I was told once that you don't pick a guitar the guitar picks you ...here is a prime example why this is so true ... Recently brought a honey burst epiphone Les Paul classic and it did the very same thing .. amazing guitar. Enjoyed your story Dave
Keep coming back for more - "What Was & Cannot Ever Be" - you out did yourself on this part - its a journey of the imagination. At 34:30 the heads begin to roll and the whole section, its beginning, middle and end mirrors a Synphony of sorts. Your talents are most envious. MASSIVE TONE arrives at 36:43 and Jims a happy guy. lets not forget THAT IS ONE MOTHER OF A GUITAR. Can I get a AMEN ! ! !
thats why i dont visit music stores anymore.. i went in for some strings and a strap and i walked out with a Gibson Les Paul 58 reissue and a very light wallet... the feel of the neck, the weight, the balance, the resonance.. just perfect in every way for me.
It blows my mind that when you find a gem of a Les Paul, it feels like you're connecting directly with Les Paul. Such an icon in the world of electric guitar.
I just rewatched Dave's Peter Green EP10 upload. I think a few of those should get replayed on this guitar. I'm really curious if I will hear what I'm hearing in this video. It's "Dave" but thru a a Les Paul. The Ep10 video is mostly a Les Paul, Dave is there. That whole player + instrument intangible intuition thing is what I'm thinking will come out more obviously.
I love that maple top. My kind of Paul. Dave, I enjoyed the story very much. I'm an old man and have had a few Pauls thru the long years. Never loved any of them; Until the author Mark Wolynn (A wonderful player) bought a 2008 black Gibson Les Paul BFG w/P90s and presented it to me. It has that magic feel. It's my love, so to speak. Thank you for sharing this presentation.
I’ve have a Les Paul Standard for 10 years and I still feel the exact same way you do about it. When you find the guitar you can’t stop thinking about, you know you found the right one.
I always get so happy when I hear "Helllooo, and good morning, good afternoon...". Fantastic content as always, Dave! I hope that you know that you're such an inspiration to us. Even though I've played the guitar for 20 years, I still go back to your how to lessons periodically. 10/10
This is awesome and it mirrors the experience I had with my Les Paul when I first experienced it. I went into the store just to look around, saw the LP hanging there and felt pulled towards it. I took it down, plugged it in and fell in love with it! My wife knew that this guitar had attached itself to me but I kept saying I couldn't afford it. While I was playing it my wife went to the sales staff, made a deal and purchased it on a payment plan without me knowing. After I came out of my trance and stopped playing it she asked me, "would you love to own that guitar?" I said "oh yes I certanily would," she then said "well it is yours now, I just bought it for you!" I didn't think she would want us to spend such a huge chunk of cash on a guitar at that time but she said she just knew I would be devastated to walk out of that store without that particular guitar. The only thing I have done to it was to change the pick-up rings and put a plain truss rod cover on it, just like Dave did! I had a few LP's before this one, even had a Custom at one point but none of them compares to this LP that I now have, it is my musical soulmate for sure! Congrats on this awesome guitar Dave, there's just nothing like a very special Les Paul when it speaks to you! :-)
Had the same experience in 2008. I almost gave up my search for a Les Paul. Must have tried 50 different ones. Standards, studios and even a couple of customs. One day I went to buy strings and in the corner of my eye I saw a Tobacco Sunburst Les Paul. I bought my strings and decided to take a closer look. After five minutes of playing and another five minutes of convincing my dad to lend me the money until my next paycheck I went home with it. Still have it and if I have a bad day it allways makes me feel better. Will never be sold.
That 12 inch radius and shorter scale after playing a strat for a while makes it feel like you can reach and play anything when switching to a les Paul. Haha I love them
This is a good example of how we feel about the guitars we love, and once it’s paired with the right amp. Nothing can replace it..so don’t sell your love thinking you’ll find another some other time down the road..that day will never come….and the bad folks that steal them can’t even imagine the loss we go through, or so much as even care…likely because they are in such a bad place, they have never experienced that feeling….best wishes for your find…
Best thing about you dave, as well as your playing, is we know you're not just featuring expensive guitars. Especially your own. So its great to see your own new Gibson. You deserve it my friend and I can see it speaking to you even through RUclips. Brilliant mate!
I have been patiently waiting for this video for a few months now. Thanks for this video, it looks like you're having fun with this guitar, and that's the point. Beautiful burst.
So, I am writing this before i've even seen the video. From everything in your life, your band, music, the work you do with Andertons.... It's about bloody time you got a nice Gibson LP. AM happy for you.
The same thing happened to me with my Gibson Les Paul. I traded in 6 other guitars to get it. I had absolutely no regrets about it. Just like you said it will not be leaving me.
Dave, Welcome to the club! Gorgeous Les Paul! Absolutely suits you in every way… I know exactly how you feel… my ‘03 R9 Historic is the Les Paul of my dreams and I feel about it like you feel about this new one! Rock it, coax it, let it take you into the future and again, Congrats!
Can really tell what you said about the connection you had with the guitar by your heavenly powerful playing. Its crazy that you knew it from playing a single note!! Forever grateful for all that you kindly share with us, you are a lovely person Dave❤
Sir you are always Master class! You are Dave but you are up there with the greats. Great tones and taste. Thank you for sharing. Cheers from Hawaii. 🙏
You expressed the same emotions and thoughts I go through when a very special guitar suddenly makes an appearance in my life. Congratulations on getting a beautiful guitar!
Howdy Dave, it’s so wonderful to find something that calls to you like that. Be it guitar, whatever.. it just makes you feel so good.. and with guitars you get to create music. That marvelous ethereal floating stuff we hear and feel that does things to us. Over and over. So happy for you. Keep playing. Thanks for sharing it. Oh yes!
I still have my first guitar I ever bought, an 2006 Gibson les Paul studio and i love it to bits but listening to you play and see your enthusiasm makes me want to buy something that makes my bank account shiver with fear
Dave it’s gorgeous. I agree totally about the underwhelming flame tops that I find more appealing than the super flamed tops. The light flame on mine is what made me zero in on it and once I held it, it was mine.
I'm so pleased for you. There's nothing like buying a guitar that 'had your name on it'. Your video really cheered me up this evening after a difficult day.
Congratulations Dave on your first Gibson Les Paul. Reminds me of my first. a 2004 Ebony LP Standard. Love at first touch. Good luck on your journey to discover and explore this beauty. 😉
Hiya, i,m on my 5th Gibson Lp, Ive finally got one that connects, i,m still learning new tones on it after 6yrs, I put the vintage wiring in it, makes a massive difference, There is so much emotion in them if you get the right one.Similar burst to mine Its certainly working for you Dave, you can here its taking you places new. Similar burst to mine though mines reliced and faded. Good luck Ian
Congrats Dave!! I just bought a used gibson LP Traditional Pro V in transparent black. This model has some seriously good features that nobody seems to talk about.
The Gibson Les Paul is one of those must have guitars. You really need one to complete a great guitar collection. I found mine 20 years ago and it ended my search. Sounds like you found yours. Congrats Dave.
Happy days Dave! I also believe that guitars choose you. In fact I also have a 60s Gibson LP standard non burst and like yours that maple just draws you in, I went to a shop with open mind, tried an SG and a stack of Fenders and a 50s LP but then I saw it hanging there in pure gorgeousness I held it played 3 chords and had to own it. Everything just felt right and sounded right. The tone from these guitars is awesome, the pots work for one thing! Great vid Dave am smiling with you on this one mate. Mine is also going nowhere!
My 2012 LP Standard was the same way, I played a lot of les pauls and not connected with me the way this one did and I had to buy it. and I am glad I did. Nice Guitar Dave, I can't wait to hear more of your playing on it.
I've got a Rockburn les paul it's built really well and sounds awesome I bought it for £35 on cash converters it's blue and the pick ups sound really good. Your les paul is the real thing it sounds really fantastic. Good luck Dave keep on rocking .
I can totally relate to how you feel about your Les Paul. Back in 2020 as a 65th birthday present to myself I purchased a 50's Les Paul Standard from Wildwood guitars in a Dark Cherry Burst finish. Mine is absolutely perfect for me as yours is for you. Congrats on finding "The One" !
The lp got me interested in the electric guitar. But I couldn't stretch to one so bought a kit, modded the parts and learned a lot putting it all together! But that's a beautiful one you have there Dave, sounds, as ever, fabulous in your skilled hands. ❤🙏
i´m really happy you found your gibson gem! I can hear how the les paul influences you in a nicely different way. I had a similiar experience only with a ´22 SG standard 61. I directly knew this will be a keeper and it stays with me until my time is over 🤟
Evening Mr Simpson ... Mark here from the bastard child (USA) ... wonderful to see you connect with the old man .. when he comes it's all over as I've experienced twice in my life ... carry on with pleasure and GLEE !
Very happy for you! The first time I held a Les Paul was around 1977 at a guitar shop in Dallas. It was a cherry sunburst and brand new. I think it was $500 US, which seemed like a fortune at the time. I turn 60 next year and I've never been in a situation to own an actual Les Paul. I watched your video and have to live vicariously through you. So happy you found that gem! Maybe one day soon I will be in a position to finally own one as well. Greetings from Texas.
Dude! This is better than Bonamassa. Very happy for you. I was a few days away from home but coming back home today, where my new Les Paul 60s unburst is waiting for me to be unboxed.
Mine is a 2002 Lightburst with 50's neck. It is superb. People slag off Gibsons but if you find one like that, then you love them. I tried about 15 that day in 2004 but this one spoke to me. So I know exactly what you mean.
Makes me so happy for you. Just the other day I was watching one of your sounds like videos where you said you'd never own one (I think it was the Tool video). Never say never! I finally got my own last year. Unburst. Nothing quite like it. I did change the pickups for Duncan's Green Magic (Peter Green) pickups.
I was told once that you don't pick a guitar the guitar picks you ...here is a prime example why this is so true ... Recently brought a honey burst epiphone Les Paul classic and it did the very same thing .. amazing guitar. Enjoyed your story Dave
Dave's Les Paul...50 years from now, we'll still be talking about this...what an incredible sound.
Your playing in this video almost made me cry. Seems like you found a mate for life in this guitar and I'm so happy for you.
Keep coming back for more - "What Was & Cannot Ever Be" - you out did yourself on this part - its a journey of the imagination. I love when guitars find the right players and move in.
I'm genuinely pleased for you Dave. One day i'll have one too.😊

the feel of the neck, the weight, the balance, the resonance.. just perfect in every way for me.
You only live once..Enjoy it..congrats
You only live once and you can always make money. My standard plays me it's beautiful and I love it.

Don't. You. Dare. Relic. It.
Lol
Broken headstock is the ultimate gibson les paul relic, go for it
With how much Dave will be playing this guitar, the aging will happen quickly and naturally 😊
So funny. Thought the same thing !😂
Haha LMAO 😂😂😂
That 12 inch radius and shorter scale after playing a strat for a while makes it feel like you can reach and play anything when switching to a les Paul. Haha I love them

Good to see such beautiful guitar find a good home.
Dave, you did the right thing! I have a Les Paul Traditional Iced Tea and it's my absolute favourite finish. Runner up is Bourbon Burst.
That’s a beauty Dave congratulations. I have the exact same one born a year earlier.
Yeah man that's the hit right there! That guitar is right where it should be.
Oh yes Dave makes me smile 😁 love it
Mine is a 2002 Lightburst with 50's neck. It is superb. People slag off Gibsons but if you find one like that, then you love them. I tried about 15 that day in 2004 but this one spoke to me. So I know exactly what you mean.
