I find grace Acker is always crushed up I little.e pieces. I don't buy it any more. I usually buy dunns because it's firm and plump. I have to check the dunns brand to see if it has sugar. Thanks. I never knew they came from China too

I was in Jamaica in September. I ate ackee till i weak. I always pick, clean and freeze to take back to foreign. I NEVER eat tinned foods, NONE. Why? They ALL filled with preservatives, sugar and citric acid which is extremely harmful. I dont eat meat or any dairy products any more either. I've noticed our traditional foods are being cooked with a lot of sugar added. My mother never put sugar in rice, fried dumpling or any food unless it was cake or dessert. I've noticed, as a result of this, people in Jamaica are too big and unhealthy, from young go up.....diabetes, high blood pressure and other conditions are on the rise. My people KFC, BURGER KING is not good food, fast food kill you fast. Get back to where we are coming from, our ancestors lived to ripe old ages and were fit strong and healthy. Done talk

You must always completely drain the can in the kitchen sink , and then you empty the ackee into a small pot of salted boiling water for a bout 10-15 minutes before frying it up in its fresh seasoning , and oil 🙏🏾🇬🇧

  • @dunoripavalan1980

Also Queens check the net weight vs the drained weight on the can. Some of them will be more water but try charge same price or more.

The shelf life for Grace is longer than the Linstead product because of the additives. Just soak the Ackee (as you should do anyway) in water to remove the added sugars, citric acid (basically dried lemon/lime juice), and salt. I would be more concerned with where they are canned. If canned in India or China the Ackee is sourced from that region!

Please stop supporting Tropical Sun, not only are their products inferior in quality (hence the cheaper price) they sell this brand in the UK and are British Asian company. Many people have seen and heard how disrespectful they are towards black people asking questions about their products, their disdain for us is evident. They will take our money but show us contempt when doing so. Please stick with the other brands.

I DON’T trust dem Edomites packing our food type, that there is nothing in there that will harm me! Furthermore, why is graces being packed in Hertfordshire and then, how are they importing it to the UK?

I always check my labels, the adding of sugar to products is worse in the US. If you look at the same ackee imported to Europe they don’t add as much sugar. Although I love ackee I very rarely eat it. The saltfish we get over here in the U.K. is salt fish distant cousin. Much of the foods we are sold even those proclaiming to be organic or clean have ingredients in them that only benefit the food and the pharmaceutical industries
In the US they make you sick because they want you to spend your money on health care, in Europe they make you fat because they want you to spend your money on dieting. In many other countries they just don’t care at all they import whatever will sell. I think Jamaica should make fresh cheese, all you get is the plastic highly processed stuff in a tin. Many were brought up to love it but I never did. Jamaica has beautiful cattle why not make fresh cheese? Jamaica has so much beautiful land but import much from the US and what is being imported is junk, highly processed food.
Diabetes is not only through eating sugar it’s the entire lifestyle and many eat lots of starchy foods like yam and banana and dumplin these are good but only when eaten in moderation and as part of a healthy balanced diet. We shouldn’t be eating this type of food every day or even every other day, we shouldn’t be drinking so much caffeine and soda should be active, getting enough sleep, water, exercise so yes check labels but also check how we are living what we are eating and drinking

Omg. So crazy. All the companies are really doing the wrong thing. Fresh is best. But when you can't get it you have to find a way to eat healthy. Mu God. Thanks sis. We needed that information. Also FYI. The salt fish. Look at the sodium content to preserve. It's such a killer. We love salt fish, but the package one is filled with salt just to preserve. No matter how you fresh it out. Over 2,000 MG of salt.
