moments because you're taking control and choosing how you want to leave when you know you're running out of time.
There are a lot of theories about this song, but M. Shadows wrote the lyrics, not The Rev. In the making of video, Jimmy said "Shadows wrote some amazing lyrics that I think a lot of people can relate to". Jimmy had backing vocals in the verses, but they were cut from the song. Brompton Cocktail is about a cancer patient overdosing on a combination of drugs to end his suffering. Chemotherapy was burning him from the inside out and destroying his body slowly on top of his disease. He didn't have any life to continue other than laying in a hospital bed writhing in agony, so waiting to die wouldn't have been humane for he or the ones he cares about. The Rev wrote the guitar riffs, interestingly enough. This really is one of the songs where fans jump the gun on the meaning. The Rev was on prescription opioids and benzos for his heart condition and eye surgery. They were all depressants. He wasn't on any stimulants, and he didn't drink a lot of alcohol by normal standards on the night he died. His health had declined to the point where his tolerance lowered, and his overdose wasn't intentional based on the toxicology reports and what Zacky has said about the last time he saw The Rev. Jimmy was having a fun night out with his friends, went home alone, and passed away. This song didn't foreshadow anything, and the suicide narrative surrounding The Rev's death is disrespectful. The band and Jimmy's family have asked people to stop perpetuating it. He was just a person on his way out, demoing songs for his bandmates to finish as he always did. That's it. On a lighter note, I'm glad you've gotten to this song. It's well-known by fans, though still one of the deeper cuts on an album that's half singles. An absolute gem, and definitely an essential listen. Keep enjoying the A7X discography, because I really appreciate your experience! ❤
It’s sad to think I used to believe this myth growing up, but looking back on it, I can only cringe at the fact I was influenced by said fans. Now that I’m an adult, I can kind of see that this is something James would’ve probably never purposely done, and I can understand why it’s so disrespectful and uncomfortable towards this fact. I feel sorry they have to deal with fans like this. I understand if maybe you didn’t do your research or dig deep enough, but this is why you need to look into things before opening your mouth to conversation to something as sensitive as this. Regardless, may Jimmy Rest In Peace. His loss still hurts me and many others😔❤️
@@PhoenixPeridot It's really hard for the diehards because we put so much effort into showing these guys our appreciation and doing research to keep informed on what their lives have been like to understand their art, then a lot of fans reference completely inaccurate information they read on a web forum or blog, and it feels like everything we've tried to share with others has been overwritten because people continue to use The Rev's death for their false symbolism. They want it to have been a suicide so they can tell charming stories and make Jimmy a heroic figure when he was a person. The truth is, these guys lost their best friend when they thought they were on top of the world, and he always wrote about death. The band was named in reference to the first murder. Most A7X songs involve death. There's no extra context. If most fans care about Jimmy, they should learn something about his life and not take opinions from people who never knew him at face value.
@@chrismeadows4216 honest to god though. It really hurts seeing people put this facade over Jimmy as if he planned everything, and just acted as if he wasn’t aware of people around him loved him dearly. I know for a FACT Jimmy isn’t like that, he quite literally loved everyone around him, and lived life as if it was his last day on earth. He was their friend, and it’s horrible people keep saying that he committed suicide. It’s hard getting over a best friends death, but it only gets harder when people are painting this picture of your friend, something that doesn’t sit right at all
@@PhoenixPeridot in the last interview Matt did, he was asked a ton of questions about Nightmare because it was an album retrospective, and they didn't seem any easier for him to answer. He was really on edge and it looked like he was about to cry after all this time. With all of the rude comments about how A7X haven't been good since Jimmy died and comments about Arin and Brooks not being as fun to listen to as Jimmy and the myth that Jimmy committed suicide on top of them, it has to feel like Matt's been abandoned even though he knows Jimmy wouldn't have left him to deal with everything he's had to deal with. He went through serious depression and has mentioned it in a few other interviews, but everyone who shares those stories makes an even greater mess of his mental state because he expects people will dance around "Did Jimmy seem suicidal?"-type questions. It feels terrible.
@@chrismeadows4216 while I’ll admit, sure arin wasn’t my cup of tea for the band, but he honestly wasn’t the worst either. When brooks was introduced, it felt like the old A7x but more modern. A brompton cocktail is a mixture of morphine, cocaine in alcohol, and chloroform water. 3 days before the rev died he finished writing the song now called "fiction", but it was originally called "death". 3 days after turning it in and finishing the nightmare album, he died of an overdose by mixing oxycodone, diazepam, and alcohol.
Every time the Rev says “So Long” it gives me crazy goosebumps. This is my favorite song of all time, but every A7X song is. Brompton Cocktail is Highly underrated.
The fact you've reacted to 60 of my favorite band's songs and you give good advice/opinions makes this even better. Im so glad i found this channel. Stay rockin FoREVer!!!
A Brompton Cocktail is for cancer patients. Of course, this was written by The Rev. One of those many songs I personally feel were subtle hints of his mental health about his physical health and such. Its almost like euthanasia for humans.
My mom died when I was 10 from cancer. Its selfish to push people to keep fighting at a certain point. This song helped me a lot growing up and understanding everything that happened. The idea that suicide is a sin is a travesty. My entire family left the church over it and never regretted it a moment. They have no idea that they're talking about. My mother was an absolute angel.
Man, that fucking sucks. However I’m glad you had the time with her. I’m lucky to have my grandmother but I just don’t think I can let go. You’re a strong dude and your mom is one in the same man. Much love to you and yours my man, hope it’s brighter days now.
You made the right choice, religious ego is the Venom of Hope. Because even if it was suicide or not in your scenario, only your maker will have the right and understanding on what the reasons were. Long story short: Christ did not hide in a church his entire life. He faced hell on earth because he wanted to know what it was like to suffer and endure. Your job is to save the hopeless not judge them, and spit at religious superiority with every ounce of hate they deserve.
Papa Gates actually told a funny story about it on his series Brian's House. He was there with them on that "trip". M. Shadows quit doing LSD because of some bad ice cubes. Those days were WILD.
I think he needs to take a weekend and do the entirety of the A7X @ LBC concert reaction and give us a concert since we can’t go to any and we can rock out with him
One thing to consider is that it will be blocked and a majority of the viewers here won't see it. The studio versions are fine, but the video copyright for the LBC show raises all sorts of flags because it's from a DVD. D-Gibby should see it, but he has to be careful if he's going to react to it.
I love your wisdom and the way you are open minded about a different perspective. The world needs more people like that. And I would tell them it's ok not to be ok.
Aaay. Thank you for the shoutout 💪🏽. Great reaction. This is a tough one. The Rev was born with an enlarged heart and was told that he wasn’t going to see is 30th bday. That makes the lyrics on this one haunting. Between this and the song Fiction people are speculating that he killed himself. Others say it was an accidental overdose. The band mates knew him better than anyone and said no way it was Suicide because he had such a zest for life. Like you said we hope that people keep pushing and trying to make it one more day.
Brompton cocktail gives you a pain numbing euphoria that forces you to be happy and then unconscious. It forces you to feel like you were Alive. I recently suffered 4 years non stop of an illness that was killing me slowly and I didn't have a promise not a date of when or what. Just hoping for coming surgeries. I had this song on replay because no one was left to show support. The liars within family and friendships left. I asked the doctor to not wake me up if something had happens. Because I was dying in agonizing pain, therfore a patient begs for a Brompton cocktail if they know. I'm cured now, full of gashes on my stomach. Healthy and alive now. But now I will not be around. My last moments would have been meaningless living around complicit friends and family. My opinions even till then still stand. If im leaving, then God knows why I had to. It's either they do it or I do it myself.
So I’m not sure if this is a theory but I’ve heard from other sources that the rev wrote this song (subliminally) for himself it you read the lyrics and how he died it kind of makes sense. Also in afterlife pretty much every song he wrote there was a message behind it regarding him and his illness (Enlarged Heart)
You are easily the best RUclips reactor. I love watching them. Keep doing you brother!! Also I have a song request for ya. Avenged Sevenfold- Crossroads!!! You won’t be disappointed, it’s my all time favorite song by my favorite band!! God bless you D-Gibbs
I think its important to know that depression and suicidal thoughts are not controllable always. Wanting to leave early is a result of chemical inbalance. Its not a selfish need or a directed thought
3:10 to 3:57. It’s not a shortcut, Devin. “Other people have it worse than you. What’s your excuse? You’re whining and crying about it. Stop playing.” My father committed suicide because he was in a perpetual state of never ending agony. And guess what? I’ve never had any feelings of resentment towards him because I knew he couldn’t handle another day of being alive. It’s great that you feel good most of the time, Gibby, but other people don’t have that luxury and you have no intention of even trying to understand that. “Whining and crying.” That makes me sick. And you wonder why almost 15% of deaths are suicide.
My grandma had Alzheimer's and rotted in a private home. She asked to be let go in a moment of clarity and I knew she meant it. This should be an option. We have the ability to make decisions.
Yo Gibby! You the man, but I’ve watched so many videos where I see you playing guitar imaginated and you always make me laugh :p you need to switch your hands to play guitar, with your right hand you go up or down and with your left hand you pull out dem fingers and go crazy, use that along with your rocking face and its kinda perfect :p :) :)
WHENEVER U DO BAT COUNTRY PLEASE PLEASE DO LYRICS NOT THE MUSIC VIDEO BECAUSE THE MUSIC VIDEO CUTS OFF THE LAST PART IF THE SONG WHICH IS MY FAVORITE PART. please
I think you might want to look into chronic pain and depression and how they go hand in hand. From my own experience, after 5 years in pain management I was over medicated and the over 300mg of morphine a day was causing black outs and so many other effects to my body, I felt my only option was to go off all the pain meds. So far since 2012 I have been off all narcotics, I suffer endlessly and even though I find reasons to go on every day, others can not. Chronic pain, from disease, injury, birth defect or any reason is a very difficult thing to have rule your daily life. Like you said, we can't see what others go through. For many of us, those thoughts of the end are peaceful thoughts. I know I'll be glad when the fight I wage everyday is over, I just have no desire to rush it anymore.
My opinion of this song is The Rev knew his enlarged heart eas getting worse and the massive amounts of drugs and alcohol he consumed werent helping. To me, it sounds like hes preparing his loved ones for his eventual death. I also believe it was written as an unalive myself note. I could be completely wrong about it, but thats the vibe I get from Brompton Cocktail.
It would be cool if you reacted to Live in the LBC. It was a show they did in 2008 & it's AWESOME! You'd have to just listen to the audio version of scream but you'd love watching the rest of the concert!🤘🏼
You’re a 100% right though, at the end of the day if someone has made up their mind about taking their life, they’re going to do it regardless of what we say or do. We have a choice of if we try to stop them from getting to that point or if we just let them go, which obviously should be an easy choice but once it gets to that point and they have decided that they don’t want to live, it’s too late to do anything. I think more effort should be put into stopping people from getting to that point rather than trying to stop them once they have.
I want to say I would be strong enough to keep pushing when my life is coming to that end....but I don't know until I get there. So I'm not going to hate or tell you your decisions are wrong. The song is amazing and A7X brings it. Love the content brother!
If someone is living in constant pain, and their condition is critical, there is no hope for a comfortable life in any way, and they want it to end painlessly and peacefully, who are we to say no? If they are of sound enough mind to make the decision that the quality of life they would have is in no way repairable, and will cause pain and suffering to themselves. I say pour them a drink of the finest of their choice, sit next to them and let them enjoy it, then give them that Brompton Cocktail....if I'm ever in thay situation, that's what I would want. Give me a nice double pour of Sctoch, and a Stone Brewery Delicious IPA, and let me say my good byes.
This song is soooooo underrated

You know I believe in the good Lord but I have seen him leave people suffering way to long b4 calling them home just saying❤
This song is deep, hits hard every time still.
You should have a look at pinkly smooth it was the Rev and synester gates old band from before a7x
Rip Jimmy
This song has always hit me hard... i find it very difficult to listen to , but its amazing at the same time.
UNBOUND!!! NEXT PLEASE YOU WILL LOVE IT
So I’m not sure if this is a theory but I’ve heard from other sources that the rev wrote this song (subliminally) for himself it you read the lyrics and how he died it kind of makes sense. Also in afterlife pretty much every song he wrote there was a message behind it regarding him and his illness (Enlarged Heart)
“Paradigm” next!!
I blew out my speakers in my car listening to this song.
Love this track. Always have!
Just discovered your channel. I love your vibe brother.
Dancing dead!! Next pls🔥🔥
Just do all the avenged sevenfold songs plz haha they’re all amazing. Love your videos man!
My grandma had Alzheimer's and rotted in a private home. She asked to be let go in a moment of clarity and I knew she meant it. This should be an option. We have the ability to make decisions.
Love A7x there my favorite band of all time hope they come to md or pa next tour so I can see them live I’ve never seen them
I’m crying out louder and louder but nobody can hear my scream...
The day Gibby reacted to all of a7x songs, it would be written in the history books lol. Much love man
Dancing dead and cross roads and you need to check out the diamonds in the rough album
A7X-Roman Sky! One of my favorites from The Stage.

Criminally underrated song
It's underrated. But is one of my favorites songs. Really good. Fuckin' amazing!
You should do Shepherd of Fire next!
A brompton cocktail is when you take pain killers and mix them with alcohol. It's a very real term you can google it.
THE BEARD!!!
Smiling should be a strong suit!
Yo D-gibby, you should check out the song "Everything All At Once" by Sea In The Sky! Very underrated band but I think you might like it.
Eternal rest 🔥
Probably my favorite album by A7X
My opinion of this song is The Rev knew his enlarged heart eas getting worse and the massive amounts of drugs and alcohol he consumed werent helping. To me, it sounds like hes preparing his loved ones for his eventual death. I also believe it was written as an unalive myself note. I could be completely wrong about it, but thats the vibe I get from Brompton Cocktail.
GIBBY GANG!!!
It would be cool if you reacted to Live in the LBC. It was a show they did in 2008 & it's AWESOME! You'd have to just listen to the audio version of scream but you'd love watching the rest of the concert!🤘🏼
Man the boy gibby know wassup 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥
U SHOULD WATCH A7X LIVE IN LBC CONCERT ITS 🔥🔥🔥
Please do Crossroads or Lost It All from “Diamonds in the Rough” Album. Those two songs are absolute bangers🙏
Took him 6 minutes to put on his glasses lol
I think you gotta react to Sabaton-En Liv Stid I Krig Live.. man that song punches you in your soul. Its that deep.
I want to say I would be strong enough to keep pushing when my life is coming to that end....but I don't know until I get there. So I'm not going to hate or tell you your decisions are wrong. The song is amazing and A7X brings it. Love the content brother!
Dancing dead next please D Gibby!
Bullet for my valentine: curses
YESIR!!!
Love the channel and vibes! #GIBBY'GANG!!!
