Definitely that and not only that, but the people entertaining the history of people being used as puppets on "the stage" are brainwashed and before they realize it it is too late because they have become puppets to their own generations leaders on "the stage".

"It needed to be a statement and a song with scenery. It's like a human being born and seeing that this is all bulls--t. That this is crazy.
You know, as an atheist, of course we create a God who looks just like us. Of course we do this. And of course we do that and not understand each other so we blow each other up and think we're the bigger guys because we have the bigger bombs.
It's such a childish way of looking at things but it's like our highest level of intelligence - and that's what we're doing to each other.

The video focuses on a marionette stage, depicting humans throughout history killing each other. The camera cuts on occasions to a barbaric crowd, cheering on the bloodshed. Vocalist M. Shadows suggested to the that the human race appears incapable of learning from its bloody history.
"The video alludes to somebody watching over us, watching us kill each other over senseless things and not understanding each other. As soon as it gets to a certain point there's a push of a button and the simulation starts over, like we can't figure it out and that's more of a humanistic view, like why can't we just treat each other better?
We're all here and we just do the same things to each other over and over, whether it's dropping bombs on each other or beating each other with sticks. That's what it's really about. It's not meant to be a political endorsement of any candidate or whatever else people want to talk about in RUclips comments."
As a Christian I fs agree with this, many people kill and are killed in the name of religion. The message of evil throughout the world while we sit comfortably and watch. And the ending to be perceived as anything (the skeleton controlling the leaders) whether it be satan, embodiment of evil, or some other dark force
The video is about humans not learning the lesson. Humans will always be destructive. Throughout time as they show, nothing changes. We are the problem with the world. Its supposed to make you see this and want to do better than everyone. Like you said be your own person, see the wrong and do the right thing, even if no one else is.

Syn gates popped off in this song! Fun fact the ending guitar part was a him and his dad. They play a form of gypsy type guitar. It really is fun to listen to them play together. Syn has his own guitar school which is amazing. Great song though and you are dead on as far as to the meaning of the song.

I’m all about having your own thoughts, but I think it’s very ironic that this reaction got turned into spreading your political opinions. This song is literally bashing on how corrupt/violent our governments and rulers are (now and throughout history), and how we are being controlled and manipulated into a tragic world by them. It doesn’t matter what political side you’re on, neither one is in the right, all they truly care about is keeping power out of the hands of the people.
at 12:30 he starts by explaining his interpretation of the video then relates it to a real world scenario, at the very end of his interjection he says that you should do your own homework instead of listening to social media and he doesn't care what you believe.
I don’t feel like a lot of people really appreciate how applicable the lyrics and theme of this song are especially in todays climate. Like A7X has dozens of great songs but some songs transcend being in a top 5 list and this is one of them.

The entire City of Evil album is as close to perfection as you can get in album form. For me it beats everything by miles. That is one of the very few albums I can listen to front to back without skipping a single song. Thats saying a lot.

This video to me has always been a way of showing how violence has always been human nature. And how this violence is pushed by some leaders to keep everyone in check. No doubt that throughout history violence was always the answer to everything. And it’s only going to let us get so far as a human race. One of the deepest scenes was the part where the poppy flowers, which represent WWI veterans, were just trampled by WWII. Since WWI was the “war to end all wars” and those hopes were just destroyed and almost as if the sacrifices of WWI vets were all for nothing.

Avenged sevenfold - Shepherd of Fire or This Means War
This song is a masterpiece.
The button kinda had two meanings imo. It was one symbolizing some higher being, likely death, pressing the reset button as history repeating itself, and also symbolizes our use of nuclear weapons to be the extinction of the human race, hence the appearance of it being a big red button. That's mainly my own opinion on it though. The whole video, to me, tells a story of how throughout history, humans have done pretty horrible things, mainly in the name of greed and/or religion. Whether it be killing one another for small, mundane things, making slaves of others, murdering innocent people and taking their land, burning people at the stake due to certain beliefs of a higher being, having wars due to said beliefs differing from one another, etc. The people watching it unravel are taking it all with a grain of salt because they didn't have to experience any of it. They probably see it as history and nothing more, and that nothing like that could happen again. Then, the final message of them appearing on the stage paints the picture of our generation being next to perform. We are all being controlled like puppets by our leaders just as everyone in history did as well. In the end, we will all cause our own destruction and death will take us all. History will repeat itself, as it is doomed to.
I probably didn't hit the nail on the head with this one, but then again, that's just my interpretation of the song. We are all just sheep, just puppets following our puppet masters, regardless of our thinking otherwise, and we are all being controlled by death. In the end, death will have what was owed.

To answer your question about why people who hate America stay in America
I very much dislike America as a country, what we've done, and what our politics are like. However, running away is just going to leave this country in (at least what I believe to be) peril. A big part of not leaving comes down to wanting to help change the country and lead it down a better path. If your friend struggled with something, you'd try to help them and not just run away. That's why a lot of people who hate America stay in America. they want to help the country get better
We have very different views on a lot of things, but I respect you as a person. At the end of the day, we're both just humans trying to live
and 1 point the most overlook is the people that get abused the most bye the US system are the poor. they don't have the money to start a new live in a different country.

To help you out with the interpretation (at least from my perspective), the video depicts different periods of history with the common motif that is instilled in us humans and that is sadly violence and desire for power starting at prehistoric age, the first contact of two tribes probably lead to violence (hard to provide valid proof for this one), but as for the others we know that the egyptian and roman civilization was build on slavery and one group of people exploiting the other, same goes for Vikings and discovery of American continent by Europe, even though there were also positive things like trade and co-existence, the first "instinct" was to destroy, exploit and conquer aka the powerful and more advanced showed their way by force, continuing to the medieval ages with wars and the french revolution with the guillotine beheading, even though this is considered as a step forward in history, where people took power from the king it is again a path paved in violence and death. Then the WWI and WW2 with very brief period of peace (flowers) as you mentioned where the leaders were sitting in the background and the devouring of land and nations was happening somewhere else on the battlefields and leading us to the contemporary history, where the so called world leaders (the depictions were of Hillary Clinton, Angela Merkel of Germany, Putin of Russia, North Korean leader...) are controlling the people like puppets on strings through media and politics and those are only controlled by their own evil thoughts (depicted as death or the devil), which is an unknown figure pushing the button, which I believe is the ultimate depiction of power as currently we are so advanced that the world as we know it can be destroyed by the push of a button (aka launching nuclear weapons of mass destruction) and by looking at the history, we humans have this destruction in us and if it comes to the point that the button is pushed, the world and humanity would be set back to the prehistoric era because everything would be lost.

The ending was showing that the one thing that controls everyone is death, and when the button was pushed, it’s representing the nuclear button. After nuclear war, there’s a nuclear winter and mankind will go back to caveman days.

This song and video depicts violent atrocities that humans have enacted on other humans throughout history, the crowd are the common people watching it happen, being desensitized to it, allowing it to happen, and sometimes even cheering and approving it. At the end, the world leaders are together as the puppet-masters, but really have their own master (death). The big red button is nuclear war, which in the song's opinion is inevitable, which resets humanity back to the stone-age with the nuclear winter and it seems the cycle of destruction is just able to begin anew. Also, simulation theory is hinted at and a big theme of this album. If you don't know what that is, you should check it out, it's pretty crazy stuff.
